DIY craft box from a box. A lovely DIY box made of cardboard and fabric. Made from cardboard and fabric

I used this cardboard box as the basis for my craft box. At work we have reams of printer paper like this))

I measured the height of the bobbin - it turned out to be 5.5 cm, added a little and measured the height of 7 cm along the entire perimeter of the box, drew a line and cut it with a stationery knife.
Since the box is square (in my case), I left one side and glued the other. Here's what happened:

I shortened it and glued it back together. An important point - I glued it like this: first I bent the wall, and glued the “flaps” on the outside, because it will be braided anyway, but inside it turns out neatly, and the “tabs”, in turn, should reach each other. Perhaps the photo will make it clearer

For gluing I used a glue gun, because it hardens quickly, so there is no need to wait for it to stick. If it is not there, you can glue it with any glue that is convenient.
The result was a box with an internal size of 21.5*21.5 cm. External size - 22*22 cm.

We layer the allowances, cut off the inner, corrugated part with a stationery knife, bend the outer ones in different directions and slightly cut off the ends

Initially, I wanted to make compartments for bobbins and what was left to be made into a compartment for scissors and other small things, but when I started marking, I ended up with 4 identical compartments, and I filled them all with threads, which seems even better to me.

We mark 3 lines at equal distances on 2 opposite sides; for me they turned out to be at a distance of approximately 5.4 cm. Glue the partitions along the marks. I took a photo of how I glued the 1st one, and all the others similarly. I glued the partitions a little, leaving a gap at the bottom (1-2 mm no more), then I’ll write why.

Since the sides of the box turned out to be multi-colored, and the base is visible through the weaving, I sealed them with regular printer paper before weaving. Looking ahead, I want to say that the paper still had to be painted in the same color that I painted the box because no matter how hard I tried to paint it well, the white still showed through.

The outer part of the box can be decorated in any way you like - pasted over with wallpaper, fabric or some other option, but I wanted to try weaving from paper tubes.

Let's start weaving paper tubes right away. I don’t remember exactly how many newspapers I got, because I prepared the tubes a long time ago (about a year ago), when I first found information on them, but I think 3-4 newspapers will go (that’s 60 pages). We only need the top and bottom white stripes of the newspaper; we cut them about 4-5 cm wide. I cut several sheets at once

Now we twist the tubes. I twisted it on wooden skewers for shish kebab, take a strip of paper on it at an angle of about 45 degrees, and start twisting, glue the corner with PVA glue or glue stick, twist it so that the white stripe looks out

When making straws, it is very important to control the twist angle so that it always remains the same. If this is not the case, then the tubes turn out to be short and at the beginning they have the same thickness, and at the end they are much thicker, but your hand will fill up very quickly. When we have woven enough tubes, we begin weaving.

For clarity, I took a few photos from here. We turn the boxes over and glue the tubes to the bottom, I repeat, I glued them with a gun, and on the site where the author took the picture, she used Titan glue (it is shown in the photo). I got 7 tubes on each side (every 3 cm) + 1 for weaving, no need to glue in the corners.

Then we turn the box over, put something heavy inside so that it doesn’t move, bend the tubes so that they look up and start weaving, I connected the tubes like this, dripped glue inside the ending tube with a gun and inserted the end of the next one there.

When we have woven it to the top, we cut the tubes that are vertical and glue them inside

We make an edging on top - take a tube and glue it on top

There was not enough paint for the entire box, so I painted the box with one and the lid with another (different shades). It was necessary to take either 2 sets or paint separately by color, there are large jars. Well, I digress from the topic, paint it and let it dry. We paint 2 more tubes - we will use them to make the edging at the bottom.

Next, using a stationery knife, we thin out part of the tubes that are glued to the bottom and inside the box, we do this very carefully so as not to cut it at all. We decorate the bottom of the box, I glued cardboard for appliques, and glue the prepared tubes at the bottom, here is my bottom

We decorate the inside of the box - I decided to cover it with colored paper, but I needed a lot, and the set contains 1-2 sheets, so I bought colored paper for the printer (in my case, bright yellow), I took 10 sheets of it, it was almost all gone. I glued it like this - from the beginning of the side with a bend to the bottom and the partitions, then the partitions - I took a sheet, measured it so that it could be glued on both sides, folded on top, and glued the bottom in one piece, pushing it between the partitions and the bottom.

