materials

One or more essential oils that you like.

Alcohol base - you can use alcohol of 95% concentration, or vodka, only high quality and without additives. The quality of the aroma will directly depend on the quality of the alcohol base.

Myrrh, sandalwood, vanilla are aromatic fixing oils that fix the fragrance and allow it to last for a long time, giving off its scent. For scented lotion, you can use castor oil or grape seed oil as a fixative.

Pipette, preferably glass. For measuring liquids drop by drop.

A few vials or bottles, always glass - it is in such that perfume is best preserved.

Cooking process

Using a pipette, measure out the amount of fixative, oils and alcohol base that you need. Place all this in a bottle or vial, and mix all the ingredients.

Before adding the next essential oil to the vial, you need to wipe the pipette with alcohol or vodka.

There are no strict proportions in perfumery, everything will depend on your taste.

We bring to your attention a lot of recipes of already created and tested aromas that you can try on yourself. We hope that among the recipes below, you will find one that will be to your liking, will be your faithful ally, will create the right mood, endow you with the necessary qualities and will inspire you to create your own perfume composition!

"Morning Breeze"

  • 100 ml alcohol base (30% alcohol in 70% water);
  • 15 drops of bergamot oil;
  • 10 drops of rosemary oil;
  • 5 drops of sandalwood;
  • 5 drops neroli oil

pink perfume

The rose is not in vain considered the queen of flowers. Her fragrance is loved all over the world. There is practically no perfume fragrance where a note of rose would not be used. Try to make your own unique rose perfume. The recipe is very simple.

In a small glass bottle, mix the following ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon alcohol (vodka)
  • 6 drops of rose essential oil (essential oil of rose)
  • 3 drops of essential oil of geranium (essential oil of geranium)
  • 8 drops of sandalwood essential oil

Carefully shift, put in a cool place for about 1 week.

Depending on the source, rose essential oil can sound very deep, rich, sweet-floral or, conversely, slightly spicy and unobtrusive. Damask (Bulgarian) or Сentifolia (French cabbage) rose oils are most preferred for perfume composition. With its velvety floral smoothness, these roses will soften any pungent notes that have arisen in your unique perfume.

It is not necessary to strictly adhere to the above recipe.

Try to make some changes - replace one or two components with other essential oils, for example, add lavender, jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla or bergamot. All of these fragrances pair well with a rose note.

In a word, experiment, look empirically for the most optimal aromatic solution for you. And, most importantly, do not forget to write down what, when and how you did it.

The scent of the tropics

If you are not a fan of rose fragrances, but prefer the exciting, sparkling smell of the tropics and spices, then the following recipe is just for you!

Take a glass vessel of medium volume and mix in it:

  • 1 glass of vodka
  • 2 tablespoons rum
  • 2 tablespoons orange blossom water
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cloves
  • 3 tablespoons orange zest
  • 4 large bay leaves

Place in a dark place and shake the contents of the vial daily for a week.

At the end of the term, strain and add essential oils in the following quantity:

  • 30 drops orange (essential oil of orange)
  • 4 drops of lavender (essential oil of lavender)
  • 3 drops of neroli or orange flower oil (essential oil of neroli, or orange-flower).

Put it back in a dark place for 1-2 weeks. This rather light eau de toilette can be poured into atomizers. In hot weather, store the bottle of fragrance in the refrigerator.

Citrus cologne

The smell of citrus is one of the most popular natural refreshing scents. It is an excellent depressant. This refreshing cologne is easy to make.

Mix in a small bottle:

  • 1/2 tablespoon alcohol
  • 6 drops of essential oil of orange (essential oil of orange)
  • 6 drops of essential oil of bergamot (essential oil of bergamot)
  • 2 drops of lavender essential oil (essential oil of lavender)
  • 1 drop of rosemary essential oil (essential oil of rosemary)
  • 2 drops of rosewood (rosewood) essential oil (essential oil of rosewood)
  • 1 drop of peppermint essential oil (essential oil of peppermint)

Since the mint flavor is very saturated, it can "break" the perfume composition. If the peppermint flavor is too intense for your taste, dilute 1 drop of peppermint essential oil in half a tablespoon of alcohol or vodka.

