Pattern of a women's cap. Sewing a denim baseball cap with a pattern. Making a Cap with Multiple Wedges

It is not difficult to make a pattern for an eight-piece cap, it is enough to more or less accurately calculate the shape of one wedge and outline the visor of your baseball cap on paper. It is much more difficult to sew a cap, since the technology for sewing any cap (male or female), including a children's model for a boy, is quite complicated and requires not only knowledge and experience, but sometimes a special machine.

In this master class, you can download a pattern for a gavroche (hooligan) cap, as well as find a detailed description of the process of sewing a women's eight-wedge cap.

How to build a cap pattern

You can find files on the Internet for the content of the pattern of various models of hats, hats and caps. But they are not always accurate and even more modern. Therefore, copy these two photos with a pattern of a wedge and a visor with a band and print in full size.

The size of the photo should correspond to the size of a sheet of A4 paper. There is a ruler to control the photo. Check the width of the pattern detail with a centimeter tape, if it matches the scale value of the ruler in the photo, then the cap pattern is printed correctly. Remember that using the printer settings, you can change the size of the printed image.

The numbers indicate the number of parts, and the arrows indicate the fractional direction of the cut. All parts of the pattern without seam allowances. The size of this pattern corresponds to 56-57 size. Check the diameter of the band circle.

Before cutting out the details of the cap from the fabric, you must take into account the fractional direction of each part. Do not forget to add allowances to the contours of these parts within 1 cm.

The wrong side of each wedge of the cap must be glued with adhesive cloth. The upper corners need to be cut to the size of the allowance, as shown in this photo.

Cap sewing technology from 6 or 8 wedges

A feature of assembling a cap from six or eight wedges is that you first need to sew two ladles from three or four parts.

Two halves of a four-piece cap are easier to sew together later than one wedge. And most importantly, this technique will allow you to collect all the wedges together, without distortions and symmetrically.

But first, before sewing both halves of the cap together, you need to cut off the corners of the allowances of the wedges of the cap at the top. This will avoid excessive thickening of the top of the cap and better laying out the ironed allowances.

It is best to iron the seams of the wedges assembled together on a special block for ironing the sleeves.

When cutting out two parts of the visor, add a seam allowance within 0.7 cm along the rim of the visor, and 1.5 cm to the line of attaching the visor to the cap. Please note that the visor for a women's cap should be slightly larger than the visor for a men's or children's cap.

Please note that the band can be cut out in one whole piece, or in two parts (with two seams). It will depend on the availability of fabric, as well as design solutions. There is a number 4 on the pattern of the band, but if it is solid, then there should be two of these parts, an outer and an inner band.

To make the visor better "go all out" when turning it out, be sure to cut the allowance to 0.5 cm.

It is advisable to buy an insert for a cap visor ready-made in a sewing supplies and accessories store. But if you do not have such an opportunity, you can cut it out of a thick plastic file or stationery folder, as shown in this photo.

How to connect a visor to a cap band

Please note that the outer band must be glued with adhesive cloth, as well as all other parts of the cap, except for the inner band. It will adhere to the head and therefore does not need to be duplicated.
Before sewing the visor to the top of the cap, you need to mark the center of the band and the visor, as shown in this photo.

Align the marks of the band and the visor together and connect both of these parts on the sewing and machine.

Those sections of the seams that will turn out, it is advisable to cut off the corners of the allowances.

Now you need to sew the second part of the band to the visor in a circle, as shown in the photo.

Lay out this seam as shown in this photo and secure it with a hand bias stitch.

All previous operations for assembling an eight-blade cap were difficult to do neatly and beautifully, but sewing a band to the top of the cap will be even more difficult.
First you need to sew the outer part of the band to the top of the cap.

In this form, the cap already has an almost completed look, but you still need to attach the lining.

How to make a lining for a cap

The parts of the lining are cut out the same size as the top of the cap (from wedges) and connected together in the same way. On one seam of the lining, an area within 10 cm must be left unsewn.

Pin the lining to the top of the cap with pins and sew them together with an allowance of no more than 1 cm.

Turn the cap outward through the left unsewn section of the seam of the lining parts.

Cap button

The button for a cap performs not only a decorative role, but also a practical one. Firstly, you will close the not always neatly made joint of the upper parts of the wedges, and secondly, you can also fasten the top of the lining with the stitches holding the button.

Here's what this cap looks like in finished form in the video.

