How a men's sweater should fit. How to choose a sweater: valuable tips and little secrets. How to choose a fashionable and practical sweater

It is believed that this piece of men's wardrobe owes its name, as well as its origin, entirely to divers. It was they who needed a thin, and at the same time warm, sweater that would warm well while working at depth. And did not cause discomfort in a sufficiently tight outfit. So, in fact, the turtleneck appeared.

As often happens, the merits of new clothes were fully appreciated not only by those to whom they were intended in the first place. To begin with, motorcycle racers began to use it with pleasure. Then - racers. A little later - the soldiers. And finally, the turtleneck has become an integral part of the modern man's wardrobe.

Of course, during all this time, the new clothes did not remain unchanged. Sensing the growing interest in it, fashion designers tried to diversify the range of products. Like experimenting with patterns. And due to the use of a wide range of patterns and color shades. In addition, the range of materials used for sewing turtlenecks was gradually expanded.

As a result, men today have something to think about when choosing a turtleneck. It goes without saying that the basis of the choice should be the size that you need. Besides, the material matters. The style and color scheme can also not always be considered universal.

For winter - some, and for summer - others.

No matter how one considers a turtleneck to be a universal item of a man's wardrobe, there is a noticeable difference between its winter and summer varieties. In summer sunny weather, a cotton turtleneck will be in demand. But in the fall or winter, you practically won't need it.

For the autumn season, a men's turtleneck made from a mixture of cotton and silk, or viscose or tackle will be more comfortable. Which, with the onset of cold weather, is better to replace with a turtleneck made of fine merino wool. Its counterparts, made from fabrics in which wool is present in a mixture with cotton or artificial fiber, will also be in demand.

But cashmere turtlenecks are in greatest demand in winter. These models captivate with a successful combination of seemingly incompatible qualities. They are thin, and absolutely do not hinder your movements. At the same time, they are very warm. And they may well compete with a thick sweater or cardigan.

Here, however, one more circumstance must be taken into account. How willing are you to take care of your clothes? Keep in mind that pure cotton will require ironing after every wash. It is easier in this regard with viscose turtlenecks. But they have another problem - they quickly lose their attractive appearance. In the process of wearing, they tend to stretch out and become covered with pellets.

Seamless microfiber patterns are completely devoid of this drawback. Moreover, they do not crumple during operation and do not lose their shape. In winter, however, you will be cold in them. But in the spring and autumn - just right.

A sense of proportion is important

And yet, despite the rather great versatility of turtlenecks, it is worth considering which one you can choose for an official event, and which one for a regular walk in the park. A wide range of colors of manufactured products opens up a wide range of choices. It is only important to adhere to a sense of proportion.

Strictly speaking, a turtleneck is inappropriate for formal receptions. But it is quite possible to wear it when going to work in the office. It is only important to choose a classic style model. And the best of all is plain. You will look especially irresistible in trendy and stylish turtlenecks from famous fashion designers.

In these cases, it is usually customary to combine a turtleneck with a jacket or jumper. Be sure to pay attention to the length of her sleeves. Unlike a shirt, the sleeve of a turtleneck should not protrude from the sleeve of a jumper or jacket.

And in no case choose turtlenecks with a bright pattern for business meetings. They are much more appropriate for socializing with friends, romantic walks in parks and squares, as well as for out-of-town trips and picnics.

In general, when choosing a turtleneck, you need to carefully select its color and pattern. Learning to put together the right turtleneck ensembles will make you comfortable in almost any setting. Depending on the model, a turtleneck can replace your everyday jersey shirt, a formal office shirt or a warm winter sweater.

And, of course, clothes must be tailored to the figure. For men who are too fat, it is generally not recommended to wear turtlenecks. In the event that you are not the owner of cute abs cubes on your stomach, it is better to choose a looser turtleneck model. Slim fit for those who can be proud of their figure.

Avoid mistakes

Few men can choose the right turtleneck for their size. Not otherwise, as in search of additional comfort, they most often choose overly loose clothing. As a result, the oversized long and spacious turtleneck behaves like a sail on the street. Needless to say, how does its owner look like?

