The University of British Columbia is the most famous educational institution in the province of the same name. It was established in 1908, and in 1915 received the first students within its walls. There are two campuses - the main one in Vancouver and the Okanagan campus in the city of Kelowna. The main campus has 85 percent of students. Approximately 23 percent of students on the Vancouver and 13 percent of the Okanagan campuses came from other states to learn. Depending on the program, the cost of education varies and is significantly higher for foreigners. All first-year students are guaranteed accommodation in dormitories, the next ones receive preference for sophomores-foreigners.
There are over twenty faculties based in Vancouver, while only eight are based in the Okanagan. The academic year on both campuses includes winter and summer sessions, consisting of two quarters, but sometimes there may not be a summer session. The main language used in the classroom at the University of British Columbia is English. First-year students can take part in the Vantage One program, designed to improve their English language skills, while increasing the duration of the first year of study from 8 to 11 months. Upon completion of the Vantage One program, the student is enrolled in the second year of their specialty. The university's research units include the National Laboratory of Subatomic Physics, the Center for Sustainable Food Systems based on its own farm, and the Institute for Healthy Lifestyles and Chronic Disease Prevention.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is an international research and teaching center consistently ranked among the top 40 universities in the world. Since 1915, UBC has been open to new things and challenging the established state of affairs in education, very much in the spirit of Canada's West Coast. The entrepreneurial focus of the university encourages students, faculty and staff to test traditions for strength, conduct unique research and look for new teaching methods. At UBC, every bold thought is given the opportunity to evolve into an idea that could change the world. The university provides extensive opportunities for international interaction between students, faculty, staff and alumni, and also cooperates with universities, organizations and enterprises around the world.
In 1877, just six years after British Columbia joined Canada, John Jessop, Superintendent of Education, proposed a university in the new Canadian province. The University of British Columbia Act was passed by the provincial legislature in 1890, but there was controversy over whether the university should be built on Vancouver Island or on the mainland. By merging the Vancouver and Victoria high schools with McGill University, Henry Marshall Tory then helped create the University of British Columbia. McGill. From 1906 to 1915, McGill BC College (as it was then called) remained a private educational institution that prepared students for several years to receive a degree at McGill University or another institution. In 1941, Henry Marshall Tory, founder and president of the University of Alberta and the National Research Council of Canada, co-founder of Carleton University, established the A. Henry Marshall Tory.
Past and current faculty and alumni include:
- Two Prime Ministers of Canada
- 11 members of the Canadian National Teaching Fellowship (3M National Teaching Fellowship)
- Winners of 65 Olympic medals
- 68 Rhodes Scholars, four of whom received scholarships in the last five years
- 180 members of the Royal Society of Canada

Academic Specialization
UBC has earned an international reputation for excellence in cutting-edge research and education, offering a wide range of innovative programs in the arts, sciences, medicine, law, business and more. The University of British Columbia has consistently ranked in the top 40 universities in the world, and more recently has been one of the top 20 public universities in the world. According to The Times Higher Education (THE) 2014 rankings, UBC ranks 33rd in university reputation rankings. This rating is part of a more general, comprehensive rating, and is compiled on the basis of a public opinion poll in the academic environment.
UBC has two campuses in Vancouver and the Okanagan, which currently have over 60,000 students from Canada and over 140 countries.
Campus Vancouver
The campus is located in the northern part of the Point Gray peninsula; the territory of the campus and adjacent territories is more than 400 hectares. Surrounded by forests on three sides and ocean on one side, the Vancouver campus is only 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Historically, this location of the campus is the traditional territory of the Indians of the northwest coast of Musqueam.
The main scientific laboratories, stadiums, cultural centers and museums of the city are located on the campus, such as:
TRIUMPH Subatomic Particle Research Laboratory
UBC University Library
Chan Art Center
Center for Interactive Studies
Museum of Anthropology. Arthur Erickson
UBC Botanical Garden
The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Center, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics hockey tournament.
Education in Vancouver is all about modernity and innovation.
Okanagan campus
The Okanagan campus is a small (compared to Vancouver) learning community with over 8,300 students from 40 countries. The Okanagan campus first opened its doors in 2005 in Kelowna, in the Okanagan Valley (hence the name).
