DIY cold porcelain figurines. DIY cold porcelain: crafts for beginners. DIY cold porcelain products - master class with photos. The history of cold porcelain

In this master class I will tell you in detail how I make my cold porcelain. This master class will be of interest not only to those who want to make their first flower, but do not dare to make cold porcelain themselves, but also to those who have been sculpting for a long time and professionally, because as a result of the usual recipe I have modified, the clay obtained is almost like Thai modern or fleur (a comparison will be given below).

In the title photo you can see what we need for this (exactly this). The main thing in this set is, of course, glue. It must be with a plasticizer, otherwise nothing will work. Initially, I made clay from the same glue, only in a red jar with D2 plasticizer, but the clay turned out to be viscous, dried quickly, and did not roll out well. I decided to change the glue to this one in a white jar, it has a D1 plasticizer.

This glue is sold in construction stores such as Megastroy, Leroy Merlin. Trust me, it's worth looking...

Regarding starch: I haven’t tried using potato starch, I don’t know, corn starch is better, as it gives whiteness and velvety.

Regarding the cream: I haven’t found a better one than Nivea cream in a blue jar. It contains everything for good clay: Vaseline oil, wax, paraffin, glycerin (use only this).

Regarding Jonsos oil: if you don’t have it, you can replace it with petroleum jelly (sold at the pharmacy), but Jonsos also contains coconut oil, it is a softener, gives the mass tenderness, softness, velvety - almost like baby’s bottoms :)

I haven’t tried using lemon juice instead of citric acid; it seems to me that liquid is not needed here.

Let's begin! I will write in great detail so that you don’t make my mistakes and everything works out for you.

1. Pour 100 ml of glue into the first glass.

2. Pour the same amount of starch into the second glass (hit the glass on the table so that it settles and, if necessary, add more starch so that there is an even amount). Then take a teaspoon and add 3 more small heaped spoons. It should look like this:

3. It is also important what you cook the mass in. You need a container with a thick bottom and a good non-stick coating so that the mass gradually warms up. I once cooked it in a thin frying pan with a glossy non-stick coating (it didn’t work), the only time I threw it in a bucket. Another point: there should be no dust or lint on the frying pan and spatula, so wipe with a damp cloth and then with a waffle towel or paper napkin, otherwise it will all be in your snow-white porcelain.

4. Pour glue into the frying pan, then Nivea cream, oil, citric acid. Proportions in the picture.

You need a full teaspoon of oil (a little spilled out when I took the photo).

5. We put the frying pan on low heat and at this moment we don’t go anywhere and don’t get distracted. Using a wooden spatula, mix vigorously and smoothly until the cream is completely dissolved.

6. When the pan becomes warm, but not hot, the first bubbles appear, then pour in half a glass of starch and stir vigorously, then the second part and stir without stopping.

7. You need to stir in a circular motion, as if collecting the mass into a lump. An important point: when to remove from the pan? You can either undercook or overcook. I do this: when a lump has formed, as in the last photo, I press it against the frying pan with a spatula and lift it; if it falls freely, remove it immediately; if it sticks, it’s too early.

8. Prepare a clean, smooth surface for kneading in advance. Sprinkle a little starch and lay out the lump. Let it cool down.

At this time, wash the frying pan and everything that was with glue. The glue can be quickly washed off with a simple detergent and hot water. After this, wipe your hands with a damp cloth and a dry waffle towel (otherwise everything will remain in porcelain), powder your hands with starch and begin to intensively knead the mass. The mass should be warm, not hot, otherwise there will be a paste. I don’t knead on the board, but do it in my hands - I knead it like plasticine, stretch it, crush it, and so on. If it sticks to your hands, lightly powder the mixture and continue for 5 minutes. The mass should turn out to be plastic (not torn), soft, velvety, snow-white.

We wrap it in a plastic bag, letting out the air, and put it in any opaque container away from the battery. By the way, I don’t lubricate the bag with cream, since the mass does not stick (the cream gives the mass shine and plasticity). Stores perfectly. After a month it does not lose its properties. Let's compare purchased clay and mine.

Let's compare plasticity, transparency, color.

Personally, my conclusions and feelings:

Cold porcelain is no worse than store-bought Thai clay - it is just as soft, flexible, even more velvety and whiter, takes paint well, does not shrink, and tolerates moisture well.

But there is one But: after 10-12 hours of hardening, you can correct the shape of the product, but after two days this is no longer possible.

What do the Thais add to their clay to maintain plasticity? Maybe someone knows?

I present my work, made entirely from porcelain of my own production.

This concludes my first master class in my life, so, my dears, do not judge me harshly, please.

Ask questions, I will answer everyone with great desire!

