How to sew a headscarf for a woman. How to sew a scarf with an elastic band: pattern, materials, master class. Now - fantasize

This scarf is a universal summer headdress. It will not only cover your head from the sun, but will also serve as decoration. From an everyday scarf, it can turn into a smart headband thanks to the double-sided folds that can easily be folded inside the headband.

We will need:
- Thick cotton fabric
- Elastic band 2.5 cm thick and 15 cm long.
- Threads of a suitable color
- Decor for the headband (you can do without it).

1. First of all, let's determine the size of the bandage. To do this, measure the circumference of your head. My daughter’s head circumference is 45 cm (1.8 years). We subtract 13 cm from the circumference of the head and get the width of a large rectangle. 45 - 13 = 32cm. The length can vary from 23 to 30cm. I took the length 25 cm. The result was a rectangle 32 cm wide and 25 cm long. We add 1 cm to the allowances and get a 33x26cm rectangle that we need to cut out.

For the bottom of the bandage, into which the elastic will be threaded, cut out a rectangle 34x7.5cm.

2. Cut out the details of the bandage.

3. We make the part with an elastic band.

Sew a strip for the elastic. To make the strip exactly the size of the elastic, which should fit perfectly in it, when laying the stitch, I put the elastic on top, retreating a few mm from the fold line. I lay the line at a distance of a few millimeters from the elastic band. You need to sew carefully, without catching the elastic.

Turn the strip over onto your face. I do this using a long, wide knitting needle or scissors.

Insert the elastic into the strip. Also using a knitting needle. Our part with an elastic band is ready.

4. We process the edges of the main rectangular part. We fold the long edges of the rectangular piece twice, 0.5 cm each, and sew a stitch.

This is what the main rectangular piece looks like with hemmed edges. We process only two opposite edges in this way.

5. Sew the part with the elastic to the main part. I did it in such a way that I got folds on both sides. To do this, place the edge of the elastic, seam up, on the center of the raw smaller edge of the rectangle, so that the edge of the elastic extends 1 cm onto the rectangle. The rectangle is wrong side up.

I alternately form folds on both sides.

The finished edges of the rectangle create slightly smaller folds in the center of the elastic.

I secure the folds with a stitch back and forth several times to be secure.

On the front side, the folds converge beautifully towards the center.

We turn the edge of the strip into which the elastic is threaded by 0.4 cm and pull it over the rectangle sewn to the elastic so that the sewing seam is covered by 1 cm.

The accessory is a rectangular neck scarf. One end is elongated and there is a loop at the end. The presence of a loop allows you to vary the ways of tying the pediment.

The French scarf is a double-sided item. You can cut out parts from one type of fabric or combine two different patterns and colors.

Sewing a headscarf is easy. It is enough to have some sewing skills and know the selected materials.

Selection of materials

Choose fabrics that suit you in color and texture.

A transforming accessory can be made from:

  • silks;
  • light woolen fabrics;
  • thin x
  • and etc.

Chiffon, silk or viscose are suitable for summer. In winter, cotton or wool fabrics are appropriate.

You can use lightweight knitted fabrics, fabrics made from bamboo fibers and fabrics using polyester.

For sewing scarves, it is preferable to choose natural fabrics.

Important condition– the fabric should be light, well-draped, comfortable to wear. Depending on your desire and mood, you can make a scarf from a dense material that holds its shape well, but is not rigid.

By the way, I have one scarf made from thick but transparent polyester and staple fabric. It turned out soft and moderately holding its shape. You can look for a variety of combinations.

Note to those who knit:

A French scarf can be knitted using the same pattern. As a rule, crochet is used for such purposes.

So, how to sew a French scarf? Below are recommendations for cutting and sewing a beautiful accessory.

To cut and sew a French scarf - transformer you will need:

  • pattern paper;
  • threads;
  • a piece of fabric 30-35 cm long; fabric with a width of 1.2 m;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • tape measure;
  • pencil;
  • sewing machine;
  • iron.

I did the cutting based on the dimensions of the pattern found on the Internet (unfortunately, the authorship is unknown).

I determined experimentally that the sizes can be changed. It is best to cut the elongated end of the scarf according to the measurement of the neck circumference.

Otherwise, the scarf will either dangle around the neck (in my first version it turned out like this, I had to shorten it), or, on the contrary, it will tighten the neck.

  1. Draw a pattern according to the diagram on a suitable sheet of paper.
  2. Prepare the fabric for cutting;
  3. Pin the pattern to the material folded in two layers (if you are using two types of fabric, then lay them face to face strictly along the grain thread);
  4. Trace the pattern along the outline;
  5. Cut out pieces and set aside.

