What material are women's tights made of? What can be made from old tights: craft ideas. DIY rug made from old tights

The nylon used in the manufacture of tights initially has a light transparent and durable appearance. The elasticity of nylon is much higher than the elasticity of silk thread. The strength of nylon thread depends on strict adherence to the necessary parameters and characteristics during its manufacture. Nylon threads with a diameter of 0.10 mm can withstand 0.60 kg of weight.

Manufacturing process

Today, the highest quality polyamide materials are used to produce high-quality nylon tights. They are characterized by increased strength. The technology used in the production of nylon tights is a rather complex process that requires a large number of different equipment.

Production stages

How are nylon tights made? Production processes include certain processing stages, such as: for knitting 2 tube-shaped blanks, special devices are used. It takes approximately 1–2 minutes to knit 2 pieces. Then, in the next production stage, various sewing operations are performed. Use sewing machines that have a flat seam function. After this, the product is painted on a special dyeing device.

Main equipment used

Use devices with needle selection for each system (using a monomagnet). They have the ability to create different loop variations using loop-forming wedges controlled by a stepper motor.

The device has electronic control of the functions performed and diagnostics of all processes that are in operation. The required dimensions, images and their location are made using a programming device on which specialized software is installed.

The arrow (c) indicates the way for the departed tights

This is a familiar situation, right, girls? It’s a pity that torn tights are an extra waste, but still not a problem. New tights are easy to buy. It was worse for our grandmothers and mothers... What about ordinary women! Even to the future British Queen Elizabeth, at her wedding in 1947 after the war, women gave stockings as a gift, as the most expensive thing that could be given away. In the USSR in the post-war period, stockings were also a luxury; they were almost never produced. A story described by Lyudmila Gurchenko in her book comes to mind. After the release of “Carnival Night” in 1956, she instantly became incredibly popular and began to be invited to perform at concerts. And she didn’t have stockings! And there was nowhere to buy it! They had to be borrowed from an assistant and returned backstage after the performance.

The same stockings that we started making later were scary and not practical. Your mothers will probably remember the nasty brown and beige tights with pleats on the leg. “Snatching” Baltic or GDR tights was a great success! It’s different now - you want it in a mesh, you want it in a flower, you want it matte, you want it with a drawstring... It’s all there! One problem - they haven't come up with ones that don't tear...

Would you like me to tell you how tights are made? Would you like to tell me how to choose one so that you can wear it longer? Then let's go!

Site

The other day I was lucky enough to visit a factory near Moscow that produces nylon tights. I saw with my own eyes the entire stage of turning the thread into a finished product. I'm telling you!

Tights are knitted from 2 types of threads: elastane and polyamide. Polyamide is the basis of tights, it is their strength, and elastane is flexibility and elasticity.
This is what babinas with threads look like. By the way, they are always white, because nylon thread, roughly speaking, is a plastic derivative.

And this is what a nylon thread looks like up close. Although, this picture is probably familiar to you from the hooks on the tights :)

There are also dyed threads. They are threaded into a knitting machine to mark the size of the tights. We most likely won’t even notice them in the finished product.

There are knitting machines in a neat row at the factory, 250 in total.

All the spare parts of the machine are taken outside, and inside there is a frame on which the stocking is knitted. Using four hundred needles, one pipe is knitted within 3 minutes, i.e. one leg of future tights.

All machines at the factory are high-tech, which allows us to minimize manual labor. Manual intervention requiredonly when changing bobbins with threads and knitting programs.

This is what the newly knitted semi-finished product looks like. This is a sample of future “fantasy” tights, with a pattern.

Samples are selected from each batch and immediately tested for strength, elasticity, and size. To do this, they are stretched on such a device

Batch of finished semi-finished products

Then the halves are sewn together and the product takes on the shape we are familiar with. To do this, the operator stretches the blanks onto a special frame, and then the machine does its job: sews the halves together, cuts the crotch and sews in the gusset.

Each finished product undergoes a quality assessment again. To do this, the master puts the tights on the uniform and carefully examines them for flaws: uneven seams, snags, unstitched areas.

