Major Arcana

0 Fool

From moment to moment, and with every step, the Fool leaves the past behind. He carries in his hand a white rose, which symbolizes his purity, innocence and gullibility. The ornament of his vest contains the colors of all four elements of taro, showing that he is in harmony with the world around him. His intuition reached the pinnacle. At that moment, he finds support in the universe to make a leap into the unknown. Adventures await him on the river of life. The card shows that if you trust your intuition right now, feel "the right thing to do", you cannot be mistaken. Your actions may seem stupid to others or even to yourself if you try to analyze them from a rational point of view. But the "zero place" occupied by the Fool is a place without a number, where the adviser is not skepticism and past experience, but trust and innocence.

A fool is one who always trusts; a fool is one who continues to trust in spite of his experience. You deceive him, and he trusts you; you deceive him again, and he again trusts you; you deceive him again, and he trusts you again. Then you will say that he is a fool, that he does not study. His trust is amazing, his trust is so pure that no one can destroy it. Be a fool in the sense of Tao, in the sense of Zen. Don't try to create a wall of knowledge around you. Whatever experience comes to you, let it happen, and then go on dropping it. Keep constantly clearing your mind, keep dying to the past so that you remain in the present, here-now, as if you were just born, as if you were a baby. At the beginning it is very difficult. People will start to deceive you... let them. They are unhappy. Even if you are fooled, deceived and robbed, let it happen, because no one can steal from you what is really yours, no one can take away from you what is really yours. And every time you don't let the situation take over, that opportunity becomes an internal integration. Your soul will become more crystallized.

I Existence

This naked woman sits on a lotus leaf of perfection, peering into the beauty of the night sky. She knows that "home" is not a physical place in the outer world, but an inner quality of relaxation and acceptance. Stars, mountains, trees, flowers, fish and birds - they are all our brothers and sisters in this dance of life. We human beings tend to forget this because we look after our own interests and believe that we must fight to get what we need. Ultimately, our sense of separation is only an illusion created by the preconceptions of the mind. Now is the time to take a look at whether you are allowing yourself to receive the amazing gift of feeling at home wherever you are. If so, be sure to take the time to save it so that it deepens and stays with you. If, on the other hand, you feel like the whole world is trying to piss you off, it's time to take a break. Go outside tonight and look at the stars.

You are not random. Existence needs you. Without you, something will be missing from existence and no one can replace it. That's what gives you a sense of dignity - the whole existence needs you. The stars, the sun and the moon, the trees, the birds and the earth, everything in the universe will feel that there is a small empty space that cannot be filled by anyone but you. It gives you great joy - you are part of existence and it takes care of you. When you are pure and clear, you can see great love flowing towards you from everywhere.

The inner voice speaks not with words, but with the wordless language of the heart. He is like an oracle who only speaks the truth. If he had a face, it would look like the face depicted in the center of this card - alert, cautious, and able to receive both light and darkness, symbolized by two hands holding a crystal. The crystal itself represents the clarity that comes from the transgression of all dualities. The inner voice can also be playful as it sinks into emotion and rises again to soar into the sky like two dolphins dancing in the waters of life. He is connected to the cosmos through the crescent-shaped crown, and the earth, represented by the green leaves on the figure's kimono. There are times in our lives when too many voices seem to be pulling us in different directions. Our intense confusion in such situations is a reminder of the search for silence and focus within ourselves. Only then can we hear the truth.

If you have not found the truth within yourself, there is nothing more to look for in the whole of existence. Truth works through you. When you open your eyes, it is the truth that opens its eyes. When you close your eyes, it is the truth that closes its eyes. This is an amazing meditation. If you can just understand the emblem, you don't have to do anything, everything you do has been done with truth. You walk - this is the truth, you sleep - the truth is resting, you speak - the truth the truth speaks, you are silent - the truth is silent. This is one of the simplest methods of meditation. Little by little everything is established according to this simple formula, and then this method is not needed. When you are healed, you drop the meditation, you drop the medicine. Then you live like the truth - a living, radiant, full, blissful song within you. Your whole life becomes a prayer without a single word, or better to say, prayerfulness, grace, beauty that does not belong to worldly fuss, a ray coming from the beyond into the darkness of our world.

III Creativity

From the alchemy of fire and water from below to divine light entering from above, the figure in this card is literally "possessed" by creative power. Indeed, the experience of creativity is the entrance to the mysterious. Methods, experience and knowledge are only tools. The main thing is to lean towards the energy that is the fuel for the birth of everything that exists. This energy has no form and structure, but all forms and structures come from it. It doesn't matter what form your art takes - it could be painting or singing, gardening or cooking. It is important to be open to what wants to be expressed through you. Remember that we do not own our works, they do not belong to us. True creativity arises from union with the divine, the mystical and the unknown. And then it becomes a joy for the creator and a blessing for others.

Creativity is the quality you bring to your work. It's an attitude, an inner approach - how you look at things... Not everyone can be an artist - and it's not necessary. If everyone were an artist, the world would be ugly, it would be hard to live in it. And not everyone can be a dancer, and it is not necessary. But everyone can be a creator. Whatever you do, if you do it joyfully, if you do it with love, if your act of action is not purely economic, then you are creating. If something grows out of you, if it gives you growth, it is spiritual, it is creative, it is divine. As you become more creative, you become more divine. All the religions of the world say that God is the creator. I don't know if he is a creator or not, but I know for sure: the more creative you become, the more divine you are. when your creativity comes to a peak, when your whole life is more creative, you live in God. So he must be the creator, because the people who were creative were closest to him. Love what you do. Be meditative, whatever you do!

IV Rebel

The powerful and domineering person on this card is truly the master of his own destiny. On his shoulder is the emblem of the sun, and the torch he holds in his right hand symbolizes the light of his hard-won truth. Poor or rich, the rebel is truly an emperor, because he has broken the chain of the overwhelming conditionings and opinions of society. He shaped himself by taking on all the colors of the rainbow. It emerges from the dark and formless roots of its subconscious past and grows wings to fly into the sky. His way of being is rebellious - not because he is fighting against anything or anyone, but because he has discovered his true nature and decided to live in accordance with it. His spirit is like an eagle - the messenger of heaven and earth. The Rebel encourages us to be brave enough to take responsibility for who we are and to live our truth.

People are afraid, very afraid of those who know themselves. They have a certain charisma, aura, attractiveness and power that can rescue young people full of life from traditional imprisonment. An enlightened person cannot be enslaved - it is difficult - he cannot be imprisoned... An outstanding person who has known something internal is difficult to absorb; he is a force that destroys the existing order. The masses do not want to be disturbed, even if they live in misery; they are in misery, but they are used to it. And anyone who is not unhappy looks like a stranger. An enlightened person is the greatest stranger in the world, he seems to belong to no one. No organization limits it - neither the society nor the people.

V Nothing

Being in-between can be disorienting and even frightening. There is nothing to hold on to, no sense of direction, no hint of what lies ahead. But it is a state of pure potential that existed before the creation of the universe. All you can do now is relax into this nothingness... fall into this silence between words... Watch this gap between the incoming and outgoing breath. And appreciate every empty moment of experience. Now something sacred is being born.

The Buddha chose one of the really most accurate words - shunyata. The English equivalent of "nothingness", nothing, is not so fine. That's why I would like to make it "no-thingness", because nothing is not just nothing, it's everything. It is the vibration of all possibilities. This is potential, absolute potential. It is not yet manifested, but contains everything. Nature is at the beginning, nature is at the end, so why are you making such a fuss in the middle? Why in the middle you become so restless, anxious, ambitious - why create such despair? Nothing at the beginning, nothing at the end - that's the whole journey.

VI Lovers

What we call love is actually a whole range of relationships that connect heaven and earth. At its most mundane level, love is sexual attraction. Many stop there because conditioning has burdened our sexuality with all sorts of expectations and repressions. Indeed, the most important "problem" with sexual love is that it always passes. Only if we accept this fact can we then celebrate it for what it is - welcome it when it happens and say goodbye with gratitude when it's gone. Then, as we mature, we can begin to experience love that goes beyond sexuality and respects the unique individuality of the other person. We begin to understand that our partner often acts as a mirror, reflecting the invisible aspects of our deepest self and helping us become more whole. This love is based on freedom, not on expectation or need. Her wings take us higher and higher to the universal love that experiences all as one.

