Opel Antara, Hyundai Santa Fe: choosing a diesel crossover. Typical disadvantages (Opel Antara) Opel Antara with mileage Opel Antara 2.2 diesel engine

My first crossover. I put everything possible additional packages, webmasters, etc. total cost cars 1.5 m. rubles - I negotiated up to 1.2, that’s why I bought it!)))

Before this there were a Lacetti 1.6m maximum speed, a Mazda 6 1.8m and a Honda Accord 2.4 (201) hp. Automatic, maximum configuration (all new)

I will compare with sedans. Probably not entirely correct, but still there are a lot of points of contact.

I'll start with what I didn't like.

1. The manager in the salon said that there is passive cruise control - it turned out to be active. How can you not know this?????

2. The manager at the salon said that the headlights were adjusted manually - it turned out to be automatic. With all due respect to the automatic, it often fails, even on such extremely reliable cars as Honda and Mazda.

3. The control of the power windows is strange, you press a little and the glass rushes down or up at great speed - it’s a little scary that it will break soon! The smoothness of the glass in previous cars was much more pleasant.

4. The hatch control is also not very convenient compared to the Accord.

5. Navigation is not bad, but the location of the screen is simply inconvenient; the speakerphone saves the day. I’m thinking about how to change the standard navigation to a wonderful city guide with a SIM card!???

6. During acceleration, turbo holes were noticed, and this does not happen at a certain speed, but in a certain gear!???

7. Parking sensors work well, but! - it is unclear where the obstacle is! Only a sound signal and no understanding of the obstacle in front or behind!!!

8. Front skirt, well, a strange decision. I’m just going to cut it so that when it hits, part of the rubber will bend and not tear it all out from the fasteners!

9. The noise is not very good, but in my Japanese cars it was at the same level at 3+!

10. It turned out to be a crooked glove box, stupid interior, nothing more.

11. After the accord, the rear-view mirrors, although larger in size, seem less convenient and formatted.

12. When driving backwards, there is no automatic tilting of the right rear view mirror; on the Accord this option was already standard.

13. Very large and beautiful wheels and tires - from 14,000 rubles for tires, a little expensive for such a crossover)))!

14. Strange diesel fuel consumption. When filling on "Kirishi", "Linos" - every three hundred km the consumption increased without increasing the engine speed by 15-30 minutes!!! I read about cleaning the particulate filter - but there the engine keeps speed, in my case it’s just consumption. When refueling at Lukoil, PTK and NESTLE, this was almost not observed, well, since it was approximately 500 km away.

15. Something is creaking somewhere!??? In the panel!

16. Folding mirrors in the center of the panel, why not on the door??? I've been getting used to it for a month now - I'm not used to it yet!

17. Frankly crappy climate control, + single-zone!

18. The glass sweats a little, but you can fight it. There was such a problem in the Lacetta, it was impossible to fight there (((.

19. Strange and uneven noise of the AC fan!

Now what I liked:

1. Believe it or not, after the chord I liked the controls on the antara! Yes, it’s power steering, but so far it’s steering just fine. On the Mazda 6 and Lichetti, the handling is worse!

2. Real consumption on the highway, if you drive 80-90 km per hour on a cruise, is 6.4 liters per 100 km. (As soon as the engine is cleaned??? - +4 liters)

If you drive 110-130 km per hour on a cruise - up to 9 liters.

If you drive normally or slightly above average (70% highway/30% city) - surprisingly, about 10 liters per 100 km!

I drove along the highway for a very long time and tried to save fuel - I drove 1054 km on a tank! 1120 km on the accord - well, I’m a fan of squeezing everything out of a car that it can and cannot do))). But nevertheless, this is a fact!

3. Passability is, of course, an amazing thing! I ride all over the region for work, the chord no longer had a bottom!!!

4. Low beam - just cool! The distant one is a little worse, but still worthy!

5. Turn signals blink 3 times when pressed lightly - a standard convenient thing.

6. The fact that there is a hatch.

7. Not very bad music.

8. Touch screen with convenient and intuitive controls.

9. Full-size spare tire.

10. Very playful when accelerating the car, thanks to the turbine. Especially at 90 km/h it’s just a kick in the butt!

11. The rain sensor works very well! I read bad reviews about him. True, I haven’t figured out yet whether it can be adjusted for sensitivity.