The second mistake that men often make when choosing a turtleneck is provoked by their lack of taste. In this case, the attention of the buyer is attracted by bright colors and contrasting patterns. Such a turtleneck is, of course, most often original and beautiful. Only with what are you going to wear it? Not with a classic jacket and trousers?

By the way, there are usually problems with combining styles. At first, the person rejoices. After all, his purchase was fashionable this year and stylish turtleneck Stone Island... And then she suffers, unable to pick up a worthy ensemble for her from her wardrobe. In order not to get into a similar situation, try to listen to the advice of fashion designers.

This year, for example, they propose a versatile combination of a black turtleneck with classic blue jeans for every day. In this case, additional accessories will look organic. Like, say, black smooth leather loafers. A chrome watch on a simple bracelet will also help to emphasize the expressiveness of your look. Such a set of clothes will be appropriate for a friendly party or at home. In principle, it can be used in the office as well, if your company does not have a strict dress code.

A single-breasted jacket can be added to the specified set. Especially if your figure does not differ in athletic build. A tight fit will help you hide your emerging belly and widen your shoulders. Please note that the jacket should be chosen a little more loose. And then it will ideally fit into the general informal ensemble of your clothes.

Choosing clothes for your figure is a well-known and actual problem for most people. Not only do you need to choose the right color, choose a style, but you also need to deal with dimensional grids.

Here you need to buy a jacket. When you come to a store or order clothes on the Internet, you, one way or another, come across European, Russian, American and international standards. In order not to get lost in the variety of numbers and letters, we suggest that you determine your Russian sweater size, and then, according to the table of men's sweater sizes, calculate the corresponding international values.

How to measure men's sweater sizes?

The sizes of sweaters and men's sweaters are calculated in the same way. In order to determine yours, you need to take a tape measure or a measuring tape, and then measure your chest. Please note that you need to take measurements at the most protruding places, and the tape should be parallel to the floor.

Then you need to halve the result. For example, if your chest girth is 94 centimeters, then 94: 2 = 47. The resulting number will correspond to your size. Did you get a fractional number? Look at the adjacent numbers in the men's sweater size chart.

Look carefully at the size of the sweater - the item should fit. Even if you want to look more respectable, it is still better to choose a sweater in your size, since in an unsuitable thing your appearance will be baggy and far from perfect.

Evaluate your wardrobe and decide what kind of things you are going with your favorite sweater. Although he is in the wardrobe with literally any things: suits, skirts and trousers, and leggings, as well as sportswear, there may be some nuances in the thickness of the knit, texture and style.

When buying a sweater, pay attention to the absence of various dropped loops and protruding threads, the sweater should have well-finished seams and the product should sit straight.

Decide before buying and the question of the color of your future sweater. We can safely say that the universal color of a sweater is black, as in other clothes. Sweaters of coffee, steel, brown colors also look great. Shades of burgundy and dark blue and beige are trendy this season. Lovers of light sweaters can opt for milky and ivory sweaters.

Look carefully at the composition of the material indicated on the product label. Now, thanks to modern technologies for making threads, synthetic fiber is often woven into natural wool. It is also quite practical in its properties, but if you are buying a sweater for winter and very cold weather, then you should not buy sweaters with synthetic thread.

The more natural the material of the sweater, the fewer problems you will have when wearing it, and the longer you can feel comfortable in cold weather. It is believed that if a sweater contains a lot of synthetic fibers, then it has a lower quality than a pure wool sweater, because the main purpose of a sweater is to warm in the cold.

Pay attention to the lambswool sweaters that keep you warm on a cool day and don't create a “greenhouse” effect on your body. Very lightweight and wearable cashmere sweaters. Cashmere is pleasant to the touch, fits perfectly and is comfortable for travel and outdoor activities. Cashmere sweaters are extremely popular with people who value comfort and warmth.

