In the spring, watching the trees and grasses awaken from their winter sleep, I was excited to draw EVERYTHING! And I will conduct classes on coloring flowers not from my imagination, but from actually knowing what they look like in life. It would be truly honest, of course, if students drew everything and always from life, but one can only dream about this. But what I can draw myself and get a clear idea of the real appearance, I must study in practice.
So, what is our next topic on the program? - . Okay, I’ll draw a sunflower from life and everything will be fair - I’ll be “in the know.”
There were several blooming sunflowers in the school plot. It’s already mid-September - the fact is that the seeds won’t have time to ripen, and I’m not so ashamed to pick a beautiful flower. And, besides, I give my word that I will draw at least three portraits of him from life.
Today will be the first lesson on how to draw a sunflower. I will draw on white A3 cardboard.
Our nature is large, the stem is long, strong, heart-shaped leaves on long petioles are arranged alternately. The peduncle is slightly curved. The flower is large, located in three quarters, that is, not sideways to the viewer and not as is usually painted - in a vertical plane. We already learned how to depict a three-quarter flower when we drew a chrysanthemum. The long, elliptical petals of a sunflower do not all diverge strictly along radii in such a disciplined manner; some are curled up haphazardly, but to depict this in a similar way, you need to have a living nature before your eyes.
First, a general diagram - I outline the direction of the stem, the direction of the leaves (midribs), the size and location of the flower. It's not so simple with a flower. The flower is round, but we are looking at it at an angle. So it looks like an oval, and even tilted. Let us mark the size of the middle of the flower and the border of the petals.
Now we draw each petal one at a time. They are not at all as even and neat as they seem in the imagination. Not at all - not one is like the others, everyone is different!
We've sorted out the flower - now let's draw differently unfolded leaves.
The composition turns out to be quite balanced - I draw the details. I do the drawing with the lightest strokes without pressure. And you learn to start building with a sketch using light lines without pressing the pencil.
A lyrical and pedagogical digression: most children draw any line with a simple pencil with strong pressure and get a black mark and even a mark pressed into the paper. If you do not teach it consciously, then all attempts to teach how to construct a drawing using additional construction lines will lead to the fact that the work will immediately be covered in black and black so that later these construction lines cannot be erased by anything at all. Therefore, teach children the ability to regulate pressure, understanding that additional lines will be removed and should not be emphasized too much, that is, understanding what they do and why.
Now it's time to think about coloring. In art school this stage was called “color decision”, but God bless them with names - you can just say “let’s paint”, the main thing is to approach the matter with soul. I'll be working in watercolor and starting with the whisk.
Actually, you first need to decide on the color and tone in general, but I got carried away and first spent a long time drawing the flower, and only then I remembered and grabbed the leaves.
Now we can work out the details. Here, for example, is the middle of a flower basket - there are small tubular flowers of a greenish-brown color, some with a long yellow pistil visible. I will paint with the thinnest brush - with small, frequent strokes. The petals (marginal reed flowers) are not at all so uniformly yellow. They have longitudinal folds that create shadows; at the base the petals are of a more saturated color, even somewhat orange, and towards the end they lighten and become almost lemon yellow.
In this lesson we will look at how to realistically draw a sunflower with a pencil step by step. To do this, we will need pencils of different softness, such as 2H for light tones, HB for medium tones and 2B for dark tones. You can choose other pencils that you are used to drawing with.

Using a 2H pencil, draw the core and several petals of a sunflower. The lines should be very light. In the picture they are very darkened in Photoshop so that you can see them, in fact they are barely noticeable. 
Draw even more petals.