Three things have to be remembered: the lowest love is sex, it is physical, and the purest love is compassion. Sex is below love, compassion is above love. Love is right in the middle. Very few people know what love is. Ninety-nine percent of people unfortunately think that sexuality is love, but it is not. Sexuality is very animal, it certainly has the ability to grow into love, but this is not real love, but only a possibility. If you become aware and become alert and meditative, then sex can be turned into love. And if your meditativeness becomes complete, absolute, love can turn into compassion. Sex is a grain, love is a flower, compassion is a fragrance. The Buddha defined compassion as "love plus meditation." When your love is not just a desire for another, when your love is not just a need, when your love is participation, when your love is not a beggar, but an emperor, when she does not ask for anything in return, but is ready only to give - to give for the pure joy of giving - then add meditation to it and you get a pure fragrance. This is compassion; compassion is the highest thing.

VII Mindfulness

The veil of illusion or maya that has prevented you from seeing the world as it is is beginning to burn away. This fire is not the hot fire of passion, but the cold flame of awareness. As soon as it burns the veil, the face of the Buddha is revealed - very fragile, like a child. The awareness that is growing in you now is not the result of any conscious "doing," not a tool to make something happen. Your feeling that you were wandering in the dark is now fading, or will soon vanish. Allow yourself to be established in this and remember that deep down you are only a witness, eternally silent, aware and unchanging. And now a channel is opened from the periphery of activity to this center of witnessing. This will help you become detached, and a new awareness will lift the veil from your eyes.

Mind cannot be intelligent, only no-mind is intelligent. Only the no-mind is original and decisive. Only no-mind is revolutionary - revolution in action. This mind brings us into a kind of stupor. Burdened with the memory of the past, weighed down with plans for the future, you continue to live at the bare minimum. You are not living to the maximum. Your flame remains dim. When you start throwing away the thoughts, the dust that you collected in the past, a flame arises - pure, alive, clear, youthful. Your whole life becomes a flame, and it is a flame without smoke. This is awareness.

VIII Courage

This card depicts a small wild flower that has met the challenge of rocks and stones on its way to the light of day. Surrounded by a halo of bright golden light, he reveals the majesty of his tiny being. Shameless, he is like the brightest sun. When we are faced with a very difficult situation, we have a choice: we can either get offended and try to find someone or something to blame for our difficulties, or we can meet the challenge and grow. The flower shows us how the passion for life brings it out of darkness into light. You don't have to fight life's challenges or try to avoid or deny them. They are there, and we have to go through them like a seed that has to become a flower. Be brave to grow into the flower you need to be.

The seed cannot know what is going to happen, the seed has never known the flower. And the seed may not even believe that it has the ability to turn into a beautiful flower. The path is long and it is always safer not to go on it, because the path is unknown, nothing is guaranteed. Nothing can be guaranteed. A thousand and one dangers, traps of the path - and the grain is safe, hidden under a solid core. But the seed tries, it makes an effort, it throws off the shell that gives it security, it starts to move. And immediately the struggle begins: the struggle with soil, stones, rocks. The grain was hard, but the shoot will be very soft and many dangers await. Nothing threatened the grain, it could be stored for thousands of years, but much is dangerous for escape. Escape strives towards the unknown, towards the sun, towards the source of light, not knowing where and not knowing why. The great is the cross to be carried, but the seed has been embraced by a dream, and it is moving. Such is the way of man. It's difficult. It takes a lot of courage.

IX Loneliness

When there is no "someone important" in our lives, we can either feel lonely or enjoy the freedom that solitude provides. When we do not find support from others in truths we deeply feel, we may either feel bitter and isolated or glad that our vision is strong enough to overcome the basic human need for the approval of family, colleagues, and friends. If you are now faced with such a situation, realize how you will look at your loneliness and accept responsibility for the choice you have made. The modest figure in this card radiates light from within. One of the most significant contributions of Gautama Buddha to the spiritual life of mankind was his insistence on disciples: "Be a light to yourselves." In the end, each of us must develop the ability to make our way through the darkness without any companions and guides.

When you are alone, you are not alone, you are simply alone, and there is a huge difference between loneliness and solitude. When you are alone, you think of someone else, you miss someone. Loneliness is a negative state. You feel that it would be better if someone else was around - your friend, your wife, your mother, your lover, your husband. It would be nice. if someone else was there, but he is not. Loneliness is the absence of the other. Solitude is the presence of oneself. Solitude is very positive. It is a presence, an overflowing presence. You are so full of presence that you can fill the whole world with it and you will not need anyone.

X Change

This card depicts a huge wheel representing time, fate, karma. The galaxies revolve around this constantly moving circle, and the twelve signs of the zodiac appear on this circle. Inside this circle are eight trigrams of the I-Ching, and even closer to the center - four directions, each of which is illuminated by the energy of lightning. At this point, the luminous triangle points upward towards the divine, and the Chinese symbol for yin and yang, male and female, creative and receptive, lies in the center. It is often said that the only constant thing in the world is change itself. Life is constantly changing, evolving, dying and being reborn. All opposites play a role in this limitless circular rotation. If you cling to the edge of the wheel, you may feel dizzy! Move towards the center of the cyclone and relax knowing that this too will pass.

Life repeats itself meaninglessly -- unless you are attentive it will repeat itself like a wheel. That is why Buddhists call it the wheel of life and death - the wheel of time. It moves like a wheel: birth is followed by death, death is followed by birth, love is followed by hate, hate is followed by love, success is followed by failure, failure is success. Just understand it! If you can only watch this for a few days, you will see a circular pattern appear. One day, a beautiful morning, you feel good and happy, but the next day you feel so sad that you start thinking about suicide. One day you were full of life, bliss, thanked God, and now you are complaining and do not see why you should continue to live. And so it goes on and on and you don't see any system. But when you see the system, you can exit it.

XI Breakthrough

The predominance of red in this card shows that its subject is energy, power and strength. Bright light comes from the solar plexus or energy center of a person, and his posture expresses strength and determination. Each of us reaches a point where "I've had enough." At this time, we feel like we should do something, anything, even if it later leads to a mistake, and let go of all the burdens and restrictions that hold us back. If we don't, they threaten to suffocate and cripple our very life energy. If you feel like "I've had enough" right now, allow yourself to take a risk and break the old systems and limitations that have kept your energy from flowing. As you do this, you will be surprised how much vitality and opportunity this breakthrough can bring to your life.

The whole function is to turn the psychosis into a breakthrough. The therapist will only retouch you. This is his function. He will not betray you. You need a metapsychology, a psychology of the buddhas. It is the greatest achievement in life to consciously go through psychosis. This is the greatest risk, because there is no guarantee that the psychosis will turn into a breakthrough. It is possible, but such things are not guaranteed. Your chaos is very old - many, many lifetimes you have been in chaos. It became thick and concentrated. It's almost a universe in itself. So when you enter it with your disability, of course it is dangerous. But without facing this danger, no one would ever become whole, no one would ever become individual and indivisible. Zen, or meditation, is the method that will allow you to pass through the chaos, through the dark night of the soul, balanced, disciplined, alert. The dawn is not so far away, but before you reach it, you need to experience the dark night. And as the dawn approaches, the night becomes darker.

XII A New Vision

The figure on this card is reborn, growing out of its earthly roots and gaining wings to fly into the Infinite. The geometric shapes around the body of the figure show that many dimensions of life are available to him at the same time. The square represents the physical, the manifest, the known. The circle represents the unmanifest, the spirit of pure space. And the triangle symbolizes the triple nature of the universe: the manifested, the unmanifested, and the human being, which contains both. Now you have been given the opportunity to see life in all its dimensions, from depths to heights. They coexist, and when we learn from experience that darkness and difficulties are just as necessary for us as light and lightness, then we get a completely different worldview. By allowing all the colors of life to flow into us, we become more whole.

When you are open to the higher, it immediately flows into you. You are no longer an ordinary person, you have gone beyond. Your insight becomes the insight of the whole existence. Now you are no longer isolated - you have found your roots. Usually everyone moves without roots, not knowing where their hearts continue to receive energy from, not knowing who continues to breathe in them, not knowing the life juice that flows inside them. Your inner being, when it opens, first experiences two directions - height, depth. And then gradually, as soon as this becomes your stable position, you begin to look around and expand in other directions. And once you reach the point where depth and height meet, then you start looking around, at the very circumference of the universe. Then your consciousness begins to turn in all directions, but there was only one road.

