How to use Easyrecovery
Let's say you have a Transcend 2GB flash drive; when you try to access it, a message appears about the need to format it.
Of course, you don’t need to format anything to gain access to the data. Let's launch the program. On the first screen, click Continue. Next, we are asked to choose what type of media we need to restore from.
You can immediately select where you want to recover data from. The next step will still display a list of devices. If you select Memory Device, a list of removable media will be displayed, if Optical Media - a list optical disks, if Multimedia/Mobile – a list of devices operating via the MTP protocol (media transfer protocol), if RAID System – you will be prompted to assemble a virtual array (this is only available in the registered version), if you select Hard Drive – a list of all supported devices in system and you will have to look for your flash drive among the entire list. Select Memory Device and click Continue.
Select our volume (H:), click Continue.
Next, the program asks what we want to do with our flash drive:
Explore Volume– simply opens the content, as in Explorer, nothing is scanned. Can be used if you need to open a disk with a file system that is not supported by Windows. In our case, this option is not suitable - the flash drive does not open at all because it has logical damage.
Deleted File Recovery– search and recovery of accidentally deleted files, folders, files deleted from the recycle bin. Depending on the settings, it can scan the entire volume or only unallocated space.
Formatted Media Recovery– recovery after accidental formatting of the device or if the message “Disk is not formatted” is displayed when accessing. Completely scans the media for file systems and various types files, works longer than the previous option. This is what we will use.
Disk Diagnostics– carrier diagnostics.
Provides basic capabilities media checks: scanning for bad blocks, reading SMART. For such operations, there are free tools specially created for this purpose, for example Victoria, HDDScan, which can actually diagnose the drive more objectively.
Disk Tools– a set of additional tools for working with disks. Let's look at them.
Create Image– creating a media image to a file.
Restore Image– write the image file sector by sector to the media.
Copy Disk– copy one disk to another sector-by-sector.
It is difficult to say why these functions are needed in this program, given that sector-by-sector copies need to be made from faulty media, and for this, other tools are used with completely different capabilities aimed at minimizing the impact on the faulty drive.
View Disk– the simplest disk editor.
Allows you to view and copy the contents of individual disk sectors. This is all additional features. We still need to restore our flash drive. Therefore, select Formatted Media Recovery and click Continue. The search process for the file system and individual files starts.
With a large storage capacity, scanning can take several hours. Our flash drive is only 2GB, it takes a couple of minutes. At the end of the process, the result will be displayed.
We received a result of average quality - the structure and names of the files were not preserved. Recovery was possible only by file type: images, documents, etc. From useful points in the Open context menu (will save the file to a temporary folder and open it in the associated program) and Save as – save a separate selected file. If you previously split your hard drive into several volumes, then you need to remember exactly where the deleted information was located. An untouched disk will have only one virtual partition displayed. Select the desired section and move on.
We will restore information from the second hard drive; to do this, select volume H, this is the only volume of this hard drive and click the continue button.
- In the next window you need to select one of the file recovery scenarios; you can choose one of five scenarios:
- Search by partition if you need to save data from a valid (live) partition.
- Recover deleted data, search and recover accidentally deleted and lost files. Also suitable for deleted files from the Recycle Bin and after formatting.
- Recovering formatted media. Recover data from formatted media devices. As well as lost files from unformatted devices. It takes longer, but the chance of data recovery is higher.
- Disk diagnostics. The results of the disk analysis will be displayed graphically. You can run an analysis to determine badblocks, the presence of bad blocks. Get detailed information on hard disk volumes.
- Disk Utilities. Creating a disk image file and restoring from it, copying the disk, erasing it and viewing it.
Scenario number 2 suits us best - Recovering deleted data. To adjust scanning settings, you need to click on the button - Click for information. Here you can specify additional file systems for search. When scanning hard drive You should definitely check the box next to the NTFS file system.
Proceed to the next step, click the Continue button.
Step 4 - Select scanning options. In fact, at this stage you can no longer choose anything. Here EasyRecovery simply lets us know which data recovery configuration we have chosen. The type of storage media being recovered is indicated at the top, and the partition (volume) we have selected for scanning is indicated below. Below is the recovery scenario and file system types. The process of searching for files deleted from the hard drive has begun. The scanning time directly depends on the size of the hard drive (partition) and the amount of information located on it. It can last from a few minutes to several hours.
At the end of the scan, the program will display a window in which you need to click OK.
Step 5 - Selecting files to save (restore).
As you scan, the found files will be displayed in the left column of the main program window in the form of vertically arranged folders. After the search is completed, all found files by type will be distributed into the appropriate folders. Select the NTFS deleted folder. In the work field on the Table tab we look for our deleted folders. At the same time, you need to know that not only deleted or lost folders are shown here, but also existing ones. For convenience, existing and deleted folders are shown in different colors.
Existing folders are indicated in blue, lost or deleted in green. Select the required folders in green and save them by clicking the Save button at the top of the program window. We strongly recommend that you do not save found files to the same media, since successful data recovery is not guaranteed.