12. The automatic transmission works well, although there were ideas and plugs several times, but so far the running-in continues. Compared to the chord, the machines are similar in their operation.

13. It’s just a tall car, you can clearly see what’s going on ahead.

14. It takes high-speed turns very well, rolls are minimal, it’s clear where it’s going.

15. Parking sensors around the entire perimeter.

16. In my opinion, the outside rear-view mirrors are also dimmed, my wife and I still haven’t figured it out))))

17. Excellent tinting of all windows except the front ones.

18. Factory roof rails - after all, for long journeys (I drove 220 thousand km in Russia and Europe on the Accord), sometimes you need to put your luggage on top for an emergency overnight stay in the car!

19. Stupid managers in the salon said that the navigator and so on English language- everything is configured in Russian.

20. Built-in speakerphone for talking on the phone - just super!!! Friends' connections were delivered later - their quality is much worse!!!

21. On the highway, due to the weight, the wind almost doesn’t blow it away!

22. Active cruise control! On a Mazda with a manual because of the mechanics - after all, it was just a nice option, and not an assistant! On the chord there is only a passive (.

23. Driver's seat with electric. drive and you can find a comfortable position, but there is no memory for two drivers as in a chord.

24. Not very bad leather, the accord was much better and with perforation.

25. Heated seats work very quickly, there are many intensity options.

26. Beautiful alloy wheels 19 radius, 235mm by 50mm.

The all-wheel drive five-door crossover, from the famous German brand Opel, first debuted in Paris in 2006, at a festive motor show. The car was originally developed jointly with specialists from General Motors and received close family ties with his brother Chevrolet Captiva. Car sales in Russia began in 2007, when several gasoline engines were available to consumers, a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produced 140 “horses” and a top-end V6 that produced 227 hp. with a working volume of 3.2 liters.

A few years later, in 2011, the Opel Antara undergoes a significant restyling, during which a number of faults and weak points cars, and also added a new line of engines. As for the transmission, everything remains unchanged; the layout uses two time-tested units - a 5-speed manual and a hydromechanical automatic.

What disadvantages do Opel Antara owners note?

High fuel consumption (almost on the entire range of engines)

Not securely fastening the 5th door wiper tube

Rattle of door speakers (often complete failure)

Small trunk

Incomprehensible operation of the rain sensor

Most of the Antara's shortcomings, noted by its owners, apply to cars before restyled production. After updating the model, the manufacturer worked out the characteristic faults enormously and the resulting car turned out to be much more reliable than before.

What are the advantages of the car?

1. Good dynamics, high stability and controllability on the track.

2. Rich equipment and price, when compared with classmates.

3. Comfortable spacious interior and comfortable seats.

4. High quality fitting and assembling interior parts (crickets are very rare)

Let's look at weaknesses and illnesses.

Engine and power point Of the entire available range of engines in the Opel Antara, the most complaints are caused by the gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.2 liters, its main malfunction is premature wear of the timing chain. The cause of the malfunction itself is still completely unknown, and the manufacturer only recommends changing the oil more often than according to regulations, instead of once every 15 thousand km, and reducing the interval to 10 thousand km. Perhaps the reason lies in the hydraulic chain tensioner and its strength, but it’s a fact mass exit out of order remains relevant to this day.

For reference

Average timing chain life the 3.2 liter engine has 227 hp. is about 70-80 thousand km, and its replacement can cost about 25-35 thousand rubles.

If the timing chain fails, the valve timing shifts, engine thrust drops sharply, fuel consumption may increase, and dashboard the indicator will light up "Check-Engine". Further operation of the engine in this mode, is extremely unsafe.

All other installed motors have no major complaints, and cases of major breakdowns are rare. By and large, Antara engines have proven themselves to be good, with rare exceptions, and their reliability and quality are confirmed by the ownership experience of many car enthusiasts.