XIII Transfiguration

The person in the center of this card is at the top of a flower of boundless emptiness. He holds in his hands the symbols of transformation: a sword that cuts through illusion, a snake that rejuvenates itself by shedding its skin and broken chains of limitations, and Yin-Yang, the symbol of transcended duality. One of his hands rests on his hip, open and receiving. The other goes down and touches the face of the sleeping person, symbolizing the peace that comes in rest. It's time to let yourself go. Let any pain, grief, or difficulty just be by accepting it the way it is. It is very similar to the experience of Gautama Buddha when, after years of searching, he finally gave up, knowing that he could do no more. That very night he became enlightened. Transformation comes like death when the time is right. It takes you from one dimension to another.

A master in Zen is not just a teacher. In all religions there are only teachers. They teach you things you don't know, they ask you to believe because they don't have the means to bring that experience into objective reality. The teacher himself did not know them either - he only believed them, he transfers his faith to someone else. Zen is not a world of faith. It is not for believers, it is for brave souls who can drop all beliefs, unbelief, doubts, logic, mind and just enter into their pure existence without boundaries. But it brings them an amazing transformation. So let me say, unlike those who do philosophy, Zen is about transformation, transformation. This is real alchemy: it turns you from base metal to gold. But this language is to be understood not by reasoning and intellectual mind, but by your loving heart or even by listening, without worrying whether it is true or not. And suddenly the moment will come when you will see something that has eluded you all your life. Suddenly, what Gautama Buddha called "eighty-four thousand doors" opens.

XIV Integration

The image of integration is a mystical unity, a fusion of opposites. This is a time of unification of previously experienced dualities of life. It is not night that opposes day, or darkness suppresses light, but rather, acting together, they form a single whole, endlessly turning into each other and containing the deepest core of the opposite. The eagle and swan personify flight and majesty. The eagle is the embodiment of power and loneliness. The swan is the embodiment of space and purity, gently floating, sinking and emerging again and again from the elements of emotions, completely satisfied and full of perfection and beauty. We are the union of the eagle and the swan: male and female, fire and water, life and death. The Integration card is a symbol of self-creation, new life and mystical union, otherwise known as alchemy.

The conflict takes place within the person. As long as it is not allowed there, it cannot be allowed anywhere else. Politics is within you, it is between the halves of your mind. There is a very small bridge. If this bridge accidentally breaks due to some physiological defect or something else, the personality becomes split, the personality becomes two - and schizophrenia or split personality sets in. If the bridge is destroyed - and it is very fragile - you become two, you behave like two people. In the morning you are loving and beautiful, in the evening you are angry, you are completely different. You don't remember the morning... How can you remember? The other mind functioned and the personality became two personalities. If this bridge is strengthened so that two minds disappear as two and become one, then there is a union, a purification. This is what George Gurdjieff called the crystallization of being - when two minds become one and there is a meeting of male and female, yin and yang, right and left, logical and illogical, the meeting of Plato and Aristotle.

XV Conditioning

This card refers to an old Zen parable about how a sheep raised a lion cub and he thought he was a sheep until the old lion grabbed him and took him to a pond where he showed him his reflection. Many of us are like this lion - our self-image is formed not from our direct experience, but from the opinions of others. And the "personality" imposed from the outside replaces the individuality that could have grown from within. We have become only a sheep from the flock, we cannot move freely and do not realize our true nature. It's time to look at our own reflection in the pond and make a move to destroy the self-image that others have led us to believe. Dance, run, talk nonsense - do whatever you need to wake up the sleeping lion in you.

Individuality is given by existence, personality is imposed by society. Personality is comfortable in society. Society cannot tolerate individuality, because individuality will not obey like a sheep. Individuality has the quality of a lion, a lion moves alone. The sheep is always in the crowd, hoping that in the crowd she will feel comfortable. In a crowd, a person feels more secure, confident. If someone attacks, the crowd has more chances to escape. But alone? Only lions move alone. Each of us is born a lion, but society programs our minds, raises sheep out of us. It gives you a personality, a cozy personality, pleasant, very comfortable, very obedient. Society wants slaves, not people who have dedicated themselves to freedom. Society needs slaves because the public interest requires obedience.

XVI Lightning

The map depicts a burned, destroyed and carried away tower. A woman and a man jump out of her not because they want to, but because they have no choice. In the background, a transparent figure of a meditating person is visible. It represents the witnessing consciousness. Maybe now you feel unsteady, as if the ground is slipping from under your feet. Your sense of security is put to the test, and you naturally want to grab hold of everything you can. But this inner earthquake is necessary and extremely important - if you allow it to happen, you will come out of the crash stronger and more open to new experiences. After a fire, the earth is fertilized again; after a storm, the air becomes clean. Try to watch the destruction with detachment, as if it happened to someone else. Say "yes" to what is happening and take a step towards it.

Meditation creates this gradually, but the sudden exclamation of the master, when the student asks a question, and the master shouts, or jumps, or hits him, or throws him out the door, or pounces on him ... These methods have never been known. They arose thanks to the creative genius of Ma Tzu. He made many people enlightened. Sometimes it looks funny: he throws a person out of the window of a two-story house just because the person asked him what he should meditate on. And Ma Tzu not only throws him out, he jumps after him, falls on him, sits on his chest and asks: "Do you understand now?" And the poor guy says, "Yes," because if you say "No," he might beat you or do something else. That's enough - his body is crippled, and Ma Zi, sitting on his chest, says: "Understood?". And of course he understood, because it was so unexpected, like a bolt from the blue - he would never have been able to comprehend it.

XVII Silence

The quiet mirror receptivity of a full moon starry night is reflected in a misty lake. The face in the sky is deep in meditation. She is the goddess of the night, who brings depth, peace and understanding. Now is a very precious time. It will be easy for you to rest within yourself, to penetrate the depths of your own silence to the point where it meets the silence of the universe. There is nothing to be done here, nowhere to go, and the quality of your inner silence pervades everything you do. This can make some feel uncomfortable as they are used to the noise and activities of the world. Forget about them, look for those who can resonate with your silence, or enjoy your loneliness. It's time to come to your senses. The understanding and insight that will come to you in these moments will come later, when it is time to turn outward.

The energy of the whole has taken possession of you. You are captured, you are no more, there is a whole. The moment silence enters you, you can understand its significance, because it is the same silence that Gauttama Buddha experienced. This is the same silence that Chuang Tzu or Bodhidharma or Nansen experienced. The taste of silence is the same. Times change, the world goes on changing, but the experience of silence, its joy, remains the same. It's the only thing you can rely on, the only thing that never dies. This is the only thing you can call real life.

XVIII Past Lives

The arms of existence are folded in the form of female genitalia, the womb of the cosmic mother. Inside, many images are revealed, faces from other times. It can be fun to fantasize about past lives, but that's just entertainment. The main thing is to understand the karmic system of our lives and see that they are rooted in an endlessly repeating cycle that drags us into unconscious behavior. The two rainbow lizards on the left and right represent knowledge and ignorance. They stand guard over the unconscious, confirming that we are ready for a vision that might otherwise shatter. A glimpse of the eternal in our existence is a gift, and understanding of the role of karma in our lives cannot be achieved by an effort of will. This is a waking bell; events in our lives try to show you a pattern as old as your own soul's journey.

A child can become conscious if in his past life he meditated enough, created enough meditative energy to fight the darkness that death brings. He is simply lost in oblivion, and then suddenly he finds a new womb and completely forgets about the old body. It's a lack of consistency. This darkness, this unconsciousness creates a lack of consistency. The East has worked hard to penetrate these barriers, and ten thousand years of work has not been in vain. Everyone can enter a past life or multiple past lives. But for that you will have to go deeper into meditation for two reasons: firstly, until you go deeper you cannot find the door to another life, secondly you will have to go deeper into meditation, because if you find the door to another life, a flood of events will flood into your mind. It is very difficult to live even one life.

XIX Innocence

The old man depicted on this card radiates joy into the world, like a child's. He is surrounded by a sense of well-being. He feels at home with himself and with what life has brought him. He seems to playfully interact with the praying mantis that sits on his finger as if they were best friends. The cascade of pink flowers surrounding it represents a time of release, relaxation and freshness. They are a response to his presence, a reflection of his own qualities. The innocence that comes from the deep experience of life is like a child's, but it is not a child's. The innocence of children is beautiful, but ignorant. It will be replaced by distrust, doubt as the child grows up and learns that the world can be dangerous and frightening. But the innocence of a fully lived life has the quality of wisdom and acceptance of the ever-changing wonder of life.

