Muslim prayers

Muslim prayers are the foundation of every believer's life. With their help, any believer maintains contact with the Almighty. The Muslim tradition provides not only obligatory five-fold daily prayers, but also personal appeals to God at any time, through the recitation of dua. For a godly Muslim, praying in both joy and sorrow is a characteristic feature of a righteous life. No matter what difficulties a believer faces, he knows that Allah always remembers him and will protect him if he prays to him and glorifies the Almighty.

The Quran is the holy book of the Muslim people

The Koran is the main book in the Muslim religion, it is the basis of the Muslim faith. The name of the holy book comes from the Arabic word "reading aloud", it can also be translated as "edification". Muslims are very sensitive to the Quran and believe that the holy book is the direct speech of Allah, and it has existed forever. According to the law of Islam, the Koran can only be taken into clean hands.

The faithful believe that the Quran was written down by Muhammad's disciples from the words of the prophet himself. And the transmission of the Koran to believers was carried out through the angel Jabrail. Muhammad received his first revelation when he was 40 years old. After that, for 23 years, he received other revelations at different times and in different places. The latter was received by him in the year of his death. All suras were written down by the companions of the prophet, but for the first time they were collected together after the death of Muhammad - during the reign of the first caliph Abu Bakr.

For some time, Muslims have used separate suras to pray to Allah. Only after Osman became the third caliph, he ordered to systematize separate records and create a single book (644-656). All the suras collected together made up the canonical text of the holy book, which has survived unchanged to this day. The systematization was carried out in the first place, according to the records of the satellite of Muhammad - Zayed. According to legend, it was in this order that the prophet bequeathed the suras to use.

Every Muslim should pray five times during the day:

  • Morning prayer is performed from dawn to sunrise;
  • The midday prayer is performed during the period when the sun is at its zenith until the moment when the length of the shadows reaches their height;
  • The evening prayer is read from the moment when the length of the shadows reaches their height until sunset;
  • Prayer at sunset is performed from sunset to the moment when the evening dawn goes out;
  • Prayers at dusk are read between evening and dawn.

This five-fold prayer is called namaz. In addition, there are other prayers in the Quran that the faithful can recite at any time as needed. Islam offers prayers for all occasions. For example, Muslims often use prayer to repent of sins. Special prayers are read before eating and when leaving the house or entering it.

The Quran consists of 114 chapters, which are revelations from God and are called suras. Each surah includes separate short sayings that reveal an aspect of divine wisdom - ayah. There are 6500 of them in the Qur'an. The second sura is the longest, it has 286 verses. On average, each individual verse contains from 1 to 68 words.

Suras are very diverse in meaning. There are biblical stories, mythological plots and descriptions of certain historical events. The Koran pays great attention to the foundations of Islamic law.

For ease of reading, the holy book is divided as follows:

  • Thirty parts of approximately the same size - juz;
  • Sixty smaller units are Hizb.

To simplify the reading of the Quran during the week, there is also a conditional division into seven manazil.

The Koran, as a sacred scripture of one of the most significant world religions, contains advice and instructions necessary for a believer. The Quran allows everyone to communicate directly with God. But despite this, people sometimes forget what they should do and how they should live correctly. Therefore, the Qur'an prescribes obedience to divine laws and the will of God himself.

How to read Muslim prayers correctly

It is recommended to perform namaz in a place specially designated for prayer. But this condition must be met only if there is such a possibility. Men and women pray separately. If this is not possible, then the woman should not say prayer words out loud so as not to distract the man.

A prerequisite for prayer is ritual purity, therefore, before prayer, ablution is required. The person praying should be dressed in clean clothes and face the Muslim shrine of the Kaaba. He must have a sincere intention to pray.

Muslim prayer is performed on your knees on a special rug. It is in Islam that much attention is paid to the visual design of prayer. For example, while pronouncing sacred words, the feet must be held so that the socks are not pointed in different directions. The arms should be crossed over the chest. It is necessary to bow so that the legs do not bend, and the feet remain straight.

