4. Suspension me, spoiled by Mercedes comfort, just annoying. To feel each gyrus with your fifth point, it is simply not pleasant. Before Mercedes I had two "Sevens" VAZ. Chevrolet Aveo T250 is a restyling of the previous version, and not a new generation, as everyone thinks. Although visually it seems that this is a new generation, since there are many changes. There are new motors, suspension characteristics changed and much more. Let's discuss everything in more detail.

Exterior

The appearance has changed quite well, with a new hood with more prominent reliefs. There are also other headlights in front, they are larger, and the filling remains halogen. The small radiator grille is highlighted with a huge amount of chrome, which visually makes the car more expensive. The massive and embossed bumper of the model has air intakes in the lower part. In that area, there are round fog lamps with chrome surround and also a chrome horizontal line that connects to the optics.


The side of the sedan has surprisingly strongly inflated wheel arches, which cannot but please, especially a completely young audience. True, Korean cars do not use technological release bearings combined with a hydraulic cylinder, they manage with a classic "release" with a fork.

To prevent the boxes from dying in batches, the oil change intervals were reduced many times during the warranty period - the latest unofficial recommendations suggested changing it every 30 thousand kilometers. Unfortunately, many car owners consider this to be overkill. By the way, ordinary ATF works fine in the box instead of the native oil, this is a frequently practiced change. However, the hassle with it is still less than with the manual transmission, and with careful operation, the resource also exceeds 200-250 thousand kilometers before serious repairs.

Motors

The Aveo didn’t have many engines, but there’s a bit of confusion nonetheless. Many people still call the engines of the E-TEC II family "opelev", although they never installed them on European cars.

In general, all E-TEC units are developed on the basis of GM licenses and the development of Opel, however, they are modified by Daewoo and manufactured in Korea or Australia. Despite the generality of the design, there is a difference with European models.


Before restyling in 2007, motors B 12S 1 and F 14D 3 were installed with a camshaft belt drive. These are related engines on a modified Family I block. True, the 1.2 engine has only 2 valves per cylinder, and the 1.4 has 4, respectively, and the cylinder head is significantly different.

After restyling, the motors were replaced with B 12D 1, this is already a Family 0 family with a timing chain drive and 16 valves and an F 14D 4 motor, which belongs to the "old" Family 1 family and has a timing belt drive, but the design is more reminiscent of European engines and that's why many are called "opelevsky".

The motors are easy to distinguish. Which 1.2 is installed can be seen from the design: the new motor is smaller and the timing case is not visible - it is chain. Motors 1.4 can be distinguished by the nameplate power: the newer has 101 hp, versus 94 in the old one. Well, on the top cover proudly flaunts the inscription "Ecotec" instead of "E-TEC". The shape of the timing case and the location of attachments also differ.

All belt motors have a well-developed design with a sufficient resource. Even small 1.2 can go 200-250 thousand kilometers before overhaul with replacement of the piston group, and when using high-quality oils and short replacement intervals, the mileage before intervention in the piston will be more than 350 thousand, there are enough examples of this.


But, unfortunately, there are some nuances. At least all owners will be faced with leaking oil seals and gaskets. After all, the crankcase ventilation system is primitive here and needs cleaning, and the hole in the throttle space is simply clogged. The oil seals should be changed whenever possible, and the gaskets should be used only fresh, without reinstalling.

The cooling system is not made of the best materials and is prone to cracking of the pipes, expansion tank and thermostat. The latter is not very scary, because the temperature drops to a minimum, which makes life easier for older engines in hot climates, but in winter the owners suffer from underheating of the cabin.

In eight-valve 1.2 B 12S 1, if the oil change intervals of 10 thousand kilometers are not observed or when low-viscosity oils are used with runs of more than 100 thousand kilometers, the camshaft beds can be lifted. And this is serious. By the way, opelevskie with 8-valve engines or from Nexia with 1.5 engines are suitable. The reason is the clogging of the oil supply nozzle. By the way, it is recommended to drill it out, if the motor is still alive, to a diameter of 1.2 mm. And the timing belt needs to be changed not according to the regulations, but after 60 thousand mileage, and together with all the rollers. And change the pump at least after one timing change.

The restyled B 12D 1 motors have a relatively small timing chain resource, about 100-150 thousand kilometers. And therefore, it is worth carefully listening to the sounds of the chain during a cold start. The chain is thin and breaks easily, but more often it just jumps and bends the valve.

With the F 14D 3 motors, the situation is even more unpleasant. Incorrectly selected gaps in the valve-sleeve pair cause their "hanging", which eventually leads to burnouts and other unpleasant consequences, up to the destruction of the camshafts. The recall campaign is long gone, but there are still cars that have suffered from this problem for a long time, and the owners valiantly ignore all the symptoms.

A poor start and a decrease in compression for this engine with runs up to 150 thousand kilometers most often means an early repair of the cylinder head. Well, or a replacement for "opelevskaya", which is also a good option and even cheaper. High-voltage wires also need to be changed regularly, often the motor loses a lot in traction precisely because of them. The intake manifold becomes dirty, the vacuum drives do not work correctly, the throttle is clogged, and the idle valve requires regular cleaning.


The F 14D 4 was initially devoid of such a problem, but it also has its own subtleties. So, the state of the intake manifold flaps most often does not allow developing full power: EGR and oil from the crankcase ventilation system, as well as weak plastic flaps, are to blame.

Individual ignition coils are much more expensive than wires and ignition modules, and oil leaks are easily damaged. So you will have to regularly, at least once every 60 thousand, change the cylinder head cover gaskets if you do not want to change more expensive parts. Phase regulators may knock on startup. The problem is most often in the valves or contamination of the valve meshes, but if you drive for a long time with a knock, then the phase regulator couplings themselves will need to be replaced.

And watch out for oil leaks from the clutches, otherwise the timing belt may fail much earlier than expected. Valve clearances need to be adjusted - the motor does not have hydraulic lifters. Electronic throttle requires, otherwise failures and revolutions during switching and strong "floating" of idle are possible.

A rare 1.6 engine is usually an F 16D 4, as on, it was only installed on cars for the United States, so Aveo with such an engine is rare in our country. But in operation, it does not differ from the F 14D 4 motors.
