The journal was founded in 2002 by the decision of the Volga Association of State Classical Universities (PASU).
Media registration certificate: PI No. 77-13-929 dated November 11, 2002. In 2003, the journal was assigned the international number of periodicals ISSN 1728-628X.
The journal publishes original articles containing the results of scientific and applied activities in the field of natural, technical, social, humanitarian and medical sciences, as well as review articles on the subject of the journal. It also reflects the results of the latest scientific research in various fields of knowledge, analysis of advanced technologies and achievements in science and engineering practice.
The purpose of the journal is to present the main scientific schools of the region, as well as to consolidate the efforts of scientists to solve urgent scientific problems.
The editorial board, which carries out an independent examination of scientific articles, consists of leading scientists from a number of regions of the Volga region.
The journal is published 6 times a year in the following areas:
- Natural sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology)
- Engineering sciences (electronics, radio engineering, instrument making, automation, computer technology, mechanical engineering, transport)
- Humanities (history, philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, art history, cultural studies, literary criticism, linguistics)
- Social sciences (sociology and management, economic sciences, politics and law)
- Medical sciences (general pathology, clinical medicine, general health issues, healthcare organization)
The journal "Izvestia of Higher Educational Institutions. Volga Region" is included in the list of periodic scientific and scientific-technical publications published in the Russian Federation, which recommend the publication of the main results of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Science.