Shake well and leave to infuse in a dark, cool place for one week.

The resulting cologne combines the classic trio - citruses, lavender and rosemary. The fragrance of rosewood and floral-woody oils from tropical trees act as a scent fixative. The mint adds a fresh, spicy note to the fragrance.

Lilac

The sweet aroma of lilac evokes the most romantic associations. It is appropriate at any time of the day and year.

The aroma of lilac saves from melancholy, cheers up, gives freshness of spirit and cheerfulness.

We need a small bottle in which we need to mix the following components:

  • 1/2 tablespoon alcohol
  • 2 drops of lilac essential oil (essential oil of lilac or lilac-fragrance oil)
  • 2 drops of rose essential oil (essential oil of rose)
  • 1 drop of ylang-ylang essential oil (essential oil of ylang-ylang)
  • 2 drops of essential oil of balsam of Peru (essential oil of balsam of Peru)
  • 1 drop of iris essential oil (essential oil of orris or iris)

If, for some reason, iris essential oil is not available, replace it with violet oil or exclude it from the recipe altogether. If iris oil sounds too rich for your taste, dilute it in the same proportions as the peppermint oil in the previous recipe.

Shake vigorously and remove to infuse for a week.

Make perfume probably everyone wanted their own dream with their own hands, because the magical, sensual and alluring world of aromas cannot but attract a person. Sweet notes of vanilla, passionate smell of roses, tart patchouli ether - everyone has their own preferences, commitment to certain smells has been inherent in human nature since ancient times. Even ancient people chose a mate for themselves, guided by a specific amber coming from the opposite sex. At the level of instincts, they read information about this person, learned everything about him, as they say, without words. It was at that time that the idea arose to use various fragrant gifts of nature to aromatize one's own body. And in our time, the perfume industry is developed unusually widely, and in stores the range of perfumes can amaze with the number of aromas and compositions from them.

But, most likely, many are faced with a familiar situation when, when visiting a perfume shop, we cannot decide whether to choose exactly the right shade, exactly those notes that are supposed to benefit the image that was chosen with difficulty. In addition, it is quite difficult to find out in the store how exactly this or that brand of perfume will play in interaction with the customer’s own smell, and how it will be felt, for example, in an hour.

Why, then, guided by the experience of our ancestors, not create for yourself a fragrance that ideally reflects the individual inner world and your own passions.

What is needed to make homemade perfume?

In order to make perfume with your own hands, you should learn a little to understand the material. The basis of any perfume will be essential oils, which in various combinations will create your unique aroma.

So spend one day memorizing the aromas of natural essential oils. Ordinary photographic paper, which should be cut into thin strips, can help you with this. Label each strip with the exact oil you are using. Then apply one drop per strip and give yourself a mini-exam. With your eyes closed, inhale the aroma of the oil, and then read the name. Bring your knowledge to automatism, you should only guess by one smell, without opening your eyes, which oil you will bring right now.

After that, prepare the necessary inventory:

  • cut clean strips of photo paper;
  • one glass container for mixing;
  • a set of essential oils;
  • glass pipette;
  • pure ethyl alcohol as a base for liquid perfumes;
  • odorless jojoba oil as a base for oil perfumes;
  • beeswax as a basis for dry perfume;
  • glass bottles for finished perfumes.

The perfume making process

Any perfume consists of three phases in action. Each phase is made up of fragrances, depending on the persistence of the essential oils:

  • The first phase is the initial note. It is these smells that we hear in the first 15-20 minutes after application to the body. As a rule, these are citrus aromas, mimosa, basil, mint, anise, rosewood, lavender, lavandin and many others.
  • The second phase is the main note. The heart of the perfume opens after half an hour. They use floral aromas, essential oils, musk, fennel, pine, cinnamon, tobacco, thyme, nutmeg, cloves and others to create the main note.
  • The third phase is the base note. "Aftertaste" of the fragrance. They leave a light, slightly noticeable aroma, which is also called a plume. These include essential oils of myrrh, frankincense, and most woody fragrances such as frankincense, patchouli, vetiver, and tree moss.

