Nike running shoes for men marathon. The best running shoes. Running shoe selection and surface type

7 top running shoes designed specifically to set new records. First of all, the review will be of interest to amateurs with running experience of more than a year and weighing up to 85 kg, striving to show high results.

Road season is in full swing, which means it's time to choose a new pair of fast running shoes that will best serve you your best race. The choice of competition shoes is very important and delicate. Sneakers should be not only light, preferably no more than 300 grams, but also comfortable. Should discreetly provide your feet with comfort and confidence.

Not so long ago, high-speed running shoes were laconic, rigid models with the lowest possible outsole to reduce weight. These sneakers felt weightless on the athletes' feet, but were only suitable for well-trained runners with pumped legs and a strong arch of the foot. In recent years, there has been a trend towards amateurs in the running footwear market. So, competition sneakers began to be developed with higher and softer soles, without gaining weight through the use of new technologies and materials.

The choice of footwear for a marathon race must be carefully and thoroughly. Per distance of 40 kilometers anything could happen.

Marathon shoes should be high quality, breathable, keep the foot tight all the way.

Long distance running shoes

Conventionally, footwear is divided into:

  • marathons;
  • half marathon;
  • intermediate models.

Marathon

This is a kind of running shoe that not in the official classification. The names of the models were given by the athletes themselves for their lightness. Such shoes it is soft and flexible.

Marathon runners have flat sole... But this model is not suitable for everyone. Marathon chosen by athletes whose weight does not exceed 60 kilograms. With more weight on a marathon in such sneakers, you can easily damage your foot, since the load on the legs is very high.

Shoes are different in that every part of the surface is felt in it. This is an advantage for the runner, as it is possible to correctly distribute forces by feeling the track.

But having a flat sole will not protect the athlete from gravel or small stones as the sneakers have practically no protectors. They are more often used on special stadium coverings. In marathons no instep support, therefore, if the runner has minimal deviations in the structure of the foot from the norm, it is better to choose another shoe option.

Popular models marathoners:

  • Asics Piranha.
  • Mizuno Wave Universe 4.
  • Saucony Grid Type A5.
  • Brooks T7 Racer.

Photo 1. The Brooks T7 Racer for competition on asphalt with bright colors, weighing 170 g.

Half marathon

This is another interesting name given to shoes by athletes. In fact, this has nothing to do with the classification of sneakers. Half marathon seriously differ from marathons in design. In the conventional sense of a marathon in such shoes, it is much easier to run it.

Important! High shock-absorbing properties of half marathons more suitable for running and can easily support above average weights... You can run a marathon in sneakers even in bad weather conditions when traction on the running surface is reduced.

Advantages:

  • dense sole;
  • the presence of an instep support;
  • reinforced toe and high heel;
  • good shock absorption;
  • protectors for better grip.

Of the minuses call what these models are tangible in weight when compared to marathons.

Half marathons are also suitable for runners with heel support technique, in many models this moment is provided. Half marathons are more popular with runners.

These shoes are versatile and suitable for long runs on asphalt. Notable models half marathons:

  • Asics Gel-DS Trainer 18.
  • Mizuno Wave Precision 13.
  • Mizuno Wave Rider.

Intermediate models

Intermediate types are suitable for those runners who cannot choose between marathons and half marathons. There are situations when you need to run a speed marathon. Asphalt pavement does not allow the use of marathons due to their lightness, while half marathons are heavier and not suitable for the middleweight runner. Then intermediate models come to the rescue.

Such sneakers absorbed the positive qualities of marathons: lightness, excellent track feel. Wherein in intermediate models reinforced heel and toe and also the shoes have reinforced sole.

For these sneakers, manufacturers use lightweight materials, in order to make them light while running with external roughness and power.

Intermediate models are suitable for athletes with toe-resting techniques. Popular intermediate models sneaker:

  • Asics Gel-DS Racer 9.
  • Asics Gel-Fundation 11.
  • Mizuno Wave Nirvana 9.

Choosing Marathon Shoes

Selection factors:

  • the weight;
  • the duration of the distance;
  • surface type;
  • the size shoes.

The weight of the runner is decisive in the choice. Athletes over 60 kilograms rarely choose marathons, but prefer half marathons or intermediate models.

Weight athletes less than 60 kilograms are free to choose and for running can even purchase marathon runners with thin soles.