The Okanagan campus is located in the heart of British Columbia. No wonder the Okanagan Valley is considered one of the most picturesque places in Canada. Campus students can watch the changeable weather that changes depending on the seasons, enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery and endless forests. The choice of entertainment is especially great: there are skiing, hiking, rock climbing, golf, cycling and many other activities. The Okanagan has long been famous for its wine festivals, original exhibitions, theatrical performances or other cultural events. Each student will find something to their liking.
The Okanagan Campus is the gateway to endless possibilities!
UBC University is an extraordinary experience unlike any other. Students of both campuses live in special student residences (Totem Park, Place Vanier, Orchard Commons, etc.), where they can meet new people and become part of an unforgettable atmosphere. Student residences are equipped with single, double and triple rooms with internet and showers. Each residence also has a kitchen, dining room and laundry facilities.
As for meals, students can cook on their own, visit cafes and restaurants, or eat in the canteen. Professional chefs offer many different dishes including soups, bitters, salads, sandwiches, pizza, diet meals, vegetarian menus and much more.
Students have at their disposal the UBC library, which contains 7.8 million copies of printed materials, including 2.1 million e-books, more than 370 thousand electronic journals. The UBC University Library is the second largest research library in Canada.
Currently, more than 11 thousand people live in 13 residences.
In their free time, students can attend various sections and circles, go to theaters, restaurants, special student clubs, or attend regular lectures with invited celebrities and simply well-known specialists in their industry. The Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery also operates on the territory of the university, where exhibitions, presentations, lectures, symposia on the history of art, etc. are held.

So, on October 19, 2015, Canada elected a new government headed by a prime minister. The ruling party was the Liberal Party and its leader, Justin Trudeau, took over as Prime Minister of Canada. At this time, the Conservatives in a long 9 years ended, and Stephen Harper withdrew his powers as head of state. With the change of government cabinet, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada also changed. It was John McCallum. What do these changes mean for international students and potential immigrants? According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada itself, positive changes are coming to increase the total number of new permanent residents of Canada, including through family reunification programs, changes to the Express Entry system and restoring the maximum age for sponsored children to 22 years old. In addition, possible changes in relation to international students in Canada were also discussed. The new Prime Minister has reportedly promised to make immigration to Canada a bit easier and more feasible for students, in particular, he plans to remove the barriers that prevent foreign students from enrolling in the Canadian Experience Class immigration program. And we just have to follow the news closely and hope for good news!

05/08/201505/08/2015
People who want to get a work visa to Canada find hope again.
After the introduction of the new Express Entry immigration system, obtaining work visas to Canada in 2015 was actually stopped. Typically, such pauses occur when certain changes need to be made. The same thing happened with work visas. And on April 30, 2015, these innovations were finally presented and put into effect. First of all, the following criteria were updated: the average hourly wage by specialty and by region, which sorted all vacant positions into “high wage” and “low wage”. As before, in order to obtain a work permit for a foreign worker, the employer must first apply to ESDC, Economic and Social Development Canada. As a result of their work, a Canadian company can receive a positive LMIA (formerly LMO), a labor market assessment that essentially means that this position cannot be filled by local workers and entitles them to invite an employee from abroad. Under the new rules, ESDC compares the salary offered for a job with the provincial average salary and categorizes an employer's request into one of the "high salary" and "low salary" categories based on this. If the level of wages is below the average for the province, then the requirements are one, if higher, then others.High pay flow
Under this category, the employer must provide a company action plan to reduce the business's dependence on foreign workers (Transition plan). The use of foreign labor should be a temporary phenomenon.![](https://i1.wp.com/intercanada.ru/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/%D0%9F%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%83%D1%87%D0%B8%D1%82%D1%8C-%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BE%D1%87%D1%83%D1%8E-%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B7%D1%83-%D0%B2-%D0%9A%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%B4%D1%83.png)
Low wage flow
This category does not require the preparation of such a plan (Transition plan), but there are other requirements. A Canadian employer does not have the right to exceed the limit on the number of foreign workers with low wages. In addition, obtaining an LMIA for some work positions in areas such as: Accommodation, Food, Retail - will be severely limited. Employers who offer wages below the provincial average are required to: pay for the employee's transportation services (to Canada and back), ensure the availability of affordable housing for the worker, pay for an employee's temporary health insurance until they become eligible for provincial health insurance, provide a work contract. For all low wage positions, the duration of the work permit will be limited to 1 year. Starting April 30, 2015, the most up-to-date unemployment data in the regions will be taken into account when issuing work visas to Canada. These metrics will determine in which regions employers may be eligible to invite a foreign worker to a low wage/low-skill position in the areas of Accommodation, Food and Retail. LMIA applications will not be considered for these industries in regions with unemployment rates of 6 percent or more.Expedited processing of documents for a work visa to Canada
For certain high-paying and high-paying occupations in Canada, as well as short-term vacancies, expedited review services can be provided - within only 10 business days. Applying for an LMIA requires a very serious approach on the part of the employer and involves the collection of a number of supporting documents and statistical information, for example, data on the number of applicants for a position among local residents, the number of unqualified applicants for a position, and more.01/21/201501/21/2015

01/06/201501/06/2015
Effective January 1, 2015, the federal government of Canada has dramatically increased fees for Canadian citizenship applications.