Zen says that if you drop knowledge and everything that is contained in this knowledge - your name, identity, everything that has been given to you by others - if you drop everything that has been given to you by others, your being will have a completely different quality - innocence . It will be the crucifixion of the personality and the resurrection of your innocence, you will again become a child, reborn.

XX Beyond Illusion

The butterfly depicted on this card represents the outside world, which is constantly moving, not real, but illusory. Behind the butterfly is the face of awareness, turned inward to that which is eternal. In the region of the third eye, the lotus of spiritual opening and the rising sun of awareness blooms. Through the rising of the inner sun, meditation is born. The card reminds us that we need to look for the real not outside, but inside. When we are focused on the outside, we too often get carried away with judgments - this is good, this is bad, I want this, I do not want that. Through these judgments, you are at the mercy of your illusions, your dream, old habits and patterns. Drop your self-confident mind and move inward. There you can relax into your deepest truth, where the difference between dreams and reality is already known.

The only difference between dream and reality is that reality allows us to doubt, but dreams do not. In my opinion, the ability to doubt is one of the greatest blessings of mankind. Religions were enemies because they cut the very roots of doubt. But they did it because they want people to believe in certain illusions that were being taught to them... Why did people like Gautam Buddha insist so much that all of being, apart from your witnessing, apart from your awareness, is only transitory, made of the same material as all dreams? They don't say these trees don't exist. They don't say these pillars don't exist. Don't be fooled by the word "illusion". It has been translated as illusion, but illusion is an inaccurate word. The illusion doesn't exist. There is reality. Maya is in the middle - it is almost non-existent. As far as everyday activities are concerned, it can be accepted as a reality. Only in the highest sense, from the height of your inspiration, does it become unreal, illusory.

XXI Completeness

The last piece of the picture-puzzle takes the place of the third eye, the place of inner perception, even in the ever-changing stream of life there are moments when we come to the point of completion. At these moments, we are able to perceive the whole picture, consisting of the pieces that have occupied our attention for so long. In the end, we can either despair because we don't want the situation to end, or we can be grateful and accepting that life is full of endings and new beginnings. Everything that consumed your time and energy is now coming to an end. By completing this, you will clear the space for something new to start. Use this pause to celebrate the end of the old and the coming of the new.

This is the way of Zen: don't finish things. This must be understood; this is a very important method. Saying nothing means allowing the listener to complete. All answers are incomplete. The master only gives you direction. When you reach the limit, you will know what is left. Thus, if one tries to understand Zen intellectually, he will fail. This is not an answer to the question, but something more than an answer. It shows the very reality... Buddha nature is not something far away - your very consciousness is buddha nature. Your consciousness can testify to the things that make up the world. The world will end, but there will be a mirror reflecting nothingness.
The great tragedy of science is the destruction of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact ... (c)

Master

Masters don't teach truth - it can't be taught. It is a transmission beyond scriptures, beyond words. This is transmission. It is the energy that causes the energy in you. It's kind of synchronous...

You have to approach the master with great love, with great trust, with an open heart. You don't realize who you are. He is aware of who he is, and he is aware of who you are. It can be said that the caterpillar does not realize that it can become a butterfly. You are caterpillars, bodhisattvas. All caterpillars are bodhisattvas, and all bodhisattvas are caterpillars. A bodhisattva is one who can become a butterfly, who can become a buddha, who is a buddha in the seed, in his essence...

The master-disciple relationship is the relationship between the butterfly and the caterpillar, the friendship between the butterfly and the caterpillar. A butterfly cannot prove that a caterpillar can become a butterfly, it cannot be proved by logic. But the butterfly can cause aspiration in the caterpillar - it is possible.

The Hierophant personifies the world of faith and the deepest trust based on the steadfastness of the chosen values. In ancient times, he was considered one of the three guardian angels in the Tarot, who ensured a favorable outcome for any business. This has a deep meaning, because trust in general and our trust in ourselves in particular serve as the basis of faith in life, in the future. In addition, this card symbolizes the path of ethics and virtue, that is, those moral principles that determine our life plans.

Work

This card means that we are concerned about the meaning of all our activities as a whole, from the very subject of our studies to the issues of life support, success, reward and recognition. The hierophant is a search for a deep meaning, a "super task", a true vocation. Along with this, the card can also denote specific situations in which our moral character, our morality, is subjected to all sorts of tests, which until now have not allowed us to participate in any dark machinations.

Consciousness

The search for the meaning of life, the "strength test" of our spiritual principles and our value system. At the same time, the objective side of life in this case is of almost no interest to us. On the contrary, the Hierophant embodies our purely subjective experience, our own creed, which cannot be verified "objectively" in any way, and meanwhile it does not in the least lose its value for us. In addition, this card symbolizes a significant increase in our ability to moral judgment, the very one that allows us to distinguish good from evil, as well as any deep experiences, including religious ones, that have a great influence on all subsequent life.

Personal relationships and love

A period of ever-increasing growth of trust and attraction of partners to each other, when the ideal of a partner becomes more and more elevated, and the partnership itself changes for the better under the influence of a system of moral values and personal virtues of each. At the event level, this card can mean the intention or desire to get married (marry).

inner meaning

This card represents a person who has the power to advance or crush you. You must decide whether further progress is worth admiring this person. Perhaps you seek to decide vital issues for others in order to strengthen your own power over people. You risk exchanging real authority for faith in your own infallibility.

Whatever your supreme deity is, it's obvious that they don't come down from heaven often enough to speak to their people. In most religions, there are individuals whose duty it is to communicate the divine will to the believers. The more organized the religion, the higher the authority of its Priest.

The Priest (Hierophant) of the Tarot can also symbolize any organized philosophical or educational organization, religious or secular, that has a similar power over the minds of its followers. In all such organized philosophies, there is a person or a group of people who claim that only they know the truth, and you will either obey their word or be damned.

Here you must make a decision. It is at this stage of your spiritual development that you are given the opportunity to know the final sacrament - to know the Will of God in relation to you. And again the Priest (Hierophant) - Guardian of the gate; to pass them, you need to become one. Will you decide for yourself what your path to salvation is, or will you let another authority—even the authority of the Tarot—think for you? What you decide now will affect all remaining spiritual development.

Note that the Priest (Hierophant) of the Tarot is not always a favorable card. Unlike the Nun (Priestess, Popess) who uses her wisdom and understanding to enable others to find the true path, the Priest (Hierophant) uses her power to increase her own influence over others. This card gives you the choice to explore the needs of your own soul or adjust your self to the demands of others.

Description of the lasso

Being in-between can be disorienting and even frightening. There is nothing to hold on to, no sense of direction, no hint of what lies ahead. But it is a state of pure potential that existed before the creation of the universe.

Direct position

All you can do now is relax into this nothingness... fall into this silence between words... Watch this gap between the incoming and outgoing breath. And appreciate every empty moment of experience. Now something sacred is being born.

The meaning of the card

(Osho)

An elderly man with a thick beard and mustache in a ceremonial miter on his head clutches a triple cross in his right hand, symbolizing the creative power received from the divine, intellectual and physical world. Behind him are two columns, symbolizing, on the one hand, the law, and on the other, the right to obey or not obey, which is the essence of being a person who decides for himself whether he will live within the law or outside them. This is a theme of duality, giving a person the opportunity to choose mercy or severity and obedience freely or through coercion. The crown represents the material, creative and creative worlds, duplicating the symbolism of his wand. The High Priest is everything orthodox and traditional, to the point of uselessness. Legacy and past symbols are often more important than practicality and the need for change in the present.

Value for divination

Rituals. Ceremonies. Mercy. Modest deeds. Kindness. Generosity. The ability to forgive. Inspiration. Union. Compassion. Enslavement. Inaction. Lack of faith. Timidity. Open coldness. At times, this person is not able to adapt to new circumstances and changing conditions. The tendency to adhere to old views and principles, even if they are outdated. A person with a deep sense of historical significance, sincerely appreciating the heritage of the past.