Now let's move on to the lid.
To make it, I took another similar box, and “disassembled” it, measured my box, after braiding it turned out to be 24.5 * 24.5 cm. I drew the lid according to the diagram

The smallest rectangles are what we will glue - I removed the bottom and corrugated cardboard layers from them, folded them outward and glued them. Let's put it aside for now and get on with the embroidery. I measured the embroidery and cut out a square from thick cardboard according to these dimensions (if this is not available, then it can be made from fiberboard), cut out the padding polyester according to the size of the cardboard (so that the embroidery was voluminous) and stretched the embroidery.

Apply glue to the back of the cardboard with embroidery and glue it onto the lid, exactly in the center. We cover the inside of the lid with paper in the same way as we covered the box.

Now the final stage - I covered the remaining part of the undecorated lid with already painted tubes, because if you glue it right away and then paint it, you can smear the embroidery. In the end, we got this do-it-yourself box for handicrafts.

I hope my master class will help you get some boxes. I tried to describe all the stages in detail, but if you have any questions, please ask.

Another great one homemade from the readers and crazy hands of our site site. Look at the end result of this useful and beautiful little thing...

Making a DIY craft box is a chance to prove to yourself that you are capable of something. Since every craftswoman has a lot of trinkets for needlework: threads, needles, beads, ribbons, lace, and buttons... And you always want everything to be always at hand, in one place. I don’t want to look for everything in corners, shelves and drawers. A lot of time is wasted looking for this or that item, which could have been spent on something worthwhile. To keep everything in one place, you just need to have a drawer or box that is easy to carry and store.

The handicraft market provides a wide selection of different cases and organizers for every taste and color. And everyone will definitely find for themselves everything they want within their pocket. But why spend money on something you can do yourself? You can make a box or drawer no worse, or even better. Our DIY craft box will also be a great addition to the overall look of the interior, as it will be stylish, modern and fashionable. That’s why we are needlewomen, it’s always more pleasant for us to make things.

Let's start making a DIY craft box

For work we will need:

  • Empty shoe box of suitable size;
  • Fabric (ordinary calico can be used) – 1 meter;
  • Lace – 1.5 meters;
  • Glue (for example, PVA) – 1 package;
  • Scissors;
  • Ruler.

The process of making a DIY craft box

Decorating a craft box with your own hands

Cover the lid of a craft box with lace

Glue a bow to the lid of the box

  • If you still have marks from the glue, don’t worry, when it dries, the mark will disappear.
  • If desired, you can make cardboard compartments in the middle of the box and also cover them with fabric. Even small boxes are suitable for this, which are then glued inside.

Boxes are great for storing small items such as ribbons, lace, thread, knitting tools and so on. And the original decor of the box can make it not only useful, but also a stylish addition to the interior. A craft box can even be made from simple and affordable materials with your own hands, such as empty boxes and sheet cardboard.

Any box is valuable because it helps to preserve useful and simply memorable things, because even the most beautiful decorative item will never stand empty on the shelf.

A homemade box can be an excellent gift for a loved one. A person puts a piece of his soul, warmth and love into every homemade thing. In addition, such things are always unique and inimitable. They transform the interior of the house, making it more original and alive. People usually keep even children's crafts as memories.

How to make a box from a cardboard box for handicrafts with your own hands?

In this master class we decorate a cardboard box using decoupage technique.

To work on the box you will need the following tools and materials:
  • An empty cardboard box (in our example, from under the tiles).
  • Scissors.
  • Ruler and pencil.
  • Flat brushes.
  • PVA glue (universal construction carpentry glue), as well as a glue gun.
  • Acrylic paints and acrylic varnish.
  • Three-layer paper napkin, background
  • Napkins for decoupage - 3 pieces of single-layer textile (41x41 cm) and a single-layer with a background pattern.
  • Button and ribbon.
Let's start working on the craft.