Now we draw the stem and leaves on the left.
Then the leaves on the right.
The result should be a sketch of a sunflower like this. Use an eraser to lighten the leaves a little.
The color source is located on the top right, the day is cloudy, so the shadows are soft. If you are right-handed, then we shade from left to right (as in my case), if you are left-handed, then vice versa, from right to left. In reality the drawing is much lighter than in the picture. We use different pencils, I use mechanical 2H to create light shades, HB - for medium and 2H - for darker ones, while in light areas the hatching lines are far from each other and very light, and in dark areas we do the hatching close to each other friend and use it in some areas. Remember that the less pressure on the pencil, the lighter the lines will be. In the lightest areas of my drawing, I don't press the pencil at all, the pencil's own weight does it for me, so the lines are very light. When you finish working on your drawing, be sure to check whether you have correctly distributed light and shadow, penumbra, half-light, etc. Check the foliage and petals to see if you're missing anything.
We continue to shade.
We draw the core of the sunflower, it consists of circles that become small and dark towards the middle. The direction has a spiral shape.
We do the shading on the bottom of the sunflower.
Leaves on the left.

Before we start depicting our sunny flower - find a good example. It's best if you use a living sunflower as an example, take a good look at it, twirl it and hold it in your hands, and then leave your impression on a piece of paper. If it’s not the season, it’s worth choosing photographs of sunny plants from different angles and at different stages of flowering as nature.

Shape and layout
Let's outline three flowers, draw them at different angles. First, we outline the stem with a light line; it will look better if we bend or tilt it a little. We will inscribe the entire flower into simple geometric shapes, circles and ovals, and inside we will outline two more circles, indicating the “basket” with seeds and its relief.
It is also worth marking the green petals, which are located along the entire stem.
Refinements and drawing
Petals
Most varieties of sunflowers familiar to us have two rows of petals. The shape of the yellow leaves is quite simple; they look like a rhombus with rounded edges or a very elongated oval. The petal of the top row partially overlaps the two leaves below. It’s not difficult to show and place the petals correctly; fit them into the previously outlined circles, trying not to go beyond.
When drawing the petals, don't be too precise, try to make them a little different from each other. It’s good if several leaves get out of order, bending or turning.
Stems
To be closer to the sun and not fall into the shadow of other plants, the sunny flower turns all day and reaches out to the light, so it has tall and strong stems. Sometimes several inflorescences can be placed on one stem.
Pay attention to how the flowers are attached to the stems. This is clearly visible in our drawing, on the flower on the right. This is a very interesting angle of the flower to contemplate; try to show it correctly in your work. Yellow petals emerge from under small green leaves on the stem.
Leaves
The green leaves of sunflowers can be fitted into a fairly simple heart-shaped or teardrop-like shape. Next, it should be clarified a little, showing the uneven edges of the leaves with wavy lines or sharp corners.
Baskets
Our flower has large, distinct baskets, in which we can see neat rows of tiny yellow and greenish dots or ripened seeds. The flower basket may be convex or have a dent in the center.
With the help of strokes we can show the direction of the rows of grains, as well as the shadow on the relief surface. Barely noticeable rounded strokes will help show many small objects, which make up the basket of this plant.
buds
Pay attention to the sunflower buds. They are shrouded in green leaves of the stem. Some green leaves cover the flower, others are spread out in different directions.
Start drawing a bud from a circle, using light lines to outline the direction of the leaves. This is shown in the illustration above the number "1". Further, these shapes can be further detailed and drawn, like the flower “2” in the image above.
Color
To enliven the drawing and give it greater expressiveness, use colored pencils, pastels or even paints.
Show light and shadow on petals, leaves and stems. Mark the brightly lit tips of the yellow petals almost white. Those parts that are in the shadow are rich yellow or a color close to brown.

- To give a natural and natural color to the leaves and stems, you should use not only green pencils, but also brown ones.
- Paint the center of the flower, where future seeds ripen, black. Using a felt-tip pen with a thin rod or liner, we outline the entire drawing and add small lines to create texture.

The sunflower flower immediately attracts attention due to its bright and cheerful colors. Drawing it is not at all difficult, so both adults and children can cope with this task. Having prepared everything you need, you can start depicting a sunflower:
Draw a small circle.
Draw a second circle larger than the first.
Draw a third circle with an even larger diameter than the first and second.