Reversed value

Too much kindness. Unreasonable displays of generosity. Sensitivity. Impotence. Vulnerability. moral instability. Flexibility. Renunciation. Unusual.

High Priest, also Priest or High Priest, Pope or Hierophant (Greek "high priest"). In the Egyptian Tarot - the Lord of the Arcana.
A man dressed as a priest sits on a throne. His gaze is soft and kind. His power is not the power of brute force, but the power of faith: his kingdom is not of this world. Unlike the Master, he requires submission not to himself, but to another, higher power. His hands are outstretched in a blessing gesture: he reunites opposites and personifies the sacrament of marriage. The images of red roses and white lilies remind us of the Magician's map, where they were living flowers: if the Magician operates with things, intuitively feeling their course, then the High Priest operates with the symbols of things, penetrating into their cause and exploring possible options for their development.

Meaning of the card:
First of all, find yourself on it. Often on this card, in addition to the High Priest, two kneeling apprentice monks are depicted. If you feel like one of these monks, it means that you are looking for a teacher who would show you the path to the truth, and is ready to accept his help. If you perceive yourself as the central figure, then you yourself are able to teach others what you have learned yourself, to help them. But still ask yourself: was it not vanity that brought you to the throne, is your knowledge really great?
In practical spreads, the High Priest refers mainly to two things: the process of teaching, learning, and marriage. He gives a positive answer to the question of the possibility or need to study or teach (“Will the son go to college? - Yes, he will”, - “Should I speak at the conference?” - “Yes, I must”), and also portends marriage , official or mystical. A mystical marriage is understood as a union of a person not only with another person, but also a person with some higher power - with God, as was the case with Moses (“the old union”, i.e. the Old Testament) and Jesus (the New Testament), or with this or that art, when a person devotes himself, for example, to music, poetry or astrology, it is not for nothing that the Greeks had a special muse in charge of the latter.

Inverted:
It means that now there is no opportunity to learn from a person, that marriage will not take place, including a mystical one (the teacher will turn out to be a false teacher, the teaching will be a false teaching, or simply the person himself is not ready); or at this time a person will not be able to devote himself to art.

For businessmen:
No advice. If the High Priest was pulled out by a businessman, then the question arises: why did he get involved in this business at all?

The Hierophant strengthens your morals, your confidence in life and faith in yourself.

This card symbolizes the search for the meaning of life through religion, philosophy and the development of spirituality.

spiritual goals. Self-knowledge. Inner wisdom.

The Hierophant, or the Pope as he is sometimes called, is often depicted in papal garb standing between two pillars, symbolizing his ability to reconcile opposing forces. If the Emperor personifies the earthly masculine principle, then the Hierophant is the embodiment of his spiritual essence.

The Hierophant is associated with the number "5", denoting spiritual strength, inner wisdom and creative inspiration, as well as the ability to synthesize information. He offers us guidance in the spiritual realm and points out the need to find spiritual meaning in our lives.

Symbolism

The Hierophant acts as a spiritual leader within each of us, who connects our earthly personality with its higher spiritual essence. In this way, it helps us establish a dialogue between our conscious mind and its spiritual origins. In ancient times, the priest was called the pontifex, which means "building bridges." His role was to establish links between people and deities. The Hierophant reflects our inner desire to comprehend the meaning of all things and phenomena and raise our consciousness to a level where we will not feel the split of the conscious and the unconscious within ourselves. The longing to rise to the highest realms of spiritual life is the essence of what Carl Jung called the "religious function." He described this intuitive feeling, in which there is much more authentic life than in our simple earthly existence. The Hierophant personifies the driving force of our spiritual beliefs and philosophical values that each of us forms in ourselves. Sooner or later they will be tested by life for strength, and then it will become clear whether they can continue to serve as a support for us. Ultimately, the Hierophant symbolizes our inner desire to achieve harmony between the earthly and spiritual sides of our lives so that we can become truly whole people.

Interpretation

The fall of this card means that you are ready for a different perception of life. It's time to pay attention to spiritual values and realize the true meaning and purpose of your life, determining your place in the general scheme of the universe. You can connect with a spiritual mentor - a priest or a psychotherapist who can offer you guidance and speed up the process of your initiation. On the other hand, you can take a special course in religious or philosophical training to gain a deeper knowledge of yourself. This will serve as the beginning of your spiritual development, which will ensure you further progress in this area and at the same time bring peace to your soul.

O blind soul! Arm yourself with the torch of mysteries! and in the earthly night you will open your shining Double,
your Heavenly Soul.
Follow this Divine Guide
and may He be your Genius!
For He holds the key to your existences, past and future.

Book of the Dead

Description of the card and its inner meaning
At an hour when the soul is heavy, when the heart shrinks from sadness and sadness, in moments of grief and inner devastation, I want to hide from everyone, run away from everyday worries, hide from the annoying care of close and hypocritical words of false friends. At such moments, it is better to be alone with yourself or with nature, or maybe talk with a complete stranger. The High Priest, a wise adviser and teacher, can act as such a listener, and you go in search of him.

You find yourself in a big city, where you encounter people who, like you, have come to hear advice and, perhaps, get help. And so, carried away by the crowd of people, you find yourself in the central square and find yourself in front of the temple. There, on a dais, stands a beautiful throne, on which sits the one you have been looking for for so long.

He looks no more than 25 years old, and you are slightly disappointed with the youth of the Priest. But soon you will see that this does not prevent him from being wise.

The Priest, leaning forward, blesses the Two standing in front of him with bowed heads obediently. These are two lucky ones who managed, ahead of everyone else, to appear before the Pope. They wait with trepidation for the holy hand to overshadow them with the cross.

The High Priest is the religious authority, no matter what faith he represents. Another thing is clear: this is a person who has the Power given by believers. He decides what exactly people should do for their salvation. Unlike the mission of the Priestess, who passively conducts the will of God, the role of the Priest is to actively implement the Higher Will in this world. He is the creator of a new way of life.

The fifth Arcana is the doctrine of the emergence of a human being, pouring out in the world of the Spirit - into a spiritual individual, and in the world of Being - into the appearance of a person and his capabilities. As you know, each of us is similar to God, therefore, according to the Law of Equilibrium, the doctrine of personality is a modified doctrine of Him. The High Priest card is an analogue of the Second Arcana. But if the High Priestess affirms the Absolute Wisdom, which lies beyond the limits of any individuality, then the Priest speaks of truth, wisdom and knowledge, relative in general, but absolute for the individual. Roughly speaking, here we are talking about infinity in the light of the existence of one particular person. Given all of the above and the concepts of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm, we can conclude what the fifth Arcana is all the same. This is the doctrine of Consciousness in two aspects: Divine - macrocosmic and individual - microcosmic.

Note that High Priest is not always a favorable card. Unlike the second Arcana, where the High Priestess, using all her wisdom, gently helps others find their way, the High Priest uses power to increase his own influence on others.

Relationship of the card with other occult sciences
The card High Priest, according to the mystical teachings of Kabbalah, corresponds with the letter ge of the Hebrew alphabet. Its translation below accurately describes the inner meaning of the fifth Arcanum. The connection with the rest of the magical sciences will look like this:

(ge) - Only he can be adored, since he is the only master,
Letter - D, number - 5,
Ruled by the zodiac sign Taurus
Correspondence according to the Book of Changes - 18 hexagram ("Correction"),
Compliance with runes - rune Othila (Otila),
Time of day - evening
Weather conditions - unexpected changes in the weather,
The corresponding color is turquoise,
The corresponding chakra is the thymus chakra,
According to Kabbalah, it connects the sephirah Chokmah with the sephirah Chesed.

Card meaning
Direct position
The fifth Arcana describes a person who can become (or has already become) a spiritual mentor to the Questioner. You should turn to him for advice, and you can safely count on his help. This is a wise teacher and a reasonable adviser.

If the card does not describe a person, but a situation, then it has the following meanings: generosity, mercy, kindness, the search and finding of truth, a favorable outcome of the case, finding like-minded people, spiritual peace, religious path, courage, creative efforts, the ability to go your own way.

Reversed position
In this position, the card describes a hypocrite, a flatterer and a cunning person who can deceitfully find out information valuable to him from the Questioner, and then use it for his own selfish purposes. This is a traitor, Judas.

When describing the situation, the fifth Arcana warns of extreme conservatism, excessive kindness, abuse of freedom, the desire to agree with others contrary to one's own convictions, and the need for public recognition. In addition, the High Priest card has the following interpretations: spiritual slavery, weakness, loss of authority and individuality.