Some flavors can also be used to create other phases, the main thing is to maintain a single composition, the overall character of the product.

How to make homemade perfume by creating your own fragrance? Simple enough. First of all, it is always necessary to compose the composition of the “heart of spirits”. Apply a drop of essential oils belonging to this group to signed strips of photographic paper. After that, bring various combinations of these smells to your nose, choose exactly the combination that you like.

After that, add one flavor of the main note. Do not rush to combine several fragrances at once, as you will not be able to catch the necessary combination, and you may get confused which combination you might like.

Lastly, add the oils of the initial note in exactly the same way. After you prepare the desired composition, apply it on a cotton scarf and leave for 1-2 hours. If after this time you will like the fragrance, then you have made the right choice.

Do not immediately chase complex compositions. Make a simple perfume for yourself for the first time, where two or three oils will be present in each note.

The proportion of oils used should be as follows - (1/2/3), depending on what smell should play in the first, second or third phase. But this rule is not strict, everyone determines for himself the intensity of this or that ingredient, depending on his own preferences.

After that, in a glass container with a pipette, mix the oils of your choice in the proposed or your own proportion. Now you can proceed, directly, to the manufacture of perfume.

Decide what kind you would like to make. If the perfume is alcohol-based, then the concentration of the oil composition in alcohol can be 20-30%. If oil perfumes, then essential oils in the base oil are 10%, and dry perfumes can be prepared on the basis of beeswax in a 50/50 ratio. Pour the prepared perfume into a sterile glass bottle. Remember that alcohol perfumes after mixing should "mature" for at least three weeks in a dark, dry place, sometimes gently stir them, but do not shake. For oil perfumes, the ripening period is much shorter - no more than a week, and dry ones can be used immediately after preparation.

Thus, you can prepare yourself the necessary composition for each occasion. In addition, perfumes, composed individually for a certain person, can be a wonderful gift for him.

Making perfume is real magic!

As you create your dream fragrance, enjoy the process. Only in this way can you become like a fairy-tale sorceress who creates a magic potion, adding a drop of temptation, passion and love to it. Modern witches work wonders, armed with glass bottles and fragrant oils. But enchantments remain enchantments for all ages, and by giving others pleasure from your enchanting aura, you yourself reveal your femininity and sexuality.

How do you choose "your" scent? It would seem that there should be no difficulties here - there is a huge selection of perfumes in stores. But no - either the fragrance is not persistent, or it “sounds” on the skin not at all the way it was “planned” ... Or maybe leave futile attempts to find the perfect perfume among the brands on the market and make perfume yourself? With the experts of MedAboutMe we will understand the intricacies of the art of perfumery.

Specialists in the development of "custom" flavors use a variety of ingredients. At the disposal of the masters is a real laboratory - vegetable oils and fruit extracts, preservatives, fragrances. Let's start with the basics - we will make perfumes based on natural essential oils.

Each fragrance is built according to a certain principle. And here it is customary to “lay out” them according to notes - all perfumers adhere to this classification.

Do not rush to run to the nearest pharmacy for essential oils! First, you should decide which “direction” of the perfume you will create, because each component will give the composition its own unforgettable aroma.

There are 7 notes to create a musical composition. How many notes are in perfumery?

  • Upper

This is the fragrance that you hear immediately after applying perfume to the skin. It is the top note that determines the first impression of the perfume. She "plays" for a short time - up to 20 minutes.

The essential oils of the top note evaporate faster than the others. Here it is recommended to use the following types - lemon, grapefruit, rosewood, lime, mint, orange, bergamot, lavender.

  • Medium

This is the link between the top and base notes. The aroma is revealed gradually, allowing you to enjoy all the tones and semitones of the perfume. The middle note will be felt for up to 60 minutes.