Take a closer look at the Angora wool sweaters. They have softness and an amazing ability to warm, however, such a sweater can be worn for a short time: an angora thing “rolls down” rather quickly and is abraded in places of its friction with the lining of outerwear. Therefore, angora wool sweaters are usually chosen when winter sports are planned, because such things keep warm well.

Also keep in mind that for winter it is preferable to have a sweater with a turtleneck and sufficient length. Girls should not wear short sweaters in winter for reasons of women's health.

  • how to choose a men's sweater

A high-quality turtleneck is an excellent purchase, irreplaceable in a men's wardrobe. Depending on the model, it can replace an informal jersey shirt, office shirt or even a warm sweater. Learn to put together the right turtleneck ensembles and you'll always be comfortable.

Instructions

Choose the right model. For the warm season, turtlenecks made from a mixture of cotton with silk, viscose or tackle are suitable. These fabrics are hygroscopic, flexible and keep their shape well. Pure cotton must be ironed after every wash. Viscose turtlenecks are cheap, but they are usually too thin and quickly lose their attractive appearance, stretching and becoming pilling.

For winter, buy turtlenecks made from fine merino wool mixed with cotton or man-made fibers. But cashmere models look best. They are thin but very warm and can replace a thick sweater or cardigan.

When choosing a color, pay attention to models of complex shades - dark blue, gray-blue, mustard, marsh green. The natural range from ecru to dark chocolate looks very elegant. And, of course, you must include at least one black turtleneck in your wardrobe. Adults should avoid bright aniline tones. These colors are more suitable for children and.

A versatile combination for every day - a black turtleneck, complemented by classic blue jeans. Black smooth leather loafers and a chrome watch on a simple bracelet can be used as accessories. In such clothes, you will be comfortable at home, at a party, and even in the office without a strict dress code.

Jeans and a sweatshirt can be complemented with a single-breasted jacket in the color of a turtleneck. If you do not have an athletic physique, this option will be optimal. The tight cut of the jacket will widen the shoulders and hide the emerging belly. Choose blazers with a loose, slightly baggy cut - they will fit well into the overall informal ensemble.

Pair a soft cashmere turtleneck with an oversized wool cardigan. Choose items that are natural, such as dark brown and camel. Try on the resulting two with loose-fitting woolen trousers and discreet moccasins - you get a very colorful image of a gentleman on vacation.

Colored turtlenecks fit well into summer ensembles. For example, a multi-colored pinstripe model can be worn with navy or beige cotton trousers and a nautical-style blazer. Tuck the sleeves so that the cuffs of the turtleneck are visible. For extra effect, place a casually folded bandana in your breast pocket.

Garment for thoroughbred men

A turtleneck is essentially a sweater with a throat. She first appeared on the catwalks in 1959 and immediately made a splash. Only negative. This wardrobe item has experienced periods of popularity and lull. In recent years, due to the rethinking of the classics, the turtleneck is on the rise again.

Popularization of the turtleneck

It's hard to believe, but it was because of the turtleneck that the famous Pierre Cardin was kicked out of the syndicate. He supported the active introduction of this clothing into the men's wardrobe and in every possible way tried to popularize it. To this day, turtlenecks of various styles occupy leading positions in the collections of the French fashion designer. These are casual clothes suitable for everyday life.

Turtlenecks, created from a combination of several types of white fabrics, took a special place in Cardin's collections. It is convenient to wear them for a business meeting, romantic dinner, anywhere. For many, it will be interesting that a white turtleneck looks better with jeans. She can already be considered a festive outfit.

Material, color, possibilities of combining winter models

First of all, in a turtleneck, the material from which it is made is important. Remember that only the owner of the ideal figure can afford to wear a cheap sweater with a throat. And then you shouldn't do it. Cashmere and silk are considered the best combination of fabrics.

This, first of all, determines its so-called "wear". In addition, there are two options for this type of clothing: summer and winter. The summer turtleneck can be made of cotton and viscose, and the winter one is made of wool. In this case, the latter can perfectly warm in cold winter.

