Big wash with Andrei Malakhov archive. Andrei Malakhov spent years delving into the dirty laundry of Russians, but did not get his hands dirty. The Rise of “Let Them Talk”

The main topic of television August is leaving Channel One. While the media are trying to figure out why the TV presenter decided to leave his native Channel One, whether he will go to his competitors at Rossiya 1, and if not, what he will do and who will replace him at Let Them Talk. I decided to tell you what Malakhov actually did with television, for which he is respected even by those who fiercely hate all his programs.

***
Andrey Malakhov really likes to tell a story about a teapot. In the early 1990s, he was among the best students of the journalism course and was sent for an internship in the USA. He lived in America for a year and a half and interned at the prestigious University of Michigan. He later admits that it was there that he realized how rich and expressive television could be.

Returning to his homeland, he discovered that, while a whole new world, nothing has changed on Russian TV. Only in the native edition a new teapot appeared. Apparently, it was then that he felt: something definitely needed to be changed.

Western masters of television made a great impression on the young Malakhov. In Russia, the talk show genre was just emerging, but in America it has been developing for decades. Therefore, having honed his skills in the program “ Good morning"on ORT, the young presenter tried to put what he saw in the USA into practice. His colleague on the morning broadcast, Larisa Krivtsova, noted that Malakhov was full of ideas on how to diversify the broadcasts with the help of interactive activities: he collected gifts for children, rescued stray dogs and encouraged viewers to wash windows en masse. At the same time, he always behaved intelligently and kindly on camera.

The channel didn’t allow Malakhov to go beyond “Good Morning.” Then Krivtsova, fed up with working on camera and interested in directing, invited the journalist to come up with a show personally “for him.” The aspiring presenter didn’t particularly believe in this idea, but remembered how, during an internship in the USA, he was impressed by a show with a conversation between two people against the backdrop of a working washing machine. Krivtsova and Malakhov adjusted the concept, adding mass appeal to it. Thus was born " Big Wash" - talk show about everyday problems, which are not customary to be made public.

"Big Wash"

Here, without unnecessary delicacy, the whole studio discussed intimate life, family problems, love affairs husbands and details of the personal lives of stars. We also understood the psychology of lies, brought the heroes to clean water, invited psychics, organized hypnosis sessions and dance concerts.

The project made a small revolution in the genre. Compared to other non-political talk shows of the early 2000s, The Big Laundry resembled an unbalanced, at times freaky, half-naked girl dancing the cancan. Against this background, the main competitor of “The Big Wash” - the program “My Family” - seemed like a boring family gathering. The stories that were shared in “My Family” under masks and changing voices were discussed openly, loudly and by the whole world at Malakhov’s.

Some call “The Big Wash” a copy of the American trash-style Jerry Springer show. However, Springer’s “Wash” was far from reaching the level of trash. (However, this gap was soon filled by the staged talk show “Windows” with Dmitry Nagiyev, which is closest to the American original - approx. "Tapes.ru"). However, television critics found the program to be terribly low-quality. They wrote that Channel One was exploiting viewers’ interest in dirty laundry, Malakhov was called a “vulgar presenter,” and the judgments of the studio guests were pathetic.

But this did not stop Malakhov himself. Krivtsova, who acted as the producer of the program, recalled that at first he received pennies, but worked with wild energy. Over the course of several years, he managed to go through a lot of styles and manners of conducting. For example, in the first years I tried to be restrained, and even while watching a hypnosis session in the studio, I behaved seriously and sympathetically.

At the same time, at first, under the gun of television cameras, Malakhov kept stumbling over his words, could not find expressions and seemed to be able to read only from a piece of paper. For a professional presenter, this is tantamount to failure, but the audience quickly fell in love with Malakhov, who was spontaneous and knew how to seem sincere. He relaxed and got used to it no less quickly, and his confused speech, replete with frequent “uh-uh,” turned into a meme, like the phrase “Good afternoon! Good afternoon Good afternoon Your favorite talk show “Big Wash” and its various variations are on the air.

The failure of "Five Evenings"

The last issue of “The Big Wash” was published in July 2004. According to Malakhov, the program was closed because of its frivolity, and not at all because of low ratings. Moreover, he sincerely believes that in this way he was tested for the subtlety of his mental organization. Channel One explained that the program had become obsolete, and the presenter himself had become cramped within the format.

There was talk inside the program that the claims were addressed not to Malakhov, but to the producer of “Wash” Larisa Krivtsova. Since 2004, the talk show with Malakhov was handed over to the director of the Channel One Special Projects Studio, which was called upon to reformat the program.