This is the second significant fee increase in less than a year. In February 2014, the amount of the fee was raised from 100 Canadian dollars to 300. Now, from January 1, 2015, the cost of services for considering an application for citizenship is 530 Canadian dollars.
In addition to the $530, there is still a so-called Right of Citizenship fee of $100 Canadian.
According to the Canadian Department of Immigration and Citizenship Canada, the new rates will cover the cost of processing each application, which is about 555 Canadian dollars. Thus, price increases will remove the additional burden on taxpayers.
The new fees can be found on the official website CIC.
Below we provide comparative information on the cost of similar services in other countries. As you can see, the most affordable contributions in Australia are $264 in Canadian currency. In the UK, by contrast, citizenship is truly a luxury that will cost you £959 or CAD 1,740. That's it! There is something to appreciate.

Canada's Most Popular Cities for Immigration 2014
10/04/201410/04/2014
As of 2014, Canada compiled a list of cities attracting the largest number of immigrants in the category of skilled immigrants. The top six included such Canadian cities as:
Calgary, Alberta
Vancouver, British Columbia
Ottawa, Ontario
Waterloo, Ontario
Richmond Hill, Ontario
St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
The main criteria for this study were such indicators as: the health care system, the state of the economy, the state of the environment, the level of the education system, innovation, the situation with residential real estate and social structure.
Calgary owes its first place primarily to the current state of its economy and a significant shift in innovation. But at the same time, it should be noted that it is significant growth that is the cause of a somewhat weakened state of affairs in such areas as education and health care. The city simply cannot keep up with the pace of development and population growth.
Vancouver, as always, is famous for the state of the environment and the integrity of the population. The city's beauty and temperate climate attract many new immigrants.
Ottawa also stood out for its social structure. In addition, such areas as education, innovation and the economy were also at their best.
Waterloo itself is the cradle of numerous start-ups (new companies), so it is not surprising that the level of innovative technologies in the city is very high, as well as education and economy.
The Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill has excelled in education, innovation and community. It is this city that annually produces the largest number of graduates in the field of engineering, mathematical and natural sciences per capita.
The surprise in this list was the city of St. John's, which showed simply incredible results in one of the criteria, the healthcare system. The strong economic performance was underpinned by the region's impressive oil wealth.

Population of Canada 2014 and projections for 2038
09/25/201409/25/2014
According to a September 2014 report by Statistics Canada, Canada's population will continue to grow over the next 50 years, reaching between 39.35 million and 43.47 million by 2038 and between 40 million and 63.5 million by 2063. It is not possible to obtain more accurate data, since there are too many different scenarios for the development of the situation, which is affected by such factors as: birth rate, death rate and immigration rates. Under a medium growth scenario, the population of Canada will grow from 35.2 million people (in 2013) to 51 million people by 2063.