These are Karl Langerfeld's turtlenecks this season. His sweaters, like Cardin's, have a loose fit for the most part. The color combination is interesting, as the German menswear designer offers striped models. The most popular was the white-brown-black combination. It is worth saying that this combination turned out to be especially successful for the winter insulated version.

Natural fabrics and bright colors in summer

For fall / winter, wear short-sleeved turtlenecks with dress pants and jeans. It is a misconception that this wardrobe item is not suitable for a business style. A turtleneck is a great substitute for a shirt or jumper. Just remember that this type of viscose clothing should not be worn with trousers made of fabric that have a "low tint", since viscose itself has a characteristic shine.

As always, I was delighted with the spring-summer collection from Strellson. In the urban style for men, the designer added several models of light turtlenecks in bright colors: red, light blue, bright blue. An interesting design find was the edging made of material of a different quality in a darker tone along the sleeves and the belt. Such models are intended to be worn only over trousers: from classics to modern jeans. It is appropriate to wear such a sweater with a suede jacket of the most daring style and sneakers. The presented models are perfect for a leather summer jacket.

The classic of the genre of all ages has been and will remain a black turtleneck - a universal wardrobe item. It can be worn with anything: under a jacket, pullover, over trousers, or tucked into them.

What not to wear a turtleneck with, what to make accents on

Despite the democratic nature of this type of clothing, there are still unsuitable combinations even for her. Never wear a turtleneck under a we are from the late 90s shirt. This is perhaps the only unacceptable combination for her - it looks cheap and tasteless.

Turtleneck, badlon, golf - all these are the names of one piece of clothing that can be safely attributed to the category of irreplaceable things. The classic men's turtleneck can complement almost any look, although this item of clothing is most often used in casual and casual business looks.

Despite the fact that men's fashion is very conservative, designers offer different versions of turtlenecks. They experiment with patterns, materials and colors.

A turtleneck is an all-season wardrobe, but you should choose different models for summer and winter. In summer, cotton models with short sleeves are most comfortable. They are very breathable, so they are comfortable in such clothes in the heat. But in cold weather, you should choose other options.

For a cool hike, choose a blend of fabrics such as cotton and viscose. Such models are very practical, they practically do not wrinkle, unlike pure cotton ones, and do not become covered with spools, like models made of 100% artificial threads.

In winter, men's woolen turtlenecks are in demand; the knitted fabric used for sewing includes wool of merino sheep. But the best option is a cashmere turtleneck, it is quite thin, but very warm model. It will warm you no worse than a fat one.

Models

The styles of men's turtlenecks are not very diverse, but you can still distinguish several varieties of this clothing:

  • tight-fitting, sewn from thin jersey;
  • semi-adjacent models from a denser material;
  • models with short sleeves;
  • turtlenecks with a throat, that is, with a high stand-up collar;
  • knitted turtleneck for men - this is a model exclusively for wearing in your free time, rather thin threads are used for knitting, and the simplest patterns.

How to choose?

You need to choose a turtleneck taking into account the characteristics of your figure. Guys with an athletic build are advised to choose models that fit the body tightly. They will look especially stylish in these turtlenecks.

But if the physique is too thin or, on the contrary, there is a protruding tummy, then tight sweaters should be avoided. The turtleneck should be of a semi-adjacent silhouette, it should not be tight, but at the same time, it should not hang in a bag.

Colors

The most popular option is a black men's turtleneck. This model fits well into everyday ensembles and business-casual bows. But this is not the only color option.

Practically the style is the same versatile white turtleneck. Men do not like white things too much because of their impracticality, and completely in vain! The white turtleneck goes well with things of different colors, especially, it fits well into summer sets.

Other discreet colors are quite popular. A gray turtleneck of any shade will successfully complement your wardrobe. So, the summer model can be light gray, and for the autumn-winter look, you can choose a gray item of a darker shade of this neutral color.

Almost as versatile is the dark blue turtleneck. And you can use other colors to create free style images. Now gray-green, dark crimson, burgundy are especially popular. Men who are not afraid to wear bright colors can get themselves a red, blue or orange turtleneck.