Possible steering problems

Steering rack

We can confidently call it a major factory mistake of the SUV. steering. In particular, it is worth noting the steering rack. The appearance of knocks and increased play in the steering wheel, may appear already at 50-70 thousand km, the reason for this is broken rack rod bushings and wear of the steering shaft bearing. Repairing a steering rack can cost 5-15 thousand rubles, and replacing it with a new analogue will most likely cost 40-60 thousand, and the service life will actually be equal to that of a restored one. In case of replacing the steering rack with a used one. part, it is recommended to check the contract rail (since their service life is short)

Power steering system hose

This malfunction most often occurs in winter time of the year. The fluid in the power steering system, under the influence of negative temperatures, becomes more viscous, as a result of which, when the engine starts, the pressure in the entire system increases. If you start turning the steering wheel before the working fluid warms up, there is a high probability that hose rupture or its flying off the fitting. Cases of this breakdown are not uncommon.

Sores of the chassis and suspension

Cardan shaft, support bearing, spider

Problem overheating of hinge elements The driveshaft on the Opel Antara is not new. Its reason lies in the very close location of the muffler next to the driveshaft and, as a result, the rapid fluidity of the lubricant from bearings and destruction of the “support” boot. This disadvantage is especially destructive among residents of large cities, where the lion's share of car use occurs in city traffic jams. Frequent injection and additional lubrication of loaded elements can slow down the process to some extent.

For reference

In the event of failure of the driveshaft crosspiece or the outboard bearing, the manufacturer and official dealers make repairs only by replacing the entire driveshaft assembly. The cost of this service will cost approximately 60-80 thousand rubles. It is worth noting that to eliminate these breakdowns, it is enough to simply replace the failed bearing. In specialized workshops for repairing cardan shafts, the price tag for these operations will be approximately 5-10 thousand rubles.

ABS sensor

A very common problem is contact souring and failure of rear ABS sensors. The reason for this is their poor protection from external environment and aggressive road reagents. You will be notified of the occurrence of such a malfunction by the “ABS” icon constantly lit on the dashboard.

Stability of paintwork and body

A major body miscalculation of the manufacturer in the Opel Antara considers the trunk lid. The first traces of corrosion are already possible after a couple of years of operation; as a rule, bugs appear in the area of the plastic trim and the place where the license plate is attached. The body itself is galvanized, and the paintwork is quite resistant to external influences.

Despite all the weaknesses of the Opel Antara, owners still note significantly more positive aspects rather than shortcomings. And the level of comfort, dynamics and driving pleasure more than cover everything.

Advantages: 1. Strong, reliable body
2. suspension
3. efficiency based on a 2.2 liter diesel engine. 167 l. With.
4. good traction in first gear, again diesel.

Disadvantages: 1. electrics (the star stop function is a big hemorrhoid for a cold climate)
2. thin triplex windshield, saved money.
3. The cost of the car (I bought it for 1.1 million rubles in 2013, example: in Germany at that time the cost of the car in our rubles was 780 thousand)
Now it’s March 2015. The price in the showroom is 1.8 million. This is complete slag...
4. GM company policy, the cost of original spare parts is prohibitive, an example of original pads with replacement for the rear and front is 17 thousand rubles. -March 2015 (Americans are assholes) not original with the work you can do it in 8 thousand rubles.
5. There is no adequate dealer for these cars in St. Petersburg.
6. Most spare parts are still only available in the original, prices are inflated by 2-3 times.
7. The trunk is not comfortable, poor ergonomics.
8. All-wheel drive is practically useless.