Choosing a scarf material

Choose lightweight, well-draped materials.

It is better if these are fabrics containing cotton, linen and viscose. Although, a little synthetics and elastane will not affect wearing comfort.

Advice: If you have a scarf in the right fabric that you don't wear, you can sew it into a scarf and breathe new life into it.

For rigidity, we will strengthen the visor.

Medium-hard duplicating materials are suitable: non-woven fabric, dublerin, serpyanka, etc.

Note: If your cushioning material is not thick enough, glue it in two or three layers.

Uncover

Prepare the fabric: iron with steam or pre-wash and dry.

Using the suggested pattern, make a visor pattern.

For the base of the scarf, fold a piece of fabric 60-70 cm wide and long in half and cut diagonally. So that you get two identical triangles.

Cut out the visor from the remaining fabric. You will get two parts. Remember the direction of the grain thread. It coincides with the line of the middle of the part.

Preparing to sew

Set up sewing machine.

Duplicate both parts of the visor.

We continue to study sewing hats. Let me remind you that the site has already been reviewed on the blog, production and. All these hats Can be sewn for children and adults. It is only necessary to carry out the appropriate measurements and calculations.

Today I will describe how to sew a gathered scarf.

If you look at the drawing of the scarf, you may wonder how it will be tied. I immediately presented several models that differ in the way they are fastened. It is possible that there are more of them. So:

a) a scarf with gathers and an elastic band. In the drawing it is necessary to calculate the distance from point B to point B1 = O head - 2 (3 cm). And an elastic band 2-2.5 cm wide will be sewn into this missing place.
b) a scarf with gathers and ties. Distance BB1= Heads. And strips 30+30 cm long (for 2 ties) are cut out separately.
c) A scarf with a gathered button. BB1= Headbands+4 cm (overlap for fastener).
d) A scarf with gathers and one-piece ties. The size will allow you to tie it like a regular scarf. It is this method that will be calculated in the drawing.

Construction of a gusset drawing

1. BB1 = 90 cm. If necessary, take 100 cm. You can check using a simple thick thread. Cut off the required length, apply it to your head like a scarf and tie it.
2. BB3=B1B2=6cm – binding width.
3. BB1= 90 cm+10 cm=100 cm. Size 10 cm can also be increased to 15-20 cm. The larger it is, the thicker the folds will be.
4. ВВ2=В2В1=ВВ1:2=100:2=50 cm.
5. B2B3 – middle line of the scarf. B2B3 is perpendicular to line BB1 = 45 cm.
6. B4 and B5 – auxiliary points. ВВ4=В1В5=10 cm.
7. B4B2B5 – bottom line of the scarf. Connect these dots.
8. Trace the outline of the drawing.

Also in the figure you can see the image of another scarf. It is similar to a scarf with folds, but it has soft folds and is drawn like a triangle.
If you use your imagination a little more, you can come up with visors for such models.
The fabric must be chosen natural. Namely, chintz, linen, calico, poplin, madapolam and others.

Cut out the parts of the scarf as shown in the figure. Before cutting, you need to check the correctness of the layout. The sizes of the binding are already given with allowances, so you just need to trace the pattern on the fabric. In the scarf, add 1 cm along the smooth edge, and 1-1.5 cm along the smooth edges.

Handkerchief processing

1. Sew the straight sides of the scarf using a hem stitch with a closed or open cut.

2. Sew hand or machine stitches in two parallel lines as shown in the picture. The distance between lines is 0.5 cm.

3. Place the front side of the tape on the back side of the scarf and pin together the middle lines and ends of the scarf with the tape (up to the seam allowance).

4. Gather excess fabric along the edge of the scarf for gathering, evenly distributing the gathers along the middle part of the scarf. Baste, remove pins and stitch on the gusset side as shown in the picture.

5. Trim off excess fabric, turn the trim right side out and sweep away.

6. Fold the top edge of the binding inwards, baste and stitch.

7. Remove the basting and iron the finished product.

Some fabrics shrink, so before cutting it is advisable to soak it in water, dry it and only then cut it.
Regardless of the choice of scarf model, it is necessary to check the size of the long side of the triangle before cutting. You can simply take a rope equal to the length of the future scarf and try it on your head. If the length is not enough for tying, then it should be increased and vice versa.

From the picture you can also see how to construct and sew a similar headscarf.

How to sew a head scarf for a girl step by step

2. I overcast the edges of a large rectangle using an overlocker, using a zigzag stitch.
