Fashion trends of the 2000s and what has become of them now. Printed Loose Dresses

Text: Tanya Reshetnik

WE ARE FULLY FOLLOWING behind new trends, but many of them raise a lot of questions: how suitable is it for life? How and with what to wear crop tops, hairy sneakers, plush jackets and transparent everything? This fall, the designers returned to the 2000s and brought models to the catwalk in tracksuits, very low-rise trousers and fancy denim. Here's how to apply these trends to your office and everyday wardrobe.

Luxury tracksuit

Tracksuits were worn in the 90s and 2000s, but it was in the last decade that the pages of fashion magazines flooded with sweatpants and hoodies made of velor and velvet - sport has never been as close to luxury as in 2005. It's easy to replicate a typical Juicy Couture look without overdoing it: opt for soothing colors and replace stilettos with comfortable sneakers. Elastic bands with rhinestones, bright earrings and bandanas are welcome.

Golden total bow

The noughties became an era of flashy luxury and kitsch, when it was hardly possible to confuse anyone with a golden total bow. Today, neat silhouettes and accessories in the spirit of the times, such as massive earrings and a velvet turban, will help to reduce the degree of pomp - be luxurious.

Corset lacing
and strip

Think of Fergie's early music videos or the Lady Marmalade video for Moulin Rouge! To imagine what the classic party outfit looked like at the time. Even today, many people decide to wear things with corset lacing on patent or matte leather only in the evening. However, together with a striped top, boots with a small heel and an asymmetrical jacket, it will turn out to be an excellent option for walking or meeting with friends.

Leopard print
and fuchsia

Fuchsia flashed in all summer collections, and we suggest not to forget about it in the cold season: few colors are so refreshing and uplifting. A common technique from the late 2000s is a leopard fur coat, a tight-fitting electrician pink dress and high-heeled shoes.

Faux fur in 2017 looks no worse than the real one, and a suitable dress can be found in any mass market. Corset shaping models are not in use today, so it is better to find a replacement for a free cut with an emphasis on the shoulders - colored boots and narrow sunglasses will perfectly fit into this image.

Animal print

It seems that designers have never been as obsessed with animal print as they were in the 2000s. A leopard dress combined with a leopard coat and boots to match in those years would not have embarrassed anyone.

In 2017, we propose to abandon literal quotes, but we also do not recommend forgetting about the pattern. Comme des Garçons found a delicate solution - the "leopard" has never looked so modest. Neat printed accessories also look great: scarves, mini-bags or faux fur mittens.

Denim total bow

Denim, denim and denim again - this is the main motto of the 2000s. Seventeen years later, Marques'Almeida and Topshop are famous for denim, which manage to sew tops, bustiers, dresses and even underwear from this material. To reproduce a denim total look, start with a triple combo: denim, top, and light flares. Best of all, this look will be complemented by ankle boots made of suede or with neat embroidery, as well as a sand trench coat or a laconic woolen coat.

Black mini

Minimalism in the 2000s was overshadowed by bright colors and ripped denim, but the combination of a black miniskirt, a fitted jacket and noticeable accessories like hoop earrings or belts with logos flashed regularly in fashion shoots. As a top, you can choose a regular bra - a typical technique from the 2000s - which, in combination with a tightly buttoned jacket, leaves almost no hint of eroticism. Today, this image looks just as fresh.

Sweater with lurex
and fancy denim

Mom will certainly support this image - she definitely has your teenage photos in similar outfits. Fashion moves in waves, and by 2017, fancy denim is back in popularity through the efforts of Marques'Almeida and Gucci. Add some lurex and fur to it and a cozy winter home party look is ready.

Russian fashion of the 2000s largely continued the traditions of the previous decade. The trend was all foreign, the conditions and rules of the "fashion game" were dictated by pop culture. Keeping up with the changing trends was simply unrealistic. However, there were still some general rules.

The trendsetters of that period were such young American stars as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez. With their light hand, the image of a young nymphet girl came into fashion. The craze began for short "school" skirts, trousers and jeans with a low rise, crop tops. It became simply necessary to open legs, stomach, chest. Even oversized knitted sweaters have become unrealistically small in length and turned into something like a crop top. Also, fur clothes appeared in the wardrobes of fashionistas, which were combined with light summer dresses. The neon colors of the outfits continued this "ball" of bad taste and anti-style.

Besides the fact that the clothes were short and bright colors, they were also completely skin-tight. Sexy skirts and boxer shirts made it possible to see all the curves of a woman's body. Real propaganda "porno".