Nikonova went for an experiment: they added respectability to the program and made it thematic, rather than tied to specific events. The program was called “Five Evenings”, and its advertising slogan read “Malakhov has become more serious.” Now he was discussing pensions, low living wage, crime in Russia and other social and political problems, including the US elections. “Trash television has never been close to Channel One. Decent numbers in an indecent manner is not our way,” Nikonova explained in an interview a few years later.

However new format“didn’t come in” - the project’s ratings were steadily falling. They tried to find him more good time on the air, but in vain. In addition, the creators failed to maintain the main thing - to maintain the announced seriousness. In the program were looking for recipes eternal youth, That discussed virginity of the star of "House-2". After not lasting a year, “Five Evenings” closed. Nikonova believes that the reason for the failure was the rejection of the event-based approach.

“It was a thematic talk show, which by that time had lost its relevance. Nowadays, no topic can be a reason for discussion on television - the viewer is only interested in events. Events in the life of the country, in the lives of people,” the producer explained. “And the next program with Andrei Malakhov, “Let Them Talk,” became the founder of a new genre - the genre of history.” This was indicated by the slogan: “True stories that cannot be kept silent about.”

The Rise of “Let Them Talk”

“Let Them Talk” turned out to be the most enduring television project with Malakhov. It has existed for 12 years and is one of the highest rated on the channel.

There is no less trash in it, if not more, than in “Wash”. The average hero of the program is a resident of the outback, a victim of cruelty or injustice, who came to the program with his own story in search of truth and protection. In the studio they look into, for example, why the wife deceived her husband, who the father of the child is, and they talk about domestic rape and bullying in orphanages. All this is generously seasoned with scandals and fights. Individual selections with the best “Let Them Talk” battles can be easily found on YouTube.

The gloomy style of the program is diluted with holiday episodes dedicated to the Olympics, analysis of the Eurovision results, or programs about viral videos on the Internet.

The favorite topic of “Let Them Talk” is the scandalous details of the lives of celebrities: drug addiction, intimate life, Marat Basharov beating his own wife and others true stories, about which it’s really hard to remain silent.

However, the “yellow” tint of programs with Malakhov’s participation does not seem to affect the presenter’s reputation. Malakhov is a successful showman, Chief Editor publications about the lives of stars, recently the face of an eyewear brand and always a welcome guest at social events. He has repeatedly noted that he is not an ideologist of “Let Them Talk,” because he is only an employee who receives a salary. And this pure truth- Although Malakhov looks like the owner of his programs, he is framed as an employee of the Channel One Special Projects Studio and has repeatedly emphasized that it is not he who approves the topics, but the producers, who, moreover, do not always respond enthusiastically to his proposals.

When asked by critics whether he is disgusted by being involved in projects that exploit other people’s tears and pain, Malakhov usually objects that “Let Them Talk” is a mirror of Russian reality and that is why it is so popular with the audience. In an interview with GQ, he completely compared “Let Them Talk” with creativity. “Theoretically, these are some kind of Chekhov stories about Russian life today, only with the opportunity to connect viewers and admirers of the program to help those whose stories we tell,” says the TV presenter.

End of an era

According to media reports, after 16 years of working on first-channel talk shows, the presenter decided to change jobs. According to versions, Malakhov decided to part with the TV channel after Nikonova, who had once relaunched “The Big Wash,” returned to work on the show. For the last few years, she has worked for, in particular, on the show “Live” - a direct competitor to “Let Them Talk.”

According to the sensational version of Elle magazine, the departure of the Channel One star is entirely due to the fact that the management refused to let him go on maternity leave. The “transfer” has not yet been officially announced, but on August 7 the media reported that the TV presenter, who was on vacation, had nevertheless submitted his resignation.

On the same day, other news appeared, which some considered symbolic. Malakhov posted on Twitter a photo of a questionnaire when checking into a hotel, in which he identified himself as a blogger.

The fact is that quite recently the TV presenter actually acquired his own video blog on YouTube, which soon gained wide popularity. The TV star produces videos about the heroes of her programs, in particular about Diana Shurygina and Alexei Panin, posts videos from planning meetings on StarHit and learns to interact with the Internet audience.

At the end of June, he announced the imminent launch of new sections, in particular the program “Aftor Zhzhot” with a review of funny videos. Programs with the same name were periodically released as part of “Let Them Talk.” Considering fast growth channel (in less than three months he received over 6.5 million views), Malakhov has every chance to realize himself as a video blogger, regardless of producers and TV channels.

Malakhov’s colleagues insist that he has long outgrown the television format and is ripe for a more global independent endeavor. “I’m sure if you create a separate TV channel - “Andrey”, for example, or, there, “Hello, Andrey!” - he could bring his people to ecstasy around the clock target audience", - convinced CEO channel "Friday".