Admit it, you would also like such a sweater for yourself. Even for fun - to wear only on holidays or for autumn outings. You look at the catalog - and there are so many eyes that diverge: with a high neckline and with a V-shaped one, with a large pattern and into a small star, female or male. That's just the appearance - it's not at all what you need to look at, if you want to give a sweater that will not come apart after the first wash, will not pay off in a week and will be able to warm you at least a little. Therefore, we are not looking at the drawing, but at the label.

Fabric structure

For winter, the best option is to choose a woolen sweater or a sweater with a slight admixture of synthetic threads. It sounds simple, but in practice it is hyper complex. Why? Because the word "wool" is understood as a minimum of 6 types of thread made from wool of different animals, and each such thread will not only look different, but also behave when worn too.

The composition of a good quality sweater is at least 70% wool. As for impurities, it is desirable that there are no more than 30% of them. But you also have to suffer with synthetics: elastane and viscose, for example, give the sweater softness and plasticity, and polyester and acrylic will make it a bit harsh.

6 varieties of wool

Regular sheep's wool Is an excellent material labeled as Wool. Unlike synthetics, sheep wool products do not melt when in contact with hot objects, it is an environmentally friendly material that holds its shape well and does not fade (if dyed according to technology).

Merino wool gives the thread a slight sheen, very soft to the touch, has excellent breathability along with excellent ability to retain heat. Merino wool is initially white in color, and therefore easily dyed in any suitable color. Merino wool sweaters are durable and pleasant to the body even after a few years. It is believed that merino wool is better than regular wool thread.

Sheep wool of the first sheared(lambswool) is the best material in terms of quality and heating characteristics. To obtain such a thread, sheep that have reached the age of 7 months are sheared. Such sheep wool is incredibly soft, smooth, elastic and resilient. The material is almost silky to the touch, and therefore very pleasant to wear (there will be no "tingling" typical for coarse wool). Of all woolen fabrics, this one is the most hypoallergenic, dust mites are also not afraid of such wool, therefore wonderful bedding is often made from it.

If you delve deeper into the composition of sweater fabrics, or suddenly the catalog of an online store allows you to choose a product according to such meticulous characteristics, keep in mind: there is a whole gradation of the quality of sheep wool (from Virgin Wool - wool of the first sheared and ending with Boiled Wool - boiled wool).

Cashmere has not so good warming properties, although it belongs to woolen threads. But it is very much appreciated for the softness attached to the product. Cashmere sweaters are perhaps the most expensive of all, because the production of natural cashmere requires a soft goat undercoat. And the right goats of such material can produce only a few ounces per year (1 ounce - 28.3 grams). Hence the price.

Alpaca- material that came from South America. It is similar in softness to cashmere, but warmer than it. Also, alpaca sweaters weigh less than counterparts made from ordinary sheep wool. Due to its unique properties, alpaca wool is used in the production of not so much gift sweaters as sportswear. And such a sweater will have a barely noticeable pleasant sheen and will last for many years - alpaca products are quite difficult to deform when washed or worn.

Mohair- light wool, easily dyed. Mohair is pleasant to the touch, soft, used in the production of expensive sweaters, dresses and scarves. A mohair sweater will also keep its shape for a long time.

And then there is the super-warm, but rough camel's wool and super soft and super expensive angora- rabbit hair. Well, are you already confused?

The advantages of real wool sweaters are obvious:

  1. Quality wool repels moisture on the outer surface of the product.
  2. Wool quickly removes moisture from the body, which is especially important in the cold season - you sweat, but there is no feeling of a “wet back”.
  3. Wool retains heat better than any other material not only on the body, but also in the thing itself, because warm air is trapped in the tiny air spaces between the filaments.
  4. Wool "breathes" and adjusts to the ambient temperature, i.e. You can wear a woolen sweater not only at -40 Celsius, but also at +10 degrees with the same degree of comfort.
  5. The wool is resistant to odors. This is the scourge of almost every synthetic fabric - they, like a sponge, absorb body odor or room odor, if left in it for long enough. There is no such problem with wool sweaters.