At the same time, sports and androgynous styles began to be popularized. Russia is no exception to the rule. Girls and boys began to wear oversized jeans, shirts, stretched sweaters, leather jackets, heavy boots. Men's and women's fashion leveled off, merged into something in common called "unisex".

Capri pants were incredibly popular. They came into fashion somewhere around 2003, and at first their purpose was purely sporting, but then designers began to create these things with a slight touch of romanticism.

Romanticism came into fashion in 2006 and was marked by the massive love of all Russian women for tunics. Which perfectly hid figure flaws. Younger and more advanced paired them with jeans, cowboy boots and hats. Also, at the peak of romanticism, high-waisted dresses, which are still popular today, and outerwear with a floral print began to appear on the shelves.

I must say that Russian fashion of the 2000s merged with European and American fashion thanks to the mass media. TV and the Internet have actively promoted the Western style. The only thing left for the Russian people was to imitate, although this imitation was limited by the financial capabilities of many millions of citizens.

Style icons, so to speak, at that time were such "secular lionesses" as Ksenia Sobchak, Masha Malinovskaya, Oksana Robski, Masha Tsigal and others. Their style, or rather the absence of it, was replicated in the press and was perceived by many ordinary people as a kind of norm that should be copied.

It can be safely summed up that fashion in Russia did not exist at all during this period. A shocking mix of styles was observed in the absence of quality products, primarily fabrics, as well as in the absence of domestic, original designers. During this period, a mass departure of young people abroad began. They brought from there what they could afford to buy with the relatively small money they had. This is how the first Valentino, Lagerfeld, Mustang, Fendi, Emanuel, Ungaro appeared on the Russian streets. Young people experimented and gave birth to new trends, for example, sneakers with feminine long maxi skirts. Also during this period, the trend was second-hand, in which one could find a very cheap, but designer thing from old collections.

A little later, mass-market stores appeared in Russia, such as Topshop, Zara, Primark. Now it is possible to dress stylishly, fashionably and relatively inexpensively.

This is a period of design and stylistic experimentation, which led to the emergence of a modern, very discreet style.

The only successful trend of this period can be considered flared jeans, which are popular in Russia today. They fit perfectly on good female figures (and they looked good on not very good ones either). Although by the end of the decade one could already observe the predominance of minimalism and constructivism, white, gray and black colors in clothes. At the same time, they began to pay attention to the quality of the fabric and cut again.

With all the above criticism, the fashion for the "zero" is returning and this is noticeable throughout. By the way stars and young girls dress, by what Fashion houses and designers offer. This "comeback" is connected, first of all, with the fact that the fashion of the 2000s was not imposed by someone, it came "from the people", strengthened and became popular. And even if nouveau-rish-chic, porno, grunge, R'n'B style will not return completely, some of their elements will experience a rebirth and adapt to new realities. And this applies not only to clothing. Now, long, often false nails, corrugated curls, small braids, bright makeup, and jewelry are in vogue again. See how Adele, Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Bianca or Nyusha dress up. Leopard and fishnet tights are back in fashion. Fashion is cyclical, it leaves and comes, giving birth to trends that, unlike her, remain forever.

And since sometimes even professionals cannot predict future trends, we invite you to feel a little nostalgic and at the same time find out what was fashionable in the year you were born. After all, it is possible that these very iconic items will again appear in our wardrobes in the coming years!

1970

Elegance and femininity are perfectly combined in this look of Jacqueline Kennedy. The first lady of the United States was not only one of the main fashionistas of the 70s, but also quickly became a real trendsetter. If you love Jackie's style, get a camel coat-coat, cropped gloves and a messenger bag - the classic always "works" for you.

1971

Flared, vertical stripes and, of course, wide-brimmed hats - the bohemian 70s are making themselves felt almost 50 years later!

1972

Mick Jagger's ex-wife Bianca became one of the main trendsetters of those years, and one of her favorite wardrobe items was a men's-style trouser suit. It is Bianca, among other things, that we owe his popularization.

1973

Every year, flared jeans and trousers are getting wider, which is ideally combined with huge platforms and heels that have become fashionable.

1974

But all the fashionistas of the 70s did not remember the uniform costumes - in this decade the ball was also ruled by the emphasized romantic femininity.

1975

The whole world is watching the end of the Vietnam War, and this cannot but affect all spheres of life, including fashion - girls increasingly prefer miniskirts, sundresses and high-heeled sandals.

1976

The Charlie's Angels premiere was a huge success and, as expected, made its own adjustments to the top hot trends - shirt dresses, midi skirts and blouses with bows are in fashion.

