In today's lesson we will learn how to draw a tulip with a pencil. The tulip has a simple shape and is easy to draw. Therefore, for beginners, the lesson will be just right. And we just have to take a pencil with paper and carefully go through all the stages of drawing a flower.
Let's get started!
Step 1. The first stage will be similar to the previous lesson, where we are. To begin with, at the top of a sheet of paper, draw a pair of ovals - tulip buds. From the ovals we draw a line down, while at the bottom the lines converge at one point. Now do not be zealous, do not press hard on the pencil, because then we will have to erase these sketch lines.
Step 2 Now let's draw a draft version of the leaves for tulips. Again, we make the lines thin, without any extra effort on the pencil. Let's move on to the next step.
Step 3 Now we will draw tulip buds. We draw buds in the form of unopened flower petals. Draw stems of flowers under the buds with a pencil.
Step 4 At this stage, we try to beautifully draw the leaves of tulips.
Step 5 We pass to the responsible moment. Now we will carefully draw the main outline of the drawing. We start with buds. We are trying to beautifully draw folded buds of tulip flowers with a pencil.
Step 6 Outline the rest of the main contours of the colors. If at the previous stages the forms were not perfect, then here you can correct everything and, as a result, draw correctly beautiful tulips.
Step 7 We take out the eraser and erase the auxiliary and draft lines of the drawing. We got such a beautiful drawing of tulips.
Let's give a spring mood to the drawing. To do this, use colored pencils or paints to color the flowers. That's how we just learned how to draw tulip flowers correctly.

In order to draw us tulips with a pencil, we need simple pencils and an eraser. I drew with hard (4H), soft (2B) and very soft (6B) pencils. You can link whatever you have or whatever you like. You can draw with one pencil, you just need to adjust the degree of pressure on it. I took an A4 sheet and turned it over (height is now the longest side (29.7cm), width is smaller (21cm)), I got tulips somewhere on 2/3 of this sheet. This is the second part of the tutorial on how to draw tulips with a pencil step by step. In the first part, we drew three tulips step by step, the result is below in the picture.
Step 2. Take a hard pencil and mark the dark areas of the tulips, also on the stems and leaves.
Step 3. We take a medium-soft pencil and go through our marked areas again, while making transitions. How to make transitions from dark to light,
Step 4. Take the softest pencil and make the colors more saturated.
Step 5. Let's move on to drawing the top tulip. draw stems and leaves, as in the picture. My pencil was completely blunt and I sharpened it. And while it is sharp, I circled all the lines and applied strokes where there should be very dark areas. And then my lines at the edges acquired the effect of Gaussian blur (as in Photoshop), now it seems to be normal.
Step 6. We paint over the last tulip and finish the leaves.
Step 7. We take a piece of cotton wool or something soft (cloth, napkin, etc.) and lubricate the body of our tulips, do not rub the edges of the petals, a little leaves, well, if you somehow manage, then the stems. It should turn out something like the picture below.
Step 8. We take an eraser and walk along the edges of the petals of tulips, lighten up the areas near the petals, leaves, stems from above. Where it seems to you that the color is not dark enough, we pass with a pencil in that place and rub it. In general, in order to evaluate the drawing, I take it to my outstretched hand and evaluate it, it’s somehow easier for me, then you don’t always notice obvious sides in the butt.

Simple flowers in the picture can always be turned into complex ones by adding special details to them: small teeth on the tips of the petals, more leaves, make an interesting relief, add colored spots or stripes ...
To draw a tulip with a pencil in stages, it is good to have a living example before your eyes. If there are no flowers nearby, look for suitable photos on the Internet. Take a good look at the plant. Observe and note for yourself how the shape of a flower changes at different stages of flowering, and from different angles.

