lg g6 fast charging. Review of the smartphone LG G6: the flagship with a huge screen without frames. Performance and operating system

The last few years have not been the most successful for the mobile division of LG. The leather-backed LG G4 received a cold welcome from buyers, while the LG G5 was baffling with its ill-conceived module system. At some point, it even seemed that LG would no longer be able to get out of this series of failures in the smartphone market. However, at the Mobile World Congress 2017, the company introduced a new flagship - LG G6. From the very first glance at this model, it becomes clear that it continues the glorious tradition of thin-bezel design, laid down in the G2. But what about the other characteristics of this smartphone? Let's take a closer look at the capabilities of the LG G6, and try to figure out if this model can help LG regain lost ground.

Design and materials

The front panel design of the LG G6 is built around a 5.7-inch display, which occupies almost the entire front panel of the smartphone. And in this case, this is not an exaggeration at all, the frames around the LG G6 screen are really small. In this regard, it resembles the most successful models of the company: G2 and G3. Such a “return to the roots”, as for me, only benefited LG, the company abandoned the idea of \u200b\u200bmaking a modular smartphone and focused on what is easier to convey to consumers. And a relatively compact smartphone with a large display is exactly what you need.

With the G6, LG almost departed from the latest smartphone design trends with a slant towards rounded shapes. At least the front glass is completely flat here, and the metal frame even creeps over it a little.

The back of the body of the LG G6 is no less expressive than the front, and not least thanks to the dual camera unit, as well as the power button with a fingerprint scanner. Together they look like the smartphone is very surprised to see you. However, the cameras, flash, and fingerprint scanner are located symmetrically, and given the good colors of the case, the back side looks even stylish.

By the way, LG G6 will be available for sale in three colors: classic white and black, as well as platinum. Given the glossy finish, they are all quite easily soiled, but it will be least noticeable in white and platinum colors.

There are no control keys on the front panel of the smartphone, they are virtual and located at the bottom of the display. Traditionally for LG in the settings, you can change the appearance of the panel with buttons, as well as their position and color.

On the left side are the volume keys, they protrude from the body, so they are quite easy to find by touch.

On the right sidewall you can find only a slot for nano SIM and a memory card. It is hybrid, that is, you can use either two SIMs, or one SIM and a microSD card.

On the bottom edge there is a microphone, a USB Type-C connector, as well as an external speaker.

At the top end there is another microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The case measures 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9 mm, which is only slightly larger than the 5-5.3-inch models. For comparison, the dimensions of last year's flagship Galaxy S7 are 142.4 × 69.6 × 7.9 mm.

The body materials of the LG G6 are simple at first glance: glass and metal. But in fact, they are more diverse than it might seem. The fact is that the company used Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass for the front panel, Gorilla Glass 5 for the back panel, and Gorilla Glass 4 for the block with cameras. LG does not explain this approach, however, this does not affect the consumer properties of the smartphone. . Gorilla Glass 3 has the same hardness as the new generations of protective glass, and is only inferior to them in strength. However, this did not stop the LG G6 from passing 14 MIL-STD 810G lab strength tests. This means that the smartphone has increased shock resistance, vibration resistance, and can be used by the US Department of Defense, as well as NATO.

In addition, the LG G6 has IP68 water and dust resistance, it can be lowered into water to a depth of 1.5 meters and for up to 30 minutes.

Display

The LG G6 has a 5.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2880x1440 pixels (564 ppi) and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Traditionally for LG, the screen demonstrates a high-quality picture with wide viewing angles.

The maximum brightness of the display, according to our measurements, reaches 422 cd/m2, the minimum is 3.3 cd/m2, and the contrast ratio is 1681:1.

The screen provides more than 100% coverage of the sRGB color space, but by default its color reproduction is quite "cold", it is at the level of 7450K, but this can be corrected by activating the "blue color filter". The latter has three gradation modes, as well as the ability to switch the display to black and white.

The LG G6 display supports HDR 10 technology, which makes the image in the video more saturated, but so far it only works in the Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps.

The non-standard aspect ratio does not affect the display of Android applications, at least the current ones. They can be scaled to a 16.7:9 aspect ratio, in which case the navigation keys and status bar are displayed, or full screen 18:9.

The latter is relevant for games, but not all of them correctly adjust to this aspect ratio, so you often have to run them with black bars on the sides of the screen. The same applies to watching videos. However, you quickly get used to this feature of the smartphone.

The LG G6 also has a feature to display information on a locked display.

It can be time, notification icons, or arbitrary text.

Platform and Performance

The LG G6 is built on a Qualcomm platform with a Snapdragon 821 processor running at 1.6 and 2.35 GHz, as well as Adreno 530 graphics. In addition, the test version of the smartphone was equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded another 256 GB using a microSD card. As mentioned above, the card slot is hybrid. Wireless modules include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP support and aptX HD codec. The A-GPS/GLONASS/BDS module is responsible for navigation.

The Snapdragon 821 is a rather "cold" processor, so even under load, the LG G6 barely heats up.

To date, in synthetic tests, Snapdragon 821 no longer shows the most outstanding results, but this absolutely does not affect the speed of the smartphone. This is still one of the top platforms and its performance will last for several more years.

Interface

Works LG G6 running the operating system Android 7.0 with proprietary interface LG. It allows you to flexibly customize the display of desktops, select the style of icons and change themes.

You can, for example, place all applications on desktops, or hide them in a separate menu. You can also customize animation, change the font and the number of items displayed on desktops.

The drop-down notification curtain traditionally contains a quick settings panel and brightness control, while pulling it down reveals more options.

By default, smartphone settings are tabbed and rather confusing, but they can be switched to a list view, which is closer to the default settings in Android 7.0.

There are a lot of pre-installed applications in the LG G6. There is a built-in file manager, a utility for cleaning RAM and temporary files from the drive, a QuickMemo + note taking program with support for synchronization via Google Drive or Evernote, a task list, and LG Health with a pedometer and the ability to track exercise. Also worth noting are audio recording applications that allow you to do this with quality up to 24 bit / 196 kHz and save to FLAC.

Thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio of the LG G6, it is more convenient to work with two programs in one window, they display more information.

To do this, from the multitasking menu, you can minimize the application to one half of the window, and the second to the other.

This is convenient when you need to have additional information before your eyes.

The fingerprint scanner

The fingerprint sensor is located on the back of the LG G6 just below the camera unit. It is not very large, but it is located well, so the index finger of both the right and left hands itself rests on it when you take the smartphone.

The scanner works quickly, and you just need to put your finger on it to unlock the display. It supports adding up to 5 prints.

cameras

The LG G6 has two main cameras at once. One 13 megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, 3-axis optical stabilization and a 71-degree field of view.

And the second - with the same resolution, but with an aperture of f / 2.4 and a wide-angle lens with a viewing angle of 125 degrees.

In good light:

In poor lighting:

A camera with a regular lens shoots better at night, but a wide-angle camera is very useful if the subject does not fit into the frame. In general, the quality of the pictures is at a good level.

The front camera in the LG G6 is a 5-megapixel f/2.2 lens with a 100-degree field of view. In the camera menu, you can manually switch from wide-angle to portrait mode.

Audio

In Ukraine, a version of the LG G6 with a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad digital-to-analog converter will be sold, thanks to which the smartphone sounds really great.

There is only one external speaker in the LG G6, it has an average volume, apparently the protective membrane from water affects, but it is enough not to miss a call or notification. But the speaker is really loud, you can leave it less than half the volume and the interlocutors will be perfectly audible even in noisy places.

The LG G6 has an FM radio, so when you plug in your headphones, you can listen to your favorite radio station and even record audio from it.

In general, the musical capabilities of the smartphone are very wide and in this regard it is one of the best on the market at the moment.

autonomy

Built-in LG G6 battery has a capacity of 3300 mAh. Unfortunately, the PCMark autonomy test gave an error on the smartphone, so all three attempts to conduct it ended in failure. In everyday use, the smartphone provides more than a day of battery life with more than 6 hours of active screen.

This includes background sync, instant messengers, social media clients, 30 minutes of calls per day, an hour of gaming and YouTube, and an hour of music. That is, you can actively use your smartphone all day and not worry that it will not live until the evening. For a battery of this capacity, this is a good result. In addition, LG G6 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and charges via USB Type-C port.

Site score

Pros: design, materials, build quality, IP68 and MIL-STD 810G protection, display, performance, cameras, built-in 32-bit D/A converter, autonomy, fast charging

Minuses: easily soiled body, high price

Output: LG G6 is a new flagship smartphone with a 5.7-inch display that takes up almost the entire front panel. This design originates from the LG G2, one of the company's most successful smartphones. Given this fact, as well as a generally good set of characteristics, we can say that after a number of not the most successful smartphones, LG managed to create a really interesting product. And even though this year's competition among flagships is as high as ever, the LG G6 has something to stand out from their background. The strengths of the model include a large display in a relatively compact body, two cameras with good image quality, a built-in DAC, body protection according to IP68 and MIL-STD 810G standards. The LG G6 has practically no cons, and the only serious thing for Ukrainian consumers will be the high price of a smartphone, which is generally typical for flagships from A-brands

However, nothing new: the usual color reproduction is not only for LG, but in general for any modern flagships. The only exceptions are Samsung and Motorola.

New - in sound! By and large, flagship LG got a 32-bit Quad DAC at its disposal back in 2015, with the announcement of the V10. Then the sound migrated to the G6 and V20, but de facto had almost no effect on the sound quality of the smartphone. In G6, everything is completely different! The smartphone itself sounds pretty good - not super-detailed, but the volume is already “adult”, the low frequencies are a little narrower, the high ones are muffled, the “middle” sings in the ears. With the activation of the Quad DAC (LG is silent about which model is inside. It is likely that the same ESS ES9218 borrowed from the LG V20) the volume ceiling rises sharply, the detail increases so that you start to notice defects in MP3 files, the scene becomes wider, the bottoms "inflate", but in moderation and do not hammer on the ears. A very successful configuration for high-impedance monitor headphones.

But with vacuum "plugs" very soon it begins to ring in the ears from excessive clear percussion and hissing sounds in the vocals. It makes sense to get into the equalizer and make the sound a little softer. But in sound detailing, it’s better to “overdo it than not do it”: if LG had a bad sound path with distortions and background noise, the “twists” would definitely not have helped it out.

I would be wary of comparing the LG G6 to the ZTE Axon 7 and its AKM AK4961, but with the Quad DAC activated, our test hero sounds a lot better than the Xiaomi Mi5s, OnePlus 3, or LeEco Le Pro 3. The lead over the Galaxy S7 edge isn't that great anymore, but in high-quality files, it will be noticeable that Samsung is a little “not holding out”.

The speaker is of high quality, about the same as in the Galaxy S7 or iPhone 7. The volume level is slightly above average, low frequencies are not felt, no "meat" or drama. So it's not bad, but a little annoying that in the LG G5 with the same dimensions, the speaker sounds louder, clearer, and more bass.

Iron

The performance of LG's flagships is a three-year-old tragedy. In 2013 and 2014, LG was ahead of the curve with its Quad HD display in the G3, and only the Snapdragon 801 with so many dots was pushed to its limits. Therefore, the speed of the smartphone did not shine, but everyone understood that innovative technologies require sacrifice. In 2015, Qualcomm, to put it mildly, messed up with overheating of its Snapdragon 810, so the LG G4 was forced to get a six-core "stump" with an index of 808. It's a sin to blame the Koreans for this - the MediaTek Helio X10 was even worse, and there were no other options left.

Over the past couple of years, LG has significantly lost its position in the mobile market. The reason for this was the release of two not very successful models - G4 and G5. And if the four still had an interesting design, a leather back cover, but was still coolly received by consumers, then the five turned out to be completely faceless, with an absolutely ill-conceived and, as a result, unsuccessful system of modules. After such a series of failures, it is quite difficult to recover, but Korean masters are not one of those who give up. After carefully analyzing all the mistakes made in the latest G series devices, the company decided to redeem itself and released the sixth model. The new LG G6 is a rather attractive device with good cameras, excellent sound, a frameless screen and protection against moisture and dust. As you can see, when developing this product, the manufacturer focused on the latest trends, but let's take a look at what he ended up with.