Look closely at the map. In addition to the main figure, it depicts the Genius of Good (on the right side) and the Genius of Evil (on the left). If you feel like one of these two, then you need a teacher who would show the way to the truth. If you perceive yourself as a universal figure, then you yourself are able to teach others. The advice will sound like this: "You are able to solve your life's questions, you know the right answer, you can even give advice to another person. But you must be sure of the correctness of your actions, because you often make decisions too hastily, and help (in most cases ) only to assert its authority in the eyes of others".

Note: The High Priest card has another important meaning - all the situations it describes take place under a lucky star. Any questions regarding romantic relationships will successfully end in a marriage that will be consecrated in heaven. And all undertakings and plans under the auspices of the fifth Arcana will bring guaranteed success to the Questioner.

Description

The one who appeared before you on this card, as well as the fifth Arcana, has many names: "Heart of Ra", "Ptah's Language", "Silver Aton", "He who knows, who understands, who saves."

Mythological dossier

The god of wisdom Thoth is one of the most interesting gods of Ancient Egypt. In the pantheon, he played the role of a vizier and was depicted behind the Pa-sun. He is the only one who knew how to pacify the gods and whose advice they certainly followed, because he knew their secret names. He acted as the protector of Osiris. It was he who stopped the fight between Seth and Horus. Together with his wife, the goddess of truth, Maat Thoth watched over the order in the entire universe. As an astral deity, he was identified with the moon and was considered the creator of the calendar. Being the "Lord of time", Thoth wrote down the days of birth and death. He was also called the Psychopomp ("leader of the soul"), as he guarded each deceased and led him to the Kingdom of the Dead. He recorded the results of the weighing of the heart at the trial of Osiris. The sacred animals of Thoth were the ibis and the baboon. Therefore, he was always depicted as a man with the head of an ibis, because the ibis always accurately predicted the flood of the Nile and ate the eggs of the hated crocodiles.

In fact, Thoth was associated with the emergence of the entire intellectual life of Egypt. He invented hieroglyphics, created sacred books and "Books of Breath". As already mentioned, he is also credited with the creation of the Tarot. In the religious and mystical literature of the ancient Greeks, he appeared under the name of Trismegistus ("thrice very great") and was identified with Hermes.

Therefore, it is Thoth that personifies the essence of the fifth Arcana. The hierophant is the teacher of the sacred secrets - the highest spiritual authority, the measure of reason and conscience. Thoth is accompanied by his assistants, the sacred animals ibis and baboons, and behind him is his faithful wife, the goddess of truth and order, Maat.

The deep purple color of the card is incredibly complex and ambiguous. As you know, it is obtained from the merger of red (action) and blue (understanding) colors. No wonder in ancient Egypt, purple was the color of warriors. He says that the Hierophant is always ready to fight for his beliefs, fight against ignorance and lack of spirituality.

In addition, purple is the color of the shadow (according to the artists' observations, it is precisely with different shades of purple that the shadow cast by objects can be most accurately conveyed). The shadow is often perceived as a double. In ancient Egypt, there was an idea of Ka - a reflection, the soul of each object. It was in charge of none other than He. On the map, this color confirms that the wise person never boasts of his merits, does not strive for external power and recognition, but tries to remain in the shadows.

Psychologists believe that this color indicates a complex spiritual organization. So the purple background of this Arcana warns: trying to penetrate the secrets of the beyond, you must follow the rules and not break away from reality.

And it is also the deep color of the night sky, which is illuminated by the full moon (Silver Aten). This light dispels the darkness outside and inside of you, shows the way and gives hope.

The fifth Arcana is a symbol of morality, intelligence, wisdom and respect for tradition.

Value in the layout

A hierophant is a philosopher, priest, wise adviser or mentor. A person who shows the authority of a spiritual leader or simply a master of his craft. He is merciful and always calm.

In a straight position

The Hierophant card promises you the patronage of higher powers. It means good advice, sometimes training, the pursuit of knowledge. It is also good intention and social harmony, a good attitude towards religion. It can mean some external force that makes you think about your soul. Depending on other cards, it may portend a marriage bond, strong friendship, a return to family traditions.

In the psychological sphere, it is a symbol of tolerance and condescension, the transfer of one's knowledge to others and the active use of other people's experience and knowledge.

Advice. This card gives you a choice: will you find your own path of spiritual development or let another authority think for you.

In an inverted position

The "Hierophant" is a fanatical dogmatist who stubbornly clings to his delusions.

The card says that spiritual protection is currently absent. The questioner can only rely on his own strength. Means dubious advice and false information. False direction and false knowledge.

In the psychological sphere, it can mean gullibility, unnecessary kindness to unworthy people, lack of insight. Or, on the contrary, the desire to solve important issues for others in order to strengthen their power over them.

The High Priest in Tara symbolizes religious authority - the authority of the seeker of truth, the interpreter of the mysteries, the one who points the way to salvation or to the spiritual goal you are striving for.

The High Priest (High Priest) (Hierophant, The High Priest) in some decks is depicted as Jupiter (or Zeus), in some - as the Pope. Corresponds to the number five and the Hebrew letter het.

Allegory

divine will; interpretation of the Law of God in terms of a personal or social code of conduct.

Description

A male figure seated on a throne. Dressed in the robe of a clergyman; on his head is a crown, in his left hand he usually holds a scepter. High Priest's Garb changes from deck to deck. His scepter represents the symbol of the faith professed by the compiler of the deck; the crown and robe are also identified as the vestments of a priest of a particular religion. The free hand of the High Priest is raised in blessing. Two (or three) lesser priests stand or sit at his feet, paying respect to him or addressing him with a petition. In some decks on the card, the High Priest has a very young, even somewhat feminine face, in others he is old and has a bushy beard.

In almost all decks, this figure, like the High Priestess (Second Arcana), is located between two columns.

inner meaning

Whatever your supreme deity is, it's obvious that they don't come down from heaven often enough to speak to their people. In most religions, there are individuals whose duty it is to communicate the divine will to the believers. The more "organized" a religion, the higher the authority of its High Priest.

But this figure can also symbolize any organized philosophical or educational organization, religious or secular, that has a similar power over the minds of its followers. In all such organized philosophies, there is a person or a group of people who claim that only they know the truth, and you will either obey their word or be damned.

In the Fifth Arcana, you must make a decision. It is at this stage of your spiritual development that you are given the opportunity to know the final sacrament, to know the Will of God in relation to you. And again the High Priest is the Gatekeeper; to pass them, you need to become one. Do you decide for yourself what your path to salvation is, or let another authority - even the authority of the Tarot! - to think for you? What you decide now will affect all remaining spiritual development.

Note that this is not always a favorable card. Unlike the High Priestess, who uses her wisdom and understanding to enable others to find the true path, the High Priest uses her power to increase her own influence over others. This card gives you the choice to explore the needs of your own soul or adjust your self to the demands of others.

Value in the layout

Direct or positive: charity, generosity, kindness, community (including possible marriage). creative efforts. The search for truth. Understanding and inspiration. Religious inclination. moral courage; the ability to go your own way, if you believe that it is the right one.

Reversed or Negative: extreme conservatism; excessive kindness and conciliation. Enslavement, surrender, weakness. The need for public recognition and approval. The need to agree. Loss of personal authority (or recognition of authority only for curses, if something is wrong).

This card represents a person who has the power to advance or crush you. You must decide whether further progress is worth admiring this person. If this card represents the Questioner, then you strive to solve vital issues for others in order to strengthen your own power over people. You risk exchanging real authority for faith in your own infallibility.

This card has to do with teaching, discipleship, and mentoring. The Hierophant represents all the "shoulds" and "shoulds" of your life that bind a person to traditional values and ideas about the world. The Hierophant awakens our conscience, for it symbolizes the laws established by God, society and government. This is intended to ensure - at least in theory - the observance of prohibitions and obedience to the commandments. In the context of the current situation, you can learn or teach yourself, in both cases, dealing with matters and methods, the effectiveness and significance of which have been tested by time. You can focus on solving certain problems through the practical application of spiritual truths. You may be looking for keys that will open the door for you to a privileged club, a different way of life, or a new stage of spiritual evolution. Perhaps you want to achieve all this with the help of a guru, religion, or attending trendy personal growth seminars, or you can act as a mentor yourself.