How to sew a baseball cap Where can I get a beautiful baseball cap pattern? The popular American cap gained its popularity in Russia in the 80s and 90s and was a male attribute. Probably, many remember the time when baseball caps with foam rubber in front and mesh in the back came into fashion. By the way, I had such a baseball cap, and I was very proud of it. Such a thing determined the attitude towards fashion, as it is now customary to say “to be in trend”.

A baseball cap is a sporty style, but it can be combined with almost any style. A women's baseball cap can be sewn from any fabric and decorated with various decors. In this article I will tell you how to sew a baseball cap from jeans with your own hands.

To make a baseball cap, you will need:

  1. Fabric - 20.0 cm with a width of 150.0 cm (you can use old jeans or any other dense fabric)
  2. Finishing fabric - 15.0 cm with a width of 150.0 cm (cotton or colored cambric)
  3. Interlining
  4. Elastic band - width 3.0 cm, length 10.0 cm.
  5. Threads in the color of the fabric 3 pcs.
  6. Finishing threads for jeans 1 pc.
  7. Sewing supplies
  8. Sewing machine and overlocker

Open denim baseball cap

Thanks to the resulting pattern, I cut out the details of the cap from jeans with seam allowances of 1.0 cm.

As I mentioned above, the visor from the old baseball cap was perfectly preserved, so all that remained was to cover it with denim. But before that, on one of the details of the visor made of jeans (on the top part), we will lay decorative stitches. And if you wish, you can on both parts.

The visor itself is very rigid, if you connect the parts of the visor together, and then insert the visor and lay the finishing lines, then an ordinary machine will not take it. Therefore, in order not to violate the originality of the model, the lines can be laid before joining the parts.

After that, we grind both parts of the visor with a seam width of 0.5 - 0.7 cm.

We turn the parts on the front side and draw a piping towards the bottom part. Met unfamiliar words, then refer to and

Insert the visor and straighten the seam

We sweep the sections of the visor so that the rigid visor fits snugly between the parts.

A great idea on how to make a do-it-yourself baseball cap visor was suggested by blog subscriber Alexey Perepelkin from Nizhny Novgorod. The idea is simple, make a visor from an ordinary plastic mayonnaise bucket.

Aleksey wrote: “I marked the holes for the lines, pierced them with an awl and then manually stitched them, it’s not convenient to blindly look for holes, but still it turned out slowly.”

Great idea! I think now many will take this into service and save on buying a visor. Here it is a real non-waste production!

Another interesting way was suggested by a blog subscriber, Leonid. Make a do-it-yourself visor from several layers of paper: “Four to six layers of thick Whatman paper, any glue, waterproof (I glued it with Titanium). Choose or make a form. The simplest is a glass jar. I glued on an Ikea flower glass pot. It is conical in shape. Paper can be replaced with any sheet material. Coat the paper visor with varnish, preferably twice.

Many thanks to Leonid for the provided photos and his version of making a visor!

Processing of the upper part (tulle)

There are two ways to connect the parts of the upper part, in this article I will talk about one of them. When cutting the crown, each piece consists of two parts.

Thus, the cap is divided lengthwise in half, as if into two hemispheres.

First, we connect the details of one part of the cap, then the second (for dimensional stability of the front part, you can glue it with a dense adhesive cloth). Sections can be overcast with an overlocker or edged with a finishing fabric.

Then we connect both parts of the crown, process the sections (you can overcast in advance) and lay the finishing lines. The top part is almost ready.

The second method consists in the following sequence of processing the crown. First, the rear, side parts are connected together, the front parts are processed, and then they are connected to each other along the side line. You can choose any of the two options.

Rear recess processing

To process the recess at the back of the baseball cap, you need to cut out a strip of oblique trim from the finishing fabric, equal to the length of the cut of the recess, the width of the trim is 3.5 cm.

We process the cut of the notch with an oblique inlay

The connection of the visor with the crown

This is probably the most difficult thing in sewing a cap with a visor. Sew on the visor so that it turns out nice and neat. Therefore, first we find the center on the visor and combine it with the front seam on the crown.

We fix it with pins and fasten the visor to the crown with a seam width of 1.0 cm and grind it on a typewriter.

I will say from my own experience that it was not possible to sew beautifully the first time, and from the second, and even from the third. But with some attempt, I managed to sew it on, though in two steps. And not quite perfect because of the concave cut of the visor. But I hoped to fix everything by sewing on the facing.

