Cyril and Methodius, the first teachers of Slovenia

Appearance of entering the temple
The clothes of the parishioner should be modest and clean. The tone of the vestments should be chosen in calm colors, “flashy” clothes in the church are useless. Sometimes it is recommended to wear clothes of certain colors, for example: light-colored vestments and a red scarf (for women) at Easter, dark clothes during Great Lent.
For confession and communion, ladies need to wear a skirt, but its length should not be above the knee. On a jacket or blouse, necklines and transparent fabrics should be avoided. Shoes should be comfortable, because you have to stand for a long time at worship services.
Men are not allowed to come in shorts, T-shirts, tracksuits.
Behavior in the Temple
In the House of God it is not accepted:
- to conduct conversations - this distracts parishioners from prayer;

- light candles on a candlestick while reading the Gospel, singing the Cherubim and the Eucharistic canon at the liturgy.
Buying candles, ordering prayers and magpies, purchasing literature should be on the eve of the Divine service, and not during it.

Evangelist, doctor, one of the seventy disciples of Christ, assistant of the Apostle Paul (probably you have heard the "Hymn of Love" of the Apostle Paul), Evangelist Luke was also an icon painter. The authorship of the Apostle Luke belongs to several icons of the Mother of God, for example, Vladimirskaya (in the Tretyakov Gallery). Loreto
The Loret statue of the Mother of God is a statue with an impressive history that has absorbed millennia. According to legend, the Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary sailed to Italy from Nazareth as a result of the Crusade Wars of the 13th century. There was a statue in the Holy House - in it, as the researchers proved, the Mother of God spent her childhood and youth. Leaving Jerusalem conquered by Muslims, in 1297, the crusaders moved the Holy House to Dolmatia, and from there, in 1294, the Holy House, together with the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, traveled to the small port city of Ankopa, and then to Loreto. Since then, Loreto has become a center of pilgrimage - in 1844, a Russian pilgrim, Archimandrite Porfiry, wrote down his impressions of visiting the Loreto Basilica in his diary: “A magnificent church was built on the very site of a wonderful event. As soon as you enter it, you will immediately see that sacred cave in which the Archangel announced the annunciation to the Humble One about the incarnation of the Son of God in Her. This cave was inside the house and probably made up the lower floor of it, where the Mother of God was engaged in needlework and contemplation. It is remarkable that even now the Nazarene women work in the lower parts of the house, and in the upper room they only rest at night. It is also remarkable that even now in some houses there are caves or, better, houses attached to the caves. I saw in passing one such house in the upper part of the city. It is no wonder that Joseph's house was attached to a natural cave, where there was a worker and a kitchen.
Appearance in Russia
In Russia, the news about the Loreto icon appeared due to the mutual interest of the Orthodox and Catholic churches. The Russian prince Ivan III, who married Sophia Poleologist, acquired not only a wise wife, but also turned the eyes of the Western world to the Russian principality. The son of his father, Grand Duke Vasily III strove for the West, his contacts with the pope improved as early as 1503, already in 1519 Vasily III puzzled over whether the Orthodox people of Russia and the Catholic flock of Leo X should unite under the auspices of the Union of Florence. The opponents were primarily interested in creating a common "fund" of the shrines of the East and West. In 1524, at the invitation of Pope Clement VII, who once again sought to spread his influence over the souls of the Russian principality, a Russian deputation went to Italy. An excursion to the Holy House in the city of Loreto was supposed to win over the inflexible Orthodox delegation to the side of the pope. Yeremey Trusov and Dmitry Gerasimov were amazed by the relic from Nazareth, upon the return of the delegates, Prince Vasily heard the miraculous story of the Holy House and the statue of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the first lists of the Loreto Icon of the Mother of God appeared in Russia.

After praying before the new image, the artist felt a clarity of mind, which allowed him to understand the question that tormented him. This is how the rare icon “The Addition of the Mind” was revealed, which also has other names: the Giver of the Mind or Filatheta (Greek: Truthfulness).
The prototype of the icon in Italy
Historical studies give other circumstances of the origin of the image. The source of "Filafeta" could be a Catholic figurine of the Virgin Mary, kept in the city of Loreto (Italy). The wooden figurine of the Mother of God with the Child is placed in the "Holy House" - a stone hut where Mary lived. The hut itself was dismantled and moved from Nazareth to Italy by a Greek family who were saving the shrine from the invasion of the Arabs.

The pearl beads rest on a fabric-sewn dalmatic, a sleeveless cloak worn over the statue. Based on the sculpture, the icon of the Mother of God of Loret was painted, where She, along with Jesus, is wrapped in a precious felon (cloak, belonging to the priestly vestment). The image of the Mother of God is sent to Russia
In the early 16th century, Vasily III had close contacts with Italy. At that time, the Orthodox and Catholic Churches had already separated, and the popes of Rome sought to take the Russian Church under their power, offering Basil economic and political benefits. For this, it was only necessary to change some dogmas - the foundations of the Orthodox faith.
The idea of the popes was not successful, but Vasily III nevertheless sent ambassadors for negotiations. Then it was already known that in Italy there was a “House of the Virgin” and the ambassadors wished to see it. Pope Clement IV invited them to Loreto in the hope that the veneration of common Christian shrines would bring the Orthodox closer to the Catholics.

Having visited the shrine and heard the stories of the servants of the House of the Mother of God, the ambassadors returned to their homeland and compiled the “Legend of the Church of the Holy Mother of God”, which has come down to our days. At the same time, a list of the Loret Virgin was made, which spread in Russia in the form of the “Increase of Mind” icon.
Both stories complement each other. The Mother of God came to the Russian land with Her "Smart Image" in a difficult period, when every believer had to sort out the many disagreements caused by the church reform.
The Russian version of the Loreto Mother of God fell in love with modern Italians so much that even now small images of the “Addition of the Mind” are distributed at the “House of the Virgin” in Loreto.
Meaning of images
The most ancient images are made on canvas, contrary to the Orthodox tradition of painting icons on boards. The origin of the strange form of the robe of the Virgin is explained above. In addition, here are:

- four angels in apostolic robes with candles represent the four Evangelists, carrying the light of truth. They also represent the four major Archangels;
- two burning lamps at the gates of paradise - "lamps of the wise virgins" from the gospel parable, which tells about the virgins waiting for the Bridegroom. The wise virgins took enough oil to keep their lamps burning until the morning, but the foolish did not have a supply and were late for the feast while they were looking for something to keep the fire going.
Customs associated with the image "Increasing the mind"
In past centuries, there was a pious custom among the people to place "votive icons" in churches. The icon painter was ordered to make an image of the Mother of God with certain saints, to whom the customers had a special zeal in prayer. The icon was donated to the temple, praying for the success of some important business.
As votive icons, the images of “Addition of the Mind” were also written, and the plot could change. There is a well-known image where the Divine Infant sits on the right hand of the Mother of God, holding symbols of royal power in his hands. THE HISTORY OF THE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD "THE ADDITION OF THE MIND"
According to legend, during the time of the church schism (the Old Believers did not accept revisions of church books and baptism with three fingers introduced by Patriarch Nikon) in the 17th century, one icon painter tried, but could not understand how to pray correctly, which side to become, whether the Patriarch or ancient traditions. He simply went crazy, but during periods of enlightenment he prayed for the help of the Most Holy Theotokos. Then She Herself appeared to him in a vision and blessed him to write Her image.