On Friday, August 25, channel “Russia 1” will show a special episode of the program “Andrey Malakhov. Live". In it, the editor-in-chief of the StarHit project will interview Boris Korchevnikov, who recently headed the Spas channel. The announcement of the first broadcast with a new presenter caused heated discussions on the Internet, which were fueled by intriguing videos. Many television viewers were looking forward to the resolution of the main television intrigue of this summer.

At one time, Andrei Malakhov went from an intern translating CNN news to the host of some of the highest-rated shows on Russian TV. “StarHit” remembered the first broadcasts of programs with the participation of a television journalist, each of which was remembered for a long time by his fans.

"Good morning"

Andrei Malakhov’s debut on television was the “Style” section of the morning broadcast of ORT. A young man who had recently graduated from Moscow State University told the audience about the latest fashion trends. Few people know, but the appointment, which any student journalist can envy, was preceded by active work behind the scenes - the future presenter, distinguished by his good knowledge in English, translated news from American sources. Sleepless nights were not in vain - editor-in-chief Larisa Zenina appreciated the efforts temporary employee, and soon he began appearing on air.

“And when, during the holidays, it was necessary to replace someone as the host of Good Morning, I was offered to sit in the studio chair. Most of my new colleagues turned out to be real professionals and taught me a lot,” recalled Andrei Malakhov.

His godmother on TV, the presenter called Elena Mironova, the presenter of the morning broadcast. It was she who once discovered the talent of an aspiring journalist. The woman believed that there could be no trifles in working on television, so she gave it to her young colleague fashion glasses, which her sister Alla, who worked in a large specialized chain of stores, helped her pick up. Years later, Andrei Malakhov continued to keep this thing, which became a reminder for him of the beginning of his career. To the great regret of her family and friends, Elena Mironova passed away after a long and serious illness.

“Lena was not just bright, smart and independent, she was stunning! There was a sense of breed and high class in her. Knowing almost all of Tsvetaeva by heart and idolizing Akhmatova, she did not miss a single significant concert, theatrical premiere or opening day. She was aware of all the news, being the most desirable interlocutor for the guests of the Good Morning program, where she worked for many years,” wrote Andrei Malakhov in his column for StarHit.

"Big Wash"

The idea of the “Big Wash” program, which made a kind of revolution in the talk show genre, belonged to Andrei Malakhov and the morning broadcast host Larisa Krivtsova. At first, the TV journalist wanted to bring to life the idea of a conversation between two people in front of a running washing machine, and make the studio itself look like a laundry room. However, later the authors of the program slightly changed the concept.

"One hour is auto mode operation of the washing machine. Now, instead of the usual soap operas, housewives, having started washing their clothes, will watch an hour-long talk show. Each program has one central theme,” said the program announcement.

The first episode of The Big Wash aired on July 23, 2001. Andrei Malakhov hosted the program in a light suit, and among the invited guests was Ilona Bronevitskaya. She told TV viewers about her bad experience collaboration with make-up artists. The audience responded to the star's words with laughter and applause.

“They took my glasses off. So, a yellow crimple dress, they also combed my hair like that. Now I know that make-up artists cannot be trusted, but, in general, I gave myself up then. This is what came out of it. And then everyone said: “Oh, how Edita Stanislavovna is, she gave birth to a daughter older than herself,” said the artist.

Behind short time the program, which was not afraid to touch on high-profile topics and conduct experiments, was loved by the audience. In the TV show studio they exposed liars, invited psychics and even held hypnosis sessions. Andrei Malakhov did not stop experimenting with the style of broadcasting and periodically tried on extravagant and fashionable costumes. At the same time, the presenter said that his style is important to attract a young audience, and he himself would hardly spend a thousand dollars on a torn jacket.

"Five Evenings"

In September 2004, “The Big Wash” was renamed “Five Evenings”, and the themes of the program became more serious. Andrey Malakhov and his guests began to discuss issues public importance– pensions, cost of living, social and political problems. At the same time, the program sometimes touched on high-profile news, for example, another scandal in Bolshoi Theater or the premiere of Zemfira’s new album.

"Good evening! On air “Five Evenings” with Andrei Malakhov. Thank you for hosting it on Channel One. We discuss daytime problems in the light of the evening lights,” the presenter said before the start of the program.

The fact that the program began to look more respectable was also facilitated by the design of the studio, which on Channel One was called a transformer. " Non-standard techniques television show, a synthesis of the genres of talk shows, variety shows, and elite circus,” said the announcement of the TV show.