Products that have passed the selection stage are prepared for painting. The factory does not have its own dyeing shop, so they resort to the help of a dyeing plant that has special equipment. equipment and treatment facilities. A day later, a batch of dyed tights returns back to the factory.

For comparison - tights BEFORE and AFTER painting

Please note that the tights in their original form seem to be squashed and wrinkled. In order to smooth them out and shape the legs, they are put on molds and treated with steam.

Again for comparison, photos BEFORE and AFTER steam treatment

And finally, the last stage is packaging.
At the last stage, quality control is performed again - inspection through the light for puffs.

Marking

And so beautiful and bright we see tights on the shelves

By the way, certain effects (the effect of tightening, nakedness of the legs, pressure distribution) are obtained by combining various threads - elastane and polyamide. It also matters knitting mode. This is complex chemistry, so there is constant monitoring in production.

The factory's specialists also told us a little secret - how to choose tights so as not to throw them away after the first wear.

Of course, it’s cool if you have the opportunity to look at the tights in the light before purchasing. For example, if you buy tights at the market. Are there puffs, do you like the weaving of the thread. The more clearly the tree-like pattern of the canvas is visible, the better. But, as a rule, there is no opportunity to unpack before purchasing. Therefore, look at the composition.

Tights up to 70 den must contain at least 10% elastane. 10, 12, 20% is a normal value. This means that the tights will fit the leg well and are resistant to deformation. If tights contain less than 10% elastane, this means that it is present only in the elastic. Those. The tights will gather like an accordion in certain areas and will constantly slide down.
Tights over 70 den must contain at least 7% elastane.. Because they are denser, and as you remember, polyamide is responsible for the density and strength; there will be less elastane than in tights up to 70 den.

The quality of tights is also influenced by the quality of raw materials. But they don’t write about it on the packaging. That's whyOften, unfortunately, tights can only be checked when they are worn. The composition is not always a guide.Identify 1-2 brands that you trust. For example, it happens that certain tights make your legs itch. Or a certain color doesn’t suit you (caramello doesn’t suit me. After 2-3 washes, the original color fades a little and the legs look bluish)

The production process of tights is illustrated using the example of the Orodoro brand. It is quite possible that in other industries the equipment and technologies are not the same. But do you know what I noted?

First. The equipment is the latest, brought from Italy together with Italian engineers. The production workshop is ideally clean and tidy. The machines stand in neat rows, the bags of semi-finished products lie in neat rows, and the non-production premises are also very neat.

Second. Highly professional management. I'm talking about those who are responsible for promoting the brand and those who manage production. People are passionate about their work and are happy to share secrets. This is always very captivating. Only one secret was not revealed - the cost per unit of production :)

Third. I would hardly have known about this brand, much less bought unfamiliar tights, if I had not seen with my own eyes how they are made. We were shown the production process, the subtleties of selection, and the subtleties of promotion. Moreover, they showed several samples of tights. For example, tulle tights. I've never seen these before! Tights with microscopic mesh. Thanks to this weaving, the risk of snags is significantly reduced. By the way, they look amazing on your feet - almost invisible. It’s like you’re without tights at all, you just have such an even tone on your legs :) Also cool “powder” tights. They are matte, without a disgusting glossy shine. They also give the effect of naked legs.

So for me Orodoro was a pleasant find. I will definitely buy 2-3 more pairs with different effects to try.

All women repeatedly face such a problem as arrows and holes in nylon tights. This unpleasant moment happens so often that sometimes you just don’t know how to deal with it. Moreover, this simply necessary wardrobe item forces us more and more often to buy a new, better product, and this is good for our pockets. This is probably why many fashionistas find it quite difficult to say goodbye to another pair of once-loved, accidentally torn tights. Is it possible to extend their life by transforming them into a new creation? Of course! These tights can make original and chic DIY stockings, leggings, knee socks, gloves, a gag and many other interesting little things. Now we will tell you, you don’t know how to make stockings from tights with your own hands.