As with the High Priestess, you can seek or give advice, but this time it will be based on accepted sources of wisdom. You may have to deal with large organizations or institutions, from the local city hall to the "system as a whole". For some, it may be a government building inspector armed with a compendium of regulations and a plethora of standards compliance guidelines. I use this lasso when grades are made at a level that you can understand. Someone sees the figure depicted on this card as a kind and helpful mentor or psychologist, while others - especially young tarologists of the 1970s - perceive him as a tough dogmatist who knows no doubts, closed to everything new.

The very word "hierophant" means one who reveals the sacred to people, turning it into a form accessible to comprehension. In terms of your personality, this may be the realization of a spiritual gift or some innate quality. You can seek guidance from a church or temple, or take up meditation or other practices. Blessing, prayer, and the forgiveness of sins can have a tremendous healing effect. Or maybe you just believe in a higher power or made a vow that obliges you to follow a certain path.

Traditional meanings: inspiration. Union, accession, union, marriage. Bondage, captivity, enslavement, dependence, coercion. Mercy, kindness, generosity, condescension. Duty, morality, conscience, compliance. Respectability, restraint. Forgiveness. Teaching. Good advice.

Reversed Hierophant

The inverted Hierophant can talk about doubting established values, disobeying the rules, disregarding moral principles or, on the contrary, putting them on display, denying one's religious roots. This is outsiderdom and iconoclasm. Perhaps it is time to question the traditional authorities. You may choose to be guided by your own standards, rather than those imposed on you by those in power. A confrontation with the establishment is possible - on a religious, corporate, government or educational level. You may want to take part in an act of civil disobedience or even open rebellion. Perhaps your conscience is restless. You are tired of endless "shoulds" and "shoulds". Or you are thinking about something that is immoral, unethical, or unscrupulous. On an everyday level, this card may simply indicate inappropriate behavior, petty "sins" or something that you are ashamed of.

On the other hand, this card may be evidence of excessive rigidity or dogmatism. Perhaps you adhere to some outdated ideas or unacceptable principles. You can judge yourself too harshly or let someone else play the Grand Inquisitor, dutifully accepting his criticism and negative assessment. There is a possibility that you are afraid of "excommunication" - in other words, afraid of being rejected by the community. Or the path that you have chosen for yourself suddenly turned out to be too narrow and restrictive.

You or someone else may act overconfident, pompous, or haughty. Perhaps blind enthusiastic adherence to some unproven or unproven doctrines. The reversed Hierophant directly indicates that your thought system is rusty. At the other end of the spectrum for this card is a lack of confidence in yourself and in your faith.

Perhaps you have lost your bearings, are confused about what is good and what is bad, or can not choose between two "good" or two "bad" in any way. If there is other evidence for this, the card may indicate a divorce, a break with tradition, or leaving school.

When projecting the reversed Hierophant onto another person, you perceive him as a living embodiment of the path to truth, or as a being more elevated or purer than other mortals. Or do you think that he sets standards that cannot be followed, hypocritically hiding behind the letter of the law, not the spirit, or that he is just a prude. The Reversed Hierophant can be a compromised teacher or guru, leaving you feeling betrayed by your admirers or the system itself.

In terms of health, these can be diseases of the ear, throat and nose, infections, muscle pain and tension, and stiffness of the joints.

In the realm of shamanic magic, this card represents the shaman as a mediator or bridge builder between the worlds. These are rituals as such, as well as the high priest conducting official formal ceremonies and explaining to the uninitiated the meaning of sacred symbols and mysteries.

Traditional inverted meanings: society, institutions. Excessive kindness, stupid generosity, weakness. Familiarity, unacceptable and inappropriate intimacy. Susceptibility, sensitivity. Impure combinations, combinations. Unconventionality. Preacher, rigid morality, inflexibility. Self-denial.

Astrological meaning:
Sun in Sagittarius: preacher, teacher, religious figure.
PRIEST
The priest personifies the world of faith and the deepest trust, based on the steadfastness of the chosen values.

One of the most popular decks today, after Rider-Waite and Tarot Thoth, is the Osho Zen Tarot. These are very unusual cards, primarily related to the work of the subconscious. The deck does not have the usual structure, and only a few Arcana intersect with the classic meaning. And, nevertheless, the deck won the hearts of many tarologists who were able to find a "common language" with it. Let's talk in more detail about who was involved in the creation of these cards when the deck first saw the light of day, how to work with it correctly.

History of the deck

For the first time these incredible, bewitching cards saw the light back in 1995 - they were released by St Martins Press (USA). The development of his own Tarot system came to the mind of the greatest Indian mystic and philosopher named Chandra Mohan Jain, better known as Osho. However, during the lifetime of the Master, it was not possible to realize it, so one of his students, Susan Morgan, Ma Deva Padva, as she is called in spiritual circles, became the successor of this work. She herself worked on the creation of illustrations of the Osho Arcana Zen Tarot. What happened in the end can be called a real masterpiece. This is not just Tarot, it is a whole philosophical system based on the teachings of the great mystic. The cards are very different from all Tarot decks that exist today. Bright, colorful illustrations draw in, immerse a person in the world of his subconscious, where in fact there are already answers to all questions. Osho Zen cards are ideal not only for solving pressing problems, but also for meditation, self-knowledge.

After the release of the first version of the cards in the United States of America, the deck was reprinted several more times: in 2003 by AGM (Switzerland) and U.S. Games Systems, and in 2010 by the famous Italians Lo Scarabeo. The Russian version was released in 2006 (publishing house IG "Ves"), in 2008 (AST) and in 2012 (Veligor).

Key features of the deck

If working with traditional decks allows you to look into the future, then Osho Zen Tarot cards encourage us to pay attention to what is happening in our soul here and now. Only by realizing the true meaning of the events taking place and working with your own subconscious, you can get deep, philosophical answers to all questions. Osho urged to perceive life as a game and be aware of every action, phenomenon - only with this approach can one comprehend the true meaning of being. That is why the deck can in no way be classified as a classic.

The deck contains not 78, but 79 cards - the Arcana Master is added, on which Osho himself is depicted. We can say that this is a kind of empty map, indicating that the person himself knows the answers to the questions asked. The names of the Arcana are also far from the classics. If, for example, the Priestess is called the Inner Voice, the Lovers are called Lovers, the Hermit is Loneliness, then the fifth Arcanum, called Nothing, and the eleventh, Breakthrough, nevertheless make us understand that there is no need to talk about the traditional structure.

The suits are also named differently: instead of Wands we see Fire, instead of Cups - Water, instead of Swords - Clouds, and instead of Pentacles - Rainbow. The suits themselves are not written on the cards - the Minor Arcana can be distinguished from each other only by the color of the rhombic crystal located in the center of the lower part. For Fire, these rhombuses are red, for Water they are blue, for Clouds they are gray, and for the Rainbow they are iridescent, respectively. All Minor Arcana and figure cards of Osho Zen Tarot are drawn.

Symbolism of the deck

Unlike other decks filled with many different esoteric symbols, Indian mystic cards seem to be much simpler. You will not find any Kabbalistic, astrological and numerological references, hidden clues and confusing details on them. The meaning and interpretation of the Osho Zen Tarot cards is revealed solely through the illustration itself and your personal perception of it. The images are so deep and interesting that the subconscious mind begins to work actively even with a cursory glance at the Arcana. All this makes working with the deck simple and intuitive. Absolutely nothing superfluous and distracting - just look at the picture and listen to your inner voice!

Major Arcana

As I mentioned earlier, there are not 22, but 23 Major Arcana in the deck, however, many perceive a card called the Master simply as an additional one - as an analogue or white / black card. The meanings of the cards of the Osho Zen Tarot deck, in particular the Major Arcana, do not repeat the traditional ones, although some of them remain quite recognizable. Let's see what the Trumps of the great Indian mystic's deck are called.

The almost classic Fool opens the deck, and already starting from the first Arcana we see obvious changes. Instead of the Magician - Existence, instead of the High Priestess - the Inner Voice. The meaning of the Osho Zen Tarot Creativity card (3 Arcana) is somewhat reminiscent of the Empress - most likely the idea of \u200b\u200bthe birth of something new, however, the words of the Master himself in the deck guide book will make you take a different look at the creative process and its essence.