Design and delivery of the smartphone LG G6

Quite a nice and stylish device, made in the monoblock form factor. It looks incredibly stylish, beautiful and neat. In front, the entire screen area is covered by Gorilla Glass 3 glass, at the back, the entire back side is aluminum and is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 glass, which is slightly rounded to a metal, matte, brushed frame. It protects all facets of the smartphone and at the same time looks very good, without breaking out of the overall design in a minimalist style.

Of the unpleasant moments, it is worth noting right away that the back glass cover slams shut in just a couple of seconds. Immediately get ready for the fact that if you want your device to always look perfect, you will have to wipe it very often.

As for the color scheme of the LG G6, users have plenty to choose from. The device is presented in the following shades:

  1. Space black.
  2. Ice platinum.
  3. Terracotta gold.
  4. Sea blue.
All colors are not bright, they do not hurt the eyes, so no matter what device you choose, it will perfectly fit into both everyday and business style. It is also worth noting that black and sea blue look more classic and premium, but the sweat marks are less visible on gold and platinum.

Almost the entire frontal area is given over to the screen, as the manufacturer claims, it occupies 80.7% of the phone's surface area. The frames on the sides are almost invisible, and they are quite small at the top and bottom.

Above the screen of the smartphone LG G6 are:

  • front camera module;
  • speaker;
  • proximity sensor;
  • light sensor.
There are no mechanical buttons in the lower part under the screen, and only the manufacturer's logo is located on the frame in the middle. It would be a very good move if they made a fingerprint element on it or even put a fingerprint scanner on the screen in accordance with the latest trends, but unfortunately, it was placed on the back side. In addition to the fingerprint scanner on the back cover, we found:
  1. Two nice round eyes of the main cameras.
  2. Dual LED flash.
  3. A neat, very small inscription in the upper left corner of the Hi-Fi 32 bit DAC.
  4. Model name at the bottom.
On the top end of the LG G6 are:
  1. Connector minijack 3.5 mm.
  2. Additional microphone hole.
On the bottom edge are:
  1. USB Type-C.
  2. multimedia speaker.
  3. Main conversational microphone.
On the right side of the device there is a combined tray for two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card. On the left side of the device, we noticed only two separate keys for volume control. They are metal, comfortable, pressed with a click.

Separately, it should be said that the device does not have an on / off button on the side faces, it is located at the back, and it is in it that the fingerprint scanner is built. This sensor perfectly recognizes touches and unlocks the device in a split second. We did not have any complaints about his work, everything is smart and unmistakable.

The dimensions will not surprise the user, the device is moderately thin, not heavy, quite comfortable.

The dimensions of the smartphone LG G6 are as follows:

  • length - 148.9 mm;
  • width - 71.9 mm;
  • thickness - 7.9 mm.
This device weighs 163 grams. As for ergonomics, everything here is also at a good level. The device is convenient to use, pleasantly rounded corners and edges do not cut the hand, the model lies well in the palm of your hand, does not slip at all. Even taking into account the fact that the device is still not small, we easily fit it into the pocket of jeans or a jacket, and there will definitely be a place in any, even the smallest handbag.

The LG G6 smartphone came to us in a small, matte, black cardboard box. On the front side of the package, we saw only the gray inscription G6, on the back side there is the manufacturer's logo, the model name and a number of necessary, mandatory information. Also, the name of the device can be seen on the top of the box. In addition, on one of the sides there is a sticker with the main characteristics of the device, and on the second there is an inscription - a slogan related to this model - LIFE IS GOOD WHEN YOU Play More. As you can see, the beginning of this inscription, of course, is the official slogan of the entire corporation - Life is Good. Opening the box, we found inside:

  1. Pleasant to the touch black cloth for wiping with the name of the model.
  2. Smartphone LG G6.
  3. USB Type-C cable.
  4. Key-clip to extract the tray.
  5. Charger with 9V-1.8A/5V-1.6A fast charging function.
  6. All documentation required by the user.
  7. Corporate headset.
Everything is well and securely packed, the documentation includes a warranty card from the manufacturer and instructions for using the device. The assembly of this model is excellent, it looks and feels solid, and the whole design as a whole left us with a very pleasant impression.

LG G6 - display overview

The flagship LG G6 we are considering has a really good screen, as befits a flagship. Consider its main characteristics:

The sensor recognizes up to 10 simultaneous touches. Implemented Dolby Vision and HDR10 technology, which, according to the manufacturer, gives a very rich and vibrant picture when viewing photos and videos from the screen of this gadget. Dolby Vision has several modes:

  1. Bright. To improve video quality at high brightness.
  2. Saturated. Perfectly emphasizes colors and brightness.
  3. Cinematic. Optimal for use in the dark and creating a cinematic feel.
  4. Standard. Used to provide the best balance between the quality of the displayed video and battery consumption.
It is difficult to say how important this aspect is, because we practically do not have this content available. But, as they say, the thing is certainly not superfluous and will come in handy over time.

Since the LG G6 smartphone does not have a notification indicator, it is partially replaced by an all-time-on display, which in this state shows the time, battery charge and some other information. If you want to disable the "Always-on Display" function, this can be easily done in the settings. Also, the screen turns off if you close the light sensor. That is, if your device is in your pocket or on the table with the back side up, then this function will not work.

The glass covering this screen is completely flat, with no edge distortion or 2.5D effect. The oleophobic coating of this display is good, there are almost no prints left, which is very pleasing. Clarity and contrast are on top, color reproduction is good, as are anti-reflective properties. We managed to read, play and watch videos in sunlight without any problems. The color temperature, in our opinion, is a little too high and the screen seems cold on white, but this does not interfere at all. All other colors are quite natural, do not distort under any inclination and are very pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, if such a factory calibration does not suit you, you still cannot change anything, the adjustment of this parameter is not available in the settings.