I wish everyone inspiration, more free time for creativity, smiles and good mood!

There are a large number of materials for handicrafts. For example, to make a figurine, you can use cold porcelain rather than clay, which is much easier to work with. Flowers and other details that require careful design are made from this material. The convenience of cold porcelain is that you can prepare it yourself at home and you won’t need to spend a lot of money. Sometimes recipes use cooking to create this material, but there are ways to prepare it without it.

The main components required to make cold porcelain are: glycerin, glue, cornstarch and oil. Nowadays, the composition of the recipes has changed a little. According to some sources, such a homogeneous composition first appeared in Argentina about a hundred years ago. Initially, its main use was the production of small figurines and figurines with a large number of elements. Due to the fact that this material is easy to work with, because the result is ordinary ceramics, it has gained popularity among both adults and children.

How to cook cold porcelain: a recipe for beginners

Making beautiful pieces will take time and practice, but even those new to sculpting can handle making cold porcelain. You will need the following ingredients:

  • corn starch;
  • water;
  • soda;
  • vegetable oil.

Cooking method:

DIY cold simple porcelain: recipe with cooking

Potato starch - the component is a little more familiar than its corn counterpart and is therefore considered more accessible. However, this ingredient gives porcelain a yellowish color and it is better not to use it if you want to get a white material. The classic cold porcelain recipe involves cooking. So, to make it you will need:

  • starch - 170 ml;
  • PVA glue - 170 ml;
  • lemon juice - tbsp. spoon;
  • Vaseline - Art. spoon;
  • glycerin - st. spoon.

Operating procedure:

DIY cold porcelain without cooking

Cold porcelain without cooking is almost no different in consistency and properties from what is made by cooking. It is just as flexible and is no more difficult to make. To make it you will need:

  • corn or potato starch - 2 tbsp. spoons;
  • Vaseline - 1 tbsp. spoon;
  • baking soda;
  • glue.

Preparation procedure:

There is another recipe for making cold porcelain with your own hands without cooking. Required:

  • wallpaper glue - 1 spoon;
  • baking soda - 1 spoon;
  • water - 1 spoon.

To these ingredients can add a little detergent or Vaseline. Mix all the ingredients and get a white mass. The resulting material should be stored in the refrigerator.

Some tips:

Painting material

Cold porcelain that is made at home can be painted. There are several ways to do this. Different paints can give a bright and rich color to products: acrylic, food or gouache. They are added to the material after cooking at the kneading stage so that the color is uniform.

You can also paint the finished product. To do this, dry food paint is applied to the figure using a brush. Next, the product should be held over a boiling kettle for a couple of minutes.

The drying process of crafts takes from one to seven days. To speed it up, you can keep the figurine in the oven, preheated to the minimum temperature.

How crafts are made

The most popular products made from cold porcelain are flowers. They can be made simply by hand without any tools or using special molds. Also, plastic spoons can help in creating artificial flowers. The material is placed in the recess of the spoon and rolled out over it. Then several more such parts are made, which are assembled into a flower. To make crafts, you can use any tools, it all depends on your imagination.

Cold porcelain

Cold porcelain is a mixture of corn starch, glue, oil and glycerin, which began to be used for artistic modeling. It was invented at the beginning of the last century in Argentina. “Cold porcelain” today is an absolutely harmless, convenient and very cheap material for modeling. Due to its very smooth and uniform texture and remarkable plasticity, it is very convenient to use. Another advantage of “cold porcelain” is that not only adults, but also children can work with it. When hardened, “cold porcelain” acquires hardness, which distinguishes it from plasticine.

This wonderful material gives unlimited possibilities for creativity; you can make anything from it, even real works of art!

Products from cold porcelain can be made by both beginning sculptors and children, especially since it is very interesting to work with it. Cold porcelain is absolutely safe to use.

Cold porcelain is one of the cheapest, most pliable and accessible materials. Even very small products can be sculpted from it. After all, there is clay and puff pastry, and small parts can also be made from them, but porcelain has a great advantage over them - it does not need to be baked, it dries on its own in the fresh air in two days.

Modeling from this material develops fine motor skills of the hands; jewelry, pendants, flowers, greeting cards, and paintings are made from it.

The first writings about modeling from cold porcelain were found in Chinese treatises. About art and sculpture. Cold porcelain was invented in Argentina in the early 19th century. A similar recipe was used at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg. As the story goes, the first flowers were made in Russia at the beginning of the 19th century by Pyotr Ulyanovich Ivanov, they were used to decorate perfume bottles for the emperor and his family.

Recipe

Consider one of the recipes for making porcelain:

  • 1 cup rice or corn starch;
  • 1 cup PVA glue;
  • 2 tablespoons glycerin;
  • 1 tablespoon of rich baby cream.

