Advanced Capes mod for Minecraft was designed for players who want to awaken their inner superhero or want to represent something through their character in Minecraft. There have been many modifications but before this one, but none of them have showed the level of finesse and polish that this one does. It's worth mentioning though that the changes made by this mod are purely cosmetic, which is why the capes you wear won't really give you any actual bonuses in terms of actual gameplay. Therefore, if you were looking to get some advanced gameplay features along the stunning capes, then you should probably look elsewhere.

Using this mod is quite simple and easy. Once you have the mod applied, open the game, and once in the game you simply hit the C key to bring up the cape menu. In this menu there will be a blank space where you can put a URL, and this URL is basically a link to the image/design you want on your cape. Simply paste the URL, press the dial button, and your cape will automatically adjust according to the image in the URL. One really important thing to keep in mind is that whenever you upload an image that will be used as a cape, the image must be in PNG format, otherwise it will likely have some compatibility issues with the mod.

Capes for Minecraft also come with a helpful template that you can use to design your own capes, upload them to any image hosting website, copy the URL, paste it into the mod's URL window, and use your cape in all its glory. Of course, it's worth remembering that you need the Minecraft Forge installed in order to operate the Minecraft cape mod properly.

Minecraft is already more than six years old, if you count from the beginning of development. During this time, several interesting traditions have formed in the game, some of which are related to holidays. Including Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Therefore, since winter has already arrived today (and in some “biomes” of the country it has already arrived even earlier, covering everything around with snow), we can remember what the Minecraft developers pleased us with last holidays and try to predict what will happen this year.

Perhaps, we will have to make a reservation right away, since the release of Minecraft 1.9 is not expected this year, we can only count on the changes that have already been introduced into the game. And a little about the snapshots - whether something else will be added to them is still unknown and it’s unlikely that we can expect something unique. But, first things first.

New Year's cloaks in Minecraft

I first encountered Minecraft's New Year's surprises in 2010. Then, to celebrate Christmas and New Year, the players were given raincoats, which all the players ran with. As far as I remember, that's when they were added to the game. Therefore, many, including myself, expected that the cloak would become an integral part of the player’s skin - another means of self-expression. However, after the holidays, the raincoats disappeared, becoming a super-exclusive product. Nowadays, the average player has virtually no chance of getting any kind of cape except by going to the annual Minecon conference. Once upon a time, the developers planned to distribute raincoats to participants in the Minecraft translation project, but after a number of abuses from those wishing to receive the coveted raincoat, this program was discontinued. But this doesn’t matter, now it will be more interesting to remember what the festive raincoats looked like.

In subsequent years, neither for Christmas, nor for the New Year, or for any other holidays, capes were “issued” to the players. I think nothing like this will happen this time either.

Congratulatory inscriptions

When you launch Minecraft, the first thing you notice is the bright yellow inscription under the title. Here, during the holidays, the developers naturally congratulate the players.

On the twenty-fourth of December the inscription “Merry X-mas” was displayed, and on the first of January - “Happy new year!” This year it will be exactly the same, at least in the latest snapshot 15w47c, the corresponding code is present.

Holiday Chests

Holiday chests first appeared in 2012, in version 1.4.6, to celebrate Christmas 2012. True, the trap chests still had the old texture. But in one of the latest updates, .

Such chests can be seen in the game during the Christmas holidays from December 24 to December 26 inclusive. The code that determines the displayed texture is also present in the latest Minecraft 1.9 snapshots and is unlikely to be removed from the game this year.

Fireworks for the New Year!

Fireworks were added to Minecraft 1.4.6 along with chests. Perhaps this has nothing to do with the upcoming Christmas, and if version 1.4.6 had come out earlier (or vice versa later), fireworks would still have been added. But it seems to me that it was not for nothing that their implementation was timed to coincide with the holidays - it’s hard to imagine a more New Year’s “item”. Fireworks remained in the game not only during the holidays, but forever.

Skis don't work or subtle English humor

Minecraft developers love to joke. Not everyone has the opportunity to do this on a large scale; Nathan Adams, aka Dinnerbone, distinguished himself most in the field of applied Minecraft humor. By the way, it is not surprising that he is often criticized for this - English humor (Dinnerbone is English) often remains misunderstood. Dinnerbone usually jokes when describing snapshot “releases.” Sometimes his jokes hide hints of interesting functionality. And one day he “added” skis to Minecraft, which everyone started looking for. He did this in version 1.4.6, placing the ski texture in the same package as the holiday chest textures.

I don’t know how much hype there was around these textures, I think they saw through it quickly (you don’t need to have any unique skills to understand that this texture is not used anywhere). But I think that someone ran to pick up a crafting recipe for them.

Skis were not added to Minecraft, but at Christmas 2013, the game featured a rain of pigs riding chickens.

Pig and chicken rain

To be honest, I don’t even want to comment on this. There are no words. And there is no idea how this could have even occurred to the developers. But the rain looked very impressive. True Minecraft surrealism.

Santa's Reindeer or Jeb's Unfulfilled Promise

Almost a year ago, ddant1100, a member of the reddit community, proposed introducing wonderful deer into the game. The three-dimensional model he proposed fits perfectly into the Minecraft concept and, most importantly, everyone liked it. Including Jeb, who didn’t exactly promise, but indicated a possible date: next Christmas - i.e. very soon.

But still, I don’t think that deer will appear this year: time is approaching the long-awaited release of Minecraft 1.9, the global version is underway, and new functionality, even if it’s such cute deer, will only add new problems.

Pocket snowman

When the snowman (or snow golem) was added to Minecraft, it looked a little different than it does now. He didn’t have a pumpkin and looked (if you close your eyes to the cubic shape) to an ordinary snowman that sprouts along with the snow in our yards. Well, except without the carrots. Such a snowman can now be found in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta or Minecraft Pocket Edition, if you cut a regular snowman's pumpkin with scissors.

That a similar function will be added to regular Minecraft and, I think this is symbolic: snowmen in Minecraft 1.9 will look the same as in Minecraft Beta 1.9, several years ago.

Well, since the pumpkin on the snowman is from the pocket version, I want to believe that the remaining differences will also be implemented.

Pre-holiday releases

In previous years, almost always in December there was a version that could be called “pre-holiday”. Moreover, these were not some snapshots, but more or less stable versions.

For example, in December 2010 the first Beta was released, in 2012 - Minecraft 1.4.6, in December 2013 - version 1.7.4, and last year - the pre-release of Minecraft 1.8.2-pre1.

That is, every year in December a new version is released, which can be considered a holiday version. Will it be the same this year?

New year and new Minecraft?

Minecraft 1.9 was expected to be released this year, but according to the latest information, its release is . The developers explain this by the need to fix a huge number of identified errors before releasing a new stable version.

Working on mistakes is definitely important. Moreover, even if Minecraft 1.9 comes out right now, it will not have a very strong impact on multiplayer worlds - there are absolutely few servers that run on vanilla Minecraft; Most will need to wait for the release of the appropriate version of spigot and update the plugins.

Most likely, before the New Year we will see several more snapshots, perhaps even the last version of this year will have “pre-release” status. But release 1.9 will take place next year. But that doesn't matter. I just wonder what could be in all these New Year's snapshots? What will we see during the holidays?

Be sure to read it.