Review:
The car was purchased from dealer in St. Petersburg, in 2013, mileage 70 thousand km. I travel a lot
bought for 1100 thousand rubles. I want to say right away that crossovers in Russia are not worth the money they are sold for. The optimal price for a car at the cost of a dollar in 2013 is 32 rubles. 800 thousand rubles. in Germany at that time a new car did not cost 750-800 thousand rubles.
Let's return to the car: All-wheel drive is not needed at all, a useless option with an electronic locking clutch works every other time, worse than a conventional locking clutch that works mechanically, but according to the manufacturer, the first option with electronic adjustment lasts longer.
The second useless option in Russia is start stop; at the time of purchase, all new generation Opel Antara cars were equipped with this function, and this is where the most the main problem of this car: this option cannot be disabled, it can only be disabled temporarily by pressing the ECO key with the ignition key turned. You must always remember this and forcefully disable this function while driving, because if you use start-stop, the starter will close very quickly, this function is “raw” not fully developed for cold climates. All Opels have a widespread problem with this function; the malfunction appears from 40 thousand. up to 90 thousand km. I was driving in a traffic jam in the city, stopped at an intersection and the old stop function worked and that’s it!!! the engine no longer starts, it turned out that Opel was recalling these cars, but the dealer did not say anything or notify, there was a malfunction power cable melting inside the cable of the terminals that are suitable for the starter and generator, if changed not under warranty, the cost of replacing the power cable with work in 2015 after the rise in price is about 40 thousand rubles. this is complete nonsense, in a UAZ the cost of spare parts (cable) is 700 rubles. and labor cost 1000 rubles, but I was lucky they replaced it under warranty. (for those who drive less intensively, the malfunction may not appear at all; when the car comes out of warranty, the wires will certainly become charred, you need to go to the official dealer and demand a replacement of the power cable)
Additional problems: the particulate filter for 70 thousand was done by an official. dealer forced cleaning of 10 thousand rubles.
Triplix front glass full g.. like Chinese, from small stone immediately the cracks appeared.
Inconvenient trunk, also poor closing of the rear trunk door, over time there will most likely be problems with the lock...
Of the off-road properties, only ground clearance and that’s it.
Among the advantages of this car...
1. Low fuel consumption in sixth gear at a speed of no more than 2000 km.
(although all petrol Opels have this a big problem consumption sometimes reaches 20 liters 95) in a 2.2 liter diesel engine. 167 hp in the city 10-12 hp. on the highway from 8.5-10 liters. This is real consumption - the route shows. computer and own measurements.
2. Strong body
3. good suspension, ratio of rigidity and smoothness, reliable, traveled 70,000 km. no problems so far.
4. For me, the biggest advantage is the 6th manual gearbox with synchronizer, they started installing it on antaras from the end of 2012 (before that there was a 5th gearbox), on the 6th manual transmission there is precise gear shifting, clarity, short stroke, this is a big plus this car.

TO BE FIRST

Leading is a man's cherished desire. And if there is a treat at the end of the race, you just want to jump behind the wheel, press the gas and be the first to arrive at the picnic!

Diesel engine "Antara" with a power of 184 hp. and with a volume of 2.2 liters replaced the 150-horsepower 2-liter unit. It is almost inaudible either at idle or while driving. There are no characteristic sounds from road debris or tires. This “Antara” is very dynamic and resembles a gasoline one in character. A hurricane of newton meters hits the driver from about 1500 rpm and subsides when the tachometer needle approaches 3700 rpm.

When overtaking, there is no need to move the automatic selector to manual mode. Thrust in abundance, and in a wide range of speeds. Only at very low speeds do you want more. In a calm rhythm, the box smoothly changes gears and allows you to slightly rev the engine. The Opel suspensions are typically European - taut, preferring good asphalt. With them, the Antara quickly takes turns and rolls slightly. The 19-inch wheels add acuity to reactions, but on the washboard of a country road these same “rollers” become a disadvantage. Body vibrations increase, forcing the driver to slow down.

Perhaps the Hyundai Santa Fe was in the mood, but you really don’t want to rush into it! In the end, they won’t eat the kebab without us. "Korean" is the opposite of "Antara". Its automatic transmission and 197-horsepower diesel engine (by the way, one of the most powerful in the class) were carried over from the previous generation of the crossover.

However, based on purely personal feelings, I cannot say that the Hyundai turned out to be faster than the Opel. The gas pedal is harder and seems to hint: maybe we won’t drive? Using the Active ECO button, I turn on the economy mode, and the car becomes even more impressive. The dynamics are enough for a vigorous start from a traffic light, but then the pressure weakens. Still, the concept of “Santa Fe” - high level comfort, not race.

