Antivirus deletes files from the flash drive. How to recover deleted data, photos and videos on a flash drive

Everything more people prefer to store photos with family holidays, working documents and other important data on flash drives. The owners of these USB drives are sure that this way the information will be safe and definitely not lost anywhere. Unfortunately, modern viruses can harm not only a computer, but also any removable media. If you are experiencing this problem, the good news is that information can be salvaged. From this text you will learn how to restore deleted files from a flash drive in the PHOENIX program.

1 step. Install the program

First you need to install it on your computer. Downloading will take just a couple of seconds, since the size of the distribution is only 10 megabytes. Double-click to launch the installer and follow the instructions that will appear on your computer screen. Select a folder for installing the software, read the license agreement and, for convenience, immediately send a program shortcut to your desktop.

2 step. Select drive

Start PHOENIX. In the start menu of the program, you will see information about which devices it supports. Click "Next" to proceed directly to data recovery. Select the flash drive from the list of drives. If only local drives are listed, make sure the USB drive is connected to the PC, and then click the Refresh Drive List button. After that, the flash drive should appear in the list, and you can proceed to the third step.

3 step. Specify the mode of operation

The program provides two modes of verification - quick and advanced searches. Both of them are suitable even for an inexperienced user who accidentally deleted a file from a flash drive. You won't have to think about how to recover data for a long time, because the program will do almost everything for you. Just follow the prompts that appear on the screen.

Operating mode selection

4 step. Set up your scan

To speed up the search process, specify which types of files were missing from the flash drive. PHOENIX can recover any images, text documents and tables, video and audio files, archives, HTML, PHP and other information. It will also be good if you remember the approximate size of the files. Select the appropriate option from the dropdown list or enter desired values manually. Ready? Start the scan and wait for it to finish.

Scan setup

5 step. Restore files

After a couple of minutes, the test results will appear on the screen. You will be able to see all the data found that PHOENIX considered suitable for recovery. If necessary, you can change the type of the report: customize the sorting of files, as well as their display. If you want to get more detailed information about any object, then select it and click "View". So you can find out the size of the file, the probability of its recovery and other data.

Table of deleted files

View file information

Check the boxes for all the items you want to return. Click "Restore" and choose your preferred save method. You can save the information on your computer's hard drive, burn it to a disk, or upload the recovered data to the Internet via FTP. Just click on the desired item and follow the prompts on the screen.

Choosing a file recovery method

PHOENIX is a universal program for recovering deleted or damaged data. With our application you can quickly, flash drives, hard drive and any other media in just a couple of minutes. Download the software and save valuable data right now!

Hello.

Not so long ago, I had to recover some photos from a flash drive that was accidentally formatted. This is not an easy task, and while it was possible to recover most of the files, I had to get acquainted with almost all popular programs for data recovery.

In this article, I would like to list these programs (by the way, they can all be classified as universal, because they can recover files from both hard drives and other media, for example, from a memory card - SD, or flash drive USB).

It turned out not a small list of 22 programs ( further in the article, all programs are sorted alphabetically).

That's all. In one of following articles I will supplement the article with the results of practical tests, which programs managed to recover information. Have a great weekend and don't forget backup so you don't have to rebuild anything...

Advantages

Partition Recovery is a professional utility for recovering photos, documents, music from any media. It can be a hard drive, flash drive, memory card and other removable drives. The program allows you to fix corrupted files and entire sectors, returning the original disk partition table structure. Thanks to a convenient wizard and the preview function, the entire process of recovering lost files is very simple and intuitive for the user. After launching the application, first of all, you need to select the desired device.

Start Scan

The recovery wizard starts automatically. In the first window, you need to select the type of scan - full analysis takes more time, but gives more accurate results. Then click "Next" and wait for the process to complete. As a result, the structure of the drive with a list of deleted files will be displayed on the screen. For a more convenient search for the necessary data, you can go to the "Deep analysis" submenu.

Recovery start

Now you need to select a specific file or folder, right-click and select "Restore" from the drop-down list. Specify the method of saving (to a hard disk, CD / DVD, in virtual image or FTP) and click Next. Be sure to check that there is enough free disk space.
The final stage - we specify the path to the save folder and some other parameters (restoring the folder structure and alternative data streams, replacing unknown characters). Click the "Restore" button.