Marathon women choose for short distances, in them the track is better felt. Long distances require a firm sole and good cushioning to prevent foot injuries.

Long-distance shoes should not only match the anatomical structure of the athlete's foot, but also be combined with the running surface. Depending on this, sneakers for marathon running with dense or, on the contrary, a thin sole.

If you have to run in natural conditions, then they give preference to a dense sole so that it can withstand bumps and small stones. The main thing is that it does not "sink" during the marathon, does not become stony, since when running it is fraught with serious injuries to the foot and ankle joint.

Important! If the marathon is run on specially prepared coating then the choice of sneakers is wide. Here fit soft and elastic models, without strongly pronounced protectors.

Necessary focus on convenience and comfort... Don't forget about size, foot width and running technique. Shoes are selected exactly to size. Deviation from this indicator is fraught with injuries.

Important! It is worth making sure that sneakers sat tight and did not hang out on the foot.

Marathon is one of the most difficult disciplines in athletics. Marathon runners run distances from 10 km to 42 km, at present there are also ultra marathons or super marathons - distances over 42.2 km. When preparing for a marathon, it is important to take into account all the nuances, any trifle, the cost of which can be a retirement from the race. Equipment, in particular, is no exception.
The right one for a marathon is the key to a successful race.

Features of shoes for marathon running

Among the runners, "marathons" are called - these are flexible maximum lightweight sports shoes for running long distances on a specially prepared track. It is practically not felt on the leg.

Due to their design, marathon runners provide comfort while running and prevent unnecessary stress on the joints and spine. Due to the lack of additional foot support systems, they are not suitable for runners with improper supination and pronation, as well as for athletes who land on the heel when running, since the shock absorption is reduced in favor of speed. The fact is that with high-speed running in sneakers with sufficiently good shock absorption, the leg begins to "get stuck" during the push, respectively, the speed decreases and more energy is spent to overcome the dip in the push.

How to choose shoes for a marathon

  1. The most important aspect of choosing a marathon shoe is weight. After the middle of the distance, every extra gram turns into “tons” of weight. The lighter the shoe, the better.
  2. Reliability of construction and manufacturability of materials. You bought a lightweight, flexible, stylish shoe, but after 5 km of running, it fell apart. It is good if this is during training, as well as retirement. It is important to choose high quality models from reliable brands, this is a guarantee of using the latest technologies and materials in production, and to participate in competitions, use shoes that you personally tested during training.
  3. Buy marathons only based on your personal experience and feelings. There are no two identical people, they are perfect for someone, but for someone. And advice and recommendations, in this case, require verification. It even happens that the updated model may differ from last year's sneakers of the same line, which fit perfectly on your foot and completely suit you.
  4. Marathon shoes must be exactly the right size, no larger or smaller. Remember the sensations of uncomfortable shoes when walking, and then run 40 km ... Using uncomfortable shoes or shoes that are not in size can lead at least to blisters, at most to injuries.
  5. Old and worn out shoes are not suitable for a marathon run, they may not withstand the load and cause injury or tear, leading to retirement. The "run" of marathons is 1-3 marathons or about 800 km for training. As a rule, professional athletes run in marathons, for whom the weight of shoes and speed are important. Thanks to the preparation, the sky-high average speed at a distance, therefore, for amateur athletes, such a sacrifice due to the decrease in shock absorption is not recommended.
Lightweight sneakers or half marathons can be a worthy alternative to marathons for amateur athletes.
Half marathons are a more tailored model, they are still lighter, but have a thicker sole and have better cushioning. They are tougher and safer, but heavier than marathons, which can affect performance. Half marathons are quite popular footwear. Marathons and half marathons should be used if your average competitive speed starts from 3.10 - 3.20 min / km and above.

Do you know what the first running shoes looked like? Professional athletes have covered miles in shoes with nylon uppers, semi-soft rubber soles and almost no cushioning. After half a century, running shoes have changed beyond recognition. We invite you to get acquainted with the new technologies embodied in the models from the leading manufacturers of sports equipment and, possibly, choose the best running shoes for yourself!

Important factors when choosing sneakers

Choosing the right footwear for running is an important step for a beginner athlete. The ideal running pair minimizes the risk of injury to knees, spine, foot and tendons. Conversely, running in the wrong shoe size, level of cushioning, weight and fixation will cause you to quickly diminish your athletic ambitions.