On the road I have fun with the system that regulates the steering force. I press the button on the steering wheel and try to feel the difference between the Normal and Comfort modes. It's practically non-existent. A small effect is noticeable only in Sport. The suspension is like a lowered rubber ball. Short-strider, with typical asphalt habits, it digests road debris well. Engineers deliberately made the springs, shock absorbers and silent blocks softer. On a bad road, the Hyundai on 18-inch wheels is more comfortable than the Opel, but even here the chassis mediocrely restrains the vibrations of the massive alloy wheels, transmitting various resonances to the body. Don't shake the snack!

GET THERE

To the grill - at any cost! Having taken a closer look at the subjects, the Hyundai was the first to be launched along the snow-covered road, pressing the key for forced locking of the clutch. The Antara does not have it; everything is left to the electronics, which, after the front axle slips, connects the rear axle with a noticeable delay. The Opel begins to dig in, the snow frozen after the thaw scrapes along the bottom, but the connected stern finally pushes the crossover and it crawls after the detached Santa Fe.

Let me comment on the diagram of our measurements of geometric cross-country ability. The distance from the ground to the “skirt” of the front bumper of the Antara is as much as 235 mm, and the rear bumper hangs at a decent height - 370 mm. We'll also add small body overhangs as a plus. But there is no engine protection; it is covered only by a small cross member, and the ground clearance of 150 mm is by no means all-terrain. At full load it decreases by 15 mm, and this also does not add confidence on a bad road. At the rear, the Antara sags by 40 mm (155 mm remains under the exhaust system). In general, if you load the car to the maximum, then you should drive carefully so that you don’t have to wait for the tractor.

The “Korean” crankcase is protected by a powerful steel sheet, from which it is 185 mm from the road; The spare wheel covers the clutch at the back (the edge of the tire is the lowest point of the stern). At full load, the engine protection is 30 mm closer to the ground (the ground clearance is reduced to 155 mm), the stern also sags by 35 mm (the spare tire hanging under the trunk floor is separated from the road by 170 mm). In general, the Hyundai, although not by much, is preferable off-road - taking into account the protection from below. However, you can’t relax! The Santa Fe has massive overhangs and low bumpers: the front is 5 mm closer to the road than Opel’s, and the rear is as much as 60 mm. So, in achieving your goal, be careful not to go from a picnic straight to a body repair shop.

RELAX ON THE SOFA

This is perhaps the most basic desire of the strong half of humanity! Still, crossovers are bought not only to stir up dirt, but also to feel at home behind the wheel.

The rear sofa of the Antara is quite spacious, the backrest folds out in parts (60:40). The trunk has railings to which nets, curtains, etc. are attached.

The rear sofa of the Antara is quite spacious, the backrest folds out in parts (60:40). The trunk has railings to which nets, curtains, etc. are attached.

The driver's seat of the Antara is quite suitable for a long road trip. The cushion is elastic, the backrest is well-profiled, and the lateral support bolsters are unobtrusive, but perfectly hold the body in turns. The front panel is nice, but after a small Opel-Mokka ( ZR, 2013, No. 2) with its thoughtful ergonomics, I would like to see something more modern in a more expensive model. Alas.

Two displays on the center console - like aliens from different eras. Moreover, the color multimedia monitor, where, among other things, navigation is registered, is located below the on-board computer screen - every time you have to lower your eyes, distracted from the road.

The rear row seats of the Santa Fe can be moved forward, reclined slightly or folded completely (ratio 40:20:40).

The rear row seats of the Santa Fe can be moved forward, reclined slightly or folded completely (ratio 40:20:40).

The Santa Fe has a multifunctional touchscreen located at the optimal height and, thanks to its favorable tilt angle, does not glare. The lateral support of the driver's seat on the Hyundai is not as grippy as in the Opel, but the armrest is wider. When driving at a steady pace, this is a plus, but when steering quickly, the right elbow bumps into this element more often than we would like.