Essential oils of jasmine, nutmeg, chamomile, juniper, thyme, violet, ylang-ylang, rosemary, geranium, violet are excellent as middle note fragrances.

  • Basic

This is the most "long-playing" note that you will feel for several hours in a row. It fixes the fragrance and gives the overall impression of the perfume.

To create a base note, the following essential oils are appropriate - cinnamon, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, pine, sandalwood.

The classic "formula" of perfume for the initial, middle and base notes is 1:2:3. When mixing a perfume composition with a base (oil or alcohol), you must adhere to a ratio of 1:4 or 1:5. If you are making alcohol perfumes, distilled water is additionally added to the mixture - in a ratio of 1:2 or 1:1 to the total volume of the base. It turns out that for mixing alcohol perfumes we will take 10 ml of alcohol, 5-10 ml of water and 10-17 drops of essential oils. The secret of making an oil perfume is 15-20 drops of essential oils per 10 ml of base.

In order for one note in the created perfume to smoothly replace another, it is important to observe the correct proportion. Decide which flavor will dominate the composition?

What "mood" will the spirits have?

There are many families of fragrances. And when choosing the essential oils that you will use, you should first of all decide what perfume you want to get "at the exit":

  • Invigorating aromas - bergamot, mint, sage, lavender, thyme.
  • Spicy aromas - cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves.
  • Floral fragrances - jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, orange tree.
  • Fresh aromas - grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, verbena, mandarin.
  • Oriental fragrances - frankincense, myrrh.
  • Herbal aromas - lemon balm, basil.

Since essential oils are highly concentrated substances and can cause burns on the skin, they must be diluted in the base when making “homemade” perfumes. It can be oil or medical alcohol.

The manufacturing technology of oil and alcohol perfumes is practically no different. Therefore, when choosing a base, focus not on which fragrance is easier to create, but on other factors - the durability of the composition, the storage period, the place where the perfume is applied.

Oil perfumes, as practice shows, are more persistent. But the aroma will turn out to be “restrained”, since the concentration of essential oils here will be somewhat less. Don't like strong smells? Then choose an oil base! For these purposes, jojoba or almond oil is perfect - they are odorless, which means they will not “kill” the bouquet you have created. Be careful - oil-based perfume leaves marks on clothes!

Alcoholic perfumes are more saturated, but exhale much faster. You will spend more time preparing them - the composition will have to “stand” for 2-4 weeks. Ready perfume is stored up to 3 months. Alcohol perfumes will not leave marks on clothes. A beginner perfumer will need 90% alcohol.

Starter Perfumer's Kit

Are you serious? Make sure that only high-quality ingredients are at your disposal for the preparation of perfumes! Alcohol and base oil for the base can be bought at a pharmacy - this should not be a problem. But the choice of essential oils approach with caution.

In cosmetic stores and pharmacies, as a rule, unnatural essential oils are presented - these are substances restored and diluted in soybean oil. These are suitable only for aromatization of rooms. But natural essential oils in perfumery are not the best option! They are quite "complex" in terms of their own smell and in the manufacture of perfume can give unpredictable flavors. Essential oils of perfume quality are much better - they undergo special purification, which makes it possible to obtain a clean, light aroma.

From the inventory for making perfumes you will need:

  • glass container for mixing perfume
  • dark glass container with a lid for "infusion" of perfumes,
  • cardboard test strips,
  • perfume spray bottles,
  • pipettes.

The fun begins! We turn on our imagination and start experimenting with the “sound” of aromas.

Start creating a fragrance with a base note - this fragrance will be the most persistent. Put a drop of essential oil on a paper-tester (blotter), the smell of which you like. And the final note of perfume will not necessarily consist of only one fragrance - try essential oils in combination. Sign the papers with a pencil - so you will not get lost in the smells.

To reveal a fragrant bouquet of notes, consisting of several essential oils, each of them must be applied to a separate blotter. Fold the papers in a fan and bring them to your nose to feel the beauty of the resulting aroma. You can vary the amount of certain components, choosing the best composition.