Now let's see the sequence of the following Arcana: Rebel (Emperor), Nothing (Hierophant), Lovers (Lovers), Awareness (Chariot), Courage (Strength). The Loneliness Osho Zen Tarot card resembles the traditional Hermit, but its meaning is much deeper - here, it seems to me, it is worth inserting a quote from the Master: “There are several things that are possible only in solitude. Love, prayer, life, death, aesthetic experience, blissful moments - it all happens when you are alone. Wonderful words, aren't they?

We continue through the Major Arcana: Loneliness is followed by Change (Wheel of Fortune), Breakthrough (Justice), New Vision (The Hanged Man), Transfiguration (Death), Integration (Temperance), Conditioning (Devil), Lightning (Tower), Silence or Silence ( Star), Past Lives (Moon), Innocence (Sun), Beyond Illusion (Judgment), Finality (Peace). This is followed by the same twenty-third card of the Master, but it is not numbered.

From the Major Arcana, I personally like Completeness, Silence and Conditionality a lot. Completeness is illustrated by an almost finished puzzle depicting a person - it remains to put in place only one small detail, and the picture will become complete. Awesome metaphor! Looking at the image of Silence, you really immediately want to stop the internal dialogue - this card is so beautiful. The conditioning refers us to the ancient parable about how the lion, while still very small, fell into a herd of sheep. The sheep brought him up in their own image, but one day he met a real lion, and he showed him his reflection in the water - at that moment a transformation took place. The card encourages us to turn to our true inner self, which is often hidden under masks and stereotypes imposed on us by others.

As you can see, the meaning of the Osho Zen Tarot cards cannot be compared to classics like Waite. This is a completely different cut of understanding that will open up to you as you work with the deck.

Minor Arcana

As I said above, the Minor Arcana are represented by four non-classical suits: Fire, Water, Clouds and Rainbow. Fire cards are made in orange-red-yellow colors, Water cards are blue-blue, Cloud cards are gray-brown, and Rainbow cards, as you might guess, are represented by all the colors of the rainbow.

Let's take a closer look at a few numerical Arcana from the Osho Zen Tarot Gallery. Let's start with the element of Fire. Fire is associated with energy and action. The Ten of Fire is called Suppression. In her image, we see a human figure that is oppressed from all sides: ropes, a heavy load pressing from above, blackness shrinking from all sides. Not much fun, is it? Arkan encourages us to think about suppressed emotions that pollute our soul, make it "heavy".

Another "fiery" example is the Five of Fire - Wholeness or Totality. It reminds us that a person is free to do whatever he wants, but at the same time you need to give yourself to what you are doing, completely and completely, otherwise the action does not make any sense.

Now let's move on to the Water Arcana. The suit of Water is associated with feelings, emotions, with what a person has in his heart. I personally really like the image of the Water Five - Clinging to the past. The meaning of the Osho Zen Tarot card Clinging to the Past lies in the fact that you need to be able to leave the past in the past: what has already happened, we cannot change, and while we are stuck in the already “dead” heart, the present passes by.

Let's look at the Ten of Water. The meaning of the Osho Zen Tarot Harmony card can be expressed by a quote from the Master himself: “You are right in the middle between death and life - you are neither. So don't cling to life and don't be afraid of death." The key point of the Arcana is that you do not need to choose one thing - just stay in harmony with one and the other.

Each numerical card of Water literally “sings” about our emotions and feelings. The quintessence of the suit is, perhaps, the Ace. The meaning of the Movement with the Flow card in Osho Zen Tarot is the complete trust in our life, the emotions that we experience, this is the need to swim along the river of earthly existence without struggle and resistance.

The suit of Clouds is associated with thoughts, mind, knowledge. Take a look, for example, at the Arcana of Wine (8 Clouds) and Comparison (5 Clouds) - and you will see that these two feelings actually live inside our mind. These are not feelings, these are the creations of our mind!

The rainbow is the suit of reality in all its manifestations. It shows us some ordinary earthly things and phenomena that are not connected with internal energy, manifestations of the soul or mind. See how clearly and clearly the meaning of the card is traced in the illustrations of the Arcana Ripeness (9 Rainbows), Patience (7 Rainbows), From Moment to Moment (2 Rainbows).

In a word, all the Minor Arcana of Osho Zen Tarot are intuitive - and at the same time, very deep. Each of them can be viewed for hours, as if immersed in the map itself.

court cards

Court cards also reflect the key qualities and manifestations of their suits. For Fire, these are Creator (King), Playfulness (Page), Generosity (Queen) and Intensity (Knight).

For Water - Healing (King), Understanding (Page), Susceptibility (Queen), Trust (Knight).

The court cards of the Clouds are Control (King), Wit (Page), Morale (Queen), Fight (Knight).

Someone may not understand the meaning of the Osho Zen Tarot Struggle card - in fact, it is more connected with the internal struggle, the struggle of the mind, reason, and not with the physical confrontation.

Features of the interpretation of cards

You probably noticed that there are actually no cards describing any physical events in the deck - each Arcana relies precisely on internal, spiritual phenomena, from which the tarot reader can already deduce more “earthly” mantic interpretations at will. It is necessary to carry out fortune-telling on Osho Zen Tarot cards in freestyle - that is, relying solely on your intuition. By the way, this is what is mentioned in the accompanying book. If, when working with classic Tarot decks, we can name at least a few keywords that will correspond to the same Arcana from different authors, then with Osho Zen, such a practice is simply impossible. Only your personal feelings should work here.

It is best to start practical work with these cards with the Osho Zen Tarot "Instant" layout. Just pull out a single Arcana - it will most accurately describe the situation in which you are at the moment, or the prevailing energy of the day. Not all layouts, especially multi-card ones, are applicable to this deck. Some tarologists do not advise at all to become attached to certain schemes and offer to pull out as many cards for each question as your intuition tells you, and then read them in random order - in the way that seems right to you right now.

What issues is the deck suitable for?

On the one hand, the deck belongs to the universal ones, but on the other hand, it is important to understand that we cannot consider only the event plan of reality on it, since all the phenomena described by the cards occur at the subconscious level. So, for example, if we want to know if Petya will date Masha, and we get the Isolation and Clinging to the Past Arcana, we can say that now in his thoughts is a desire to be alone and rethink his past experience. Can this be considered a direct answer to the question? I think yes. If we ask what awaits a person in the next month at work, and Exhaustion, Intensity and Burden fall out, we can assume that he will have to work very hard and at an active pace, which will lead to severe fatigue, loss of vitality. In a word, fortune telling on Osho Zen Tarot cards is an activity for thinking people who are ready to analyze, feel, understand, delve into the depth of the illustration.

Who are the cards for?

You can buy Osho Zen Tarot for a tarologist of any level - both a beginner and a professional. In order to work with these wonderful cards, it is not even necessary to have any experience at all. Many choose this deck as their very first deck, and after a few weeks of practice, they are fully mastered with it.

  • For those who want to learn a fundamentally new, non-classical Tarot system
  • For those who do not want to deal with the clutter of various symbols, and are looking for a simple, understandable deck to work with
  • Those who are engaged in spiritual practices and meditation
  • To everyone who prefers to get acquainted with the meaning of cards not from books, but from their own feelings
  • Osho book lovers

If you decide to buy Osho Zen Tarot cards, try to get them at the same time as the accompanying Zen Tarot book, which contains extracts from Osho's texts about each Arcana. This is perhaps the most worthwhile literature on the deck to date.

I also saw Anna Novikova’s book Interpretation of Osho Zen Tarot on sale, and for the sake of interest I found it in electronic form. However, the book seemed to me not a very necessary acquisition. On the one hand, the author tried to bring out rather brief, but informative meanings of each card in different areas of life, but on the other hand, as mentioned earlier, you need to look for your own individual approach to the deck, and not use other people's interpretations. So, for example, Novikova interprets the Lovers card in the professional sphere as inspiration and respect for work duties, superiors, and colleagues. I see a completely different meaning in it - it seems to me that Arkan can talk about the need to gain self-confidence, because we let another person into the intimate area only when we are sure that we are worthy of what we are offered. Although many of the interpretations in the book, in principle, somewhat agree with my personal ones.

In general, I strongly recommend that everyone who is interested in this deck read the complete books of Osho himself at their leisure - then a lot will become clear and you will definitely not need additional literature. On this note, I end my review of Osho Zen Tarot. Thank you for your attention!