LG G6 Smartphone - Performance Specifications

As for speed, energy efficiency and overall performance, everything is at a good level. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor is the heart of this product. Two Kryo cores of this chipset operate at a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, and two more at a maximum rate of 2.35 GHz. The integrated graphics component in this case is Adreno 530. To tell the truth, this processor was the TOP of 2016 and is now a little outdated, but there's nothing to be done, everything is developing very rapidly in the mobile industry. But in any case, the device coped with all the tasks on testing without problems, worked quickly, without freezes even at maximum load, and with all this, it practically did not warm up, which is also a big plus.

Memory is enough for daily use, various educational, gaming and business applications. Memory in the smartphone LG G6:

  • operational - 4 GB;
  • built-in - 32 GB.
Configurations with 64 GB of RAM also appeared on the Russian market. If it seems to you that in today's realities 32 or even 64 gigabytes of internal storage is not enough to not worry about anything, then this problem is solved by installing a Micro SD memory card up to 2 TB.

The operating system this product ships with is Android 7.0 Nougat. Most likely, an update to the eight is expected in the near future, since at the moment it is very relevant and simply necessary in order to push or take a worthy place among competitors. After all, the newest flagships from masters from China and beyond come out with Android 8 Oreo preinstalled.

Phone LG G6 - camera and sound

Camera modules, in our opinion, are quite good. I was also pleased that the company did not pursue apple trends. They do not protrude from the body, so the user does not have to worry about scratching them again. In addition, the lens is covered with Gorilla Glass 4.

The LG G6 has two main cameras, namely:

  1. Widescreen - 13 MP with f / 2.4 aperture, 125 degrees.
  2. Standard - 13 MP with f / 1.8 aperture, 71 degrees.
Of the features and main characteristics, it is worth highlighting that the cameras can take photos with a resolution of up to 4160x3120 pixels. There is a fast and, as it seemed to us, very sensitive autofocus. It perfectly distinguishes the desired objects even at a great distance and in outdoor (solar) lighting conditions. There is a nice manual mode in which you can adjust the shutter speed, set the ISO, exposure, adjust the white balance and even work with some parameters. During testing, optical stabilization performed well, the focus on moving people and animals is also well preserved, it is practically not lost. There is a Zero Shutter Lag feature that instantly captures an image as soon as you press the shutter in camera mode. You can also turn on the HDR mode, which allows you to adjust the contrast of the image.

In addition to all of the above, there are a number of different filters and 360 Panorama Mode, in which you can capture everything around you and, as a result, get one big shot stitched from different frames. There is a fairly bright double flash and an eight-fold zoom. Also, interesting is the Multi-view in which the user has the opportunity to create a photo or video collage from the images of the dual rear and front cameras. The result looks really interesting and original.

And the last feature that I would like to put a little emphasis on is the square mode, it divides the screen and the user can use functions such as:
  1. Quick shot. During shooting, you can view the future and the last photo at the same time.
  2. A collage of four photos. Allows you to take a lot of frames and combine them into a collage.
  3. A photo with a hint. You can create a photo from a template.
  4. Collage of two photos. Allows you to view previews of two pictures and merge them into one picture.
Video recording is possible in formats up to UHD (3840 x 2160). H.263, H.264, MPEG-4, VP8, VP9, XviD, MJPEG, THEORA, HEVC.

The front-facing selfie camera of the LG G6, which is good, is also wide-angle with a 100-degree angle, it has a resolution of 5 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.2. The viewing angle can be switched to the standard 82 degrees, that is, switch from widescreen to portrait mode. The maximum photo resolution in this case is 2560x2160 pixels. There are Selfie Light and Beauty Shot functions, the first of which provides additional illumination to better highlight the main object, and the second automatically removes some defects from the face and softens its features. It seemed to us that the quality of the resulting photos is rather average, but in general, if you do not find fault, then everything is not bad at all.

There is a face recognition function, so to unlock the LG G6 screen, you just need to point it at yourself and smile. During testing, we noted that it works well and practically does not make mistakes.

We liked the sound of the device, as well as the way it records sound. As promised by the manufacturer, thanks to two AOP microphones and Hi-Fi full-frequency sound recording, the sound track is of really high quality. The LG G6 smartphone plays quite loudly and everything is heard clearly and without distortion. Ideally, of course, I would like stereo, this would add pluses to the device, but so far it’s quite excellent.

Another interesting detail is that the LG G6 smartphone has a 32-bit digital-to-analog converter. This is certainly good, but in order to enjoy all the beauty of the sound, you will need an appropriate extension of the music and very high-quality headphones. In principle, everything sounds great even in a standard headset, the sound track sounds juicy and rich, regardless of its format. In addition, it is possible to adjust the equalizer to your wishes if necessary.

Autonomy, networks, sensors, protection of the smartphone LG G6

The autonomy of the LG G6 is very mediocre, as for modern smartphones, this indicator looks better for most direct competitors. A non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh is installed inside the device. A fully charged battery allows you to function for about a day with the active use of the device. It seems to be quite enough, but still I would like more battery life. But Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology is built in here.

Separately, for those who like to play, a battery saving system in game applications has been thought out. That is, an avid gamer can adjust not only the frame rate and resolution for their gameplay, but also the battery consumption.

The network capabilities of the LG G6 smartphone are:

  • 2G - GSM 850/900/1800/1900;
  • 3G - HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100;
  • 4G - HSPA+ B1, B2, B5, B8.
Wireless networks for this gadget:
  • Wi-Fi - 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac;
  • Bluetooth version 4.2.
The set of sensors is quite familiar:
  • digital compass;
  • light sensor;
  • accelerometer;
  • proximity sensor;
  • gyroscope.
Smartphone LG G6 received good protection against water and dust particles. To confirm the manufacturer conducted tests in the laboratory. As a result, the device successfully passed the conditions for compliance with the IP68 standard. And this means that the device can withstand immersion in water to a depth of one and a half meters for half an hour. So now you don't have to worry if your new smartphone accidentally falls into a bathtub, puddle or fountain. Moreover, nothing will happen to him if you get wet in the rain. All you need to do after that is to wipe it with a dry towel. And of course, do not forget that you should also charge the device only in a dry state.