Mix all ingredients thoroughly and let steep for 15-20 minutes. Do not store in the refrigerator or leave at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

  1. The product can be painted only after complete drying, but not earlier than a day later.
  2. Porcelain can be painted with oil, acrylic paints, and gouache. Coloring with water-based paints (food coloring) should be avoided.
  3. When working with porcelain, so that it does not stick to your hands, lubricate your hands with cream.
  4. Recipes that contain water are fragile and short-lived.
  5. If you add 1 tablespoon of citric acid to the composition, the product will be stronger and more durable, since it creates a preservation effect.
  6. Do not store near water or in direct sunlight.
  7. For storage, optimal temperature conditions must be observed. At 10°C the structure will collapse. At high temperatures, the structure also collapses - the material shrinks and crumbles.
  8. To ensure that the products last as long as possible, they are coated with varnish. Thus, the product is protected from moisture, color and shape are preserved.
  9. It is recommended to use all the porcelain at a time, but if there is any left, store it in a plastic bag or tightly sealed container.
  10. The surface of the products can be sprinkled with small beads, seed beads, and sand.
  11. If the porcelain material sits for a long time, it becomes liquid. It can also be used. Using a medical syringe, you can draw or write with it, after pre-treating the surface with glue.

Tools required for work:

  • rolling pin and cutting board;
  • scissors;
  • tweezers;
  • wire cutters;
  • toothpick or knitting needle;
  • brushes and paints;
  • gloves;
  • thin wire;
  • PVA glue.

Product Description

For beginners, the easiest way is to start sculpting flowers. And caring for them is simple: just blow on the product with a hairdryer to remove dust.

Sakura

We divide the material into 2 parts: one part is white, and the other is pink (you can pre-paint it soft pink). From each color we make blank blocks, as in the photo, for the petals, and we make the white block thicker.

We connect the blanks together along the length and cut them into small rectangles.

Make the base of the petal pink and the edges white. To do this, glue the petals together with PVA, and in the middle, using a toothpick, make a hole for the stem (wire).

From the previously prepared blocks, you need to form flower petals, connect them together, and make a hole inside for the stem (wire).

We “seat” the buds on a cup-leaf green at the base and white at the edges, secure it and make a stem.

The branch of the sakura harvest should be the same as the real sakura. Each branch is collected separately after complete drying. The buds must be twisted using wire.

Now the sakura can be placed in a vase.

Rose

Take a piece of porcelain, about the size of a pea, and roll it out in your palm. After this you need to make a drop.

Using a toothpick, roll out a droplet and roll it into a tube.

We attach subsequent petals to it in a checkerboard pattern. To secure the petals, you can use PVA glue.

Such flowers can be placed in a vase, or they can also be used to decorate a greeting card or a painting.

Video on the topic of the article

The video contains detailed master classes on making products from cold porcelain.

Crafts made from cold porcelain have recently become very popular. This is not surprising, because this material allows you to easily create interesting products even for beginners with the slightest experience in modeling. The great advantage of the material is that it can be made from readily available and inexpensive products. Unlike plasticine and clay, it is much more convenient and easier to work with, since it is much more flexible.

This material is also called porcelain (from the English porcelain, which means “porcelain”). It was invented at the beginning of the twentieth century in Argentina. It got its name because when it dries it looks like real porcelain. Unlike polymer clay, which is sold in craft stores, cold porcelain is made independently from the most accessible ingredients, and this is its main advantage.

It is no worse than purchased modeling material, as it is unusually plastic and pliable. After drying, the material becomes as hard as polymer clay, but unlike it, it is not toxic. Therefore, both adults and children can work with it.

G The main ingredient of this material is starch. You can use any, but the most suitable are rice and corn, as well as a mixture of them in a one-to-one ratio. The molecules that make up starch are natural polymers.

Cold porcelain has its own characteristics that must be taken into account. It is important to know that it is sensitive to sudden changes in temperature. It should not be placed in the refrigerator, as it will simply become unusable. Requires room temperature for storage.

After the modeling material is ready, it should be stored wrapped in plastic wrap at room temperature. Before placing the porcelain in film, it is advisable to lubricate it with baby or sunflower oil. The film will prevent chapping and drying out of the material, and the oil will protect against fungus. Once a day you need to change the bag and remove moisture.

The mixture should be cooked only in glass or Teflon containers. If the mass is made from potato starch, it should be infused for at least a day. This will improve its quality and ductility.

To avoid cracks in the products, the mixture should be thoroughly mixed. If the material turns out to be liquid, add starch and knead to the desired consistency.