Have you chosen the base note? Now we move on to others - middle and upper. Combine oils for each note separately, and then in combination. And do not forget about the "formula" of spirits - 1:2:3. That is, in the end, you have to evaluate the composition, compiled exactly according to this rule.

Write down your every action, so that later you can choose the ideal perfume recipe for yourself - the amount of each of the essential oils may vary. The process is very exciting - experiment!

"Mixing" spirits

Creating a bouquet is the most difficult stage in the manufacture of "home" perfumes. Now it's up to the small - to bring the idea to life. The technology of "mixing" perfume is as follows:

  • Wash and dry all work equipment first.
  • Pour the required amount of base - oil or alcohol - into a dark glass container.
  • Now, drop by drop, according to the recipe, add essential oils to it. First the components of the middle note, then the base note, lastly the top note. Shake the container after adding each component!
  • Place the bottle in a dark place for "infusion". Shake it every 3 days.
  • After a couple of weeks, check if the composition has acquired the desired “sound”. If not, we hold on.
  • Ready-made perfumes can then be poured into small spray bottles.

Oil perfumes can not be insisted at all, but immediately used for their intended purpose. If you want to get a deeper flavor, keep the mixture for no more than 2 weeks.

Do not forget that the spirits prepared by you have a short life - the aroma will either fizzle out or change its sound not for the better. Therefore, do not prepare perfume in reserve!

Making perfume is a real art! This will be confirmed by every perfumer. If you have not yet learned all the intricacies of the case, you can take several interesting perfume recipes as a basis:

Helpful Hints

You are sure to impress anyone with a homemade perfume that is scented with fresh flowers and free of toxins and harmful chemicals.

A great fragrance can be made up of a thousand ingredients, but sometimes a wonderful smell is obtained from a minimum set of components.

While you can easily make your own perfume composition based on essential oils, or with complex top, middle and base notes, water-based perfumes with a floral scent will be no less delicious, and make the perfect gift for a romantic soul.

Not to mention, homemade perfumes are a great way to rid yourself of the harmful chemicals and preservatives that are often found in synthetic fragrances. Among them are phthalates, which cause many health problems.

Thus, a water-based perfume composition at home is the best and cleanest option.

10 most expensive perfumes in the world

So, when creating a perfume as a gift or for yourself, first of all, you need to decide on the basis, that is, what flowers you will use.

How to make perfume with your own hands

The main materials that will be needed in the work:

- 1.5 cups of chopped flower petals;

Medium sized bowl with lid

2 glasses of distilled water;

Small saucepan;

- a small container in which extracts of something are usually sold with a stopper that prevents air from entering. It needs to be sterilized to get rid of excess odors.

Making perfume at home

1) Wash the flower petals. Carefully clean them of dirt.

2) Soak the flowers. To do this, cover the bowl with gauze, covering it with the edges of the dishes. Pour the petals there and fill them with water. The water should barely cover them. Cover the container with a lid and leave overnight.

3) The next day, remove the lid, carefully fold the gauze with petals, taking them out of the water. Place the cheesecloth over a small saucepan, wring it out to get aqueous extract with a floral aroma. Simmer over low heat until about 1 teaspoon of liquid remains.

4) Pour chilled water into a bottle and close it tightly. If stored in a cool, dark place, the perfume composition will last about a month.

The best perfume is the smell of your body

You can experiment and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the bottle before preparing the perfume. This will be the basis of the perfume, and the aroma will open in a new way.

Tips for making your own perfume properly:

How to make perfume from oil

First of all, it is very important to prepare a vessel in which your perfume will be stored. It must be as sterile as possible. After a thorough wash, do not use any towels, let it dry on its own.

Once you've bought or made your own essential oil, it's important to make sure it lasts as long as possible. To do this, observe the following rules:

1. Store essential oils in a dry, cool place, away from strong light and heat, because heat can change the composition of the fragrance. Ideally, this is a closet. A closet in the kitchen or in the bathroom will not work.

2. If perfumes begin to change color or aroma, then they should be destroyed. Never store perfumes containing two or more blended essential oils for more than two months, because immediately after mixing, the oils begin to slowly oxidize.