The box we chose has a main body and a removable lid. If you need a larger box, you can choose a similar shoe box. In any case, its design needs to be transformed so that, in the end, the box opens and closes like a chest.

The depth of the lid should be noted by drawing a line along three sides of the future box and cutting off the excess along it. Glue the remaining wall to the base of the box.

To reduce paint consumption, prime the surface of the box with PVA glue and dry it. Then we paint all the walls with white paint. The workpiece should look like in the photo:

For the main decor using the decoupage technique, we use single-layer textile napkins that resemble fabric in appearance. Before starting work, try on the napkin, determining the best location. It should completely cover the front of the lid, and its edge will extend onto the inner surface. We first apply glue to the box, then apply a napkin and apply a second layer of glue on top. Dry the work and glue a napkin to the side, as large as its size is sufficient.

We also glue the back surface of the box and dry it. Drying will take longer than a regular paper towel. Glue the next napkin onto the bottom of the box, coat the bottom with glue according to the same pattern. Let the work dry again and fold the remaining part inward.

It is important to dry the piece thoroughly before moving to the next side, this will take some time.

Let's move on to working on the sides of the box. Glue the third napkin, bending the edges inward. To ensure that it holds well, it is better to use clamps. You also need to leave part of the napkin for the inner surface of the lid. We glue a paper napkin with a background pattern of a suitable tone to the bottom. Apply glue on top of the napkin in the direction from the central part to the edges. Lastly, glue the section of the inside of the lid and dry the box well. After this you need to cover everything with acrylic varnish.

Use wood glue to glue the ribbon along the edge of the lid and from the inside where the patterns meet. It will be part of the decor and will cover the seams.

The button for the fastener should be painted to match the color of the main flower on the napkin. We make a loop from the braid, twisting the edge like a snail. We attach the loop to the lid using a glue gun. We thread a cord through the holes of the button and glue it to the wall of the box opposite the loop.

The craft box out of the box is ready!

How to quickly and easily make a craft box from cardboard and fabric

This box is very convenient for storing threads, needles and other sewing accessories.

For this job you will need:
  • Thick cardboard (sheet or from a box).
  • Stationery knife and scissors.
  • Moment glue and stapler.
  • Patterned fabric and fleece.
  • Linen elastic.
  • Satin ribbons and lace.
Let's start making the box.

This master class shows how to make a small box 10 cm in height. The size of the finished product depends on which sheet of cardboard you use for the base; you can choose a larger size. We divide a square of 30x30 cm into 9 small ones with a side of 10 cm.

The corner squares must be cut out using a knife, leaving a cross-shaped blank. We cover the part with fabric, applying glue only to the wrong side of the material.

For squares cut with a knife, reduce all edges by 5 mm. According to their size, we cut out blanks from fleece, then from a slightly larger fabric. We cover the squares with fabric with a fleece backing, wrap the fabric and glue it.

We bend the workpiece along the lines, pushing them through with a pencil. Glue a piece of fabric to the bottom.

Let's start making the lid. Cut out another square from cardboard. The inside is 10 cm, and the sides are 4 cm. We cover the workpiece with fabric. For the handle, cut a slot through which we thread the lace. We secure it with a stapler and glue the inner walls.

We cut out a rectangle from cardboard with sides of 10 and 24 cm. Having drawn the lines, bend it according to the following pattern: 7, 5, 7, 5 cm. Cover the inner surface with fabric. We assemble and glue the parts of the box.

For decoration, you can make flowers from satin ribbons. We cut strips (5 pieces) 10 cm long and fasten them with thread in the middle. Fold it in half and string it on a thread. We close everything into a ring, tighten it and secure it. We decorate the center of the flower with a bead.

The cardboard and fabric box is ready! Such crafts will definitely please the eye and add coziness to the home.