How to choose a sweater: non-wool, but also natural sweaters

In addition to wool, from natural materials that are often used in the production of sweaters, it is imperative to mention cotton, linen, and partly silk. Of course, you won't get warmth from such sweaters, but in an office with good heating or under a jacket, they are what you need!

Cotton(aka cotton) holds its shape perfectly, is perfectly washed and does not lose color for a long time, linen sweaters(linen) - lungs, excellently conduct air, allowing the skin to "breathe", however, they wrinkle quickly. By the way, when you try it on for the first time, a sweater made with the addition of linen threads may seem rough, but you are in no hurry to put it back on the shelf - this is a feature of the material. The sweater will become softer and more pliable with each wash. Why are linen threads good? They are hypoallergenic and have a pleasant natural sheen, and are also very smooth.

The least common, perhaps, in the production of sweaters is used silk... Even to the ear it is somehow uncomfortable: "silk" and "sweater". They do not make 100% silk winter products - such threads are added to make the sweater soft and natural to the knit. And silk, by the way, is absorbent, i.e. it doesn’t warm, but attracts coolness, so it’s better not to wear such light sweaters when it’s a minus outside.

Unnatural materials

If it is worth choosing which sweater to choose - expensive and woolen or just as colorful, but made of acrylic, many opt for the latter. Just because acrylic sweaters are like an epidemic - every low-cost brand sells them, and few people think about what the fabric consists of when buying. Plus, acrylic sweaters are significantly cheaper than woolen ones. Yes, and people are afraid to buy something woolen, because they are frightened by myths about the horrors of washing and barbs of socks.

Forget about prickly hair altogether. These socks, knitted by your grandmother from a loose sweater from her youth, will be pricked. A high-quality modern wool sweater is not. Moreover, if you choose merino or angora.

Why are we so against acrylic? Oh, friends, the reasons for this are the carriage and the small cart. Here are the main ones:

  1. Acrylic is not able to keep its shape and color. Consider the money wasted - after the third wash, the item will lose its presentation.
  2. It is more difficult to remove stains from acrylic.
  3. Acrylic does not heat. Generally. This material does not have any warming properties.
  4. Acrylic collects odors, so it will not be possible to put off washing an acrylic sweater for a long time to avoid the consequences from point 1.
  5. Adding acrylic will make the sweater stiff.

On the occasion of point 3, the sight of winter hats, scarves and acrylic mittens generally causes hysterical laughter: how can acrylic gloves help me in cold weather if they are not able to keep warm?

Why is there so much acrylic on the market? It is produced in tons for a penny value and sold for a penny - people are very eager to bite into the latter.

Would you like to choose a warm sweater? Then you are definitely only in woolen catalogs, acrylic should be avoided. But if you are looking for an option, and not things for every day, then you can choose something here too.

A little practice: how to choose a sweater by fabric composition

In order to finally understand how to choose the right sweater in terms of composition, let's look at the tags and decide whether such a thing suits us or not. Before you are two tags - this is, consider, at the same time the "passport" of the product and a brief instruction for use. On the one hand, we see what the sweater is made of, and on the other, in what mode, what and at what temperature to wash, how to iron, dry and store.

News to you, why do we need these white labels at all? Oh, congratulations, you've just discovered America! The label is exactly what you really need to choose a sweater for.

Let's go back to the sweaters. Which one would you choose? As you can see, unnatural threads are fluffy, and wool is not always a fancy monster. But the secret is in the composition - an excellent cashmere sweater does not look like a shepherd's, but 93% of acrylic in the composition of another model should subtly hint that this thing has nothing to do in your wardrobe.

Without a twinge of conscience, I ask "phone number" from unfamiliar guys and girls. In order to check whether the lock button fits comfortably under the finger and whether autofocus works quickly :) I would like to visit MWC and keep a live blog from the thick of things.