1977

The 80s are approaching, and leggings, lurex and sweater dresses are making their way into fashion.

1978

The image of a "business woman" is becoming more and more relevant - girls wear men's shirts, vests, trousers and strict skirts.

1979

1980

Gold dresses and shoes - there is never a lot of glitter, and the wife of Mick Jagger (albeit already different), the supermodel Jerry Hall, literally personifies a luxurious bohemian girl, becomes the trendsetter again.

1981

Aerobics, Jane Fonda and Heather Locklear in swimsuits and leggings - the early 80s was the harbinger of today's "sports boom", including in terms of fashion.

1982

Lace collars, velvet and voluminous shoulders - the world is already beginning to fall in love with Princess Diana and her style.

1983

Polka dots in all sizes, accentuated wasp waist, broad shoulders and hats - the true spirit of the 80s!

1984

Oversized sweaters lowered on one shoulder and ubiquitous leggings were "in stock" for every fashionable girl of that time. If you don’t believe us, ask your mom, she will confirm!

1985

Fleece, jeans, all the same oversized sweaters and bulky leather jackets. And, of course, the always topical hit of the 80s "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"!

1986

Open shoulders, "ballet" skirts and radical short haircuts - the approach of 2000s fashion is becoming more obvious.

1987

Closed things come into fashion (women of fashion are literally buttoned up) and huge jewelry that will not leave the list of trends soon.

1988

In those years, every girl had a bright suit with a skirt, and they wore it not with boats, as you might think, but ... with sneakers and white socks!

1989

The era of supermodels is approaching, and fashion is still dominated by massive jewelry (and several at once in one image - this is ideal), gloves, berets and black in combination with a brighter one.

1990

Crazy colors are leaving for a temporary rest, giving way to the formula "white top, black bottom." However, multilevel necklaces and chain belts do an excellent job with the role of accents in the looks.

1991

Huge "men's" blazers, natural make-up and gold hoop earrings - the approach of grunge is becoming more noticeable.

1992

Versace, Versace and once again Versace - the Italian fashion house literally “crushes” all trends and sets fashion. High sleek ponytails, a combination of black and gold and deliberate sexuality are becoming the main trends.

1993

But simultaneously with sexuality, rave comes into fashion - a subculture that instantly wins the hearts of schoolchildren and students.

1994

While the Versace family was in favor of sex, John Galliano promoted grunge - the fashionistas acquired plaid shirts and ripped jeans as zealously as provocative dresses.

1995

In the mid-90s, radical minimalism begins to return to fashion - a simple cut and black and white range immediately find a lot of fans.

Talking about the fashion of the 2000s is not at all as easy as talking about the fashion of the decades of the last century. If earlier one fashionable style could hold on for many years, then already at the beginning of this millennium, girls gave up trying to keep up with fashion. To do this, it was necessary to change the entire contents of the cabinets literally every year.

Fashion has indeed become a very volatile young lady, whose mood has changed dramatically. But there were general trends, let's try to remember them.

The millennium began with the fashion that the pop singer brought to the masses. Both young girls and adult ladies tried to repeat the style of the playful schoolgirl. Short pieces that showed off a flat tummy and perfect legs were in favor.

The beginning of the 2000s was remembered for the abundance of naked bodies - everyone was naked and did it swiftly. Even knitted sweaters were okay to be made and worn in their extremely short cut.

After that, bright colors came into fashion, which became logical - and very tasteless! - continuation of the trend for short things. The obligatory presence of fur items in the wardrobe, which were combined with light, short dresses.

And then came the sporty style. Wide jeans, oversized T-shirts and sweatshirts, sports dresses and overalls. Sweatpants blended with sequined crop tops for an unimaginable cocktail that was not always nice to see. But the 2000s became a time of discovery, years when women of fashion realized that you can be free in terms of style - and experiment endlessly.

These experiments were not always successful. The only trend at the beginning of the millennium that has survived to this day was flared jeans, which saved many disproportionate figures. Until now, many fashion houses offer their fans pants and jeans of this type.

As such, there was no style of the 2000s. But experiments with bad fabric, bright and flashy tones and a mixture of incompatible styles only led to what we have now - to the tenth years, which will be remembered for elegance, permissiveness, which, at the same time, leaves fashionistas restrained, soft shocking and ... the ability to dress beautifully ... As in the 10s of the last century, women of fashion begin to appreciate fabric and texture, and not the opportunity to surprise. And the 2000s were an excellent springboard for such a takeoff ...