Province of British Columbia
British Columbia's population could grow to 6,662,000 by 2038. To date, the population of the province is 4 million 582 thousand people, of which about 2.5 million live in Greater Vancouver (Metro Vancouver) and 800 thousand - on Vancouver Island. The province crossed the 4 million mark in 1999-2000.Province of Ontario
By all scenarios, Ontario's population will grow steadily over the next 25 years. And from 13.6 million in 2014 will reach a population of between 14.8 and 18.3 million by 2038, which will allow this territory of Canada to remain the most populous province in Canada.Province of Alberta
By all measures and under all development options, Alberta's population growth will be the fastest in Canada. According to calculations, the population will reach 5.6 - 6.8 million people by 2038. This is compared to 4 million in 2013. This growth will allow Alberta to surpass British Columbia in terms of population.Canada's population by province and growth projections

Immigration program to Canada for 2015
04/18/201404/18/2014
The Express Entry or "fast track" immigration program will be launched in January 2015. Initially, the program was called "Expression of Interest".
This immigration program to Canada promises to be something completely innovative in the field of immigration and is aimed at improving the country's economy and providing it with the necessary labor resources.
The Immigration Express program is particularly flexible and will help you fill vacancies that cannot be filled by local workers. This will attract the necessary labor force to the regions. Under the terms of this program, applicants who receive job offers, as well as immigrants who participate in the Provincial Nominee Program, will be offered permanent resident status. This is the main advantage of the new program compared to the Temporary Worker program, which was focused only on temporary employment of foreign workers.
The program "Express Immigration" is intended for qualified specialists who will be able to submit a questionnaire with information about work experience and education to the general system (pool). If the candidate meets the minimum requirements of the program, then his file will be assigned a rank relative to other questionnaires received from candidates. The Government of Canada, in turn, will consider them and invite the most qualified professionals to apply for permanent resident status in Canada. In addition, the application data will also be searchable by Canadian companies, and those who receive a valid job offer or are nominated for provincial immigration will also be able to automatically apply for immigration.
This method seems to the Canadian government to be more effective, as it allows those who have a better chance of success in Canada to immigrate, and not those who are first in line with immigration documents, as was the case before.
At the same time, qualified personnel will be able to count on shorter terms for processing documents - 6 months or less.
This program will serve as an excellent resource for employers to find valuable employees.

High school in Canada
04/09/201404/09/2014
The ranking of high schools in British Columbia is based on the academic performance of students for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. In compiling this ranking, 293 educational institutions (both public and private high schools in the province) were considered and the scores of the annual provincial examinations were taken into account in seven indicators:
average grade for the exam,
percentage of students who fail the exam
the difference between the average academic score and the score for the exam,
the difference in results in English between female and male students,
the difference in results in mathematics between female and male students,
percentage of graduates
percentage of repeaters.
Private schools again dominate and top the list. York House High School Canada and Crofton House School shared the top spot on this list for the second year in a row. Both schools are located in Vancouver.
The highest place that a Canadian public school in the province of British Columbia has managed to take is 21 positions in the ranking and the Lord Byng school, also located in the largest city in the province (Vancouver).
Below is a part of this rating for your reference. A complete list can be found on this website. secondary school rankings .
Immigration to Quebec - limits for 2014
04/08/201404/08/2014
Limits on Quebec immigration programs for 2014 announced. These quantitative restrictions affected the category of skilled worker, investor and entrepreneur.
Quebec Skilled Worker Program - 6,500 applications will be accepted between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. This is a very significant decrease in the number of applications accepted compared to the previous limit of 20,000.
Quebec Investor Program - 1,750 applications will be accepted between 8 and 19 September 2014 (two weeks total). At the same time, no more than 1,200 applicants from any one country.
Quebec Entrepreneurship Program - 500 applications in total will be considered by the Quebec government.
Of course, with such restrictions on the number of accepted documents, immigration to Quebec, although it is still very attractive, requires a very careful approach to the formation of a package of documents and does not allow any miscalculations and errors in execution.