Video on the topic of the article

For those who want to get new original ideas for creativity and understand the process of making boxes more clearly, we have prepared a selection of video master classes:

Every needlewoman will tell you that inspiration comes when the mood is great and there are beautiful and cute little things at hand around. A handicraft box in the form of a chest or basket is always pleasing to the eye and helps to store all the small things. In general, a handicrafts box can tell a lot about its owner, how neat and attentive she is to detail. We offer to make a very original handicraft box with your own hands.

Craft box: master class

Before making a craft box, let's prepare the following:

  • 5 jars (reels from a large roll of tape will also work);
  • fabric (it is better to take thin cotton fabric with a small pattern);
  • braid or lace;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • thick cardboard.

Now let's look at step-by-step instructions on how to make a craft box:

1. First, cut out a rectangle with a height equal to the height of the jar. We glue the outside. Don't forget to leave the hem allowances inwards.

2. This is what our workpiece looks like at this stage. In this way we work through all the jars.

3. Cut out a circle from cardboard the size of the bottom of the jar. We cut out another circle from the fabric, but a couple of centimeters larger. We glue the fabric onto the cardboard blank. Now we make cuts along the entire edge at an angle.

4. Insert the cardboard with fabric into the jar and place it on the bottom. Carefully glue the edges of the fabric to the inside of the jar.

5. From a fabric of a different color, cut out a rectangle with a width equal to the height of the jar. Glue it to the inner wall.

6. Five of these blanks need to be made.

8. In addition to the circles, you need to cut out a rectangle. Its dimensions also depend on the size of the jars. In our case, the height of the jars is 4 cm, which means the width of the rectangle will also be 4 cm, length 13 cm.

9. Place the blanks on a piece of fabric as follows. It is necessary to leave 5 mm gaps between the parts.

10. We trace on the fabric and paste over our cardboard craft box.

11. Cut out three blanks from fabric with a different pattern. Their sizes should be slightly smaller than the main ones; we will use them to cover the inside of the handicraft box.

Master class on making a craft box

Razumova Valentina Nikolaevna, teacher at the Shukhobod kindergarten
Description: I present to your attention the process of making a round box from a linoleum tube, decorated with fabric and fittings, as well as a butterfly made using the kanzashi technique. The master class will be useful for creative people, teachers of kindergartens and schools for their own self-realization in creativity. It can also be used in circle activities with older schoolchildren.
Purpose: a box for needlework, a gift for loved ones, a craft for an exhibition or competition.
Target: making a round box for needlework from waste material and fabric.
Tasks:
* introduce the technology of making a round box from a linoleum tube or fabric;
* develop the ability to decorate a product with fittings and butterfly decoration using the kanzashi technique;
* develop your own creative potential.

Any needlewoman, of which I include myself, always has at hand a lot of all sorts of “necessary” things, little things, beautiful trinkets, scraps that are waiting for their “finest hour” when they find their use. Until that hour comes, they often gather dust, and we listen to irritated grumbling: “When will all this end?...and how long will all this disgrace continue?!” And also: “When are you going to throw away all this trash?”
At the same time, every creative teacher knows that toilet paper rolls, buttons, shreds, bottles and bottles and other “trash” are valuable materials for creativity. You just need to find a use for it.

Manufacturing process

Today I suggest using an ordinary linoleum tube to make a beautiful box. Of course, not all of it will be needed. We need to cut off the piece we need to the size we need.

My blank has a height of 11 cm, a diameter of 11 cm. Blanks of a smaller height can also be used for making boxes.
Materials and tools:
* round blank;
* corrugated or any thick cardboard, foil cardboard.;
* scraps of green fabric;
* braid and lace in gold and green shades;
* glue: “Moment” transparent, “Superglue”, “ErichKrause”, “Moment-Montazh”;
* needle, thread, scissors, padding polyester;
* pencil, felt-tip pen;
* for making a butterfly: scraps of fabric in green and yellow shades, a candle, matches, beads, silver cord.

First we need to prepare templates for the bottom and lid of the future box. To do this, place a round base blank on thick cardboard and trace it with a pencil, first along the outside - there will be two such templates.

Next, we trace our blank along the inner contour; there will be only one such template.

We get the following blanks:

Cut out the details.