When sculpting, it is better to lubricate your hands with cream, so the work will be more comfortable and easier. To color porcelain flowers, you can use dry food coloring, which should be applied with a brush after the material has completely hardened. The flower should be held over the steam from the kettle. The material will absorb the dye, and the flower will look realistic.

A wide variety of products can be made from cold porcelain. This could be a candlestick, a vase, a hairpin, beads, a monkey and various souvenirs in the form of animals, birds, as well as beautiful flower arrangements.

This material allows you to create realistic flowers and even the smallest and filigree details and figures. Crafts can be an original gift for the New Year or any other holiday.

Features of finished products

Crafts require proper storage. The material is a type of polymer clay that has the ability to absorb moisture and lose color when exposed to the sun. Therefore, products should be protected from moisture and direct sunlight.

Products should not be kept in rooms where the temperature is below ten degrees. Excessively high temperatures also have a destructive effect on the material. If you coat products with varnish, you can protect them from moisture and cracking.

Cooking recipes

There are many different recipes for preparing this modeling material. After its invention, many attempts were made to improve it and make it more convenient. This mass contains glue, glycerin and oil, instead of which in recent years craftsmen have advised adding regular body or hand cream. Experiments with different types of glue are still ongoing.

Classic way

To make the modeling mass, you will need a glass of PVA glue, a glass of corn starch, 1 tablespoon of glycerin, 1 tablespoon of hand cream, preferably thicker, and 1 teaspoon of citric acid. If desired, you can add flavoring.

All ingredients should be combined in a glass saucepan and stirred thoroughly until smooth. Now you need to put it on low heat and constantly stir the mixture with a wooden spatula. Gradually, lumps begin to appear and the mixture thickens, gathering into a large lump. After the mass thickens well and the lump begins to stick away from the spatula, you can turn off the heat and place it on the board.

The mass should be kneaded well. Palms can be lubricated with cream. You should get an elastic, homogeneous lump of dough.

Recipe without cooking

This recipe allows you to make modeling material without cooking. To prepare, you will need some wallpaper glue, which must contain modified starch. This is a requirement. For example, you can use Moment Classic wallpaper glue. You will also need some baking soda, water, glycerin or petroleum jelly and some dishwashing detergent.

Mix glue and soda in a bowl, add cold water and knead thoroughly. If the mass turns out to be runny, this can be corrected by adding soda to it. Knead and add soda until the mass becomes like plastic dough. After this, you need to generously grease your hands with oil and mix it into the mass. Add oil little by little until the dough stops sticking to your hands. To completely eliminate stickiness, add a few drops of dishwashing detergent to the mixture. The result is an elastic material with a pleasant smell.

Mass without glue

To prepare this type of porcelain, you need to dissolve the same amount of corn starch in half a glass of water. Then the mass should be heated a little so that it begins to thicken, and then add the same amount of soda. The composition will quickly harden and take on the desired shape. After cooling to room temperature, you can begin sculpting.

Master classes on modeling

On the Internet you can find a large number of different ideas for creating costume jewelry, figurines, realistic flowers and much more. A handmade gift is a pleasure to give to a loved one. Such an original gift will definitely be liked and remembered for a long time..

New Year's ball

New Year's crafts made from cold porcelain for beginners are not particularly difficult and can serve as wonderful gifts. To make a Christmas tree ball you will need the following materials:

  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • foil;
  • clear nail polish;
  • paper napkin with a beautiful thematic pattern;
  • narrow satin ribbons that match the color of the selected pattern on the napkin.

Progress:

The New Year's toy must be coated with transparent varnish. Now all that remains is to tie a bow of the chosen color to the base of the ribbon loop. Crafts made from cold porcelain for the New Year will become wonderful holiday decorations, as well as wonderful gifts.

Porcelain beads

Such products do not pose any special difficulties. Jewelry made from this material is very popular, and working with it is a pleasure. Beads for jewelry can be made in any shape. They can be round, square, teardrop-shaped, oval, faceted, etc. The easiest way to make beads is the classic round shape. To work you will need:

  • modeling mass;
  • gypsy needle;
  • board;
  • acrylic paints or nail polishes.

Progress:

  1. Roll balls of the required size.
  2. Then make through holes in the balls, piercing each ball with a gypsy needle.
  3. After this operation, you need to roll the ball a little in your palms again. This should be done carefully so as not to pinch the holes.

After complete drying, the beads can be painted. To ensure that the product lasts as long as possible, it should be coated with a clear varnish.

It is easy to make your own cold porcelain products at home. Working with this modeling compound is convenient and easy. You can use it to make a variety of interior items, decorations and souvenirs, which will be a wonderful gift for friends and family on any occasion.