Toronto Attractions - $60 Million Year-Round Summer
03/25/201403/25/2014
A new theme park is due to open its doors in Toronto in 2016. Toronto's landmarks are world famous, including Niagara Falls, the CN Tower (one of the tallest buildings in the world), but the new park is predicted to be one of the city's biggest tourist attractions in the past three decades.
about the project
The final decision on the location of the park has not yet been made. Three options are currently being considered. As planned, this project will be an island of summer for residents and guests of the city for all 365 days a year, which is especially important with the frosty winters characteristic of the province. On the territory of 9,300 square meters there will be sandy beaches, wave pools, restaurants, cafes and other recreational facilities. The park will be equipped with a huge retractable roof that will turn it into an outdoor and indoor complex depending on the season, thus ensuring uninterrupted operation all year round. The cost of the future project is estimated at $60 million. According to experts, the island of summer will create about 230 new jobs for local residents and will attract more than 500,000 tourists in the first year.
Jobs in Alberta
03/20/201403/20/2014
The province of Alberta has shown incredible performance in terms of the number of new jobs over the past year. According to recent statistical surveys, there have been 82,000 new job positions in the province in the past 12 months. Compare that to the national total of 95,000. That is, the province of Alberta accounts for about 87% of all new jobs in Canada.
General trends in the province
Work in Alberta is really gaining momentum in parallel with the overall growth and development of the province itself. Of course, this is largely due to the development of Canada's natural resources, which are rich in Alberta. Engineering, mining and construction professionals are in high demand. Vacancies are filled by both Canadians, immigrants from neighboring provinces, and foreign temporary workers. By the way, in the last year alone, about 81,000 foreign workers received permanent resident status in Alberta.
Data:
The total population of Alberta as of February 2014 was approximately 3,236,300.
Total number of employed population as of February 2014 - 2,364,200
Unemployment rate for February 2014 - 4.3%

Port of Vancouver: 2013 figures
03/04/201403/04/2014
The Port of Vancouver, Canada's largest port, has announced its 2013 results to the public. According to the report, in 2013 the port will continue its growth trend, including repeating the record volumes of container traffic.
Indicators for 2013
Thus, over the past year, the Port of Vancouver handled a record amount of cargo - 135 million tons, which is 9% more than in the previous 2012.
Bulk cargo transportation grew by 11% in 2013, mainly due to the transportation of coal and grain.
Cruise traffic jumped by 22%, which certainly provided additional stimulation to the tourism sector. Thus, the port welcomed 812,398 passengers in 2013.
The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest gateway, handling up to 19 percent of the country's total trade. The port's operations provide employment to about 57,000 people in the Lower Mainland (southwest mainland British Columbia) and about 100,000 people across Canada.

Canada's Alcohol Laws Exceeded Expectations
02/26/201402/26/2014
BC's tougher drunk driving laws have been more than satisfactory.
Recall that the changes were made in September 2010 in memory of 4-year-old Alexandra, who died in 2008 under the wheels of a drunk driver's car. Then the court, having taken into consideration all the circumstances of the incident, sentenced the guilty to 2.5 years in prison.
Changes effective September 2010
According to the innovations adopted in 2010, drivers face the following punishment for blood alcohol content:
First warning: BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml |
Immediate removal of the driver's license for 3 days Possible removal of the car to the penalty area for 3 days Fine of 200 Kan dollars |
Second warning (for 5 years): BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml |
Immediate withdrawal of the driver's license for 7 days Possible withdrawal of the car to the penalty area for 7 days Fine of 300 Kan dollars |
Third warning (for 5 years): BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml |
Immediate suspension of driving license for 30 days Possible seizure of the car to a fine site for 30 days Fine of 400 Kan dollars |
Failed blood alcohol test: BAC exceeds 0.08 mg per 100 ml Or refusal to sample |
Immediate revocation of driver's license for 90 days Possible seizure of the car to a fine site for 30 days Fine of 500 Kan dollars Possible referral for treatment |
Results for 3 years
This is not to say that Canada's anti-alcohol laws are particularly tough, but they certainly give results. Thus, the number of deaths due to alcohol intoxication decreased by a significant 52% in just 3 years after the adoption of this law, in numbers, this is from 112 deaths per year to 54.
During the existence of this law (from September 2010 to December 2013), more than 22,000 drivers received warnings and more than 39,000 received the highest degree of punishment.