Bowing to the ground should be done as follows:

  • Get on your knees;
  • Bend over;
  • Kiss the floor;
  • Freeze for a certain time in this position.

Any prayer - an appeal to Allah, should sound confident. But at the same time, it should be understood that the solution of all your problems depends on God.

Muslim prayers can only be used by the faithful. But if you need to pray for a Muslim, then you can do it with the help of Orthodox prayer. But it should be remembered that this can only be done at home.

But even in this case, it is necessary to add the words at the end of the prayer:

You need to perform namaz only in Arabic, but all other prayers are allowed to be read in translation.

Below is an example of performing the morning prayer in Arabic and translated into Russian:

  • The praying person turns towards Mecca and begins the prayer with the words: "Allahu Akbar", which in translation means: "Allah is the Greatest." This phrase is called "takbir". After that, the prayer folds his hands on his chest, while the right hand should be on top of the left.
  • Further, the Arabic words "A'uzqu3 bilyahki mina-sshaitani-rrajim" are pronounced, which means "I appeal to Allah for protection from the damned shaitan."
  • Then the surah "Al-Fatiha" is read:

You should know that if any Muslim prayer is read in Russian, then you definitely need to delve into the meaning of the phrases being spoken. It is very useful to listen to audio recordings of Muslim prayers in the original, downloading them for free from the Internet. This will help you learn how to pronounce prayers correctly with the right intonation.

Variants of Arabic prayers

In the Qur'an, Allah says to the faithful: "Call to Me with dua - and I will help you." Dua means "supplication" in translation. And this method is one of the types of worship of Allah. With the help of dua, the faithful appeal to Allah and turn to God with certain requests, both for themselves and for their loved ones. For any Muslim, dua is considered a very powerful weapon. But at the same time, it is very important that any prayer comes from the heart.

Dua from damage and evil eye

Islam completely denies magic, so witchcraft is considered a sin. Dua from damage and the evil eye is perhaps the only way to protect yourself from negativity. It is necessary to read such appeals to Allah at night, from midnight to dawn.

The best place to turn to Allah with dua from corruption and evil eye is the desert. But, it is clear that this is not a prerequisite. This is considered to be so, because in such a place the believer can absolutely retire and no one and nothing will interfere with communication with God. For reading dua from damage and the evil eye, a separate room in the house, into which no one will enter, is quite suitable.

An important condition: this type of dua should only be read if you are sure that you are negatively affected. If you are haunted by minor failures, then you should not pay attention to them, since they can be sent to you from heaven, as retribution for any wrongdoing.

The evil eye and corruption will help to overcome effective dua:

  • The first surah of the Qur'an Al-Fatih, consisting of 7 verses;
  • 112 surah of the Koran Al-Ihlas, consisting of 4 verses;
  • 113 surahs of the Koran Al-Falyak, consisting of 5 verses;
  • 114 surah of the Quran An-Nas.

Conditions for reading dua from damage and the evil eye:

  • The text must be read in the original language;
  • In the hands during the action, one should hold the Koran;
  • During prayer, you need to be in a sound and sober mind, in no case, before you start praying, do not drink alcohol;
  • Thoughts during the prayer ritual should be pure, and the attitude should be positive. You need to give up the desire to take revenge on your offenders;
  • The above suras cannot be reversed;
  • It is necessary to carry out the ritual of getting rid of spoilage at night during the week.

The first surah is revealing. It glorifies God:

The text of the prayer reads as follows:

Surah "Al-Ikhlyas" deals with human sincerity, eternity, as well as the power and superiority of Allah over everything on a sinful earth.

112 surah of the Quran Al-Ikhlas:

The words of the dua are as follows:

In surah "Al-Falyak" the believer asks Allah to bestow the dawn on the whole world, which will become salvation from everything dashing. Prayer words help to get rid of all negativity and drive out evil spirits.

113 surahs of the Quran Al-Falyak:

The words of the prayer are:

Surah "An-Nas" contains prayer words for all people. Saying them, the believer begs for protection from Allah for himself and his relatives.