Materials and tools

To transform your favorite tights into new stockings or leggings, we will need some materials. Some will be taken from the base, and the rest will be auxiliary tools. So, before starting work, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • One pair of tights.
  • A spool of thread to match the product.
  • Thin needle.
  • Scissors.
  • Wide elastic band that will hold the stockings on the leg.
  • Satin ribbon or lace for decoration.

Let's get started

Now we will learn how to sew stockings from tights, and we will begin the process of alteration itself. It consists of several important steps:

  • First, we need to turn the tights inside out. This will give the finished product a neat finish.
  • Now we need to make a mark on the top of the tights that you chose yourself. We recommend cutting the tights at the very top, at the crotch level. So the stockings will definitely not be short.
  • Next, we cut off the top of the tights so that we end up with two identical stockings. For this we need sharp scissors. We do the same manipulation with the second part of the tights.

Important! We cut it carefully, understanding that nylon is a rather delicate material.

  • The edge of the already cut stocking needs to be scorched with fire, in other words, soldered. This way the product will not unravel. For these purposes, you can use matches, a lighter or a candle fire.
  • To prevent an arrow from forming along the cut line during wearing, it is necessary to sew a not too tight elastic band to the very edge of the stocking. This will allow the finished stockings to stay firmly on the leg. By the way, you don’t have to buy elastic, but use elastic from the same tights. It just needs to be carefully cut, divided into two parts and sewn to the top of the stockings. Everything is extremely simple!

Important! The threads to make classic stockings from tights must be the same color as the tights. If you like experiments - please! You can take elastic and threads of a completely different color, or combine stitches in different colors.

  • The edge of the stockings can be finished with different stitches, for example, zigzag or machine stitching. The main thing is that in the end the product on the front side is clean and without puffs.

Important! When sewing on nylon, you do not need to tighten the stitches too much and you should not make large spaces between them. In this case, the seam will be rough and not entirely neat. More attentiveness, diligence, and you will succeed.

  • If desired, we decorate the finished stockings with ribbons, rhinestones and lace. These elements will give the product some piquancy and tenderness.

That's the whole process of converting tights into stockings. Agree, it’s easy to make stockings with your own hands from tights.

Additional accessories

You can also make suspenders to go with your stockings - it's not that difficult. To do this you will need lace, a decorative elastic band and a swimsuit clasp or clip:

  1. We cut out triangles from the lace and sew them on the sides.
  2. Next, we sew suspenders to the top, and a clip to them.

Voila! The charming belt is ready! It will complement your newly made stockings perfectly.

So, dear women, do not rush to throw away your torn, old, but beloved tights. Making stockings with your own hands is quite possible. You can also use them to make a lot of useful, interesting, and, most importantly, necessary things with your own hands. They can be used to decorate the interior, in the garden, in the kitchen, in the nursery and even in the home medicine cabinet.

A nylon stocking cut lengthwise is the best source of elastic ropes that can be used to tie and tie up anything

Tights are an excellent material for gartering grapes, tomatoes and other plants. Soft tights will not cause as much damage to the plant as regular rope

Stuff the stocking trim tightly into the drilled hole, stick a pre-heated nail into it, and pull it out. A molten channel is obtained, into which a nail, screw, screw or bolt is then hammered or screwed in. In the same way, you can strengthen loose screws in old furniture. Especially in furniture made from chipboard. Here it is useful to warm up the entire mass of nylon with a soldering iron, and then melt a channel for the screw.

Large pieces of nylon are also used instead of a sieve for sifting bulk materials and straining liquid materials and products.

A stocking placed on a broom will prevent it from becoming too frayed and breaking. Thanks to this “case” the broom will be like new for a long time! And it will be much more convenient to sweep away cobwebs with such a broom.

You can stuff soft toys with clean old tights instead of foam rubber.

Thanks to their abrasive properties, rags made from tights are very good at cleaning mirrors and window glass.

They also polish and clean shoes wonderfully.

Dishes can also be washed and cleaned with tights. To do this, you need to cut the tights into strips and knit a washcloth from these strips

Cleaning and polishing furniture with tights

Using tights, you can collect small objects, such as beads, from the floor. To do this, you need to pull the tights over the suction hole and vacuum the place where the loss is supposed to be located. At the same time, all the dust will be absorbed, and small things will linger on the fabric. All ladies are familiar with the situation when an earring that has fallen on the floor rolls behind a chair or under the bed. Vacuum the area where the earring is supposed to be. All the dust will be drawn into the vacuum cleaner, and the earring will simply be attracted, but will not get inside.