"Let them talk"

“Five Evenings” did not air for long. In 2005, Channel One decided to reformat the evening show with Andrei Malakhov again and focused on more scandalous and darker topics. The first episode of the program aired on August 30. It was dedicated to the “Ural Demi Moore” - provincial teacher Elena Krylova, who was fired due to part-time work in a variety show.

"WITH today in this studio let those who have something to say speak, and let those who cannot remain silent speak. This summer they talked a lot about a simple provincial teacher from the Ural town of Sukhoi Log. During the day she worked and taught Russian language and literature, and in the evening she danced striptease in a variety show. (...) The theme of the first broadcast of “Let Them Talk” is “Striptease in Russian,” we will discuss the loudest erotic scandals of the summer,” Malakhov announced.

The second episode of the program was devoted to how Russians appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. Among the heroes of the program were Vladimir Golovlev, who dreamed of walking on the street without clothes, Natalya Znamenskaya, who could not bury her child under the name of her own father, and the scandalous writer Kirill Vorobyov.

“Let some people say that he has the right to do what he wants. But what if a person wants to walk naked, well, if not naked, then half naked. And what to do if our desires do not coincide with the principles of public morality. The theme of today’s episode is “I have the right,” announced Andrei Malakhov before the start of a heated discussion in the broadcast studio.

In 2015, “Let Them Talk” celebrated its anniversary - ten years since the first program aired. The program, which continues to air on Channel One with a new presenter Dmitry Borisov, is considered one of the highest-rated projects on TV.

"Tonight"

The premiere of a new entertainment show with Andrei Malakhov took place on September 1, 2012. “The program is broadcast on Saturday evenings, when you don’t want to think about something serious and important, but want to spend a calm evening in the company of interesting and famous people exceeds all others,” says the program announcement.

In the first episode of “Tonight,” Andrei Malakhov greeted the audience and complained that the summer flew by unnoticed.

“I want to bring back these passing warm days. Let's try to do this. All last week I was asked: “What mood will you be in? new program? I want to start our broadcast today with a flash mob. (...) So, I looked on the Internet at the fantastic flash mob from St. Petersburg “White Nights”. I hope it conveys the atmosphere that we want to create in our program - an atmosphere of unification, community, when completely strangers can unite, even if only a short time“- Malakhov addressed the audience.

After welcome speech the presenter suggested watching footage from cultural capital, made in the summer, and start dancing right in the studio. The atmosphere that reigned on the set was fun and relaxed. Many celebrities, including Joseph Kobzon, Timur Kizyakov, Star Factory graduates, Philip Kirkorov, Alla Pugacheva, Stas Mikhailov, Vera Brezhneva and Vera Glagoleva, told their stories and shared memories in this setting.

The heroine of the premiere episode of the program was the star of the 90s Larisa Chernikova. The artist, who lives in the USA, left the stage a long time ago. She is now a successful farmer and naturopathic doctor. On the broadcast of the program, the performer first saw her father, who left the family when she was not even a year old, and also met her half-sister. In addition, Chernikova introduced unexpectedly close people to American relatives.

ORT begins airing "The Big Wash" - a talk show in which they reveal and discuss the details of the personal lives of celebrities and ordinary people. The heroes shout a lot, fight and make scandals. The host of “Big Wash”, former secular correspondent of the “Good Morning” program Andrei Malakhov, becomes a symbol of the new yellow television journalism.

    1. Andrei Malakhov

presenter of the programs “Big Wash”, “Five Evenings”, “Let Them Talk”

- These are your methods, your way of behavior - where did it come from?

The year I studied in America influenced me the most. The good thing about television is that you can, so to speak, practice while lying on the couch. The main thing is to watch a lot. You find presenters you like, and then you need to carefully study literally everything: facial expressions, gestures, behavior, appearance, read their interviews, monitor what is happening in their lives. Ten years ago, American television was extremely promising. It seemed that we would not grow up to them. But when we are making Eurovision now, it is clear that this is a level to which we can only strive further.

- They often say about you that you are chasing ratings. This is true?

Yes. If a journalist can find harmony with himself, then it is not about money. It’s in the feeling of the ranking, in the numbers you see the next morning. It's really comparable to an orgasm. There is nothing better than the feeling that the audience chose you. Everyone can convince themselves that above 20 percent is good, but we ourselves are happy when the share is 30 percent. And we must understand that 44 is already the President’s New Year’s address.

- That is, the share more important than the essence programs?

No, the share is a reflection of what the country wants to hear. The country recognizes itself in its heroes. Moreover, 30 percent are not always at the VIP story. It could be some simple family drama - but you understand that you have touched something in the people sitting in front of the TV that they themselves may not be able to articulate for themselves. You showed them themselves as they are.

