Previous work experience and volunteer activities may also be taken into account. OWL students are among the lucky ones!

First we prove that It's possible to get a scholarship.

We are proud that OWL-study students have repeatedly managed to receive recognition of their success in material form!

In particular, in Douglas College, Vancouver, BC There are several of our fellows!

For example this Igor Kreshchenko :

- I had good grades in my certificate, and the OWL-study company helped me prepare a motivation letter - this is my path to an entrance scholarship to college, which turned out to be very useful for me! She helped me partially cover my tuition costs. I was very happy when I found out that I would be one of the 5 lucky winners!

Student Irina Kochan I also got this option:

- I am studying in the Associate of Science, major in Biology program. I was lucky to win an entrance scholarship in the amount of 2000 Canadian dollars even before arriving in Vancouver. OWL-study consultants helped me collect all the important documents, diplomas, IELTS results and other achievements, and also write a letter explaining why I was entering this particular college, why I chose this particular specialty. And a few weeks before my arrival in Canada, I received an email that congratulated me on my first small victory! I was happy to receive this financial assistance, which motivated me to study even better and strive for new achievements!

Of course, for beautiful eyes Canadian universities do not provide cash scholarships to foreign students. You must prove that you are worthy of such an award. This can be done directly during training or, relatively speaking, in advance upon admission.

To do this, the student needs fill out the registration form, add a motivation letter, your resume, diplomas confirming participation in various competitions, certificates of completion of courses in various fields activities, scientific articles etc. Then a special commission reviews candidates for scholarships and identifies truly talented and promising individuals to whom it makes sense to provide financial assistance.

Only two-year student diploma program full-time education . Students from certified one-year programs are not eligible for scholarships. Therefore, if you are considering a scholarship, firstly, make sure that the university you are planning to enroll in has scholarship programs for foreign students, and secondly, choose a two-year program.

Getting an education abroad is not cheap. However, most higher education institutions in Europe, the USA and Canada provide grants, incentive scholarships and discounts to particularly successful students. It will not be possible to cover the cost of study completely, but reducing expenses by 20-50 percent is quite possible.

Main types of incentives

Scholarships for foreign students are given for various achievements in art, science, sports, and creativity. Incentives are awarded on an individual basis. Such motivations include the following types payments:

  1. Merit-based scholarship.
  2. Need-based scholarship.
  3. Fellowships.

Master's and doctoral students receive scholarships for performing various research, teaching and assistantships.

Other types of financial support for foreign students

Types of scholarships abroad have not only the format of discounts for tuition, but also the targeted provision of financial assistance to individuals who have proven themselves in a particular field. Funds come from sponsorships, voluntary donations and potential employers.

All types of scholarships abroad are predominantly awarded in a non-cash format. These funds can be used for accommodation, food, additional training and household needs of the student. From some charges in mandatory tax is taken.

The scholarship may be terminated if the student does not comply with the conditions guaranteeing its receipt (hours and number of classes attended, participation in extracurricular life university, etc.). The determining factors for students receiving financial benefits are academic performance and individual qualities. In addition, the student’s social activity is taken into account. Experts recommend not hoping for a scholarship, but initially choosing conditions that are financially acceptable.

Mikhail Kravtsov, Boston

Didn't win the Olympics. There were retakes. There are three marks in the record book. And yet I am in the USA, I was able not only to enter, but also to win a grant. All you have to do is submit the correct application...)

Denis Malyar, Moscow

thanks for urgent help in selection language school for a child. The deadlines were pressing, no one would take your blood. We'll come back again next summer!

In other countries, certain categories of students are offered special financial conditions. They got the name scholarship programs. Scholarships differ significantly from classical Russian Western ones. First of all, the fact that most of these programs provide a discount on tuition fees. The size may vary. Practice shows that a scholarship almost never covers 100% of the cost of education. But getting a 50% discount is quite possible. Foreign students at foreign universities are also offered symbolic scholarships (not exceeding $100 - $1500).

Types of scholarships

Scholarships in foreign universities are awarded to gifted students for academic, creative, sports achivments. This support is called meritbased scholarship. Sometimes scholarships are given to students in financial need. Scholarships in the needbased scholarship category, like the first ones, are awarded on an individual basis.

Another type of financial support for foreign students is fellowships. Such scholarships are awarded according to gender ( special programs for women), social, ethnic, geographical characteristics. For students of master's and doctoral programs, research assistantships are provided for performing certain research works and teaching assistantships for achievements in teaching and assistant activities.

Other types of financial support for international students

At foreign universities, foreign students can reduce their tuition costs not only through scholarships. They, on equal terms with citizens of the country, can receive grants (earmarked funds for financing research, projects), sponsorship from individuals, charitable organizations, interested companies(possibly potential employers).

Features of the accrual and use of scholarship funds

Foreign universities practice non-cash transfers of funds. This applies to regular scholarships, grants, and sponsorships. Scholarship funds can be used to pay for certain items of student expenses (accommodation, meals, teaching materials etc.), studying at a university (partially or completely). Some scholarships are subject to taxes.

Any financial assistance imposes certain obligations on the scholarship recipient. In the case of merit based scholarship, this may be a limitation on the minimum semester or annual average score, with teaching assistantship - on the number of hours spent on a certain type of activity in the interests of the university. If the requirements are violated, the scholarship is revoked.

The criteria for awarding financial assistance are primarily the academic performance of the candidate, as well as his personal qualities. The student’s social activity within the educational institution is also taken into account.

Scholarships are usually awarded in countries with high tuition costs. But strict criteria for selecting scholarship recipients reduce the chances of foreigners receiving financial assistance. Experts in the field of education recommend initially choosing the country of education based on your income.