Finishing the bottom cut

We cut out a strip of finishing fabric with a width of 7.0 cm and a length equal to the bottom cut of the baseball cap + 3.0 cm for the hem. We cut out a non-woven adhesive pad equal to the length of the facing and a width of 3.5 cm. We glue the gasket with an iron on the wrong side of the facing. Then fold the facing in half lengthwise, wrong sides inward and tighten.

We tack the finished facing to the bottom of the cap with a seam width of 1.0 cm, combining the cuts.

We grind the facing on the typewriter. We remove the tacking threads, we lay a machine fluff along the turning.

Elastic sewing

We measure the required length of the elastic band, taking into account the girth of the head and the elasticity of the elastic band. We sew the sections of the elastic between the facing and the notch at the back, while bending the ends of the facing inward.

On the front side of the cap, we fix the elastic band and the bent sections of the facing with stitches

So when worn, the elastic at the back regulates the tightness of the cap around the head. Instead of an elastic band, you can use Velcro tape (Velcro), lengthening the ends of the facing where the tape will be sewn.

Finishing

To prevent the facing from bending outward, we fix it with hidden stitches.

On the crown, where all the seams are connected, we sew a small button covered with fabric. How to wrap a button with fabric, I already wrote in the article,

As a decorative finish, the cap can be decorated with rhinestones, appliqués, embroidery or make holes. How to make holes in jeans

The history of the baseball cap

For the first time, a model similar to a baseball cap was presented to the public in America in 1849, at the presentation of a new sports uniform for the New York Knickerbockers baseball team, it was made of straw. Later in 1860, another team used the same model, but with a rounded visor to protect from the sun.

In the 1900s, the Brooklyn-style cap, with a long brim and button, became especially popular and was already sold in all stores. By 1903, the popular cap had a solid visor. The prototype began to look like a modern baseball cap in the 1940s, where a stiffer visor was used. In 1954, a baseball cap designed by New Era is included in the uniform of the US Major Baseball Team and becomes the standard.

That's all! Bye, until we meet again!

My . I'm on Twitter. Look on Youtube.

I would be grateful if you use the buttons:

An ordinary cap has an impressive historical past. As many as three states consider it their national headdress: Italy, Great Britain, and, oddly enough, Russia.

Men, women and children wear it with pleasure.

Cap - a headdress made of textiles, sheepskin, leather or suede, the distinguishing feature of which is the presence of a visor of various sizes.

The most common types of caps:

  • The cap is an eight-piece cap, she also got her name from the number of details, from which the top of the headdress is made. Well, the nickname is for the fact that in post-revolutionary Russia such a cap was loved by hooligans of all stripes. Suitable for everyone, has long been considered a classic. A distinctive feature, along with wedges, is a button - a button made of cap fabric.
  • "Duck" is suitable primarily for men. A peculiar name is a tribute duck-like shape. The visor, as a rule, does not stand out.
  • "Airfield" became popular in the USSR after the release of the film "Mimino", got its name for the flat top.
  • "German" or "cadet" came to us from the military parade ground. Military style without such an accessory is hard to imagine.
  • The prototype of the Cap is a very popular cap in Russia of the 19th century. The decoration is belts and embroidered cockades.
  • "Gavroche" differs from other styles in volume, softness of folds. At the height of fashion for several decades.

How to sew an eight-piece cap?

The classic eight-piece is not difficult to sew, but requires the accuracy of the pattern and accuracy in work.

Required:

  • Drape, cloth, jacquard, wool - 0.4-0.5 meters, with a width of 1.5 meters.
  • Lining fabric - 0.5 meters, with a width of 1.5 meters.
  • Interlining - 1 meter, with a width of 0.8 meters.
  • Button with foot.
  • Thick material for the visor, for example, a thermal napkin, thick oilcloth, cardboard, and so on.
  • Threads in tone.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Tailor's chalk and scissors.

Advice! If you have chosen a checkered fabric, and this is certainly a classic, make sure that the patterns of all the details of the wedges match.

Step-by-step pattern of an eight-piece cap

The pattern consists of the following parts:

  • Wedge - 8 parts.
  • Visor - 2 parts. We choose the width of the visor at will, the length is equal to half the girth of the head, minus 1-2 centimeters at will.
  • Okolysh - 2 parts. The length of this part is 2 centimeters longer than the girth of the head.

Advice! You can make the wedges of the crown not rounded, but with corners from the widest part. From above, in this case, your headdress will be octagonal.

Progress:

  • We are building a band pattern.
  • We grind the details of the pattern, follow the direction of the share and the pattern of the fabric. Seam allowances 0.7-1 cm.
  • Cut out.
  • Cut out 8 wedges from the lining fabric.