3. All perfume compositions you create must be tested for skin sensitivity.

4. Always record the date you purchased the essential oil to keep track of its condition. With proper storage, it will be good for a year.

5. Never use metal tools when making perfume because the metal can react with any of the ingredients and ruin everything.

6. If glycerin is indicated in the perfume recipe, then try to mix it with water in such a way as to avoid the appearance of air bubbles. Glycerin is a good fixative and can be added to various formulas and recipes to help the fragrance last longer.

7. For storing perfumes, dark glass containers are best suited. Never use plastic bottles because the oils will definitely react with the plastic, ruining the fragrance.

8. A good perfume formula is 75 percent alcohol and 25 percent fragrance, eau de toilette is 12-15 percent essential oil, 50-60 percent alcohol, the rest is distilled water.

Remember that any disaster you may have as a result of mixing different ingredients can be neutralized by lemon and lavender.

Alcohol-based perfumes are also easy to make. It is a mixture of essential oils, alcohol and distilled water. Resist the temptation to use tap water. The oil must be very slowly introduced into the alcohol, one drop at a time, until they are completely mixed.

Spirits are like fine wine, they need some time to infuse to become perfect. After they "ripe" it is necessary to filter them through a coffee filter to remove all possible deposits, and then place them in a dark glass bottle with a stopper.

The opportunity to experiment will give you a lot of pleasure. You will most likely have to work hard to create the perfect scent. Remember that even one drop of essential oil can completely change the scent of a perfume.

  • Citrus. Includes natural citrus fruit scents. The scents we are used to can create interesting scents when combined with florals and woods.
  • Floral. These fragrances are often used in pairs in perfumery. Essential oils of this group will remind you of a bouquet of fresh roses or lilac blossoms. These scents are light and springy.
  • woody. Distinguished by unobtrusive sweetness and astringency. Such smells are refined and give the perfume a green freshness. This also includes soft, but rich herbal scents.

  • Wine glass (fern). Differ in freshness. This family includes the heavy smell of oakmoss, which is usually used to fix the overall aroma. Rose mint geranium can bring a touch of freshness to a perfume product that lasts a long time.
  • Oriental. Sweet and very sensual. These include oils of musk and amber combined with tree bark, resin and vanilla. This category is considered one of the most ancient, and includes both women's and men's fragrances. Smells always have an earthy note and are distinguished by restraint.
  • Spicy. Similar to oriental, but have more astringency. The oils of cinnamon, pepper, ginger and other spices are combined to create the aroma.

  • Chypre. They are based on bergamot, oak moss. Such smells are considered classic for creating men's perfumes. If you combine chypre fragrances with citrus fruits, you get a unisex perfume.
  • Leather. Such fragrances are those that combine floral scents with juniper oil and woody notes. Such mixtures are used to create men's perfumes. The aromas are reminiscent of the usual smells of smoke, tobacco or fire.
  • Water. Reminiscent of the smells of dew, fog, summer rain. To create a composition, mint is combined with herbal and citrus oils. This combination is the most difficult to prepare at home. Synthetic components are often used for the final result.

To create complex fragrances, different categories of scents are often combined. So, the combination of oriental or spicy with more fresh woody or fruity ones is very popular.

  • Basic, it's basic. Use essential oils that set the tone but fade quickly. Citrus fruits, lavender, rose, mimosa, or basil work well.
  • Starting head note. Choose fragrances that sink right into the skin and last a long time. Essential oils of pine needles, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla or cedar are well suited.
  • Middle note, also known as the heart note. Wood group perfumes are often used. Patchouli, oak moss oils are well suited.

When connecting components, you should adhere to the following rules.

  1. Mix the smells of the head note in glass containers, then add the central ones, and lastly the base ones.
  2. After mixing the aromas, pour alcohol or basic perfume oil into the container.
  3. Pour the resulting liquid into small glass containers. They should be darkened or stored in a place where the rays of the sun do not penetrate.
