The well-known plant chokeberry belongs to the Rosaceae family and is a medicinal plant. This is a small shrub that blooms in May and June, and the fruits ripen in late August - early September. The color of the berries is dark brown or black, sometimes with a waxy coating. All species of this plant are edible. Jams, preserves, wine, juice, jelly, tinctures and teas are made from them.

It was brought to our country from Canada in the 19th century and planted as an ornamental plant. And only the Soviet breeder Michurin, after many experiments and studies, delivered a verdict on the medicinal properties of this shrub.

The composition of chokeberry includes such vitamins - beta-carotene, vitamin B (1, 2 and 6), vitamin PP, P, A, E and ascorbic acid. In addition, it is rich in pectins, tannins and organic acids. Micro and macro elements such as iodine, manganese, potassium, copper, cobalt, iron and molybdenum are found in fruits in large quantities.

What diseases can be treated with chokeberry

Chokeberry - the benefits and harms of this plant depend on the state of human health. For the prevention of vascular diseases, it is necessary to eat berries 100 g per day. Juice from freshly squeezed berries can reduce and stabilize blood pressure. The berry is also effective for hypertension, varicose veins and atherosclerosis, and for better absorption of vitamin P, it should be consumed simultaneously with vitamin C. It can thin the blood and reduce blood clotting, which reduces the likelihood of a stroke or heart attack. But in this case, you need to consult a doctor - side effects may occur.

The chokeberry contains a lot of iodine, so its use is indicated in the treatment of thyroid diseases and radiation sickness. In diseases of the stomach, it is useful to take fresh berries on an empty stomach - the receptors of the stomach are excited, more gastric juice is secreted and the food will be digested without problems. Also, this plant belongs to the category of choleretic - the leaves have the ability to cause the production of bile and improve liver function.