Most users are interested in how to recover deleted files from a flash drive only after they accidentally erase a video or other necessary information. At the same time, professional services for extracting erased information from any media, for example, Kingston datatraveler ( we will use it as a sample in this article.) are quite expensive, so it’s better to study this issue in advance and install free applications necessary for file recovery on your computer.

The most popular data recovery software

Of the non-commercial applications, the Recuva program can be safely called the most famous. You can use it when working not only with a datatraveler flash drive, but also with any other media and even devices - cameras and MP3 players.

Features of the Recuva program:

  1. Working with NTFS, FAT and file systems;
  2. Distributed without restrictions, compatible with all modern Windows versions, starting with the "seven".

Among the shortcomings, one can note the complexity, and sometimes the inability to return video and other data that disappeared for a long time, even if nothing else was recorded on the flash drive.

The procedure for extracting erased information from a flash drive using Recuva

For a complete understanding of how to recover data from a flash drive using Recuva, it can be noted that the application determines far from all the files that have ever disappeared. With a high degree of probability, it will not be possible to recover data from a formatted one even in the same file system drive. And don't forget general rules when working with this type of utilities, you need to restore data to the wrong Kingston datatraveler media that you are working with. Otherwise, you may forever lose important data accidentally erased from the flash drive.

The most efficient flash drive software

The application described earlier is very easy to use, but it may only be able to work with files and videos that have disappeared recently. Recuva is often useless if the flash drive has been formatted. IN difficult cases, when files have been overwritten for a long time and have been overwritten more than once, one of the most effective solutions recovery will use the File Scavenger program.

It should be noted right away that the application is not Freeware, but even without a paid license, it can be used to return part of the data lost from a flash drive, view deleted photos.

File Scavenger does not have a Russian-language interface, everything is supported starting from the XP version of Windows.

How to use File Scavenger

The main window of the program has two tabs - Step1 and Step2. Let's start with the first step:

At the end of the search for video and other overwritten data, a list of all the information found is displayed, which can be viewed, as in a familiar explorer, displaying the directory structure. To do this, in the menu ribbon, just click on the "Tree View" button.

File Scavenger Recovery Result

To recover deleted files from the datatraveler flash drive individually, the selected folder or group of directories, you need to mark them and go to the second Save tab. In the "Save to" field of the program, the save location is indicated. Please note that you should write the found files and videos to a hard drive or other media, but in any case not to the same flash drive.

When choosing a file to recover, pay attention to its status, which is indicated in the Status column. It can be good (Good) or bad (Poor). In the latter case, there is no guarantee that at the end of the procedure it is possible to get a fully working undamaged file or video.

If File Scavenger works in Demo mode, then restrictions are imposed not on the number, but on the size of files. Only the first 64 KB of each will be saved.. Photos and images, respectively, will be recorded in specified folder only partially, but for many text documents this size may be sufficient.

One of the best open source applications

Disk Drill is relatively new and completely free for now. Windows utility, through which you can extract video and other data from various media, including Kingston datatraveler. After some time, it will probably go into the category of paid ones, because for Mac OS X the program has existed for a long time, but in a paid version and with a rather expensive license.

After launching Disk Drill, the main window will open with a list of all available drives, including flash drives. Opposite each of them there is a Recover button with a drop-down list:

  1. Run all recovery methods is used by default when you normally click the Recover button, runs all available recovery methods.
  2. Quick scan - performs a quick scan of the selected drive for files that disappeared not so long ago.
  3. Deep Scan - deep analysis.

Another available action with a flash drive in Disk Drill - creating a drive image for further work with it so that the existing data is not lost. Usually free programs do not have such functionality. This action becomes available after pressing the Extras button.

If important data on the flash drive was lost for some reason, you should not immediately order an expensive restoration from a computer company. There are a number of ways to recreate it with your own hands at home. The sooner this is done after removal, the higher the likelihood of receiving it unchanged.

Reasons for data loss

Data that was stored on a flash drive can be deleted for several reasons:

Mechanical

Due to accidental or intentional physical damage the carrier itself (the controller broke, everything melted, etc.), the stored information is lost almost irrevocably. You can try to give it to a specialist, but the price of such resuscitation, as well as the probability of getting it, is very low.

hardware

Due to the powerful magnetic field everything stored on the media can be lost forever.

Program

With the help of context menu commands or special buttons, files disappear from the user's visibility. Most often they are still on the carrier and certain time they can be obtained for your use with the help of special software.