Also, the protection of the LG G6 meets the American military standard MIL-STD-810G, which was confirmed by a number of tests. All this suggests that the device perfectly tolerates extreme heat and cold, works both at high and low temperatures without failures, and the Gorilla Glass 3 glass covering the screen and Gorilla Glass 5 covering the back side will withstand the fall and protect the gadget from scratches and cracks.

Of course, we don’t recommend deliberately drowning a gadget, as well as constantly testing it for strength, since even the manufacturer’s website states that the product may not always withstand such conditions. But with daily use from unpleasant accidents, such protection will completely save it. In two days, the device was not scratched at all, and this despite the fact that we carried it in our pocket with keys and small change and a couple of times even accidentally dropped it on the floor from the desktop. To make sure it was fully protected, we nevertheless tested its water resistance and the result was also quite satisfactory, after 25 minutes in a glass of water, the LG G6 smartphone worked without any problems.

Pros and cons of LG G6, price, conclusions

After carefully examining this device and testing it for some time, we decided, summing up, to highlight such strengths and weaknesses:
prosMinuses
Excellent design and materials.Strongly slammed glass on the back cover.
Good build quality. Protection against dust and moisture.
Bright screen with good color reproduction.Not enough internal memory.
Great sound from both speakers and headset.Very mediocre margin of autonomy.
Very sensitive microphones that allow you to record an audio track in high quality.Unable to adjust color temperature.
High quality main cameras for great photos and videos.Outdated processor. This does not affect performance, it is well optimized in practice, but in theory we would like more modern solutions.

The price of LG G6 in Russia is 37,990 rubles for a configuration with 32 GB of ROM. A model with 64 GB of ROM can be purchased for 39,990 rubles.

It seems to us that the device turned out to be good, without any “buts” and at a completely justified price. And, apparently, even after a series of failures of the company, consumers met him quite favorably. As you already know, in the near future we can expect a new LG G7 and let's hope that the manufacturer does not deviate from the intended course into unjustified experiments and the new device will be even better and more interesting, and we will definitely tell you about it in detail.

A fairly powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which includes 4 cores with a frequency of 2350 MHz, is the hardware platform of the LG G6 smartphone. Graphics processing is carried out thanks to the Adreno 530 video processor. The amount of memory is 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of built-in memory, while it is possible to expand the memory using microSD supported by the device. The memory card is installed in one of the SIM card slots. Hybrid SIM slot - Inserts two Nano-SIMs or one SIM and one memory card.

The non-removable battery has a capacity of 3300 mAh, in addition, there is a fast charging function. The device does not have a large degree of autonomy, it has to be charged quite often due to the presence of a bright screen with a high resolution. With an average intensity of use, the LG G6 does not require charging for about 12 hours, with the inclusion of an energy-saving mode, the device is able to work without charging for more than a day and a half. Watching video format FullHD, at full brightness of the display, is possible for 9 hours continuously. Mobile games drain the battery much faster - in just 4 hours.

Software LG G6 - operating system Android 7.0 (version Nougat).

Advantages:

  • speed;
  • fast charging;
  • the battery holds a charge for a long time;
  • large amount of internal memory;
  • processor cooling system;
  • support for active games.

Disadvantages:

  • combined slot for SIM-card and microSD.

Device design

Externally, the device has a calm, attractive design without frills. The body materials of the smartphone of this model are metal, glass and the complete absence of plastic. The front and back panels are made of special glass - Gorilla Glass 3 (for the display) and Gorilla Glass 5 (for the back cover). A feature of this type of glass is its strength, resistance to damage and scratches, and the absence of many glare. The protective film adheres well to such glass and fingerprints are less likely to appear than on ordinary glass.

The smartphone also has a convenient and attractive shape - a flat front panel does not have a sloping edge, the back, on the contrary, has bevels that allow you to easily lift the device from a flat surface. The non-standard screen size stretches the smartphone in height, makes it narrow, while the device is comfortable to hold in hand, although it is worth noting that metal and glass make the gadget slippery. And this fact leads to voicing another advantage of this smartphone - its case has serious dust protection, and is also not afraid of being completely immersed in water (one and a half meters) for 30 minutes. The fact is that the LG G6 is designed to withstand harsh working conditions, it has been tested (for example, the device was dropped 26 times on plywood from a height of about 1.2 meters and was not damaged), and received a military standard certificate - MIL-STD-810G .

The volume buttons are located on the left, the power button, combined with a fingerprint scanner, is located on the back of the device. All buttons are made of metal, which increases the usability of the device. The controls, as well as the camera, are covered with glass and do not protrude.

There are three design color options with bright names - Icy Platinum, Cosmic Black and Mystic White, for grey, black and white respectively.

Advantages:

  • the ability to control with one hand;
  • ergonomics;
  • body strength;
  • nice design;
  • moisture resistance;
  • fall resistance.

Disadvantages:

  • not detected.

Screen Specifications

With an aspect ratio of 18:9, the smartphone has a resolution of 2880x1440 (565 ppi). In addition to its unusual resolution, the display has an IPS matrix and the narrowest possible frame, which gives the appearance of the device freshness and novelty. It is also worth noting that due to the large resolution, more text fits on the screen.

A high maximum brightness indicates good readability even in sunlight, which is also facilitated by a coating that has anti-reflective and oleophobic (grease-repellent) properties.

It is also convenient that the brightness of the screen is easily adjusted to the individual preferences of the user, you can also use the automatic setting, which is based on the readings of the light sensor. Another nice feature of the LG G6 screen is that even when you turn it off, the display shows the time, date and important events.

In general, the screen is of fairly high quality, supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10 modes, displays a rich, fairly contrasting image, and the multi-touch sensor perceives ten touches at the same time.