For owners of vacuum cleaners with reusable filters. We cut off the upper (thigh) part of the stocking, tie the wide end with a knot or grab it with a strong elastic band, put the resulting chalk on the pipe inside the dust collector, and secure it there with a rubber ring. That's it!..When the bag is full, throw it away with the trash.

Massage brush hygiene. Pull tights or stockings over a massage brush or comb so that the teeth stick out (not covered by tights). Then you can comb your hair with this comb and remove the tights from the comb. The comb itself will remain clean. There will be no hair, no dandruff, no sebum residue, etc. Hair and all the dirt will remain in the stocking.

For flavoring. You can put dried orange peels in tights (absolutely clean, of course) and hang them in any inconspicuous place in the bathroom. Every time the bathroom is filled with steam, the orange peels will smell and aromatize the bathroom. You can also fill your tights with lavender.

Moth pads. Caring housewives make pillows out of old tights, which they fill with lavender and place in closets. This method has a double benefit: it drives away moths and has a pleasant aroma.

Aromatherapy. Using the bottom of the pantyhose, add a few handfuls of bath salts and place them in the bath; this will dissolve the salt evenly and will not scatter.

Pantyhose can reveal all hangnails. If you are using sandpaper to sand a wooden surface, you can check the quality of the sanding by putting tights on your hand and running it over the surface: if there is a defect, there will be a puff in the fabric.

You can easily remove nail polish with tights and acetone.

Used paint brushes can be stored in tights to reduce the risk of contamination and fraying. Used for perfect painting. To ensure that the paint has the ideal consistency, without lumps and debris, cover the paint jar with a piece of nylon (obtained from a cut stocking) and press it down slightly. This way, you will end up with a “can” within a can, into which the paint will bleed through, but all the lumps and debris will not get through. By the way, by tightly pulling the nylon onto the jar and securing it, you can shake out any bulk product from it, while simultaneously sifting it. You can strain liquids in the same way.

Rattled refrigerator? Wrap tights around the refrigerator engine in one turn, separate the ends and secure tightly to the body.

Tights as a reinforcing material. Craftsmen use tights when gluing wooden skis - for reinforcement. They say tights are best suited for these purposes.

Drops of molten nylon easily glue porous and fleecy materials together. Cut the stocking from the top to the mark (the mark is cut off) in a spiral with a long strip with a width of 1-2 cm. The strip itself will curl into a lace, then it is wound into a ball.

Nylon melts easily, but also sets quickly, so you need to work quickly. You can use nylon to build up a worn-out heel or patch up an outsole—even if it’s made of rubber. Heat the desired area with a soldering iron until soft and rub pieces of nylon cord into it with a soldering iron. So, building up layer by layer, they bring the thing to condition. Particular care must be taken to ensure that the nylon melt does not get on your hands!

You can make nylon handles for working tools. Melt the nylon trimmings in a clean tin over low heat. While they are standing on the fire, they prepare a simple mold for casting - a cardboard and thin aluminum tube. The round handle is not very convenient to use, so the tube should be slightly flattened on both sides. One end of the finished mold is plugged with any stopper, and the finished melt is poured into the other. Immediately insert the handle of the tool and wait for it to set. To make the product beautiful, you can sprinkle a pinch of paint - bronze or silver - into the melting nylon.

Has there been a leak in the bathroom? Release the junction of the siphon with the fan pipe. Mix a handful of cement in water until thick and creamy. They thoroughly bathe a nylon stocking in this liquid and wrap it around the affected joint. Apply a bandage without folds, tightly and not tightly. Use the remaining solution to smooth out any unevenness. When the “muff” dries slightly, pass over it with a wet brush or rag. The connection will be strong.