In Ontario, immigration should work for the benefit of the province
The Ontario government is committed to acting to attract more immigrants and prevent immigration fraud.
Suggested Changes
The province is still facing the problem of a shortage of qualified specialists in certain sectors and industries. And so in Ontario, immigration and provincial programs must reflect the state of the labor market. The bill proposed by the province will give it more control over the selection of candidates for immigration.
The government wants to increase the number of economic immigrants allowed under the provincial nominee program from the current limit of 1,300 to 5,000.
In addition, it is proposed to increase the penalties for immigrants for providing false information during the processing of an immigration application.

Real estate in Canada is no longer so easy to buy
02/08/201402/08/2014
Vancouver is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful cities not only in Canada, but also in the world. Of course, this status entails some negative aspects.
This, of course, affects its popularity in terms of buying real estate, especially by foreign investors, which sometimes entails an unreasonable increase in prices. First of all, local residents suffer from this.
Property in Canada Prices:
According to research by the Canadian Real Estate Association, the average cost of a home in Halifax is CAD 273,792, in Toronto it is CAD 541,637 and in Vancouver it is CAD 825,635.
Over the past 17 years, the price of residential space in Vancouver has increased by an average of 5.5% annually. And if this trend continues, it will be very difficult for an ordinary worker to buy real estate in Canada.
Already today, Vancouver residents are thinking about the question - to buy or rent. And many tend to the second option. It at least does not include maintenance costs/fees, property taxes and other contingencies.
Immigration to Canada of parents closed until 2015
02/04/201402/04/2014
It only took a month to reach the maximum number of parent sponsorship applications for 2014. Five thousand new packages of documents have been accepted and the program for immigrating to Canada for parents is closed until next year.
By the end of this year, Canada plans to accept about 20,000 new residents through the parent and grandparent sponsorship program.
Parents Immigration to Canada is a very popular family category immigration program. And the task of the immigration service is to minimize the waiting period for obtaining an immigrant visa for this class.
If you haven't made it to the top 5,000 applicants for this program, don't despair. There is still a Super Visa program for parents, which can brighten up the wait until the next new launch of the sponsorship program. To date, approximately 28,000 Super Visas have been issued. Almost 98% of applicants received positive results.
Super Visa - multiple entry visa for parents and grandparents. It is issued for a period of 10 years and allows you to stay in Canada for up to 2 years without the need to renew your status, that is, leave Canada.
Multivisa to Canada
Significant changes come into effect on February 6, 2014. All visa applications to Canada will automatically be considered for a Multivisa, i.e. a multiple entry visa. The concept of a one-time visa will no longer exist.
A multivisa to Canada allows tourists to visit the country for 10 years without having to reapply for a visa. But the maximum duration of each stay should not exceed 6 months. Of course, this condition does not apply to foreign students and temporary workers. The duration of each stay is determined by the duration of the Study Permit and the Work Permit.
New amounts of Consular fees
Along with this innovation, the size of the Consular fees was also revised:
Single entry temporary resident visa - abolished (cost 75 Kan dollars)
Temporary resident multivisa / tourist multivisa - cost reduced from 150 to 100 Kan dollars)
The maximum amount of fees per family for visas - the cost has increased from 400 to 500 Kan dollars
Study Permit - cost increased from 125 to 150 Kan dollars
Work Permit - cost increased from 150 to 155 Kan dollars
Maximum fee for a Work Permit for creative teams of 3 or more people - the cost has increased from 450 to 465 Can dollars
Canadian passport - longer but faster
01/28/201401/28/2014
This news concerns not only those wishing to immigrate to Canada, but also residents with PR status.
The Parliament of Canada in 2014 intends to review the procedure for obtaining the status of a citizen of Canada.
Changes to the conditions and procedure for applying for a Canadian passport have not been made for more than 25 years. According to forecasts, the changes will affect the following points.
Wait longer - get faster
Presumably, now an immigrant will have to live in Canada as a permanent resident longer before he can apply for a Canadian passport. This possible change is justified by the fact that immigrants should get to know the country better and deeper before obtaining local citizenship. To date, the period of residence (actual presence in Canada) must be 3 years out of the last four - only after that, a permanent resident of Canada, subject to all other conditions, can submit documents for obtaining citizenship status.