Is it comfortable in the back? Three people can sit on the Antara sofa without any problems; the profile of the leather pillows and backrest is very good. But compared to the Santa Fe, the Opel is lost. Even though the seats in the Hyundai are a little hard, there are so many possibilities for transformation! The seats can be moved forward and the backrest can be adjusted. Folding the entire row, we get 1680 liters of trunk volume. “German” wins back with an almost flat floor and the FlexOrganizer system: the abundance of rails and hooks for securing luggage came in very handy. And in “Antara” you get a chic table from the front passenger seat - in a downpour or in cold weather you can have a snack on it.

TALK!

The tests and barbecue are over, it’s time to set priorities. The old-timer of the Opel Antara market has shown itself to be worthy, but it’s time for it to be updated. In order to achieve clear handling, good sound insulation and good combination A diesel engine with an automatic transmission has added a fashionable appearance and a rich interior.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is the opposite of the Opel in terms of driving performance: the crossover does not like fussy lane changes and pedaling to the floor. It captivates others: the variety of second-row transformations, comfortable suspension and, of course, appearance. But men, as you know, love with their eyes.

VIEW FROM BELOW

In Santa Fe:

the electro-hydraulic clutch is pressed tightly to the stern. To hurt her, you need to try! From the rear, the unit is covered by a spare wheel with an alloy disk (T165/90R17). This multi-disc clutch is more economical and reliable (less afraid of overheating) than the electromagnetic clutch used on the previous generation machine.

At Antara:

The multi-plate clutch is pressed against the body, and it is unlikely to be engaged off-road. In extreme cases, the exhaust pipe will protect the unit. But it is located quite low. At full load, the distance from the pipe to the ground is 155 mm.

RANGE OF CONVENIENCE

At Antara:

The angle of adjustment of the steering wheel turned out to be greater: 4.6 degrees.

But Santa Fe:

lost a little - 0.2 degrees.

The steering wheel reach of the Opel is 38 mm versus 35 mm of the Hyundai. The difference here is minimal; without a protractor and tape measure you are unlikely to feel it. Testers of different heights and builds took part in the test. Everyone easily found the optimal settings for themselves.

LET'S ALL SIT DOWN

My seating position became the reference point for measuring the height and distance the driver's seat could be moved. With a height of 190 cm, I prefer to sit as low as possible, and place the backrest almost vertically. I move the seat back so that left leg, placed on the emphasis, was only slightly bent at the knee.

In the Antara, the range of movement of the seat back was less than in the Santa Fe, but there is enough space for the driver who wants to change shoes without leaving the car.

If you move the Hyundai seat as close to the steering wheel as possible, only a child can squeeze in here. At the same time, you can freely install from behind Baby chair or transform a sofa.

The range of height adjustment for the driver's seat is sufficient for both crossovers, and in the Opel it is slightly larger. In general, people of any height and build will find adjustments to suit their taste.

PARKING BY COLOR AND SOUND

The tested Santa Fe did not have front parking sensors; only buyers of the top High-tech version receive it. But there is a camera with a convenient “traffic light” marking and a color indicator on the instrument panel. Green, yellow and red stripes with sound will help you avoid trouble.

In Antara there are parking sensors in the front and rear. But there is no rear view camera. An intermittent signal begins to notify about an obstacle approximately 100 mm in advance if the car is moving forward, and 168 mm in advance if it is moving backward. Continuous squeaking requires immediate stop when 35mm remains at the front and 27mm at the rear.

BRIEFLY ABOUT THE MAIN THINGS

Sergey Klochkov, tester:

17

I liked the Opel due to its efficiency, quietness in the cabin and responsiveness to the gas pedal. TO weaknesses I'll take a small trunk and a non-reclining sofa back. Hyundai captivated us with its good ergonomics, interior transformation capabilities and large trunk. Of the punctures, I’ll name the mediocre sound insulation.”

Oleg Yurkov, artist:

18

“The German car is quieter, and I get aesthetic pleasure from the dashboard that is pleasing to the eye. But there is not enough space in the back, and the lack of engine protection is also alarming. “Santa Fe” seemed to me more interesting from a design point of view, and the interior was thought out to the smallest detail. The instrument lighting is annoying, as is the high price.”

IN A NUTSHELL

The high-torque engine and excellent sound insulation of the cabin speak in favor of the Antara. And the new Santa Fe finally received what the model lacked - a stylish appearance and many options.