Advantages:

  • comfortable screen brightness;
  • eye protection system against fatigue;
  • wide angle camera.

Disadvantages:

  • color reproduction quality is average;
  • if the outer glass is damaged, it is necessary to replace the screen completely (repair is more expensive).

Connection

This smartphone model supports LTE Advanced technology, as well as the main LTE bands - FDD (1800, 2600, 800 MHz) and TDD (2600, 2300 MHz). There is also support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GLONASS, GPS, A-GPS navigation systems and the Chinese Beidou system. The device is equipped with a built-in compass.

As for making phone calls, the device has support for Smart Dial - when dialing a phone number, the device searches for it in contacts by the first letters of the name. The phone book has properties that are standard for this operating system. During a call, the smartphone demonstrates good sound quality, which is clear, no noise and comfortable volume. The sound volume can be adjusted over a fairly wide range. Vibrating alert power is above average, it can also be adjusted.

Advantages:

  • voice recorder with many settings;
  • the presence of FM-radio and the ability to record from the air.

Disadvantages:

  • not detected.

Camera

The device is equipped with a dual rear (main) camera 13/13 MP, one of the cameras is standard, the other is with a wide viewing angle. The rear camera has autofocus, LED flash and optical stabilization system.

The 5 MP front-facing camera has no flash, its 100-degree field of view is ideal for taking selfies thanks to a number of additional features:

  1. control the camera with gestures or voice commands;
  2. automatic face recognition function;
  3. the ability to decorate a picture, add a signature, geotag;
  4. good color reproduction, sharpness and detail.

In addition, the smartphone has a "square shot" function - the display is divided into two parts, one of which allows you to view finished photos, and the second part is designed to create a new picture. This mode is useful for creating collages.

Video recording is carried out in a resolution of 3840 × 2160, as well as in Full HD (1920 × 1080) mode. The quality of video shooting is also high, the camera capabilities allow you to shoot on the go.

At the same time, the sound is quite clear, with good volume, and external noise is suppressed using a noise reduction system.

Photo examples

Photographing in the daytime:

Photo taken at night:

Advantages:

  • high quality photos.

Disadvantages:

  • a large amount of noise in night shots;
  • low quality photo and video shooting at night.

In this version of the LG G6 smartphone, much attention is paid to fine-tuning the interface, organizing menu icons, applications and appearance in general. The setting allows you to choose the most attractive theme, the design of keys, icons and icons, including changing their size, choosing a convenient way to search and sort. The virtual keyboard is also customizable, it can be reduced or enlarged, its layout can be changed, and the display of buttons can be corrected.

The number of built-in applications is moderate, except for the usual clients of popular social networks. networks, there are useful utilities for working with files, searching and communicating with other devices.

To play audio, a standard player with an equalizer is installed. The sound quality is very good - the sound is clear and crisp, this is facilitated by the Hi-Fi Quad digital-to-analogue converter.

Advantages:

  • availability of useful applications for working with data;
  • convenient customizable interface;
  • Hi-Fi audio and video recording.

Disadvantages:

  • not found.

General conclusion

The unusual, but discreet, harmonious design of the device arouses interest and a positive response from customers. In addition, the non-standard appearance of the device does not reduce the convenience of its use. Specifications - high quality images, photos, sound, powerful processor, large memory - bring the smartphone to the forefront, making the LG G6 on a par with similar high-level devices. To date, its cost is about 27,990 rubles.

Smartphone LG Q6+

The Q6 line of smartphones has its own characteristics, which are worth talking about in more detail - the firstborn of this line was the LG Q6, originally developed as a “shortened” model of the LG G6, with which the device has a lot in common. But as a result, two more models of smartphones of this line entered the market at once - LG Q6 + and LG Q6a (alpha). "Stuffing" and performance

The hardware platform of the LG Q6+ is relatively modest compared to the LG G6, with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4 MHz.

The developers decided to refuse fast charging, so the device is charged using microUSB. The battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh, and its distinguishing feature is that it has reliable protection against possible overheating due to the air gap and special thermal plates.

At the same time, the device has good performance, sufficient power. Downloading files is fast, the system is solid and responsive, and overall the smartphone is quite nimble.

  • military certification;
  • good autonomy;
  • separate slot for memory expansion (microSD);
  • NFC module.

Disadvantages:

  • relatively modest performance;
  • at dusk, autofocus does not work fast enough.

Device design

The device itself is comfortable, it fits well in the hand, the quality of the materials is also of a high level, the assembly is reliable, so we can say that the LG Q6+ smartphone is strong and durable. Proof of this is the use of AL-7000 aviation aluminum, which has high strength and light weight, when assembling. Like the LG G6, the device is MIL-STD-810G certified. The aluminum case has rounded edges, withstands drops and shocks, and is highly resistant to external damage and scratches. Another type of protection against negative consequences when the device falls is a special frame, the task of which is to increase resistance in the event of a fall of the device.

The design of the device is made in a minimalist style, has a thin aluminum frame and is generally distinguished by sophistication. Attractiveness is added by the rounded edges of the screen, the absence of parts protruding above the surface (the camera is on the same level with the device body). Smartphone LG Q6 + is available in three colors - blue, black and metallic.

The device is easy and comfortable to use with one hand - this is favored by the small width of its body (only 69.3 mm) and thin frames, so accidental pressing is practically excluded. The weight and dimensions of the smartphone are also smaller than those of the LG G6 - 142.6 x 69.3 x 8.1 mm and weighs 146 g.

Advantages:

  • spectacular design;
  • oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating;
  • compactness, convenience.

Disadvantages:

  • Marked glossy back cover.

Screen Specifications

A widescreen (18:9, 5.5-inch diagonal), with good resolution (Full HD +) and FullVision function is undoubtedly the main advantage of this smartphone model, such a display opens up more space not only for text, but also for photos and videos, and also active games, which will especially please gamers. At the same time, the image is clear, optimal brightness and saturation, which ensures comfort when viewing photos, videos, full-fledged movies, as well as text - reading, communication in social networks and instant messengers becomes even more enjoyable, and the eyes are protected from fatigue and excessive strain.