But the procedure for considering an application, according to forecasts, should be reduced. Applicants will be able to obtain a Canadian passport in a shorter time frame. Currently, the average waiting time for applications for Canadian citizenship is 2 to 3 years.
Circumstances for deprivation of citizenship
Changes are also expected to give the government the right to revoke citizenship in exceptional circumstances, such as treason or complicity in terrorist acts.
Passport as a gift for adulthood
Sore is also the issue of obtaining citizenship by babies born in Canada. Tourism of pregnant women to Canada is quite common, especially from Asian countries. A child born in Canada is eligible for a Canadian passport upon reaching the age of majority.
This problem is also supposed to be considered and solutions found, but a little later. Provincial governments are also involved here (maternity hospitals are the province of regulation), so the discussions should take place with their participation.
Tickets to Toronto - go for everyone!
01/23/201401/23/2014
And again, Aeroflot pleases with its special offers for flights Moscow - Toronto - Moscow and St. Petersburg - Toronto - St. Petersburg.
If you have been planning a trip to Canada's largest city for a long time, then here it is, perhaps, the perfect moment - affordable tickets to Toronto.
According to Aeroflot's official website, the cost of the most attractive ticket from Moscow starts from 20,267 rubles, from St. Petersburg - from 20,601 rubles, all taxes and fees are included.
The sales period is unlimited, but the shipping period ends on March 30, 2014. The maximum stay at the destination is 30 days.
A great time to visit relatives and friends or travel for tourism purposes!
Education in Canada for foreigners - new government plans
01/20/201401/20/2014
The Government of Canada has announced its ambitious plans for International Education. The goal is to double the number of international students and researchers who come to Canada for education, and by 2022 to bring this figure to 450 thousand!
Where are students expected from?
It is expected that the bulk of new students will come from such areas as:
Brazil, China, India, Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East, Vietnam.
And this is to the already existing stable flows from
France, UK, Germany, Japan, Korea and USA.
Whether the government will be able to implement such an ambitious plan, time will tell, but past years' performance adds to the enthusiasm. Thus, in 2012, the number of foreign students in Canada already amounted to 265,000 people, which is 11% more than in the previous year.
Of course, there is a huge difference between 265 thousand in 2012 and 450 thousand by 2022. But this only emphasizes the seriousness of the Canadian government's intentions to bring the country on a par with the leaders in the educational sector in terms of the number of international students - the United States and Australia.
For comparison:
In 2012 - 2013 - 819,644 international students studied at American colleges and universities,
In 2012 - 2013 - 515,853 international students were educated in Australia.
According to current estimates, Canada accounts for only 5% of the world's international student flow and is ranked 7th in the world in terms of popularity after the US, UK, China, France, Germany and Australia.
Education in Canada for foreigners is prestigious, because Canada is a truly unique country, a multinational, friendly and safe country. And Canadian education meets the highest world standards. It is one thing to convey this idea and present it on the international education market. But according to many experts, in order to achieve its goals of attracting international students, the government will also have to concentrate on resolving other issues, including visa and immigration:
facilitating the process of obtaining a Study Permit;
enabling international full-time students to work in Canada without having to apply for a Work Permit.

Rising property prices in Canada
01/08/201401/08/2014
With the growing popularity of Canada, the rapid increase in the number of new residents of the maple leaf country and the stable situation in the economy, prices for Canadian real estate continue to rise.
Cost: Yearly performance and projections
So, according to the results of 2012, the average cost of a residential building was 380 thousand Canadian dollars. This figure is based on the results of studies in 25 major cities in Canada. If you take Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, then the amount will at least double. The price of 380,000 Canadian dollars is a record for Canada in the history of residential real estate. But is this the limit?
According to forecasts, by the end of this year, the average cost will increase by another 2.5 percent, by about 10,000 Canadian dollars. Alberta, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Saskatchewan are expected to be the leaders in price growth.
What about the demand?
The rise in real estate prices in Canada, of course, does not please local residents, but even with such trends, the demand for real estate in Canada does not decrease. In the new 2014, about 475 thousand transactions with residential real estate are expected.