For now, we’ll leave them and start gluing the base of our future box. We coat the workpiece with glue - you can use any glue you have on hand, preferably transparent. We take a long piece of fabric (I have green), bend it in half lengthwise and gradually wrap the box with such tape, covering the uneven edges of the fabric with the previous layer.

We continue to act in the same way, gradually wrapping the entire workpiece.

Gluing the last turn of fabric, we bend the uneven edge of the tape inward. It should look something like this: beautiful and aesthetically pleasing both inside and out:

While the base of the box dries, let's work on the bottom. Take the cut out template and trace it on the fabric, stepping back a little from the edge. Cut it out.

We take a beautiful sheet of foil cardboard that matches the color of the box - this will be the inside of the bottom.

We trace the bottom template on the wrong side of the cardboard and cut it out.

The resulting blanks for making the bottom of the box were: a circle made of thick cardboard, a circle made of foil cardboard, a circle made of green fabric of a suitable color - green.

We cover the cardboard with green cloth like this, coating and folding the edges of the cloth:

We close the top with a beautiful circle of foil cardboard.

The result was a beautiful bottom of the box, covered with cardboard on one side and fabric on the other.

Glue the bottom to the box with any glue. You can arrange it in different ways, I decided to draw it inward.

Inside view:

It’s better to put the box under pressure so that it sticks better. For this purpose, we place several books on top.
We are working on the lid of our future box ourselves. We take two templates - one made according to the outer diameter of the base of the box, the other along the inner one. We place the templates on the fabric, trace them with a felt-tip pen, making allowances of about 2 cm. Cut them out.

We sew a larger circle of fabric along the edge with a “forward needle” seam and tighten it slightly.

We stuff it with padding polyester.

Place a circle of cardboard on top and tighten the fabric. We stitch for strength.

This is what happened.

Let's start decorating the lid. Sew gold lace around the edge.

Result (view from the wrong side):

View from above:

You need to close the ugly underside of the lid. For this you will need a second part. The algorithm is the same as for the manufacture of the first part. We sew along the edge of the fabric with a needle-forward seam, pull it together and stitch it. There is no need to stuff it with padding polyester here.

The result was two lid parts trimmed with fabric, one of them with lace. Front side:

Wrong side.

Coat it with Moment glue (transparent) and glue the two parts of the lid together.

We get the following result.

We cover the top of the lid with a beautiful braid.

We also cover the bottom edge of the box itself with braid, covering the junction of the bottom and the base of the box.

The box is almost ready.

I want to decorate the lid. There can be many options. I decided to make a butterfly.

Making a butterfly using the kanzashi technique

We will need:
* scraps of fabric in green and yellow-gold shades or satin ribbons;
* candle, matches
* tweezers, scissors;
* beads, thin silver cord;
* Moment glue is transparent.

We cut the pieces of fabric into 5 by 5 cm squares. For the butterfly you will need 4 green squares and 4 yellow squares. It is better to use satin ribbons, but if there are no ribbons of suitable shades, then you can use any synthetic fabric, as in my case. We scorch the edges of the squares in the candle flame. You can also use a lighter or burner for this purpose. But a candle is more convenient for me.

Let's start making wing petals. Take the green square of fabric and bend it in half diagonally.

Then fold it diagonally again.

We take the yellow square and follow the same algorithm. Bend in half.

Half again.

We combine the resulting blanks. Place the yellow one on top of the green one.

We connect the corners of the blanks together, forming a petal. We scorch the edges in a candle flame. We use tweezers so as not to burn our fingers.

In the kanzashi technique it is called "double sharp petal". We make four such wing petals.

We cut some fabric from the underside of the petals, aligning them.

Burn the edges of the petals:

Result:

We begin to form a butterfly out of them.

We glue the wing petals together with Moment glue, first in pairs, then among themselves. For strength, I also stitch it with thread.

We form the body of the butterfly from beads, sewing or gluing them, the head of the butterfly is a black bead. We make the antennae from a thin silver cord in this way: we thread a needle and thread into the bead, grab the silver cord, and pull it inside the bead. Apply glue to secure the antennae.
The butterfly is ready.