Advantages:

  • large display size;
  • a high resolution;
  • image quality;
  • interesting mode "Square";
  • comfortable brightness.

Disadvantages:

  • no event indicator.

Camera

Like other models in the line, the LG Q6 + smartphone is equipped with a 13 MP main (rear) camera and a 5 MP front camera. Also available are UX 6.0 interface, widescreen mode and square mode for easy creation of photo collages, as well as social media-oriented photos. The front camera will undoubtedly be appreciated by selfie lovers.

In general, photos and videos taken with a smartphone camera are sharp and have good color reproduction. The only exceptions are pictures taken in low light, at dusk, or at night - some blurring appears, and small details merge into a single whole.

Device interface, sound, software

In many ways, LG Q6 + is similar to other smartphones in the line - interior design, file sorting, user menu have a completely standard look. But there are several distinctive features, for example, the face recognition function, through which the phone is unlocked. In this model, this feature has been improved, and to unlock the screen, just look at it and smile. This has its own convenience, there is no need to swipe the screen, enter certain text or use a fingerprint scanner. There is also support for voice control and dialing.

A standard audio player is used to play audio content, the sound is crisp and clear. The microphone has good sensitivity. The recorder is customizable, for various purposes, easy to use.

Advantages:

  • user-friendly interface;
  • the latest version of the Android operating system;
  • various software;
  • high sound quality;
  • convenient virtual keyboard.

Disadvantages:

  • no fingerprint scanner.

General conclusion

A convenient and beautiful device that perfectly copes with everyday tasks, communication in social networks, viewing photos and videos. With a large screen, the smartphone is quite compact, with good autonomy. Despite the modesty of individual technical characteristics, the LG Q6 + is quite reliable and productive, it remains a popular and popular device that has an adequate cost - its average price is 20,000 rubles.

The LG G5 was lukewarmly received by critics and the general public. After the stylish G4, the company offered a very boring-looking device, replacing the skin with metal and relying on a modular design. Only the metal was hidden under the plastic, and the implementation of modularity was not the most successful. This year, the company decided to correct all the mistakes made, abandoned the modularity and minimized the frame on all sides. Let's see how the LG G6 turned out in the end.

Video review

Equipment and design

LG G6 comes in a small and modest-looking black box. Inside, the buyer is waiting for the smartphone itself, a branded piece of cloth for cleaning the device from fingerprints, a needle for removing the SIM card (there are two nano-SIM trays, one of which can also accept microSD), a set of documentation, a USB cable, a charger (up to 16.2 W) and good headphones.

LG G6 in Russia is presented in three colors - black, gray-blue and white with pink frames. In black, the G6 looks very personal, while in others, black frames around the screen can strain you. The design can be described as very neat and calm - there are no conspicuous elements, accents, absurdities. All design elements are made as less noticeable and bright as possible, so as not to draw attention to themselves. Small and flat volume buttons, a barely noticeable logo under the screen, a tiny earpiece - all together create a whole picture of calm and peace. An exception is made only for the G6 badge on the back.

The main design feature of the LG G6 is, of course, frameless. According to our calculations, the width of the side frames was 3.58 mm, and the top and bottom padding in total was only 19.4 mm. As a result, the screen occupies 78.32% of the front surface. The display itself has a diagonal of 5.7 "and a resolution of 2880x1440 pixels, the pixel density is 564 ppi. The corners of the screen are rounded, but this does not affect the use of the device.

The display is made using IPS technology, and ten-touch multi-touch is built right into the pixel layer (In-Cell Touch). Using IPS means great whites, but not the best blacks - with Always On Display enabled, the screen borders are easily distinguishable. By the way, Always On Display on IPS is generally a big nonsense that sucks out battery power. Viewing angles are perfect, with only slight color shifts under the strongest tilts. Color reproduction is good, which is typical for this type of screen (although the temperature has a slight bias towards the cold). HDR10 and Dolby Vision are supported - if you find content for them, then you are great fellows.

And if LG is doing well with the design and the screen is also cool, then there are enough complaints about ergonomics and the choice of materials. Although, it would seem, the dimensions are more than acceptable (148.9x71.9 mm) and at least the ergonomics should be on top. But no. The volume buttons are placed high. The lock button on the rear panel is not always convenient either. The fingerprint scanner built into it, by the way, recognizes me every other time. But here's what you can't argue with - it's with the fact that the device can be used with one hand, it is not at all huge.

Now about the materials. Both the front and back panels of the smartphone are made of glass, which collects fingerprints well. They are easy to wipe off even without a complete cloth. The glass for the main cameras is separate - and I always thought that this was done in order to protect the camera with more durable glass. But LG did the opposite - it is almost impossible to fray the back panel, but the part with the cameras is covered with scratches very quickly. The assembly is excellent, there is dust and moisture protection according to the IP68 standard (judging by the warranty card, sometimes water ingress into the case is even a warranty case). You can believe in the impact resistance of the LG G6 right up to the moment you drop it and break it. It is the most common, like other glass-metal phones. Of the five G6s I saw without chips, cracks and with a whole camera glass, there was only one device. Our.

Software

The LG G6 is based on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, and will most likely be upgraded to Oreo. The "green robot" is hidden behind the LG UX shell, which causes little sympathy. The general style, the organization of the application menu and many little things in the system return the user almost to the era of Android 4.x. At the same time, I can’t even praise the shell for its wide functionality, I didn’t find any particularly interesting functions in it (except that unlocking Knock Code is a very cool thing). Maybe he didn't notice something. In general, look at the screenshots, we have a lot of them.

Sound

The ESS ES9218+ DAC is responsible for the sound in the smartphone. It's a Hi-Fi Quad solution and LG claims it delivers 50% purer sound than a single DAC. In general, I try to talk about sound from the point of view that it is very individual and a lot depends on what files to listen to, with what headphones. Therefore, everything may seem different to you. And in order to be as objective as possible, I listened to the same songs in the same headphones (the choice fell on the Denon D7200 and Plantronics BackBeat PRO 2) on the LG G6, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Aquaris X Pro and Meizu Pro 7 Plus, in turn changing them. Of course, I would arrange a blind audition in order to exclude the brand factor, but this is somehow later.