Arrangement and shape of flowers
The first step is arranging the flowers on a piece of paper. Try to make the flowers look in different directions, do not stand too evenly and correctly, leave enough space on the paper on all sides.
To make the flower as a whole look more beautiful, draw a slightly curved stem. Do not use straight lines as under a ruler.
Our task is to understand how to draw a tulip from different angles and at different stages of flowering.
Enclosing tulips in simple geometric shapes:
- Bud looks like an elongated flattened oval;
- Flower, which began to unfold can be entered into a square with rounded edges;
- More open flower- looks like an inverted trapezoid;
- tulip, which starts to fade- we conclude in a shape similar to a triangle;
- A fully opened flower looking straight at us- enter in a circle.
Draw tulip petals
After everything is marked up, we begin to turn simple geometric shapes into beautiful flowers. We draw petals.
In each of the previously outlined geometric shapes, it stands easily outline an oval, which shows the correct view of how open a certain flower is. Also this oval shows petal height and does not allow us to make a mistake in their placement.
Tulip petals are placed in two rows. Usually, one upper petal overlaps the two lower ones. Most often, the flower consists of 6-7 oval-shaped petals. Sometimes the upper edge of the petal is wavy.
Draw the leaves and stems of tulips
We draw green leaves and add thickness to the stems.
The stems are almost uniform in thickness along their entire length. They are flexible.
Pay attention to where and how the flower and stem are attached. It is especially important to note this in a flower that has turned back.
The green leaves of tulips have a fairly simple shape. Their ends are elongated and pointed. Leaves envelop the stem rather than attached to the side. It is very beautiful and it is important to show it correctly.
Adding details
And now the most interesting thing, let's add shadows, folds, emphasize the shape and bends of the leaves, draw stamens - light touches will help us with this.
In the depths of the flower, under the petals, inside the green leaves, there are shaded and darker areas on the stems. To show shading, sometimes it is enough to add a few strokes with a pencil. Strokes must necessarily fit in the shape that you are trying to emphasize. More deliberately, you can shade the dark rim around the stamens.
Don't overdo it with shading and shadows. Finish work on the drawing when you like everything.

With light movements, without pressure, sketch out the main parts of the tulip. Your goal is to sketch each part of the tulip in proportion to the other parts of the flower.
The purpose of a rough sketch is to simply place the object being depicted on paper without outlining the details. It is necessary to break the drawing into geometric shapes that make up the depicted object. When working with an HB pencil, press very gently.
The photo does not show the leaves of the flower, but what prevents us from drawing them? We make a sketch of two leaves.

Carefully outline the tulip and its leaves using an HB pencil.
Compare often your drawing with a photograph. At this stage, you need to pay attention to the proportions.
Use curved lines to guide the hatch lines.
Using the eraser, erase the lines of the hatching direction so that they are barely visible.

The cultivation of tulips began in Persia in the 10th century. Many new varieties were bred in the vastness of the Ottoman Empire. Tulips were revered as sacred symbols and artists often painted them to decorate mosques. Images of tulips adorned many different surfaces, including fabrics, tiles and utensils, clothes and rooms.

In the new video, I decided to complicate the task - to draw another tulip, but in bright light. Harder in colored pencils often means longer because the degree of detail increases, the set of applied techniques expands.
A very nice photo reference caught my eye, which I decided to use for the drawing:
Using this reference, you can practice the following skills:
- obtaining a blurred background with gentle transitions of tones
- transmitting the glow of light through the petals
- rendering the right hues in the shadow of the overlapping petals
For work, I used Canson drawing paper, Faber-Castel children's pencils and a Derwent polishing pencil (you can use a regular white pencil).
Everything, as usual, begins with a sketch. I did not include it in the video, because. there is nothing complicated or unique here. I removed all the extra lines with a nag, leaving a barely noticeable outline:
I decided to carry out this drawing in the direction from dark to light shades. Using gray shades and burnt umber color, I first painted over all the shadow areas of the flower (this will give us realistic shades of color in the shadows later):
Then I outlined the veins of the petals in red. Here it is important to observe the direction of the veins in the shape of the petals and work with a sharpened pencil.
And finally, the "magic" itself began - over all the dark shades, I walked with an orange-yellow color that made the tulip petals glow from the inside.
On top of each petal, I went over with a polishing pencil to smooth out any bumps and get a smooth texture of the petals. I first painted over the tulip leg with burnt umber and put a couple of dark green shades on top:
The main thing here is not to press hard on the pencil, otherwise you will not be able to achieve smooth color transitions. It is better to build up the tone gradually in layers. With this, our new illustration is ready.