Do you have any barriers? Immersing yourself in dirty laundry - is it necessary or are you internally convinced that it is necessary?

I'm not convinced of anything. When some people say that they don’t watch federal channels... It’s clear that you can refuse to watch “ Fashionable verdict" This is chewing gum for housewives, although it has its own internal message - spring is just outside, go paint yourself, get a haircut, change your life. But if you don’t watch us, if you think that this doesn’t happen, then either you drive a Mercedes with a flashing light, or you don’t know the country in which you live. Everything we show is Russia of the 21st century. Of course, we want Skolkovo, we want to be the first on Mars, but the reality is that 30% of the country’s population does not have toilets in their apartments.

- You are now quoting Putin, by the way.

I’m just speaking as a person who just returned from Murmansk (although where I lived there was a toilet). Pity is not the best feeling, but I internally feel endlessly sorry for people who live like this. I remember myself at 15 years old: I wanted to leave Apatity for the city of Murmansk, because it seemed to me that this was the most beautiful city on Earth. When I moved from Murmansk to Moscow, I thought that Moscow was the height of civilization. Right now we are sitting in “Turandot” - you can probably say that this is the height of civilization, look for such a restaurant in New York. But when you find yourself in the South Butovo area, in the “Shashlychnaya” cafe or in some “Non-stop” cafe, you understand that reality is always a little different.

- As for reality: did you use actors in the show?

The concept of The Big Wash for the first season and a half was based on the fact that we had real stories. But when they couldn’t get someone on air, actors were added to the real participants. And it was staged. Then we abandoned this - the newspapers, seeing the ratings, began to investigate and write that everything with us was not real, other channels began to clone and exaggerate this concept; It became clear that I needed to leave her.

- How do you define yourself - as a showman or as a journalist?

I graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and I can say that our locomotive takes so long to travel only because I have a journalistic education. I believe that the problem with our television now is that there are few good editors. New people who come - maybe they are talented, good actors, but you need to put some thoughts, words, knowledge, some kind of journalistic reaction into them. But this is still television, understand. If I worked at a newspaper, I might go unshaven. And so I understand that everyone is looking at how I dress, my haircut, what I eat. Like it or not, acting appears.

- What stories are most in demand? Is there a model - what exactly will viewers watch?

- (Pause.) Do we have censorship here or not?

- I don’t know about you, but we don’t.

Then we remove from the shelf a program where Mark Rudinshtein tells the whole truth about the Kinotavr festival and also says that he has cancer, he can die, and he needs to ask for forgiveness... The share is 30 percent. Or if “Tea for Two” announces that they are gay, then altogether 45. Or I suggest to you, for example, Tatyana Dogileva, who is meeting with Mikhalkov, discussing the construction of a house in the center of Moscow. Some of the male politicians before the elections say that they had plastic surgery. Such things. Here’s another story, if you wrap it up correctly, Badri Patrakatsishvili’s wife talks about what she learned after his death that he had a second family laying claim to the inheritance. The more millions that are shared, the more viewers, of course.

You recently gave an interview on TV Center and very boldly admitted that the bosses know who should be visiting, and you, they say, are repairing the primus stove.

Agree, if I decided everything myself, I would already be the general director. I am responsible for my clearing - I fertilize it, plow it, plant it. Everyone should plant their own garden - a wonderful idea, in my opinion.

- When did you agree that your bosses know best? When did you accept the rules of the game?

On the very first day I went on television. It seems to me that anyone who does not accept the rules of the game on television at all no longer works there. Or he went to the Dozhd TV channel. I saw Tanya Arno yesterday. “Congratulate me,” he says. I answer: “With what?” I know that the President was on the Dozh channel, but how many people saw him? Five and a half? I'm exaggerating, of course. But when Tatyana hosted the “Raffle” program, it was an event. The question is, who are you running the program for? For myself? Like, am I that cool? “People, look, you can’t live like this”?

- There is no policy in your program. Was this your conscious decision?

There is already too much politics on television. We have politics between the lines. Again, I'm looking at the numbers. Here is Posner's program, please, share - 10. I have never even thought, honestly, which politician I would like to see on the program. Maybe Lena Skrynnik (Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation - Ed.) with her young husband, and even then we’re not talking about agriculture.

- And the president?

Only at their home, with a tour. Here's Ilyusha, here's the nursery, here's what they wrote to me on Twitter, here's what's in the refrigerator.

- What will happen to you in 20 years?

In 20? Well... (Long pause.) After 20 years, I'm commenting live on the end of the world.