An alternative to an alternator belt, pump or power steering. While foreign drivers are bourgeois, if a belt breaks, they will stand for hours, scratching themselves, waiting for the evacuation service to arrive, a Russian man in such a situation will simply ask his wife to borrow her tights for a while, which will successfully replace the ill-fated belt and help him reach the nearest car service center .

You can also rob a bank)))

And also))) tights can be worn with a dress! And if they are a little torn, then go under jeans))))

Like this! And that’s not all)))) Now think about whether it’s worth throwing away your old tights)

When most people hear the word “nylon,” they associate it with tights made from this material. Often people don’t even suspect that many useful things are made from nylon, and not just tights. Nylon is a completely artificial material, synthesized in a special way in laboratory conditions.

It was invented as a material with unique strength characteristics for certain purposes: knitting huge fishing nets, use in the production of various equipment, mechanisms, and machines. And tights are just a by-product, although an important one. In the article we will consider the features of nylon as a textile material, find out its composition and scope of application. We will also find out the average price for nylon fabric.

Description

Let's find out the characteristic features and properties of nylon. Nylon is very light, almost weightless, but at the same time ultra-strong fabric of synthetic origin. The fiber from which nylon is made is called polyamide. For the production of nylon threads, components obtained by processing natural resources - oil and coal - are used. Benzene, toluene, and phenol are used.

In the photo - nylon fabric:

Nylon fabric

The discovery of nylon thread was made in 1938 in Germany. The fabric was put into mass production in the late 40s. It should be noted that this fabric is called nylon only in our country. In other countries it is known as nylon, dederon or perlon.

Varieties

Let's look at what types of nylon there are.

Fabrics vary in the way the threads are woven. Differing in this parameter, nylon can be:

In addition, nylon can vary in degree of transparency. The more transparent the thread, the stronger it is, and vice versa. The spectrum of transparency ranges from complete colorlessness to a dull yellow tint.

Colors

As for this parameter, here the fabric can be divided into plain and patterned options. Read more.

Plain. As is clear, in this case the nylon fabric has one shade. It must be said that the palette of possible colors of nylon fabric is very wide. You can choose from pastel soft shades to ultra-bright, catchy, neon.

Plain nylon

Patterned. Another name for this material is flocked. In this case, the production of nylon is more complex. As a result of special processing, a beautiful fabric with a velvety surface is obtained. It is clear that the cost of flocked nylon will be much higher than usual.

Patterned nylon

Properties

Nylon thread has very high strength characteristics. Before its invention, natural silk was considered the strongest thread. So, nylon exceeds the strength of silk several times.

The breaking length of the nylon is 60 km. For comparison, cotton thread can boast of only 40 km. Nylon has a smooth surface with a pleasant shine. The fabric looks very decorative.

Kapron repels dirt. Therefore, items made from this fabric do not require frequent washing.

Nylon is a very elastic and elastic fabric that can withstand significant stretching. What is typical is that after stretching the product always takes its previous shape without any deformation or consequences.

Nylon does not need to be ironed; this fabric does not wrinkle at all. Moreover, ironing it is strictly prohibited, as the threads will melt.

This is a very light material. All women wear nylon tights and know how weightless these products are.

When worn carefully, nylon is durable, very resistant to abrasion and wear. This fabric can be twisted, bent, pulled in any way - it is not afraid of such mechanical influences. Of course, the fabric will not withstand scratching with a sharp object. Many ladies know that even a fingernail can easily tear thin tights.

Nylon is not susceptible to bacteria and microorganisms and is not susceptible to rot. This is both a plus and a minus of the material. The downside is that this property of the fabric makes it very difficult to dispose of. Nylon cannot be called an environmentally friendly material.

The material is simple and easy to care for. But you need to wash it in non-hot water and preferably on a delicate cycle, since the fabric, despite all its positive characteristics, is quite thin.

In conditions of high humidity, nylon does not lose its properties. It does not absorb moisture at all. It does not get wet, the product does not become heavier or lose shape when exposed to water. That is why nylon is suitable for making swimsuits and diving suits.

Minuses

To complete the picture, it is necessary to identify the existing shortcomings of the material.

Nylon has low light resistance. It fades in the sun: a bright scarf or bow can turn faded and expressionless.