Making the top of a cap

It is customary to sew the upper part in two stages: at the first we get two blanks of four wedges, at the second we sew these blanks together.

Progress:

  1. We glue the wedges with interlining, or other adhesive pad.
  2. We sew two wedges in pairs. Make sure that the pattern, if any, matches exactly!
  3. We sew two pairs together, we got two blanks of four wedges in each.
  4. At the tops of the wedges, we cut off the corners of the seam allowances, then the center of our product will not bulge.
  5. We grind the resulting semicircles in a straight line.

Making a visor

Progress:

  • We make a part of the visor from durable material without allowances.
  • We also cut out a part from non-woven fabric.
  • We glue the fleece.
  • We assemble the “sandwich”: the parts of the visor glued with non-woven fabric face to face, on top there is a gasket made of dense material.
  • We sew along the long side of the visor.
  • Cut off the seam allowance to 0.3-0.5 cm, depending on the material.
  • We twist.
  • We sew along the short part of the visor.

Connecting the visor to the band of the cap

  • We cut out the detail of the band, allowances of 0.7-1 cm.
  • Sew the short sides together, this seam will mark the middle along the back.
  • We put the visor between the details of the band.
  • We adjust the band on the visor.
  • We sew the outer part of the band to the top of the cap.
  • We attach the inner part of the band to the crown.

Cap lining

The lining is made of non-staining, non-wrinkling, preferably breathable material.

Progress:

  • Cut out 8 pieces of wedges.
  • We sew the tulle according to the principle described earlier. We leave 10-12 cm unsewn in one seam, we need them to turn the product inside out.
  • We turn the cap inside out, put the lining on it face up.
  • We take the lining to the product.

Advice! If you don't want to sweep, use pins.

  • We turn the product through the hole we left.
  • Carefully sew the lining on the hands.

Button on the cap

Button - a button is needed to close the junction of all the wedges, in addition, when sewing on a button, we grab the lining with a few stitches:

  • We wrap a small piece of the main fabric around the button with the leg.
  • Smooth out wrinkles.
  • We sew so that the resulting button is smooth and neat.
  • We tighten the fabric and threads on the leg.
  • Carefully sew a button to the middle of the crown.

I remind you: in the right headdresses made of patterned fabrics, the pattern on the seams must match. If there is not enough fabric and it doesn’t work out, put something (a strip of another fabric that matches the color; braid, ribbon, rudder, strips of fur or leather, etc.)

More about hats and panamas -

Making hats is not an easy job. You can start by making gavroche caps or baseball caps in a sporty and casual style. They are easy to sew; modeling a pattern for a specific size also does not require serious effort. A handmade headdress will be the finishing touch to a boldly feminine look and will protect the wearer from the scorching sun, bad weather or cold weather.

The advantage of independent work is the ability to choose materials and decor. A ready-made baseball cap or a “hooligan” can be decorated with embroidery, piping made of contrasting fabric. For children, beaded jewelry, sewn flowers or sequins are appropriate. After you sew the product for the first time, you can change the basic model - make your own summer cap from breathable cotton or a demi-season headdress made of thick woolen fabric.

sorokulya.ru

The technology for sewing classic six or eight blades is not easy, and you need to prepare for work.

materials

  • Main fabric (denim, cotton, tweed or whatever you like) and lining material.
  • Adhesive material on a woven basis, interlining, thermal wipes.
  • Threads, braid, button with a leg, elastic bands (for a baseball cap).
  • Rigid base for the visor.
  • Sewing machine with needles - for example, No. 100.
  • Scissors, pins, tape measure, pattern paper.

In some cases, you need an overlock, but you can do without it. In the process of work, you have to iron the cut parts with steam, so you should stock up on everything you need in advance.

Pattern modeling

As in the manufacture of clothes, before sewing a cap, you need to make a pattern for it. An old, unnecessary headdress or a finished scheme is suitable as a base drawing. It needs to be adjusted to its size and transferred to paper the finished drawing in full size. The pattern-scheme can be modified at will - add actual strokes, unusual details. The model, created according to a unique idea with your own hands, will have no analogues, and it will make the image of the owner individualized.

marianovikova.ru

As a rule, standard drawings are designed for a head circumference of about 50-51 cm, and you need to adjust the parameters for yourself. In order for the product to look harmonious, it is necessary to evenly distribute additives or “cuts” along all seams - the total amount of the adjustment is divided by their number. Head circumference is measured in centimetres.

