The KChM boiler is a reliable, simple and popular piece of equipment. This equipment can operate on different fuels. The design feature allows for quick repairs - the damaged section is replaced with a new one. This is the main difference from steel boilers, which can be difficult to repair.

Who is the manufacturer

Cast iron boilers KChM are produced by Kirov Plant OJSC. This enterprise has been operating for more than two centuries. Currently, the plant is part of a production holding and produces cast iron products. And KChM heating boilers are one of the activities of the enterprise.

Decoding

The abbreviation KChM stands for modernized cast iron boiler. Let's consider, for example, the solid fuel boiler KChM-5-K-03 M(M1), its name carries the following information:

  • K – combined;
  • 03 – standard design;
  • M - modernized with a single door for scooping and ash;
  • M1 – modernized with different doors.

Construction of KChM boilers

This equipment is made of cast iron, which is durable and reliable, and this material is not afraid of corrosion and does not burn out like steel, from high temperatures. The weak point is sudden changes in temperature, as a result of which cracks can form.
Structurally, the heating surface is a package of sections made of cast iron. The chimney is attached to the last section and the boiler is connected to the heating system there.

On the front side there is an inspection hatch for cleaning the chimney and a number of doors (for loading fuel, for cleaning the ash pan and for screwing). To avoid heat loss, the unit is covered with thermal insulation, usually mineral wool, which can withstand high temperatures and does not pose a risk to human health.

A metal jacket coated with paint is placed on top. The draft is adjusted manually using slide valves. The boiler body is equipped with a number of instruments for monitoring operation. In the heating zone, for example, a thermometer is mounted to measure the temperature of the coolant.

Advantages and disadvantages

Boilers for solid fuel KChM have a number of advantages:

  • material of manufacture – cast iron;
  • wide range of heating output: from 21 to 80 kW, which is possible thanks to the sectional design;
  • small dimensions, which is convenient when placed in a small room;
  • possibility of modification to operate on other types of fuel;
  • non-volatile;
  • no special requirements for traction;
  • easy operation and maintenance;
  • unpretentious to fuel quality;
  • possibility of restoration;
  • Russian production, which is convenient when purchasing spare parts;
  • long service life (over 25 years), which is ensured by high-quality parts;
  • low cost compared to analogues.

However, it is worth noting the disadvantages:

  • high fuel consumption;
  • coefficient useful action on average about 78%, which is lower than that of analogues;
  • low efficiency leads to increased waste generation and frequent cleaning;
  • strict requirements for the quality of the chimney.

The efficiency depends directly on the quality of the fuel. It is most effective to use AM grade anthracite coal or damp firewood - up to 20%. Coal consumption is low.

Installation and operation rules

When installing a boiler, it is necessary to fulfill certain requirements related to fire safety. This will increase the service life of the solid fuel boiler and ensure safety and comfort.
When installing the boiler in a suitable room, it is important to maintain the distance from the unit to the walls: from the back surface to the wall at least 250 mm, to the side surfaces at least 100 mm.

To ensure access to the rear surface of the boiler during installation and maintenance, it is necessary to maintain a distance of at least 400 mm from one side. A free space of about 1 sq.m. is provided in front of the boiler to ensure easy loading of fuel and cleaning of the ash pan.

The heating installation is placed on a reliable base, finished with fire-resistant materials, or on a platform.
The fuel is placed at a distance of 400 mm from the boiler.
The coolant is used prepared, without impurities, to avoid the formation of deposits, which can reduce the service life.
The equipment is suitable for operation in systems with both natural and forced coolant circulation.

It is important to protect the boiler from overheating when the water temperature has reached the maximum value and the fuel continues to burn.

This phenomenon can be avoided by using: a thermostatic draft regulator, using a cooling heat exchanger, a switching valve or installing a heat storage tank.

Malfunctions

During operation, characteristic malfunctions of the CFM may be observed.

Why a solid fuel device?

A similar solid fuel boiler KCHM5 is sometimes also called a heat generator. It is these generators that are causing wild demand among owners of estates, dachas, private houses and cottages. In such buildings, most often there is no access to a central heating system, which means there is a threat of freezing.

Heat generators are a device that can be used literally in any room; the quality of heating in it will be the same, regardless of the fuel:

  • Coal;
  • Firewood;
  • Wood processing waste (solid fuel), that is, pellets;
  • Peat briquettes;
  • Fuel pellets.

Main gas pipelines are accessible only to some houses and streets, while the rest have to use similar solid fuel boilers KCHM-5. This will cost the owner much less than connecting to shared network, and technically it is much easier to do.

Liquid fuel and electric boilers KCHM are not entirely economically profitable, this fuel is constantly rising in price, and who knows how much electricity or diesel will cost in 2-3 years. Better be sure tomorrow and install a really high-quality and reliable solid fuel boiler KCHM-5.

Design and diagram of the heating device

The solid fuel boiler KCHM5 is known for being made from special cast iron sections. Cast iron as a material is the most durable and resistant to temperature changes. It was chosen as the main one due to its high strength qualities and resistance to corrosion. The heat capacity that cast iron has is also high, meaning it can hold heat for a long time. These properties are perfect for efficient work solid fuel boiler KCHM-5.

It has long been established that solid fuel boilers KCHM 5, the construction of which is made of cast iron, serve without problems for 50 years. But it should be noted that although it is the strongest material, it still has weaknesses - too sudden and frequent temperature changes make it fragile and susceptible to corrosion. Proper use and operation of solid fuel heating equipment is the key to long and efficient home heating.

Another important nuance is that this unit is called solid fuel, because it can operate on two main types of fuel:

  • Natural gas;
  • Diesel fuel.