Like all synthetic materials, nylon accumulates static electricity well. Therefore, products made from it often stick to the body until they are treated with an antistatic agent.

The material is not hygienic. In hot weather, it is better not to wear items made of nylon: it does not absorb moisture at all, is not hygroscopic, and does not allow air to pass through. The body will simply be shackled in a spacesuit.

Nylon is a cold fabric. It will not warm you on a cold day; it does not produce warm, cozy things. However, when included in the fabric for outerwear, nylon will help make the material impervious to wind.

Scope of application

Let's consider where exactly nylon fabric is used.

Clothes are made from nylon. As a rule, completely nylon products are wear-resistant, but not very pleasant to the body. Most often, this fabric is used to make accessories: scarves with beautiful designs, ties, bow ties, etc. And for clothing, nylon is used as an integral part of fabrics. In this case, it gives the product its own unique characteristics.

Nylon clothing

Nylon curtains- a common home decoration item. Most often, so-called tulle is made from nylon - a light translucent material that gives windows an elegant look.

Nylon curtains

This artificial material is also used in high-tech industries: aircraft manufacturing, automotive production.

The fabric is used in the manufacture of stage and sports suits, as well as in evening dresses, when it is necessary to create an imitation of a “naked body”. Figure skaters, synchronized swimmers, and gymnasts often perform in similar outfits, and Hollywood stars appear on the red carpet in chic “naked” dresses.

Sports suits made of nylon

For finishing wedding dresses and making veils nylon tulle and lace made from this material are used. In this case, the big advantage of the fabric is that, for all its lightness and airiness, it is quite rigid and holds its shape well.

Nylon for finishing a wedding dress

It is impossible not to mention such a field of application as women's tights And. All women wear this piece of clothing and thank the scientists who came up with such a thin, elastic fabric that does not gather in folds and accurately follows the contours of the body.

Women's nylon tights

Beautiful underwear is also made from nylon.. Such products usually serve decorative rather than hygienic purposes. It’s not very comfortable to sleep in them, but you can have a romantic dinner in a peignoir made of beautiful bright fabric.

Women's underwear made of nylon

Nylon curtains turn out majestic and beautiful. The fabric drapes well and forms luxurious folds and waves. These advantages of the material are what made it so widely used in the production of home textiles. In addition, curtains require almost no ironing and are easy to care for, while being inexpensive.

Nylon curtains

If nylon threads are folded in several rows and twisted very tightly, you get a cord thread - a material that is used in the manufacture of tires.

High-quality water filters are made from this material.. The thinnest but durable fabric cells are capable of trapping the smallest particles of dirt.

Nylon for water filter

In addition to the above, uniforms are also sewn from nylon. Modern medical workers, trade workers, fishermen and even firefighters carry out their work in suits made of this fabric.

Care

Let's look at how to care for products made from this synthetic material.

Washing is acceptable at temperatures up to 30 degrees. At higher temperatures, the fabric may lose some of its valuable qualities. If you wash by hand, then if necessary, the items can be pre-soaked in a soapy solution.

Nylon curtains tend to acquire a dirty gray tint over time. This happens due to the accumulation of dust in the material. Static electricity, characteristic of artificial fabric, perfectly “magnetizes” dust. Due to this problem, it is recommended to regularly clean dust from curtains with a vacuum cleaner with a special attachment.

On the video of tissue care that needs special care:

After washing, rinse thoroughly. Otherwise, particles of detergents stuck in the fibers will eventually lead to yellowing of the snow-white curtains.

Products are not wrung out in the machine. After washing, you need to remove them from the machine, let them drain, and then hang them on a line to dry. It is recommended to straighten it thoroughly before drying - in this case the product will dry without creases. You can iron, but only at low temperatures.

If a textile product is saturated with an unpleasant odor, it is recommended to ventilate it in the air. After a couple of hours of such natural treatment, there will be no trace of unpleasant odors.

Price

The cost of the fabric is low. Thus, a meter of Korean-made plain polyester nylon will cost only 160 rubles. If you wish, you can find a cheaper price. And for large purchases, usually all manufacturers provide significant discounts.