When choosing a running shoe, consider the following individual factors:

  • Weight and fitness level. If the runner is heavy (over 80 kg), a shoe with a high level of cushioning is required. If the athlete's ligaments and muscles are untrained, you need to choose sneakers with stable fixation and support.
  • ... If an athlete runs in the classical technique with a heel landing, sneakers with a drop of 10 mm or more will suit him. There must be a shock absorber in the back of the foot, which reduces the shock load on the shin and knees. In a natural running technique where the athlete lands on the midfoot, the best running shoe is one with a uniform height and midsole tread. Toe running involves pushing off the ground with the forefoot, so sprinters need a shoe with extra cushioning in the forefoot.
  • Foot structure... For runners, it is easy to choose a running shoe as most athletic shoe models will suit them. Naturally cushioning the foot is not enough, so you need to choose shoes with maximum support and a non-rigid last. If necessary, remove the load from the lower leg. Running shoes with cushioning in the outsole and a smooth ride would be the best option.
  • Foot size and width... It is best to purchase running shoes that are 1-1.5 sizes larger than your casual shoes. This will protect your fingers and nails from injury. Models from different manufacturers differ in width. For example, Asics makes shoes with a narrow last, Puma - with a medium width. New Balance and Reebok have a fairly wide last, while Mizuno has a wide toe and narrow heel. It is better to try on sneakers at the end of the day, when the feet are enlarged and slightly flattened.

These individual factors will help you find the perfect running pair. But first you need to decide on what kind of treadmill and in what weather conditions you plan to train. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the main types of sports sneakers.

What are the running shoes

Running shoes differ according to the following criteria:

  • Season or weather conditions
  • Running surface or purpose
  • Athlete gender

Let's take a closer look at what these differences are.

Season

When choosing sneakers, you need to clearly determine in what weather conditions you will be running. Summer running shoes have a lightweight, often perforated upper. Thanks to these features, the shoes are easy to breathe. Legs do not sweat or overheat. However, in the winter season or bad weather, these shoes get wet quickly, creating discomfort for the runner.

Sneakers for running in the cold season are made of dense materials. Shoes do not get wet and keep warm. But even the most advanced technology, including Gore-Tex, cannot provide a runner with dry feet and good ventilation at the same time.

Running cover

Depending on the purpose, there are sneakers designed for different types. For example:

Trainers, or "remote"

A sneaker for running on asphalt and hard ground. Used for regular training as well as long distance races. The sneaker provides quality support for the foot and has good cushioning properties. A cool example is the Adidas Energy sneaker.

Competitive

"Marathons", "Half Marathons". Due to their low weight and flexibility, they are used in tempo training and competitions. However, they are not equipped with additional technologies for cushioning, support and stabilization of the foot. Such features of sneakers create an additional load on the athlete's musculoskeletal system. Therefore, these shoes are not recommended for training.

Minimalistic

Sneakers are lightweight, provide maximum freedom and natural movement of the foot, simulating barefoot running. The shoe has a low level of shock absorption, and thanks to its flexibility, it trains the arch of the foot and. Ideal for treadmill workouts. Choosing "minimums", it should be remembered that training in them can be traumatic for an untrained runner.

Trail

The (off-road) running shoe is designed for running on mountainous terrain, rocks, branches and slippery surfaces. The shoe has a powerful protector that helps prevent slipping and injury to the foot. Sneakers are made of dense material, equipped with additional finger protection. Of all the running shoes, trail shoes have the highest weight, low cushioning and stiffness.

Women's and men's sneakers

When creating comfortable sneakers, manufacturers take into account the anatomical features of the foot structure of women and men. Women's running shoes differ from men's:

  • Form... The forefoot in women is usually wider than the hindfoot. This is why the runner's shoe has a narrow last. Improved fit of the foot is achieved through a high heel counter.
  • Rigidity... Women's sneakers are softer than men's. This is due to the fact that when pushing off the surface, a woman spends less effort.
  • Depreciation level... Typically, women are lighter and less muscular than men. Therefore, women's running shoes have softer cushioning.

Sneaker rating

Based on customer feedback, Livelong has compiled a rating of the shoe for running on tarmac and rough terrain. The list contains models for different purposes and in different price categories.