114 surahs of the Quran An-Nas:

The words of the prayer are as follows:

Dua for home cleansing

In the life of every person, the house takes a significant place. Therefore, housing always needs reliable protection at all levels. There are certain suras in the Qur'an that will allow you to do this.

The Quran contains a very powerful universal prayer-amulet from the Prophet Muhammad, which must be recited in the morning and evening every day. It can be conditionally considered a preventive measure, since it will protect the believer and his house from shaitans and other evil spirits.

Listening to dua for cleansing at home:

In Arabic, the prayer is as follows:

In translation, this prayer sounds like this:

The strongest for protecting the house is considered to be ayah 255 "Al-Kursi" of Surah "Al-Bakara". His text has a deep meaning with a mystical orientation. In this verse, in accessible words, the Lord tells people about Himself, he indicates that He cannot be compared with anything, and with anyone in the world he created. Reading this verse, a person reflects on its meaning and comprehends its meaning. When pronouncing prayer words, the believer's heart is filled with sincere conviction and faith that Allah will help him resist the evil intrigues of Satan and protect his home.

The words of the prayer are as follows:

Translation into Russian sounds like this:

Muslim prayer for good luck

The Quran contains a lot of suras that are used as prayers for good luck. They can be used every day. In this way, you can protect yourself from all sorts of everyday troubles. There is a sign that you should cover your mouth during a yawn. Otherwise, the shaitan can penetrate you and begin to harm you. In addition, one should remember the advice of the Prophet Muhammad - in order for adversity to bypass a person, you need to keep your own body in ritual purity. It is believed that a pure person is protected by an Angel and asks for mercy from Allah.

Before reading the next prayer, it is imperative to carry out a ritual ablution.

The text of the prayer in Arabic reads as follows:

This prayer will help you cope with any difficulties and will bring good luck into the life of the believer.

Its text, translated into Russian, reads as follows:

You can choose suras from the Koran according to their content, listening to your own intuition. It is important to pray in full concentration, realizing that the will of Allah must be obeyed.

We bow our knees only before You

And only we appeal to You for help:

“Guide us on a straight path,

What have you chosen for those who are gifted by your mercy,

If something good has been done to you, Islam commands you to respond with a wish for good.

In the Holy Qur'an, Allah Allah rhetorically asks:

"Is goodness rewarded differently than good?"(Quran, 55:60)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“He does not thank Allah who does not thank people” (Abu Daud, Tirmidhi).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“The one who was given [something] as a gift, if he found to give [something from the property], let him give (as a token of gratitude), and if not [did not find or cannot give], then let him praise this person, and it will be gratitude, and whoever hid it, he showed ingratitude "(Tirmidhi)

Therefore, it is necessary to try to respond to a good deed with a gift, reciprocal courtesy, or service. But sometimes it happens that there is no way to answer a person in the same way - in such cases, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) calls to make dua for this person:

“Reward the one who will do you good, and if you don’t find something to reward him with, then turn to Allah with prayers for such a person until you see that you have already thanked him” (Abu Dawood)

One of these dua is "jakallahu hayran", which means "may Allah reward you with good."

It is narrated from Osama Ibn Zayed (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“(If) the one to whom they do good will say to the one who did it:“ May Allah reward you with good! (Jaza-ka-Llahu hayran!), Then he will express his gratitude very beautifully ”(Tirmidhi).

No one rewards better than Allah (Praise be to Him), so we ask Him to reward the person who has done us good, and we must use the best words for this - this is a really wonderful way to show our gratitude.

An illustrative example of how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used this prayer is given by Ibn Hibban in his Saheeh, as well as Ibn Abu Shaybah in Musannaf.

The Sahabs also used to say "jazak Allahu hayran".

Usayd ibn Khudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to ‘Aisha:

“May Allah reward you with good! By Allah, something does not happen to you that is unpleasant for you, except as Allah does good for you and the Muslims ”(Bukhari)

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“I was present next to my father when he was smitten. They said good things about him and said: "May Allah reward you with good!" And he said: "I desire (the mercy of Allah), and I fear (His wrath)" "(Muslim).

Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“If you knew how blessed are the words“ Jazak Allahu Hayran ”addressed to your brother, you would more often say them to each other” (Ibn Abu Shaybah).

Muhaddith Sheikh Muhammad Abasoomer said: "We could not find a hadith in which there was only JazakAllahu (without Khayran)."

Thus, it is better to say "jazakAllahu hayran", as the hadith says, but simply "jazakAllahu" is also acceptable, since Arabic - like any other language - allows some words to be omitted (there are unwritten rules known to everyone). Therefore, when we say “May Allah reward you” (jazak Allah), we mean reward with good (hayran).

Answer to "jazakAllahu hayran"

From the above it is clear that the wish "jazak Allahu hayran" is an answer in itself, therefore it does not require any answer.

Sheikh Muhammad Abasumer said:

“I have never come across an answer in hadith. Sometimes they say "amen" (so be it) or "wa iyak" (and you). Both answers are logical, and there is nothing wrong with using them. However, this is not proven by the hadiths, so such answers cannot be considered Sunnah. "

Unfortunately, it happens that the answers "amen" and "wa iyak" are given more importance than they deserve according to sharia. Some, having wished someone "jazak Allahu hayran", wait for an answer, just as they wait for "alhamdulillah" after sneezing. Meanwhile, one should not consider that the answer to "jazakAllahu hayran" is obligatory.

Sometimes they quote a hadith from Ibn Hibban's Sahih, which contains the words: Wa antum fa jazakAllahu hayran. According to Sheikh Abasumer, this is a delusion.

"This is because when the Sahab, may Allah be pleased with him, said to the Messenger, peace be upon him," jazakAllahu hayran ", the Messenger, peace be upon him, answered" Wa antum fa jazakAllahu hayran "(rather, you deserve the words" jazakallahu hayran " ) and further the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) began to extol the virtues of this Ansara.

In fact, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, meant: "It is I who should thank you, not you."

This explains why the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, responded in this way. This does not mean that wa antum fa jazakAllahu hayran is the standard answer to this dua. "

Another hadith that can give the impression that there is a Masnun answer (prescribed by the Sunnah) to "Jazak Allahu Hayran" is a hadith from the collection of Imam Nasai "Amal ul-yaum wal-lail", it reads:

When the Prophet, peace be upon him, was given a sheep, he told Aisha, may Allah be pleased with it, so that the animal would be slaughtered and its meat would be distributed. Then Aisha told the servant to do it. When the servant returned, Aisha asked what they said to him, he replied: "May Allah bless you." Then Aisha said: "God bless you too." Then she continued, "We made them the same dua as they did, and we still have the reward for the sadaqa."

This hadith cannot be used as proof of the need for an answer to "jazakAllahu hayran" for several reasons.

If the answer were necessary, then this would cause an endless series of replies, since the person, having heard the answer, would have to answer, and the interlocutor, in turn, also would not have to remain in debt, and so on ad infinitum. Moreover, the answer of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) sounded in the absence of those who said "may Allah bless you."

There are other reliable examples of the Sahaba saying "jazak Allahu hayran", but, as Sheikh Muhammad points out, there is not a single message that they answered something like that. And not a single hadith is known in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them any answer.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that the words "jazakAllahu hayran" are already in themselves an answer to someone's good, therefore there is no sense in further exchange of wishes.

Note that it is permissible to use the translation "jazakAllahu hayran" - "may Allah reward you with good" / "may Allah reward you with good".

Muslims all over the world try to live according to the Sunnah - the rules and norms followed by the Prophet (s.a.s.), that is, to perform godly deeds. One of them is to thank a person if he did something good to you, and say at the same time: "Jazaka Allahu Khairan". What does this expression mean and why do Muslims use words from the Arabic language in their speech, not being native Arabs?

Why is Arabic so important to Muslims?

The emergence of Islam as a religion occurred among the Arab tribes, and therefore Arabic became the language of worship, like Latin for Catholic Christians and Church Slavonic for Orthodox Christians. This means that each religion has its own language, which is its distinctive feature and allows it to be separated from other religions. In Islam, the main worship service that requires knowledge of the Arabic language is namaz, a fivefold prayer performed by all people who have reached a certain age, and adhan, a call to prayer. Why?

