There is an opinion in our country that one cannot enter a medical school without a bribe. Is this the truth or an excuse for losers?

Of course, medicine is a prestigious area. Many applicants aspire to become doctors. For successful admission, you need to score at least 90 points in each of the three subjects - chemistry, biology and Russian.

There are also those who, not wanting to strain, open doors in front of them with a ruble.
It makes no sense to talk about what kind of "doctors" these candy kids will become. God forbid you and your loved ones to get on the table with such a surgeon!

However, this is not about that. I'll tell you how I myself entered the Ivan Pavlov First Medical University - without a bribe, without cronyism and connections. It was 1993. And just like now, then they said that it was impossible to do without a bribe, that there were no vacancies and everything had been scheduled a long time ago, and the entrance exams were an empty formality.

There was no USE at that time, the exams were conducted by the institutes themselves. However, this did not change the essence. It was necessary to be well versed in biology and chemistry, and also to write an essay on the "5".

I graduated from school with a gold medal and had the right, having passed only one exam with excellent marks, to enter the coveted medical school. The difficulty was that no one knew in advance which exam would be the first - chemistry, biology or essay. The applicants were divided into groups according to incomprehensible signs that could not be calculated, and lists were posted the day before the exams.

Thus, on the appointed day, some applicants took biology orally, others wrote a test in chemistry, and still others - an essay. So I had to prepare in all subjects at once.

I knew chemistry very well, because there were Olympiads, and encyclopedias, and heightened interest. I solved collections of problems up and down. I bought all the manuals and additional literature a year ago at the admissions office of First Honey. The stronger was my fear about which exam would fall out.

I also knew biology very well, but still not as well as chemistry.
As for the composition, I was confident in myself, since I wrote poetry and had excellent literacy. The only weak point is that I did not consider it necessary to read all the works of the school curriculum. Many of the literary heroes were never interesting to me, and therefore their names and role in the plot of the work faded from my memory. It was necessary to refresh everything! I prayed earnestly, was nervous and every day crammed: from 9 am to 2 pm - chemistry, from 2 pm to 7 pm - biology, and from 7 pm to midnight - literature.

Finally, the lists were posted. On trembling legs, I walked up to the board, which was crowded with excited applicants. I had to take chemotherapy.

It was a real luck for the tortured excellent pupil. I noticed long ago that not everyone is lucky, but only those who work a lot. Those who plow are systematically lucky.

There is also an interesting phenomenon: those who know nothing, and those who know a lot, are very worried. If you don’t know a fig, or rather, quite a bit, then you very much hope for fate, Providence, God. What if they come down to you, and you will pull out the only ticket that you have learned? Or, by some miracle, can you choose the correct answers in the tests?

The second category of those who are worried are excellent students and cramps. They know a lot, but not everything. And when they get an unfortunate ticket that they did not have time to repeat, this is a real bummer, panic, a feeling of injustice and cruel karma. What could be worse?

Since fate and the choice of life are at stake, many are nervous to the point of stupor, and I was no exception. I think that excellent students are more worried. First, so much effort has been put into it. Secondly, by working endlessly and denying yourself the joys and pleasures for the sake of a high goal, you feel a completely different motivation. The lower the probability of defeat, the more dramatic it is perceived.

The excellent students have one weak point - they are perfectionists and therefore try to study every exam question too carefully. This leads to the fact that some questions simply do not reach! An excellent student does not know how to work badly, and oddly enough, this is his weak point.

I can give valuable advice to all excellent students. Dear citizens of five! When you have a couple of days left before the exam, and you did not repeat everything, with your usual fanatical thoroughness, divide the remaining time by the number of questions and devote at least a little time to each one.

What does it do? - A guaranteed answer to any question. And when some of the answers are brilliant and some are normal, in general you have a chance to get the highest score. If in a number of questions you have excellent knowledge, and in others just zero without a stick, this creates a nightmarish tension and horror before the upcoming exam.

In order not to pull the cat by the bow, I will say right away that I passed chemistry by 5 points. Compared to the pitiful tasks that came across to me, I knew so much that I never stopped scribbling, with endless additional details, on many pages. I did not notice how several hours flew by. I wanted to give out everything I had learned. Most of all I was worried that I would not have time to show the fullness of my knowledge. Suddenly the time ran out, and I did not have time to rewrite the solutions for a clean copy! I didn't stand a chance.

Taking the draft, I wrote in calligraphic handwriting right on top of the sheet:
“Dear examiners! I am terribly worried that there are fixes in my work. I really hope that they will not influence your decision. In an effort to give everything away, I neglected the clean copy!
My life depends on this exam. "

I don't remember how long we waited for the result of this exam. Every day in the morning I went to the patch, where the applicants besieged the information boards.

I didn't have the strength to repeat biology and literature. All these damn Chichikovs, Sobakevichs and Natasha Rostovs intertwined in my head with stamens, pistils, as well as the laws of Gregor Mendel and his experiments with peas.

I've always been an academic maniac. Having heard that I would choke for the slightest mistake during the exam, I shook like an aspen leaf, delving deeper into the structure of the cage. At night, mitochondria and ribosomes floated before my eyes. It seemed to me that I was one large axon, and thousands of dendrites were growing from me in all directions.

On the third day, I could not eat, drink, or sleep.
When the crowd left the board, I crawled, you cannot say otherwise, to the information sheet, where marks were drawn in small squiggles, pale and wobbling, mostly three-fold. A howl of disappointment and tears stood around the stand. The parents consoled the hysterics. Some were beating on the shoulder of others. Still others smoked cursing. Two of them were laughing nervously, saying: "Well, to hell with him, you don't need to prepare anymore!"

Opposite my last name, I saw a squiggle, from which my mind was clouded. I could not understand if it was 3 or 5! Burying my nose in this grubby piece of paper, I saw that there were three pluses in front of my squiggles. I entered from one exam !!!