Fair for Immigrants: Success in Vancouver
01/03/201401/03/2014
For the first time in Vancouver on December 16, 2013, the annual Career, Education, Settlement Fair for immigrants was held. And the first pancake did not turn out to be lumpy at all, on the contrary - the event went off with a bang!
The previous three fairs were successfully held in Toronto. In the same year, it was decided to hold this event on the territory of the central public library of the city of Vancouver.
Details of the event in Vancouver
The fair went on all day and it seemed that the flow of people wishing to visit this event was inexhaustible.
The doors opened at 11 am and a variety of sources of information were at the service of the new residents of Canada: stands, seminars, consultations. The main goal of the event is to help immigrants navigate the new labor and education market. To help them at the fair there were specialists from various fields, including job search, assessment of diplomas, advanced training, and others. Throughout the day, there were free seminars and information sessions on writing a resume and preparing for a job interview.
At 7 pm the work of the fair ended and its results were appreciated - a lot of positive feedback and thanks were received from participants and visitors.
Canadian experience class, program changes
12/17/201312/17/2013
Once again, some changes have been made to the immigration rules of one of the most popular Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs, the Canadian Experience.
What is the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)?
This program is primarily suitable for temporary residents of Canada who came to the country on a work visa, as well as foreign students who completed their studies in Canada and received a subsequent Work Permit (Post-Graduate Work Permit). The main requirements for the program: 12 months of work experience in Canada (skilled work experience, full-time, legal) and an appropriate level of English proficiency.
Canadian Experience Class Changes
First of all, a limit was set on the number of applications for this program for the coming year, more precisely from November 9, 2013 to October 31, 2014 - 12,000 applications. And all applications accepted on November 9, 2013 and after are subject to the new rules.
1) The following specialties are no longer eligible for the CEC program:
Cookies
Food Service Supervisors
administrative officers
Administrative assistants
Accounting Technicians and Bookkeepers
Retail Sales Supervisors
Only those documents in these specialties that were submitted for consideration before November 9 will be considered.
2) Moreover, under the new rules, only the first 200 applications for each category “B” NOC index (National Occupation Classification) will be accepted for consideration.
Yes, this imposes a certain pressure and extra stress on those wishing to immigrate under this program. Be careful when filling out the documents, because incorrectly prepared documents can lead to their return, and subsequent applications to fill the existing limit in the specialty.

The Minister of Housing has pleased landlords in Alberta and crushed the hopes of tenants once again - rent in Alberta will not become cheaper.
The origins of the problem
The fact is that due to the impressive influx of immigrants to the province of Alberta, the cost of rental housing in Alberta has risen significantly in price. An additional incentive to rise in prices is the relatively high level of wages in the province of oil and gas. According to a recent statistical study, the average wage per week in August was $1,117.58 Canadian dollars per week, which is about $8 Canadian dollars per hour more than, for example, in the same province of Prince Edward.
These factors have affected the growth in prices in the field of rental housing in Alberta. In one year, from April 2012 to April 2013, the market rose by an average of 7.2%.
So will housing in Alberta be cheaper?
Frustrated tenants voiced their outrage at rising rental prices, but the answer was unequivocal - the government would not interfere in the free market with its price controls. Therefore, housing in Alberta, or rather its availability, is in the hands of property owners.
The Minister explained his decision to stay away from the constraints of rising rental prices in Alberta by the fact that landlords have to cope with their risks too. After all, when the market crashes, as it did in 2008 (for example, the cost of rent fell from 1,900 to 1,100 Canadian dollars), the property owner / investor is also not protected by the state.
Sponsorship of parents 2014
Family immigration
The Canada Parent Sponsorship Program is relaunching in 2014. Documents will be accepted from January 2 next year. Although the application limit is currently 5,000 completed applications, it is expected that a total of about 20,000 visas will be issued in this direction (parents and grandparents).
The fact is that since 2011, the Canadian Immigration Service has accumulated a lot of pending applications, which they promise to sort out first.
And according to the forecasts, by 2014 the terms of consideration of documents for the sponsorship of parents will be about 2 - 2.5 years, by 2015 - only 1 - 2 years.