  • Reading namaz in Arabic makes it possible to unite Muslims around the world: they all perform the prayer as prescribed by the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.).
  • The Arabic language in the adhan allows you to recognize the call to prayer anywhere in the world and not to miss it, as it is considered a sin.

The words of namaz are suras from the Koran, and Allah in the Holy Book says that he will keep this Scripture unchanged until the Day of Judgment, and therefore it has been preserved in its original form, since it is forbidden to edit something.

Thus, the Arabic language has 2 important functions:

  • keeping religion and scriptures unchanged;
  • unite all Muslims in the world into a single whole.

This explains the importance of the Arabic language.

What does "JazakaAllahu Hayran" mean?

Understanding the value of the Arabic language for Muslims and the desire to follow the actions of the Prophet Muhammad (s. A. C.), One can easily explain their use in everyday life of non-ritual words and expressions in this language, such as "Bismillah", "Subhan Allah" or "Jazaka Allahu hayran" ...

In Arabic, these words have a great meaning, and Muslims believe that their use is considered a good deed, for which the Almighty gives a reward. Therefore, at any opportunity, they try to pronounce them.

What does "JazakaAllahu Hayran" mean? This expression is translated as “May Allah reward you with good!” Or “May Allah reward you with good!”, Or “May Allah reward you with good”. It is a popular phrase for expressing gratitude, identical to the Russian “thank you” or “thank you”. This form of treatment is acceptable for men.

If they express gratitude to a woman, then they say "JazakiLlyahi hayran", and if to several people - then "Jazakumu Allahu hayran". It is allowed to reduce expressions to the words "JazakaAllahu khair" (JazakiLlyakhi / Jazakumullahu khair), as well as use without the word "khair".

Sometimes Muslims use these words in writing, and here one important point arises - in Arabic, some words change their meaning to the opposite if their spelling is changed. Therefore, it is important to know how "JazakaAllahu Hayran" is spelled in Russian letters and with the exact transcription in Cyrillic - a continuous spelling and necessarily the name of the Almighty with a capital letter. Two other variants are also possible - "Jaza ka Llahu hayran" and "Jaza-ka-Llahu hayran".

What should a Muslim answer if he was told these words?

Gratitude in response to a favor or nice words is a sign of politeness, which is also sunnah. Therefore, if a Muslim was told the words "JazakaAllahu Hayran", then the same answer should be given in accordance with the gender of the person and the number of people. There is also a short answer, similar to the Russian “Mutually”, it is pronounced like “Va yaki” or “Va yaki”. Another, less common form of response is the form: "Wa antum fa jazakallahu hayran", which translates as "It is I who should thank you, not you." This form, like the previous ones, varies in gender and number. There is a hadith indicating a form of gratitude that can also be used - this is “Amal ul-yaum wal-layil”, which translates as “May Allah bless you. "

The importance of pronunciation of the words "JazakaAllahu hayran"

There are many examples in the Qur'an where it is said about the importance of saying words of gratitude in response to a service or pleasant words. An example of a verse from Surah Ar-Rahman about the importance of gratitude reads: “Is goodness rewarded differently than good?” : "May Allah reward you with good! (JazakaAllahu hayran!)" - then he will express his gratitude very beautifully. "

What expressions can Muslims speak to each other?

In addition to expressing gratitude, Muslims use the following expressions in everyday life:

  • "Alhamdulillah" (praise be to Allah!) - is said to praise something or someone, as well as the answer to the question "how are you?"
  • "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah!) Are the words with which Muslims precede every action.
  • "Insha'Allah" (by the will of Allah / if the will of Allah / if Allah wishes) are the words that are used when telling about future plans and intentions.
  • "Astagfiru Allah" (may Allah forgive) are the words that are uttered if a person unknowingly made a mistake or sin, understood it, decided to correct it and asks for forgiveness first of all from the Almighty.
