University of Leicester or University of Leicester(English University of Leicester) is a public research university in Leicester (England). The main campus is located south of the city center, next to Victoria Park. Known for the discovery of genetic fingerprinting and the discovery of the remains of King Richard III.
The university has established itself as a leading research university and was named University of the Year in 2008 by Times Higher Education magazine. The University of Leicester is the only university to receive a Times Higher Education Award for seven consecutive years. In 2016, the university was ranked 24th in The Complete University Guide and 32nd in The Guardian. In the REF 2014 ranking, the University of Leicester was ranked 49th out of 126 universities. The university was founded as University College of Leicestershire and Rutland in 1921. The land for the university was donated by local textile manufacturer Thomas Fielding Johnson to create a living monument for those who lost their lives in World War I. This is reflected in the motto of Ut Vitam Habeant University - “to have life”.
In 1921, the first college enrollment took place. In 1927, when the college became University College Leicester, students took exams to obtain an external degree from the University of London. In 1957, the college received a Royal Charter of University status with the right to issue its own degrees. In 1963, the University of Leicester won the first ever televised University Challenge.

Preparatory Programs