Recovering data on a flash drive

As soon as it became clear that the information lost from the USB memory is needed, it is worth stopping all manipulations with the media. We don’t write anything to it, we don’t delete it, and of course we don’t format it. The sooner you start searching after deletion, the more likely you are to get your materials back.

You need to understand that the lost files are on the media, but they are invisible. But everything that will be written to it again, deleted, or any other manipulations (creating folders, copying, moving, etc.) will lead to the fact that new objects will be placed on top of the necessary data, and the important part will disappear forever.

Recovery algorithm

Regardless of the type of documents, the timing of deletion and the program used, you must follow a clear algorithm of action:

  1. stop all manipulations with the flash drive;

Anything written, copied, or deleted from this drive may be placed on top of the erased items, making it impossible to resume.

Run a scan of the USB drive using any antivirus program. Then change the settings so that the hidden objects become visible.

Depending on the system, the method may differ, but, in general, the following menu items should be performed:

Start - Control Panel -(this item may vary slightly) Design and themes(sometimes parameters) Folder Options - Show hidden files folders.

Now you can see if there are required documents on a flash drive. If not, then they have definitely been removed.

  1. prepare a place for the recovered data;

In any other place, except for the flash drive on which the search will be, create a folder in which we will place the materials received after resuscitation. Another USB drive or C, D drive will do.

  1. install special data recovery software.

There are many programs that allow you to get back the lost information to a greater or lesser extent. Free ones have limitations (for example, they do not allow you to work with the entire folder, allowing you to do this by one object, etc.), but in a normal situation, these features are quite enough.

It almost always takes 20 minutes, regardless of paid or free utility. It's best to always choose to search for all file types and in-depth analysis.

  1. specify a place to save the received information (clause 3);

Check the box and save the received files there. If the entire flash drive is being restored, especially after formatting, then the reserved volume should be equal to the total volume of the drive, even if only a couple of MB of data are recorded there. Similarly, when creating an image when restoring a USB flash drive of large volumes.

  1. view the recovered data.

Green icons at the points found indicate that the documents have been completely reanimated, yellow - partially, and red - they are completely damaged. You can try another program.

Photo: program scan result

Simple applications Paint (graphics), notepad (text) and VLC (video and audio), allow you to use even partially restored objects. We open a partially damaged document with the indicated or similar programs and through "Save As" we get a new file that stores part of the data ready for editing.

Sometimes even such a grain of data found can be very important.

How to return data

The most popular free developments for this purpose: Easy Drive Data Recovery, R-Studio, Recuva, TestDisk & PhotoRec , R.saver , DMDE. All these softwares are simply downloaded on their official websites, and the last two work even without installation.

  • DMDE - restores very high quality, you can only work with each one separately with the resulting database of files.
  • HDD Raw copy Tool - makes a sector-by-sector analysis and a copy of the media.
  • Virtual CloneDrive - creates an image in .img format - suitable for media that have a size of 500 GB or more.
  • Recuva - well restores photo, audio and video materials. Text and installation documents are almost beyond its power.

If free version did not help, you can go to the site of a paid utility, for example Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional, Objectrescue Pro and in demo mode check what this version can find. If the result you are satisfied with, only then purchase the program. Only it will turn out to save the reanimated files.

Video: How to recover data

How to recover data from a flash drive if the computer does not see it

If, after the USB drive has been inserted into the computer, it is not detected, the reason for “invisibility” should be determined - in the PC or in the flash drive.

The following reasons for non-acceptance are typical for a computer:

  • the USB port does not work - often it is enough to rearrange it to another port and everything will work. IN system blocks it is better to use the rear port. This is due to a broken port or lack of power. If the problem is a lack of power, then you need to leave only the keyboard, mouse and USB flash drive turned on, pulling out the speakers and other devices and try again or use another computer for reading;
  • drivers do not work - you need to install the appropriate drivers or delete the INFCACHE. It is hidden and located in the system folder in the DriverStore;
  • inappropriate media letter - after pressing the Win + R keys, enter diskmgmt.msc and there set your USB drive to a letter that has not yet been repeated in any of the media. To do this, select disk management, use the context menu to make an active flash drive and there a new letter is already assigned to it.

As can be seen from the above, the return of information after deletion from a flash drive is a real occupation. But you can expect a positive outcome if the new data was not written in a new layer on top of the erased data. And it will become clear after scanning the flash memory special programs. Further, you can save the information in a new place and try to bring it to its original state with the editor if the file was only partially reanimated.