In general, LG G6 with Hi-Fi mode (it can be turned off to save energy), I liked its sound more than Aquaris X Pro with ESS Saber ES9118 DAC - the Spaniard plays almost as cleanly, but there is less volume reserve and lower frequencies are recouped less energetic. I liked the Pro 7 Plus with the Cirrus Logic CS43130 DAC more bass, it has noticeably more headroom, but the G6 plays cleaner - for rock, which I respect the most, Meizu would be preferable. Well, the Galaxy Note 8 seemed nothing against the background of the G6. Of course, it has an equalizer, emulation of a tube amplifier, but it just plays dirty and boring. Samsung has improved its flagships in many ways in recent years and it's time to get into audio.

So I praised the phones for the sound, but do not think that they are able to outshine the sound of some cheap Chinese audio player for 10 thousand. Not to mention expensive portable solutions or stationary DACs to listen to music from a PC. The Denon D7200 headphones play with the not-so-expensive Audinst DX1 amp in a way that neither LG nor Meizu can even come close to - they are simply not capable of delivering the same depth of sound, such a headroom and such a width of the stage. All smartphones with DACs are such budget audiophile solutions. Almost all flagships already play plus or minus the same way, for which thanks to Qualcomm and its codec, so don't worry about it and better look for headphones. Ideally wireless. As a person who has a $1,500 hi-fi player, who has expensive denons and beyers, I prefer a bunch of smartphone and Bluetooth headphones for flights. Because it’s convenient without wires, because any smartphone will give a head start in controlling any player, because at an altitude of 10 thousand meters noise reduction decides, and you simply won’t hear any audiophile nuances - I tried, believe me. In general, take high-quality wireless headphones and you will be happy.

Camera

The main camera of the LG G6 is dual. Both modules have a resolution of 13 megapixels and differ not only in the image capture angle, but also in aperture ratio, autofocus (the “width” does not have it). For a standard camera, this is quite a modest 71 degrees, while for a widescreen camera it is as much as 125 degrees. Along with a change in the capture angle, the aperture ratio is expected to change - f / 1.8 for the main camera and f / 2.4 for the “wide”. The proprietary camera application allows you to both shoot in "auto" and adjust the settings for the pictures manually. In this case, the photographer has a histogram and level at his disposal, and you can also highlight the boundaries of objects in focus.

We did not bother with manual mode, because most smartphone buyers are not photographers and prefer to shoot on auto, minimally interfering with the process. In addition, the LG G6 usually turns out to be good in a car. Of course, there are bad shots, but they are minimal. For the most part, LG produces well-detailed shots with calm yet accurate colors, good noise reduction, and well-proportioned lighting. The G6 does not shy away from very bright colors and shooting in low light.

A lot of what I said applies to the wide-angle camera too. Although it certainly shoots a little worse - not so cool detail, distortion, problems with image quality in low light. However, these are all common problems with any wide-angle cameras, and so far no one in the world of smartphones is able to offer a wide-angle shooting quality comparable to the LG G6. And we personally really like the distortion from the “width”, it has a special charm. By the way, you can make collages from pictures on a regular and wide-angle camera, but this is some kind of meaningless function. I don't know why it's needed.

regular camera - wide angle camera

Now let's talk about video. It is recorded on both cameras in 4K resolution (2160p) at a frame rate of 30 fps. Videos can also be written in simple and professional modes; in the second, you can adjust both the picture and sound parameters. There is a windmill (in the absence of wind, turning it on makes the sound recording louder), the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the microphones and some other parameters that mere mortals do not even understand. But even without all this, in normal mode, the LG G6 shoots excellent videos with good detail and stabilization. I am glad to be able to switch between the two cameras right during the shooting (for example, ASUS Zenfone 4 had to turn off the recording to change the camera). In the evening, the quality of shooting video on the "width" falls as expected (remember the aperture ratio?), But the usual camera remains good.

You can shoot panoramas, including 360-degree panoramas, which are then adapted for viewing in a VR helmet. There is a function for shooting short animations, for some reason called clips, slow-mo (saved as 120-fps video) and time-lapses (from x10 to x60). As for the front camera, it uses a 5-megapixel sensor with wide-angle optics (100 degrees). Selfies are sad, at the level of budget smartphones, which is strange, given the advanced main module. Examples above.

Performance and Benchmarks

The biggest compromise LG made with the G6 is hardware. There is no Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which is installed in most of this year's flagships, here is last year's Snapdragon 821. It is complemented by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, of which, after the first inclusion, the user has 2 GB and 51.27 GB, respectively. Then the situation with the available RAM gets worse, now, when I write this text, after "completely clearing" the memory, CPU-Z shows 1.2 GB of free RAM. We have already discussed the situation in games in detail - in order not to repeat ourselves, we will attach a spring video and a link to the text to it.

Well, benchmarks:

Judging by AnTuTu, all these months LG engineers did not sit idly by and somehow tried to deal with throttling. As a result, the result in AnTuTu for three runs does not fall from 153 thousand to 105 thousand, but from 155 thousand to 123 thousand. The scores in GFXBench Manhattan between the regular and long tests also differ less - the drop is not from 1006 to 479.5 frames, but from 1063 to 590.1. The final victory is still very far away (that is, it will not happen), but there is definitely progress. There is also heating, but I did not manage to heat up the LG G6 very much. The smartphone remained such that it could be safely held in the hands.

Battery capacity LG G6 is 3300 mAh. In our traditional video playback test, it lasted 7 hours and 17 minutes, which is not bad for a device with an IPS screen at maximum brightness. The discharge per hour in Asphalt Extreme was 14% - according to G6, this means that the smartphone will last for 5.5 hours, according to mathematics - which is 7-7.5 hours. Probably better than a smartphone. In general, even with the most active use, the LG G6 will last your entire day, and in more measured scenarios, two.