It is worth checking whether the seam allowances are taken into account in the sample and choosing the number of wedges. Their width along the bottom line is determined by dividing the girth of the head by the number of elements. On the finished scheme, you can change the number of wedges to your liking. After the cap pattern is ready, it is important to cut it correctly.

Features of cutting caps and baseball caps

The advantages of sewing hats with your own hands - the ability to choose any fabric. However, there are materials that cannot be cut immediately. They are first decated - placed in water and ironed with a hot iron. Before cutting fabric elements, you need to check their shared direction and add about one centimeter for allowances along the contour of the parts.

Open caps

  1. Fold the piece of fabric face inward and place the prepared pattern on it.
  2. Cut out the elements from the main part.
  3. Cut out the same details from the lining, adhesive material (except for the visor).
  4. Make a visor from thermal fabric or a rigid base.
  5. Connect the elements of the adhesive and the base material - you will need an iron.

wallpaperup.com

For the visor, two parts are cut out, allowances are added on the edge up to 7 mm. On the line of attaching the element to the crown, the increase should be greater - up to 15 mm. Bands are sometimes cut out as a single piece - this determines the decision of the master and the amount of material. On cutting, the whole elements will have two parts - external and internal. In women's caps, visors do a little more than for children or men.

The sequence of cutting baseball caps is similar. For her, you can make patterns from an old and unnecessary headdress - rip it into elements and, if desired, use the visor again. Cutting is done with the same centimeter allowances, but the sewing technology is somewhat different from the method of making caps.

Making a Cap with Multiple Wedges

So that the finished thing is symmetrical and distortions do not appear in it, it is better to start with models with six or eight elements. For them, two halves are first made (from three or four parts, respectively), and then they are sewn together. Thanks to this technique, it is easier to work and you can control the shape of the product.

With your own hands, you can sew a model even with eight wedges. First, they are swept in fours, and then you need to cut off the corners on the allowances in the upper part - up to 5 mm. So they will be better laid out after ironing (the wedges are assembled together). The procedure is performed using a block for smoothing the sleeves. If everything is done correctly, there will be no unaesthetic thickening at the top.

best-wallpaper.net

Next, the liner in the visor for rigidity is modeled. It can be cut from a dense base (cardboard, plastic) or bought ready-made in a specialized store. The next and most technologically time-consuming stage is the connection of the band with the visor.

Progress

  1. The band on the outside is supplemented with adhesive material (like other parts of the product) - the inner one is adjacent to the head, and the operation is not required.
  2. The center of the band and the visor are marked and the marks are combined.
  3. The elements are sewn on the machine - in the eversible areas, you need to cut off the corners on the allowances in advance.
  4. The second part of the band is attached along a circular line.
  5. The outer element of the band is sewn to the top of the product.
  6. The cut parts of the lining are connected (with the same dimensions as the top), leaving an open area of \u200b\u200bup to 10 cm on one of the seams.
  7. The lining and top are sewn together.
  8. In order for the lining to hold better, and the central outer joint to be neatly closed, it is worth sewing a button to it. It is covered with a fabric - to match the product or a contrasting one. Sew on the button, grabbing the lining with thread - tightly and tightly.

Baseball cap production

Baseball caps are easier to sew than six- or eight-piece caps, so beginners can "train" on them. Dense casual fabrics are suitable for manufacturing - hard cotton, denim and similar materials. You can put a decorative stitch on things - in advance, before “collecting” the parts, since the visors in baseball caps are hard and not all cars can work on them. After grinding the elements of the visor, you need to draw an edging to the bottom, turning the part on the face. Connect the sections tightly so that the fit is of high quality.

Progress

  1. Glue the elements from the main fabric with adhesive material for rigidity.
  2. Consistently connect the parts of the product and overcast the sections (if there is no overlock, they are edged with a finishing cloth).
  3. Iron the seams and lay stitches on the front surface for finishing.
  4. Connect the parts of the top and process the sections.
  5. Cut out the bias tape (width 35 mm, cut length) and attach it to the notch on the back of the product.
  6. Connecting the visor and crown as when working with caps is a laborious operation, and it is better to first fasten the elements with pins to be sure.
  7. Trim the bottom edge. You will need a strip of finishing material 7 cm wide (length - cut size plus 3 cm hem) and a non-woven pad, which is glued with an iron to the wrong side.
  8. The last step is sewing in the elastic. Determine the length of the piece by the girth of the head, taking into account the elasticity of the material. Sew the cuts along the back side between the notch and the facing. Bend the ends inward, and fasten the elastic on the front side with a stitch.
